User Image-To hunt, verb-
To pursue (game) for food or sport.
To search through (an area) for prey.
To make use of (hounds, for example) in pursuing game.
To pursue intensively so as to capture or kill.
To seek out; search for.
To drive out forcibly, especially by harassing; chase away.

Name: Eamnonn
Gender: male
Realm: the Hunt
Rebirth Stage: Deity
Mate: Beryl, goddess of the Wind
Children: Caolan, goddess of Suffocation and Tera-Ilana, goddess of Archery

Skin Color: mixed shades of green (changes according to season)
Hair Color: flaming red
Eye Color: bright green
Wings: leafy, mix of various colors and plant types (changes according to the season)
Physical Marks: cheetah-like facial tear markings, leopard spotting on legs, tiger stripes on shoulders, sides and back
Physical Build: unproportionally long arms and big hands, digigrade legs, clawed feet, raptor-taloned hands, two wolf-like tails, feathered fetlocks on wrists
Clothing: (not always worn) belt with hunting knife scabbard/knife, leather loincloth, falconry glove
Powers: Wild Hunt - Whereas previously the hunter god could only summon a small pack of wolf-like shadow creatures, now he can summon the beasts of the Wild Hunt. The fae-hounds, horses, falcons, etc. belonging to this most ancient, revered, and feared of cavalcades. The size of the cavalcade is like a small army, and acts so under the direction of the Huntsmaster(Ea). They are not necessarily shadows, anymore, though can seem shadowy or ethereal. They are not independant entities, but are manifestations of the faces of the hunt. Though there were, in ages past, real devotees, aoide, fae and the like who joined this hunt, or emulated it with lesser affairs of their own.

It costs a lot energy to summon and run the full hunt, or command attack, hence the rarity of sightings in yonder days. Much more common is small hunts of fewer members.

It should be noted that the beasts have no riders or Hunters themselves. These, it can only be hypothesized, would be summoned by the Huntress.

Regeneration – fast, mortal weapons don’t hurt him. Mortal artifacts can be healed in a day or two. Immortal weapons in a week or so, pending the strength. Godly weapons in a few months to a year depending the strength.

Hunter Shape – Eamnonn can take on a shape similar to any predator animal, only it is always greater in stature then a mortal counterpart. It is always of godly and epic seeming. He can also have partial changes, like a were-creature. At most, though, he can affect the aspects of three predators at once. His domain is Hunt, not Animals.

Athletics – pretty obvious, the Hunt has need of incredible speed, stamina, strength, etc. While not the greatest in any aspect, the hunt would do well in a deific Triathlon.

Hunter Tool – He can form from himself the tools of a hunter to use, including modern implements: javelins, bow and arrow, bola, rifle, snares, etc. He must keep concentration on them to keep them in existence apart from himself, however. So such an implement, if given to a follower, would disappear back into the Hunter if his concentration was broken. He can, however, supply enough of these for an entire hunting party, and their existence is indefinite as long as he concentrates. For the purposes of wounding, they are considered of the same magic level as though Eamnonn himself had struck a blow with claw or fang. (so they can harm gods).

Personality: Eamnonn wants little in life but to be happy - to be free to hunt game and spend time with the people he cares about. He believes in doing things for himself instead of being waited on like some gods, since he has more power than most he feels he should use it. He's more physical than a lot of the other Edelsteine, probably because his aspect is more connected to life and action than some of the elements or abstractions of the others.

Unlike the other gods, Eamnonn doesn't remember his former incarnations. With no memory of his past to dictate what he must be now, he plays life by ear and takes things as they come. Through his host, his followers and Orin, the Hunt is very connected to the present. Because of this he often finds himself trying to reconcile being a pagan god with modern Judeo-Christian life.

User Image-To suffocate, verb-
To kill or destroy by preventing access of air or oxygen.
To impair the respiration of; asphyxiate.
To cause discomfort to by or as if by cutting off the supply of fresh air.
To suppress the development, imagination, or creativity of; stifle.

Name: Caolan
Gender: female
Realm: Suffocation
Birth Stage: Babe
Parents: Eamnonn, god of the Hunt and Beryl, goddess of the Wind
Siblings: Tera-Ilana, goddess of Archery

Skin Color: purplish indigo
Hair Color: dark red
Eye Color: warm gray
Wings: none
Physical Marks: permanent bruise like markings around throat, blue lips, finger and toenails
Powers: Does not breathe, observation, able to suck the breath out of humans (mortals?) to gain the power of speech for a short time - victims are killed by suffocation in the process.

Personality: It is hard to tell exactly what Caolan is like, as she is unable to speak and spends most of her time observing instead of reacting to life. She is a quiet yongster, and not simply because her lack of breathing produces a lack of vocalization. She is thoughtful and curious, interested in learning about the world around her and systematically testing the reactions of things. She doesn't like moving fast since the whipping wind stings her eyes, and she finds it difficult to see everything then. Inordinately patient for her years, she seems to have inherited her father's fast reflexes and uses them to catch creatures to get a better look at.

