Here is the entry that won them:

Kin 1's Name: Endless Climb
Three Personality Keywords: curious, contrary, romantic
Short Personality Blurb: Endless Climb's bad lungs barred him from the physical activities that most other kiokote enjoy, but they couldn't stop him from exploring. After an excursion to the swamp left him unconscious, barely breathing, his parents barred him from ever going back out of fear for his life, but that just made Climb more determined. And then he met her: a Kimeti so beautiful she took his breath away. He can't stay in the swamp for long—he certainly learned his lesson the first time—but he can't stay away from it either. The moments when they can be together are all too short, but he can't stop loving his dear Whisper.

Kin 2's Name: Whisper Softly
Three Personality Keywords: Delicate, Earnest, Unpredictable
Short Personality Blurb: She is a delicate doe who has been treated with care throughout her life. Never has she been in a physical fight before, only verbal ones, and although her family may quarrel, she remains loyal to her parents and family and only speaks earnest words to those she trusts. The actions she makes and songs she sings are always unpredictable. When you think you have her all figured out, she comes up with new tactics and verses you have not seen or heard before. Her love for Endless Climb is so strong that she is willing to leave the swamp to be with him. He only needs to ask and she will do it.. But she knows that if she leaves the swamp for too long it won’t let her live. Her brother told her so.

Entry:
They had agreed to meet each other at midnight on a full moon. Whisper Softly was prepared with the gift she had for Endless Climb. It was sitting on her shoulder as she walked towards the edge of the swamp. Upon seeing her lover show up, she let her gift fly over to him, surprising him. Its colours were like the sunrise, glowing firey red with swirls of orange, yellow, and white. Its eyes, the colour of shining stars in the nightsky. Its beak, the colour of topaz. And its voice...Its voice was like a sweet lullaby.

“Fear not, my love,” she whispered. “This is a blessed songbird. Blessed by the oldest zikwa of our tribe: my great great grandmother. The egg was carefully taken from a nest in a thornbush, one that the mother bird had abandoned. As time went on I kept on singing to the egg for hours a day. It was placed warmly between the soft brown earth and a mixture of leaves and hay that I sleep on, hidden out of sight from my parents. My great great grandmother would come by every so often, blessing the living being inside the egg. And soon enough it hatched into the beautiful songbird that you see in front of you.” The bird was so blessed and looked after with a loving heart that it produced a light yellow glow as it flew in the sky. Whisper Softly watched the bird sing a soothing tune to Endless Climb, and proceeded on with what she had to say before getting spotted by her protective brother. "This gift I give you will keep you company when I am not around, and hopefully...remind you of me."

Here is the entry that won them:

Kin 1's Name: Fair
Three Personality Keywords: Commanding, Instinctual, Sylvan
Short Personality Blurb: Already in-tune with the sparse fauna of the desert, for her the swamp is a wealth of rare and beautiful life. She spends her days idly, enjoying the coolest ponds in the summer. Flowers are often knotted in her horns. Instinct and impulse are her guides. Her voice is sweet, but her blood is wild.

Kin 2's Name: Bumbling
Three Personality Keywords: Earthy, slow, kind
Short Personality Blurb: He isn't very bright, but he works hard, and he does have a sense of humor, even if it's a bit uncouth at times. He does like beautiful things.

Entry:

I sometimes consider your coat and face
and all the virtues you are missing.
No color, style, class, or grace;
yet too often find by reminiscing

on subjects wilder than mere physique:
like breath, though sour, that turns mine hot
like fur, ever coarse, against my cheek,
that I think of virtue less than I aught.

What good does beauty do the desert grass?
Does it make the long blades any sweeter?
Do manners embolden the mountain pass
or make its mighty heights that much steeper?

There's one end, after much reflection:
Give me passion over perfection.

