Here we are shortly after finding out I was, indeed, pregnant after our alcohol-induced tumble on the kitchen floor. I can't remember if Dave or Envy snapped this one, but I DO remember whoever was holding the camera saying something about wanting a picture of the "happy couple", hense our expressions. Oy vey...

After a sudden and premature labor, the baby was born. Correction: BABIES. Seems like even from the beginning they're getting a good jump on keeping us off-balance. I wonder if this is an indication of things to come...

Kendall and Raven held still long enough for....well...I can't really remember if it was Youko or myself who snapped this one. They're springing up like weeds! Seems like just yesterday they came home from the hospital...

The Parent Trap
The kids are still growing fast and are now getting into all sorts of trouble regularly. Putting things out of their reach doesn't work anymore since now they're big enough to push over a chair and get into the cupboards. I know Youko and I had said we'd be dancing in the streets the day we didn't have to worry about changing diapers anymore, but I never really realized just how much we'd miss those naps we used to be able to get them to take.

Karma and Youko were best friends and shared most everything. When Karma needed to borrow gold, Youko was the first to offer it. When Youko was mourning the loss of his beloved Angelic Sash, Karma replaced it with one of hers. In a nutshell, they'd been through a lot together -- anger, sadness, and general upset that life had thrown at them.
Best of all, nobody ever needled them about taking their close friendship to another level for two very important reasons -- Youko was proudly and openly gay, and Karma was a frigid wench to anyone other than her fiance, Dave.
This is why it rather disturbed them to awaken in a state of disarray on Youko's kitchen floor one morning after a mutual friend's birthday party (alcohol provided, of course), both with pounding headaches, and blanketed in drying soda from an open can that sat nearby. Needless to say, both were badly shaken and agreed to pretend that it never happened. After a week or so of avoiding one another, Karma sought out Youko for a "chat".
"Remember last week? On the floor?"
"....no?"
"Neither do I. =_="
"Well, nothing happened, right? I thought we agreed on that. It was just...we passed out on each other or something."
"'Or something' is right..."
"Erm...something wrong?"
She silently handed him the piece of paper she had recieved from her appointment that morning with the GMFC stating that her pregnancy test had returned positive. Youko was mortified.
"No way! Nuh-uh! We couldn't have possibly! W-What if its Dave's??"
"Dave's sterile, Youko stare "
"B-But this---aw Christ, Envy's gonna KILL me!! gonk "
An argument immediately followed and accusations were thrown. Karma, remembering only a bit of that night, complained that she had merely been bending over to get a soda from the fridge. Youko, not to be outdone, shot right back with it being HER fault for wearing a David Bowie shirt backwards at the time and confusing him in his intoxicated state.
When they had exhausted their anger at each other, they finally had a civil conversation -- most importantly, what was to be done about the baby. It went without saying that neither Dave nor Youko's beau Envy was going to take the news very well but...there really wasn't much that could be done by then.
The significant others of the two friends were, understandably, upset at first. Who wouldn't be, after all? After the initial temper-flaring was done with, however, and Envy and Dave let it sink in that it had been an accident, that their better halves were both quite embarrassed and sorry about the whole ordeal, and that a new life was on its way.
After making Karma and Youko both swear up and down to stay away from booze and after Karma's David Bowie shirts had all been confiscated, the two couples put their heads together to prepare for the arrival of the new baby. Thankfully, it was not an unwanted pregnancy...Karma and Dave had been musing about artificial insemination to get around his sterility and Youko and Envy had talked seriously about adopting a child on more than one occasion. As such, it didn't take long for the four of them to embrace their roles as impending parents.
Despite the fact that things still got a bit chilly between them from time to time as the pregnancy progress and the mood swings took their toll, Karma and Youko remained friends straight up to when Karma went into labor where they had an extreme falling out all through the birthing process.
When the smoke cleared, she had given birth to not one, but TWO children. Their twins, Raven-Marie and Kendall Ferrall, upended life as they knew it as both Karma and Youko scrambled to include them into their daily life. They had the situation well-enough under control, at the least, with a nursery in either of their homes and their time divided equally between the kids.
This arrangement worked well for the first two years of Raven and Kendall's life up until Youko found a new job that ate most of his time. Karma, finding herself with the kids much more often, became much more flustered and stressed as she tried to keep up with them and balance her other obligations at the same time.