The little goddess is most interested in learning the things she cannot do: breathe, and by extention speak. She is slowly trying to mimic the movements that produce breathing, but since she doesn't know how the muscles actually move or what it should feel like, her attempts have not been successful. It has come to the point that she thinks breathing might be a physical thing contained within those who can do it, and so has begun to try to extract it from them. This has so far unfortunatly resulted in the animal's death. As for speaking, while she still has no voice, she and Eamnonn have begun to learn sign language from one of her father's followers in an effort to communicate. They have both mastered the art, and Caolan is slowly teaching it to anyone who will sit still long enough to learn.

Oringo the werewolf gardener
User Image
Orin was Eamnonn's first servant, who began life as a New York City recluse who worked for park services. After being mauled by a werewolf he became one himself, finally killing a young woman and resolving to commit suicide over it. Instead, he was found by another werewolf, who offered to either kill him or send him through some sort of portal. He chose the second option, and ended up on the Hunt's doorstep as half man and half wolf, with the blood of his victim permanently staining his hands. An excellent gardener, he's found acceptance and friendship with Eamnonn, and has become one of the god's most trusted companions.

Eben the aiode seamstress
User Image
Eben serves Eamnonn because that is his duty and he was assigned to it - he is very prim and proper, not one to question the way of things when it comes to the gods. Neither Ea nor Orin quite know what to do with him, and he finds them distressingly base and uncultured. Arriving in the company of two more hounds to add to the Hunt's pack, he expected to be their keeper. However, the god he serves prefers to do things for himself and already had a human follower to help him with his hounds, so Eben has become Ea's seamstress and tanner. It is a type of service Eben believes a lower servant should be assigned to, but he does it anyway like the faithful minion he is.

Quaker the stuffed kitty crawling hand catgirl of doom
User Image

Quaker is a cheerful, bright-eyed girl who adores pretty things and so seems to be a bit of a ditz. Just about anything can be classified as pretty and therefore deserving of her attention: things, places, and people. She likes teasing and cat-and-mouse games, taking a haughty sort of pleasure in the distress of others. She is well aware of her body and sexuality, using them to her utmost advantage and alwasy happy to share them with anyone who falls into the pretty category. Quaker is devoted to Caolan as any good aoide should be, and enjoys her service. Her respect for gods stops at her mistress, though, which may get her into trouble.

Merrow and Kelpie, the Glassgryph and Socit
Merrow, who wears a knitted cap after the fashion of his namesake Irish mermaids, is a friendly beast who likes exploring. Not the smartest creature, he is quite capable of getting into trouble due to curiosity. Has a particular fondness for Quaker, as she has long nails and uses them to scratch behind his ears. Loves going for a swim. Kelpie is a strange little beast, who lives in water mostly but is also able to leave it and 'swim' through the air when needed. Communicates only with Merrow, but seems older and far more intelligent.

Eamnonn's Myth
The Origins of the Hunt

An Edelsteine Myth by Perri Indiya

This story cannot be found in any collection of myths, nor heard from the lips of a storyteller. It is kept in the mind of Creation, for he was there as he was there for all things, and writ large on the vault of the sky as she too has seen every moment that has passed on our ball of mud. For a moment, though we shall pretend that it is a book kept in the Library of the Ages, and that the silent Keeper of the Books has placed it in our hands. We open its ancient pages and find that this story, like most of history, begins with blood.

Life, once created, begat the eternal fight over who ought to have it, and that fight ended in death. It was here the Hunt was born. He had many shapes then, all half-seen and flickering whether there were shadows or not. He was there even when life itself was formless, following the amoeba on its sticky search for flagellates. Like so many others he was both child and bringer of death: eternal as long as there lived anything hungering to continue living. No matter what fell into an open mouth he was there, more Feeding than Hunting. For most of Lifes existence he was only this, and would have been happy to remain so. He liked all hunters, whether fast and carnivorous or slow and vegetarian. Mosquito, raptor, pitcher plant, dire wolf - all were the same to him. All the world was his hunting grounds, and all of life both his companion and prey. The Hunt lost much with the advent of man.

The gods were safe without men, although it is debatable whether they were truly gods. Perhaps it was human belief that raised them from a half-formed race of other to deity, but that is also what gifted them with their shortcomings. Before, they simply were. After, they were fallible, vulnerable, and killable.

Man gave Hunt form. Forms. He was divided and twisted, chopped up into separate parts and given different names. To some he was death, to others fertility; he was male and female, virgin and father. With all these new parts the Hunt lost himself, stretched too far to remember the simple times before the Naked Ape. Already weakened by too much belief, he fell apart when attacked with too little. As the one god swept away the many, Creation reached out a benevolent hand and gathered up the Hunt's wick-green aches, stowing them away for another birth.