Kin 1's Name: All the Pleasures
Three Personality Keywords: Hedonistic, manipulative, desperate.
Short Personality Blurb: Greedy and aristocratic, All the Pleasures likes being happy. He enjoys things that make him happy; friends, family, food... But it's not all sunshine and roses. He's an addict to the feeling of ecstasy, and will chase it to the far corners of the Swamp if need be. He's not above manipulating any and all to feed his addiction to feeling good. He's also not above being manipulated, especially if he is without his good times for long. He doesn't do well in those times, and tries to avoid them by surrounding himself with the funnest of the fun!

Kin 2's Name: Wandering Eye
Three Personality Keywords: languid, spellbound, weak-minded
Short Personality Blurb: Easily attracted and easily led, Wandering Eye thinks he is following his own nose without realizing he has been bent to someone else's will. Beautiful things, words, ideas, and kin catch his gaze and he can't let them go.

This duo was colored by phoenix kiss, and are now yours!
Here is the entry that won them:

Kin 1's Name: Knotted Smile
Three Personality Keywords: Clever, Dashing, Insecure
Short Personality Blurb: Smarter than perhaps is good for him, Knotted is a charmer who loves to captivate an audience. He enjoys the spotlight, and is well-suited to perform for others (even if just telling jokes and stories, but more spectacularly by pulling pranks that garner great attention and amusement). His greatest fear is mediocrity, and is often plagued by worry that he is undeserving of the attention he gets and will someday fade into obscurity. His ladylove keeps these demons at bay, and turns that insecurity into a drive to keep her adoration always. His cleverness helps him keep things fresh, and a fantastic failure, to him, can be just as enjoyable as a phenomenal success.

Kin 2's Name: Falling Limbs
Three Personality Keywords: Sweet, Driven, Resourceful
Short Personality Blurb: She is a help-mate, a kin who does not mind scouring the swamp for that one elusive plant you're looking for and certainly not when you're looking for somekin to meticulously help you set up a prank. Oh no, she would be delighted to help you with that. Before Knotted Smile she thought that she had to do something magnificent, one brilliant show of all her hard work culminating in, well, something so that she would matter. It had to be great, but she didn't know what it would be, so she had worked day in and day out to try and discover that one moment of her greatness. Then she met Knotted Smile and she found that she didn't need one moment, not when she could have as many as there are stars in the sky, building one on top of the next.

Entry:
It had taken them weeks to set up the traps.

The difficult thing was not the traps themselves -- simple little things made of springing vines, pure child's play -- but convincing other kin that Knotted Smiles and Falling Limbs were sincere for once, that all they wanted was company for a night of revelry and poetry was a whole other story. It had taken them weeks to soothe others' suspicions of them, to assuage the scorn recently pranked kin felt for them. The two acha simpered and charmed and talked their way out of the hurt feelings. All they wanted was their presence at a party. Honest!

There was a feast. There was song and poetry and the telling of stories, and all went according to plan. Knotted Smiles lead the charge, laughing the loudest and reciting all manners of poems to thrill his company. By the end of the night, when he suggested they move locations, to begin the party afresh elsewhere, nobody was suspicious. They did not question the wideness of his ever-present grin.

Falling Limbs of course knew exactly where they were being led, but never let it be said that she wasn't a good actress. She was one of the best, better than Knotted Smiles when she wanted to be, and seemingly infinitely more trustworthy than her counterpart. Knotted liked to say it was her eyes, but late at night when he teased less and ventured into the dark abyss of truth, he said it was because despite all the harmless lies she told throughout the day, always within her was this kernel of earnestness that no kin could resist. And so she smiled, channeling that earnestness and helped Knotted lead the way.

The other kin had little reason to distrust their sudden move. After all, unlike Knotted and Falling's other parties, nothing had yet exploded, or jumped out to scare them, or turned their tongues purple (or that one time when they figured out how to make kins' faces feel like they were melting off on one side, that was a good one). Their guards were down.

So they all went, still singing and cheering, with Knotted at the front of the group.