Nobody really knows when or how Karma came to Gaia. Truthfully, its doubtful SHE knows. One thing's for certain, however, she has an innate love for caring for things and has a special tenderness for things she feels need her. Its for this reason she likely has so many pets under her care.
On the other hand, when she's not caring for things, she has a bad habit of bursting into spontaneous rants about people or things that she dislikes. Namely, people who have gone out of their way to piss her or someone she cares about off immensely. While the initial reaction to this sort of trait is upset that she might be a bad influence on a child, it could be looked at as the noble makings of being a protective mother....if you squint.
Though becoming pregnant was an eventual goal of hers, she hadn't quite planned on it this soon or under these *cough* conditions. Never the less, she is prepared to do the best job she's able and has, instead of the usual one other pair of hands to help out, three others as Youko and Envy have agreed to assist in parenting the impending child.

It took a rather quiet and caring soul... Envy Fairchylde, to get through the fox's shell, finally coaxing him out and began to teach him how to be relatively human. After he started letting others near, he met Karma and the others who quickly became friends. This was when Youko's protective streak showed through, and it became apparent that he wouldn't stand for his friends being stepped on.
As with Karma, some may suggest that this would make him a bit too volatile to be a parent. But everyone has a temper, it just matters what they do with it. Besides... he's already saving up for a shotgun to use on any would-be suitors. Karma has yet to break it to him that it's a 50/50 shot, and they MIGHT wind up with a boy.

Yume -- Yume is one of Youko's first pets ever, a rather caring and motherly Tae who has raised one litter of her own and seems to love being a caregiver to any infant or child she comes across.
Yami -- The first of a breed called 'Demon Tae'. While he only had one litter of his own, he also showed very fierce protective instincts towards his own children, and now seems to guard Karma with the same eerie vigilance. He's not obtrusive, but watches from a distance.
Chai -- Mate to Karma's Mimi, Chai is a rather laid back and easygoing Puri. Since he's never far from Mimi at all, it stands to reason that he would be here as well.
Neopolitan -- Neo tends to be a walking contradiction. One minute he's rambunctious and bouncing off walls... the next, he's passed out in a pile of fur and wings. Either way, he loves children and has been following Karma around like a puppy ever since her pregnancy was discovered.
Yeande -- At only five and a half inches high, Yeande isn't much on intimidation, but she has a common sense and quick wit that makes her perfect for coming up with solutions on the fly. It was Yeande that recommended bringing flowers when Youko told Envy about all of this. It didn't solve the problem completely, but it saved things form getting broken.
Thanatos -- The Doushikai healer that has become a constant companion to Youko. While he tends to be quiet and analytical at times, he also has a tendency to get a 'wild hair' and go off on animated tangents about whatever crosses his mind. He's a good one to have around right now.
Phantom -- The silent Mysthra, Phantom does not speak and only hums, purrs and 'sings' by trilling softly in varying pitch. He has been said to have the voice of an angel, and loves to lay in the crib with the baby to sing lullabies.
Jigsaw -- A rather muddled Notion that is into everything, and then some. Since he never leaves Youko's side, it stands to reason that he's here now.

Mimi -- One of Karma's elder and best-loved pets. Being that her namesake was the headstrong girl from the Rent musical, Mimi is, by nature, stubborn and willing to move mountains to get what she wants. As such, she was one of the first in mind to be a protector for Karma and Youko's child.
Gottschalk -- It was a rare occasion indeed the day Karma actually had a good idea. Gotts was the result. Though skittish and easily-dominated, Gotts is full of sound advice and good ideas...kids these days NEED a big honking angel to follow them around and dictate sense to them, after all.
Foxglove -- She has no outstanding qualities or talents, but her good nature and natural fluffiness make her the perfect bedtime companion...especially after awakening from a bad dream and wanting something warm and fluffy to hug.
Talonfaust -- Even at less than a foot tall, Tal believes strongly in protecting the "wyrmlings" from harm. If we could just get him to stop providing food in the form of crickets and sparrow eggs, we'd probably let him into the nursery a lot more often. o_o
Vhon -- Some claim to be plagued by Windigos. Others would say we were insane to allow one near a helpless infant....but honestly, Vhon is so quiet and detached from all around him that he does little more than hover there and emit a floral scent. That and when he's drifting about the nursery, he acts as a wonderful deterrant to intruders.
Mouko -- Because every kid needs a big brainless bodyguard to protect them from bullies trying to steal their lunch money! biggrin
Transluscien -- It feeds on pleasant thoughts, thereby leaving room for the dreamer to have more of them. Its mere presense is enough to keep nightmares at bay. At night it perches on the crib's edge, gently exuding its aura of presense over our little one.
Silvain -- The nerdy pushover babysitter every rambunctious child prays to end up left with for a long weekend while Mom and Dad take care of business elsewhere. Silvain certainly means well, but doesn't have a mean or defensive bone in his body. On the other hand, its not every day you can say both you AND your babysitter cowered under the bed to hide from the boogieman in the closet...