When the Hunt walked the land again, he was both himself and what the humans made him. He remembered his true self: what he had been before man, the whole and simple truth of tentacle, tooth, and claw. The time he had spent in pieces could not be the larger, whole self, but its mark was left on him nonetheless. He was a being, not just an incarnation; one with thoughts, opinions and a personality. The old facets warred within him, Wild Hunt against Green Man, fertility god against virgin huntress. In the end he simply became the Hunt for himself, seeking love, pack, and knowledge. He took a name given by the chosen of Creation, instead of a controlling priest. Washed clean of the broken times he was reborn the young and endless Hunt, Life's search for a companion and through her its own biological continuation.

Here we close the book and place it back in the hands of the Keeper with a nod of thanks, even though the story is undone. Come again at some later time and there shall be more to read, for like all immortal tales it is never really finished. As long as there is life, there is death. AS long as this wheel turns, there must be those who toil to keep it moving. See the green, laughing brother without a shirt who works there? It is the Hunt, and no matter how many guises he is born to over the years, you can always find him here. Turning the wheel.

Caolan's Myths
A Few Monographs on the Subject of Suffocation by Various Scholars

An Edelsteine Myth by Perri Indiya

"It was believed in by the more primitive cultures of medieval Europe, that monsters and demons awoke with the dawning of the moon to fall upon the living for sustinence so that they might not rise in the morning. Thus we have our tales of vampyres stalking the night for blood and wraiths coming to steal our souls. These were horrors that came from without, perhaps a warning that there was no safety to be had from the elements or wilds beyond the walls of the castle or peasant hut; that little had changed for human-kind since the first days of walking upright and being afraid of the dark. There was another kind of beast in the night that came from within the safety of their buildings, a class of evil that sprang from burning fires throughout the night and a lack of knowledge about the effects of carbon monoxide. These were the succubi and their male forms the incubi, demons that stole lifebreath to steal life from people in their beds. From them sprung the nightmares: formless monsters that gripped the mind of sleepers as they crushed their diaphrams beneath their inexorable weight and with them people's lives. Such was the explinations for the new horrors brought by fire and poor ventalation. Now it was not only sirens and sea maids who could force the air from a man's lungs and make him unable to breathe - it was also the woman-shaped succubus that wrapped her terrible arms around him at night, and the evil morass that surrounded his mind. As suffocation became a regular visitor to the medieval home, so too did the demons that were said to cause it."

~Madeleine Tauk, from The Beasties that Morgan Called

"Even Hans Christian Andersen's sweet and doomed maid of the sea drowned human men without a thought, although her motivation was naivete instead of malice. The good mermaids do not understand that men cannot breathe below the waves, and so end up killing them with curiosity. Every so often they save the airbreathers instead, which is ill-advised at best. If this does not start a chain of events that kills the mermaid herself, it will most certainly encourage the man to take another sea voyage and kill more oceanic animals. The siren of Greek myth, on the other hand, is a malicious creature bent on man's watery destruction. She lives not in the depths of the deep but in the rocky coves where little lives but barnicles and wooden skeletons. She calls out with the alluring song named after her, tempting adventurers to a fate they could foresee if her voice didn't bespell them. Why are these two dissimilar creatures sharing the sea with same result upon the humans who sail it? Surely it is due at least in part to the differences in the cultures that spawned these beasts, as well as the unchanging effects of drowning on the human body. Those who told tales of mermaids found some romance in the crushing embrace of the sea, where the siren's creators found only a painful end in the kiss of the cliffs. Still, in the end it is the same story as many of those told on land: a pretty face glimpsed in darkness will often steal your breath away."

~Anthony Mendel from Sea Maids and Hags: Sailor's Dreams and Nightmares

Caolan's Myth
Suffocation has been protrayed in many cultures as a secondary weapon against humans used by many different kinds of demons that prey on the living. From succubi to kelpie, sirens to witches, creatures that were said to live either to consume or kill humans were armed with alluring charms and the ability to steal breath. Evil queens stole breath to get youth, demons to collect souls. Instead of having suffocation be a tool, I'd like her to be a person in her own right. The child of the wind, she's connected to her mother through her subsitence on and manipulation of breath, and she is her father's daughter in her need to hunt humans and feed on their life breath. She is the invisible force that makes it hard for you to breathe at night, and the kiss that steals consciousness when you've been underwater for too long.

Quote:
-3 posts, at least one joint with someone, trying to find where those two rogues once they're to the Ashlands.
- find and speak with Kishara, the former Empress, since that is how they left. Let's hear some thoughts on one of the Young Gods about the situation of no formal Empress, the divide of loyalties of some wanting only creation, some destruction, others for balance. How does Caolan feel as one of the first and only two Young gods : those not reborn from a jewel, but inheriting old power to a completely new identity without mortal influence?