"Come, my friends!" Knotted cheered at the kin following him. He walked backwards to ensure that all stayed together, the mischief he had kept free of his expression all night now starting to make its appearance.

"The party has barely begun!
Let us sing 'til we tire
And eat 'til we burst
and dance 'til our laughs wake the sun!"

"Is that the best you can do, Knotted?" yelled one buck toward the back, although his words were filled with mirth.

"I am happy to yield the floor to you if you can do better!" Knotted called back with a grin. They were entering the stretch of land now where the traps were hidden -- any moment now the kin would step on a loaded vine that would spring them, upside-down, into the air! Any moment now...

Keeping them distracted, Falling added fuel to that buck's fire:

"Let us hear it, now, if you'd please!
We don't have all night to put your ego at ease!
Come now! Show us your wit!
I dare you to! Don't be afraid, it won't hurt a bit!

Look here! This buck will not entertain you!
Or can he? Or maybe you, you or you?"

This raised a few cheers and laughter as kin in the back jostled the buck, urging him to respond to Knotted and Falling's challenge.

"Of course I could," the buck said absentmindedly. "Let me just think a moment..."

"Our party is dulling while you stand there mulling!" Knotted sang. "Be quicker to wit, and look less like a twit, my friend."

A chorus of laughs followed, save for the grumbling of the buck. "I've almost got one, if you weren't distracting me. "

Knotted laughed, taking a bow for those that chuckled at his joke. He then stood, grinning cheekily. "How could I, when-- YEEP!"

With his back leg, Knotted took a step backward into one of his own traps. He felt the vine tighten around his hoof and before he had any time to react, he was flung upside-down, high into the air.

The crowd all jumped back, nearly as one. Only Falling didn't react, except for her face crumpling into a strange mixture of glee and surprise for she had realized what would happen but didn't warn her partner soon enough. She had managed to catch the other party goers faces though and those had been well worth it as were the yelps.

Not able to contain herself any longer, she went up to Knotted, laughing. "It seems we've been caught and all our planning for naught! Except did you see your face? And theirs as well? All of you, giving such a good yell."

But she took pity on him and gave him a comforting lick on his cheek. "Perhaps you'll pay attention next time and not step into your own line."

Here is the entry that won them:

Kin 1's Name: Dark Descent
Three Personality Keywords: Lonely, Proud, Selfless
Short Personality Blurb: Mostly, Descent wants to stay in his own world and often isolates himself from others. Despite his penchant for collecting small delicate skulls and studying them, he is a pleasant acha to talk to if one cares to carry on a proper conversation with him. With kin he likes, he can be incredibly selfless, putting their need before his own, especially when it comes to Ascent. He is proud and a little haughty but for her, he would brave anything, count the sands of the desert if it pleased her, give her everything she so desired if he could.

Kin 2's Name: Sacred Grove (Ascent)
Three Personality Keywords: Demanding, Composed, Serious.
Short Personality Blurb: Ascent often gives a false name when meeting others, believing names and the dreams that give them are a font of power. She's hardly her mother's sweet girl and routinely pushes the limits of the rules in place by her family, daring to go where she's told not to. She's not above walking away if she doesn't get her way or feels she's being suffocated with unwanted attention and expectation. Ascent takes her role as Descent's mate very seriously, and MotherFather help anyone who tries to get in the way of what she wants.

Entry:
A rant as told by Ascent's mother, Mother of Spring, without a word in edgewise.

"He's not good enough," she started, matter-of-fact as you please. "That goes without saying, but there's plenty else to be said:

I know you've seen the skull around his neck, it's not much different from the bones that liter his poor excuse of a hovel - he's cruel to animals! I brought you up to respect all life, and he -- he takes it and plays with it like some sick-minded kit.

Maybe it's because of that, or just because he has no concept of water, but he reeks of sun-burnt sand and old bones! It's not bad enough that he gallivants with the poor things strewn in his dirty hair and wrapped around his crane-neck, but to smell like he rolled in them is an affront to our senses -- and good sense at that!

