(Right, so, the rules stand thus:
1. Read the title. Hopefully it gives you some clues as to the required skill level and the setting.
2. Live up to the title:
a. Do not godmode.
b. Try to avoid one-liners, except in cases of writer's block.
c. Pay attention to your spelling and grammar.
d. No chatspeak will be tolerated except OOC.
e. INDICATE your OOC, I don't care how as long as it's clear.
f. Be original.
g. My word is law.
3. If you do not understand any of the rules, you probably shouldn't be here.
4. Keep it PG-13 or above; minimize cussing, and exclude explicit content.
5. This shall be long-term; I can usually only be on once or twice a week, and not for long, so this'll probably be the sort of roleplay where you check back and reply once every couple of days, unless we happen to be on at the same time.
6. Your intros can be in list OR paragraph form, just be sure to give us enough information to work with. They don't have to be as long as mine.
7. If I'm not here, go ahead and post; but beware, any objectionable material (whether it's not obeying the rules, not meeting literacy requirements, harassing other players, and the like) will get you booted out of here as soon as I get back.
8. All races are allowed, but be sensible; if we're in a snowy forest, and your character is a mermaid, you're probably on the wrong board.
9. Read the intro, and try to skim at least some of the posts that come before you get here. I don't want people talking about a desert if I'm at the ocean.
10. Post Icy if you have read this.)
Re'ae, home of the Toliem, was the southernmost kingdom of the Rubenhart Aliiance, and the smallest. A few islands, aranged in a rough circle around a larger, central isle, comprised the entirety of the kingdom. Not a particularly powerful nation, their real strength lay in the production of food and goods that were sold across the known world, bringing in huge profits to the nation.
The Toliem themselves were simple folk, mostly farmers. They worked small plots of land with such care that the sandy soil, once thought the poorest land in the world, could bring forth a king's bounty, in both quality and variety.
This was due in part to the hard work of a small group of mages, who continuously formulated new potions and procedures to increase the productivity of the land.
Until recent years, these techniques worked wonders. But now, due to a severe drought, the once-fertile land was beginning to fail. Besides these troubles, there were rumors that Queen Kori'e, the greatest leader they'd had in a thousand years, had fallen ill. The few nobles that comprised the small court were reduced to squabbling among themselves, while some farmers sank dangerously close to starvation.
To compound their problems even more, whispers of war in the northern kingdoms have reached them. The lizardlike Dorneda, also members of the Rubenhart Alliance, had already begun to battle their neighbors, the Arche. Ancient law demanded that the Toliem, as allies of the Dorneda, send their support, but they could hardly be expected to feed an army when they could barely feed themselves.
Rumors and gossip abound. This soldier, or that village hero, is seeking this amulet, or that secret spell, to end the war, or to increase the food supply, or to cure the Queen's ailment. The vagueness of these stories is matched only by the haziness of the kingdom's future...
(Right, sooo... this is one of a group of roleplays, the Celestial Shadows roleplays. You can jump between them; for instance, have your character start here and travel to Elatine, where one of the others takes place. Or, you can just stay here. The links are:

The Toliem are humanoid, but they are quite large in stature, some standing at almost nine feet. They have pointed ears with tufts of fur at the tips, and long, drooping eyebrows that often brush their cheeks and which they often ornament with beads and such.
Toliem are long-lived; anyone younger than a hundred years old is still counted a child, and the oldest living Toliem is said to exceed one thousand years of age. This has granted a certain slowness to their manner as well; it takes little to make them happy, and quite a lot to anger them; but once they are truly angry, they won't stop until they feel avenged.)
Cor've shifted nervously and, for what felt like the thousandth time, peeped into the small, beautifully carved box in her hands. A silvery glint met her eyes, and she snapped the box shut. It was still there. She didn't know why it wouldn't be, but she had an odd feeling about the little silver pendant.
She slid the box into one of the many pockets in her long, loose leather coat, and pulled out a book. The cover was cracked and faded, the pages dog-eared and stained; this was a book that had seen much use. Although a huge tome, the book looked small in Cor've's hands.
She thumbed through it absently, stopping as she reached a certain page. Of all the sa'angreal, the Wand of the White Tower is said to be the most powerful. However, many sa'angreal have been lost since ancient times, so this may not be the case. One such is hinted at in certain ancient manuscripts. Named as the Key of Life or the Key to the Heavens, it is said that it has been used to cure diseases thought uncurable; in some cases, though these references are more obscure, it has been said that the Key may wake the dead.
However, only a powerful mage can wield the sa'angreal. Lesser mages are confined to the
angreal, the weaker and more manageable counterparts of sa'angreal. Of these, it has been said--
Cor've snapped the book shut with a sigh, returning it to her pocket. Then, before she thought about it, she removed the box from her pocket and once again checked its contents. Then, frustrated with herself, she shoved it roughly into her pocket.
"It's a simple enough task," she muttered, with the soft, slow tones that were commonly attributed to her people. "Deliver it safely to Master E'mond. Then why am I so nervous?" She ran her fingers through her mousy brown hair, which was cut short because she'd gotten tired of having it catch in things. Her large eyes, liquid black, closed briefly as she tried to maintain control of herself.
At 138 years of age, her conduct was considered, among her people, to be flighty at best. Meaning that, to other races, she had the placidity and tenacity of a stone. However you chose to look at it, though, this assignment was testing the limits of her self-control.
"Bad enough that Master Ky'rek has me always scrubbing floors and weeding the garden; how am I to learn a single new spell when he works me so? And then he sends me on errands, acting so strangely about it, and, sun help me, I think I'm carrying a sa'angreal."
(... stare This only works if people come...)
(Preferably soon.)
(Hmmm... maybe Ta would join... she's not on much, but she's good... I'll have to ask.)
(Hmmm... p'raps I'll join up... though, truthfully, I'm out of ideas. Maybe a Dorneda ambassador...)
((may I join?))
( sweatdrop Sorry I wasn't here... if you do end up checking back, well, you're welcome to join.)
((Icy. Can I join too? I'll check back later to see if you're around then. I like the whole idea of this rp so I hope I can begin soon. Though it seems like any one hasn't posted in a really long time... Though I guesse it'll be worth the wait, I haven't had a good fantsay rp in a while...))
(You're quite welcome to join. ^.^ Have fun!)
(*sigh* Nothing to do... *twiddles thumbs*)
(( "Icy" - - My, isn't this a lively thread...? And it's been going on for nearly 3 months, too! I applaud your unwillingness to let it go! ^_^

I guess I'm just asking if I could join. I mean, you say "go right on ahead" but I'd feel like a jerk if I didn't get confirmation... sweatdrop ))
(^.^ Certainly you may! Sorry that took so long...)
