Family iiiis:

Name: Aster Crosslie
Age: 22
Occupation: Student Pirate. Depends on which is more likely from day to day.
How did she get stuck with this charge: She bloody asked for it!
Profile: One part pirate, one part complete geek, Aster has received many a description and moniker by friends and acquaintances alike when it comes to her thoughts and actions. She swings from day to day from being an unparalleled genius when it comes to ideas... or running around like the equivalent of a ten-year-old at Disney World. In terms of being a researcher, it's really a mixed bag of surprise when it comes to the results. She could either hand you something brilliant, or blow s**t up. Given the fact she passed all her biology labs with flying colors yet failed Chemistry is probably good testimony to this. Oh, and Genetics.

Aside from this, Aster is also quite the experienced and accomplished pirate. You want it, she can get it, some way somehow, either using wiles of connections or stealing it blind using methods people just ignored for one reason or another. This would probably explain why she manages to get s**t on Gaia when she's broke so much of the time. She's also experimented with the infamous termed by her 'Ranma Syndrome,' where basically females get turned into guys for a bit. She only spent a couple of months as "Bishie Aster" before she decided enough was enough and it was really creepy to be a guy and turn back. However this did lead to the creation of "Allister Crosslie," a twin of sorts. Only girlier, more flirtacious, and an all out wuss when it comes to anything creepy. Definitely not the spider killer in the house, even if he is the boy.

There are a few other little quirky niches to Aster's life [such as the Terra Pard Sanctuary, host to more freaky a** cats than Aster can really remember, even if her and Zahra are responsible for a large number of them. .... What? Genetics was a FUN class.]

Athena [ninja cat]
Titanium [eefil Mendel boy]
And loads of other critters I have around here ^^;

Happy funtime RP newsman!

Friends, Pets, other Relatives:

Quote:

Eridani - Libra's only met this little water baby a couple of times, briefly, but the little bit of playing they did together was pleasant enough. Eri's already a sweetie, so adding that with Libra's cheerful attitude she always has made things pretty smooth. They also exchanged names for their toys.

Vulpecula - The feisty foxy fox Astra came in another night when Aster tried to use the ARC as an excuse for a babysitter. =P At any rate, since Libra wasn't the best ^^

Pavo - Libra met the original Mr. Viceridden himself the same night she met Vulpecula! He gave her a good pat on the head and she surprisingly mimicked Vul and said his name. ^^ Of course.. then when I got her home she kept saying it for *everything*.

Camelopardalis - He came in since his mom had to step out and found Libra entertaining herself while Aster attempted to destroy someone else's kitchen with her coo-- *Aster shoves Allister away from typing* -- while she was occupying herself with baking a cake for Halloween! Anyway, Cami avoided her at first because of her cootieness, but when he found out she was blind he kinda warmed up. He also said Dolly was pretty. Libra kept wanting to stomp her feet so they'd make the clonking noise his hooves do. ... Ti spent that evening on his shelf perch.

Mythology

The constellation, which originally formed part of the scorpion's claws, is the youngest of the Zodiac and the only one not to represent a living being. In Greek mythology, the constellation depicts the scales held by Astraea (the Virgin), the goddess of justice.

Astrology

The astrological sign Libra (September 23 - October 22) is associated with the constellation.

In some cosmologies, Libra is associated with the classical element Air, and thus called an Air Sign (with Aquarius and Gemini). It is also one of the four cardinal signs (along with Aries, Cancer, and Capricorn). Its polar opposite is Aries. Each astrological sign is assigned a part of the body, viewed as the seat of its power. Libra rules the lower back and internal reproductive organs. The symbol for Libra is the Scales. Libran qualities include physical beauty, strong sensuality, artistic sensibilities, tact and diplomacy, and an innate sense of fairness and balance.

Libra, the Scales, can be found between Scorpius and Virgo, Libra is the age old symbol of justice, harmony and balance.

It is interesting that to the Italians, French, Germans, Anglo-Saxons, and Romans the constellation was the scales.

The early Greeks did not recognize Libra as the scales, but included it as the claws of the scorpion. Credit is usually given to the Romans for creating this constellation as a sign of the autumnal equinox. The constellation first appeared in the Julian calendar in 46 B.C. The constellation appears again in 43 B.C. in which a comet appeared during the same year as Caesar's assassination, the writing indicates the comet took his soul to heaven, this comet may very well be the same one seen in 531, 1106 and 1680; its next apparition will be 2255.