If he spent less time bathing in small vermin and ate them instead, he wouldn't be such a small, wrinkly bag of bones! It's a wonder he can walk and not break his delicate little legs. Girl, how do you expect him to give me strong grandchildren, hm? You're too strong and beautiful to have to raise Acha; if he can't give you strong Kiokote children, then truly, what could you want from him? It's not like he can help you raise strong children! Why, a stiff breeze could carry the shells of your children's eggs and knock him aside! What type of father is that?!"

Silence; sweet, blessed silence. Quite unimpressed and ready to leave, Ascent asked dryly, "Anything else, Mother?"

"Yes." The sniffed with derision. "His smile is creepy."

And with an exasperated roll of her eyes, Ascent tuned tail and would hear no more.

Kin 1's Name: Shakes the World
Three Personality Keywords: passionate, caring, headstrong
Short Personality Blurb: Shakes the World dearly loves life, meeting each new day with excitement and energy. Family and friends are especially important to her, enough that she'd give up almost anything for them. She's got a tendency to rush into things without giving the consequences full thought, trusting her wits to get her out of trouble. Once she's set her mind to something, be it an idea, belief or anything else, one would be hard pressed to change her mind.

Kin 2's Name: Calms the Sea
Three Personality Keywords: Serene, Private, Protective
Short Personality Blurb: It is not that easy to bother Calms the Sea, with her serene aura and caring ways she can often put people at ease if she wanted to. She is young but believes she is an old soul, knowlegable about the swamp beyond her years. This makes her very doting to younger kin, motherly and always wanting to give out advice to those who would listen. But despite this she can also be very fierce and put her foot down when she has to. If it has something to do with her friends and family, and especially to Shakes the world, she will do anything in the world for them.

Here is the entry that won them:

Kin 1's Name: Never Misses
Three Personality Keywords: Driven, Confident, Unrepentant
Short Personality Blurb: You will not be the one to save her; she might need help, but she doesn't need you to be her hero. She is a hunter and a warrior, a fighter rather than a racer like many of her kin, and she does not tolerate those who presume that her careful appearance precludes her from physical might. She has no qualms about making her personal opinions known and refuses to accept that her physical beauty should be an attribute that others can judge her by nor is she willing to use her appearance to deceive others. She is proud of who she is and what she can do, and when she strikes, she never misses.

Kin 2's Name: First to Strike
Three Personality Keywords: Gentle, Courageous, Brash
Short Personality Blurb: He considers himself an adventurer, and adventure he does. He's not frightened of much and will easily risk himself to help someone in need, and his profession has lead to the development of a somewhat resourceful nature (or at least a familiarity with the workings of certain plants around Matope). Nevertheless, he only needs that in the first place because he's so reckless; he doesn't think of consequences and often finds himself needing to fix mistakes post-hoc. For all that he's a bit of a stereotypical hero, he's also quite eccentric! He's got a special sympathy for animals who aren't kin, and often talks to them (and a certain bear in particular) as though they're sentient, and seems to take their actions into account when he makes decisions. His behavior is quite different when it comes to kin, who he seems for the most part to avoid: they can speak for themselves, after all.

Entry:

The swamp was a different place from the plains. It was damp and the ground never seemed to carry her weight steadily. Instead, it dipped and sunk and occasionally she would misjudge her next step and her hoof and the bottom of her leg would disappear into the dark swamp floor. Still, it was her home now, the place where her heart now belonged. She had left the plains long enough ago that they were simply pleasant dreams.

It was still strange though, when she bumped into those that she had once known out on the plains. Sometimes it was as if being in the swamp changed nothing and then other times it was as if the heavy air made them different kin from the ones they had been when they had once ran together. No, nowadays Never Misses tended towards those she had never met before. She liked the strangers who enjoyed a good-natured fight, kin who understood that war did not always include hard feelings.

Her quiet thoughts were broken by a sudden cry and disgruntled grumblings. Never Misses almost ignored them, but she wasn't cruel enough to avoid somekin who might be injured. The voice did niggle at the back of her mind though, familiar in a way that made her want to stomp her foot and snort out a sharp retort before even seeing the source of the voice. She picked up her pace and followed the direction of the sound. She had to laugh when she saw who it was that had drawn her here. Of all the kin that she could have bumped into, it was First to Strike. "Seems like you can't keep out of trouble anywhere you go, hmm?"

There was a clear bite to her words and if a kin who had never seen them interact before were to observe them now, they would come away with the impression that Never Misses was less than friendly, hostile even. First to Strike looked up at her words, looking nonplussed and unimpressed despite the situation she'd caught him in. “Aww, Grumble, it’s Never Misses. If I didn't know better, I'd think she was following us around!” 'Grumble' didn't reply, but the sound of thrashing seemed to get louder. He was wrapped up in some thorny vine he'd apparently...tripped over? Never Misses couldn't be sure; you never could with First to Strike involved.

In response to his words, though, Never Misses just watched him struggle, satisfied to note the twisting only exasperated his situation in the bushes. Below him, but just as entangled was a small bear - Grumble, she supposed, from his outburst. It was obvious from Never Misses' point of view that, as always, First to Strike had taken off without thinking or apparently watching his hooves, in pursuit of that bear (it seemed the bear just made him more of a fool than he already was). The last time they had met, just after Grumble, unnamed at the time, had permanently entered First to Strike’s life. Never Misses had nearly turned the little bear into a meal and she would have succeeded if First to Strike hadn’t flung himself over the creature, taking her calculated blow in his friend’s stead. Regardless, it seemed as if she couldn’t stop bumping into him, first on the plains when they'd first collaborated against that mouth-breathing kiokote she still didn't trust, and then during her travel to the swamp, and then with the wasps, and, well, she wasn't sure she could count their encounters now if she wanted to.

“Do you need some help?” She asked archly and, when he could only splutter as his hoof got tangled at a strange angle, snorted.

“Not from you, nope! You only ever make it worse - remember that one time, with the boar?” That earned him a displeased frown, but she said nothing in return. Instead, she carefully slid down the ditch that had originally tripped him up to get closer to the brambles that he was tangled in. She could detect the familiar tang of blood in the air, so either he or Grumble (and probably both) had been pierced by the vine's many thorns. Her mouth settling into a determined, but faintly amused smile; she began to strike down on the vines with her hooves, hacking at each one in turn before she had sliced through it. And it seemed even First to Strike's pride wouldn't persuade him to continue futilely drawing his own blood on the thorny vines, further impeding his own escape, as his struggles slowed to a stop after the second cut.

There was a few beats of silence, punctuated by her hacking hooves, before First to Strike opened up his mouth, about to speak again. Never Misses beat him to it, “Is something going to come out of that mouth? Yes? Well, I suppose it’s going to be ‘Thank you’ so there's no need to bother; I already know!”

Her tone was sharp, but up close, it was hard to mistake the expression on her face as anything but a smile. First to Strike only shook his head, but his stance relaxed and he let her do her work in peace. She was, after all, helping him get out of this thorny predicament. She finally reached him, the thorns having cut her own legs in the process, but neither of them mentioned it as First to Strike pulled free and the two extracted the audibly uncomfortable Grumble from his own predicament.

She expected, at first, actual thanks, though she wouldn't have put it past him to tease her for helping. Instead, First to Strike swept Grumble to the side with a leg whose fur was matted slightly with blood. "Heeey, you're okay now, aren't you?" he asked, his voice uncharacteristically gentle and mushy.

Never Misses turned away to hide her face as she laughed silently at the sight of First to Strike crooning at Grumble and cuddling the bear like a long lost lover. When she turned back, the two were respectable, so she refrained from commenting and merely kicked up her hooves to pull herself out of the low ditch. It was unusual for there to be ditches of any great depth in the swamp, especially ones mostly empty of water, but she'd leave it to First to Strike to find the greatest pitfalls of all the places he ran into.

First to Strike scrambled up as well, Grumble now nestled safely on his back. They watched each other, not in an unfriendly manner, and Never Misses tossed her head in good-bye.

Just as she was about to race off into the swamp, he stopped her with a call: “Hey! Next time it’s going to be you stuck in a strange predicament!”

He was smiling broadly (and in a manner he probably thought attractive) and even though she twisted a grimace at him, internally she was smiling. “Not a chance! I wager the next time we meet it’ll be you in trouble, again. You would think that little companion of yours would help keep you out of trouble, but it seems that two adventurers does not make for smarter quests.”

First to Strike could only laugh as the Never Misses ran off. He turned back to Grumble. “So, you ready for the next one?"

Kin 1's Name: Walking Root
Three Personality Keywords: Self-Assured, Confident, Practical
Short Personality Blurb: Walking Root was born with what appears to be unwavering confidence and an obnoxiously strong sense of self. Root has never once doubted herself, and has proven to be a kimeti that is easy for others to lean upon. It is as if her assurance in herself is so great that it leaks onto her company. She is mildly plagued by Roses in Bloom, and while she doesn't seem to be bothered by the girl's affection she is very clearly not interested. Root is tasteful enough not to pursue other kimeti when Roses in Bloom is around, but she does wish the girl would take the hint and end her foalish crush on her!

Kin 2's Name: Roses in Bloom
Three Personality Keywords: Daydreamy, Aloof, Gentle
Short Personality Blurb:Roses in Bloom is always lost in thought, thinking of what could be over what is. She wants the finer things in life, and wants a grand and glorious love story. Too often, she was indulged by loving and kind parents who told her stories of heroes and princes. Roses in Bloom wants a prince of her own, and… has decided that Walking Root will be it. She sits around with Walking Root, whether her company is desired or not, and simply makes doe-eyes at the poor girl. Regardless of her romantic intent towards her, Roses in Bloom adores Walking Root’s company and enjoys the other Kimeti’s opinions.

Entry:
Oh, but soft! Mine eyes deceive,
Such a glorious soul I can’t believe,
With eyes so bright and forested green,
And coat a wonderful purple sheen.
To find you, o prince, with heart so pure,
I have not ever been so sure,
You will be mine, someday you’ll see
You belong nowhere but here, with me.
I gallop through the fields of your eyes,
And catch your heart in such surprise,
I meet you there, my feelings bare,
To consummate this love we’d share!
Please hear me, love! Please hear my plea,
How fair a lover I might be.
To lose myself within your mane,
For me to share in all your pain,
To kiss your cheek when tears should fall,
To laugh at our friends, them jealous all!
And in the morning, lay in dew,
My Walking Root, I so love you!

Kin 1's Name: Kept
Three Personality Keywords: timid, creative, meticulous
Short Personality Blurb: Kept's a perennial kin-watcher who tends to stutter and stumble when it comes to actual interaction with others. He enjoys inventing backstories for the kin he sees and the items they leave behind (be it furs, feathers, or the remains of their meals), but has only one doe to share them with. He has a rather unsettling habit of picking up after kin who enter the small patch of swamp he considers his informal territory and gathers the various debris they leave behind in a clearing, where they serve as a museum of his guests. He's gentle, though, and tries to leave Matope otherwise undisturbed.

Kin 2's Name: Found
Three Personality Keywords: Withdrawn, tender, independent
Short Personality Blurb: Found isn't a particularly social doe, and has never really had a problem with that. She keeps almost entirely to herself, often seeming cold to strangers, rarely finding someone that makes her want to open up. Her self-imposed isolation isn't the result of disliking others, though--she can be very affectionate when it comes to certain Kimeti--it's simply that if her company can't appreciate a silence spent together, more often than not, she'd just as well go without.