However, the Egyptians, Hebrews, Persians and Syrians all had it on their planetspheres and called the constellation the 'weigh beam' or scale beam. The Arabs followed the greeks including it as part of the scorpions claws.

Oh god, it's finally happened. My aunt was right, I never should have pressed my luck for all those years saying I was never gonna get married, have kids, etc. etc. Then again.. maybe I can get away with this because I technically didn't HAVE this kid. More like she erm.. fell at my doorstep. Let me 'splain. No, wait, there's not much to really say. Let me sum up then.

It all started with the basket on the doorstep. A classic set up many a way to get back at those in life who have said they plan on being single, footloose and fancy free for the rest of their lives. DAMMIT. I'd stayed up the night before, chilling on the balcony with Athena after spending the day fixing up Ti's little corner of the apartment.

I was glad he seemed pretty pleased.. considering all the effort I'd put into the decorations in an attempt to turn a section of a shelf into a mini-apartment for him, if he'd been a less charming person I probably would have thrown something at him. Who is Ti? Um... good question. For now, just know he's my Mendel and pseudo.. other kid. Karma doth bite me in the a**. Anyway, naturally, I didn't think much of the shooting star I spotted, the one from the corner of the sky Libra hangs around. Oh noooo, I was too busy thinking about other things like how to get the cat to stop waking me up at 6 am begging for food.

Until the basket. The cute little basket with the adorable little purple toddler who cooed and burbled contentedly all wrapped up in that pretty lavender blanket with her dolly. With a note attached that read simply the words "Two new kids in 2 days! You have your work cut out for you."

... So, I wonder how Mom'll react to know she's the grandparent of a snake and a blind star. I think she'll take it well. Better than Allister will probably take considering he panicked over the idea of me being a mom.

I shake my fist at you FATE.
Journal Entry 2: Shopping!

So, to decorate a nursery. Oh boy. It was something I'd never really considered doing before, for numerous reasons. One was obvious; Pirates aren't notoriously known for being attached to someone [aside from that whole mail order bride thing with Zari. that one is legally binding but if anything, it's more a way for us to share profits from our looting of others' bounties biggrin ]

Aside from that, I figured for the entirety of my piratey life, that well, the only time I'd be envolved with kids was if they were someone else's and I was corrupting the little buggers or murdering their school bullies. It's only proper for an auntie to do so, right? Right.

And now here I was decorating a nursery for my OWN kid. I wondered if somebody up there had something against the poor child...

Regardless, the kid was here, and unless I wanted to be known as the weirdo mom who made her infant sleep in a basket, she needed a room. As Allister so 'eloquently' put it. Damn him and his whole.. logic.. thing. He volunteered to babysit. Ti volunteered to go with me. I think mainly because he wanted to see what he could sneak in for himself. Which.. I'd let him get away with. Just this once. Sure. Mhm.

After several hours of oohing and ahhing and flailing over choices and arguing with Ti that NO, he could NOT get his own entertainment center for Bond movie nights and then stemming myself getting a few new shiny furniture pieces, we finally managed to pick out a fairly cute nursery set.

Inspired by Libra's cute purple skin [that and the pink or blue thing? totally, totally overrated], we settled on a nice purple and silver for the nursery. The crib was white, with a cute little purple stars and moons on the blanket in there. The walls were a lot of the same: moons, stars, little comets and planets in silver on this dusty light purple shade. Not too dark, yet not too light either to make it hard to sleep. We also got a chair in there for those 3 am crying fits and a dresser for all her things.

And Ti also got a few nice things for himself. Eh, he's a teenager, they're all supposed to be consumer whores. That and.. it was either buy it or have him find some way of getting it later behind my back. Still, it's a pretty room, even if it's sorta more for me and knowing Libra has a nice nursery and not so much for her, since the little dear can't see it. But it's the thought that counts right?
Journal 3: Adventures in... children.

Wow, it seems like everyone these days is having kids. I've got kids. Brina's got kids. Zari's gonna HAVE a kid [Mercury!]. Britain and Orasteele HAVE KIDS AND ARE GETTING MORE! When the bloody hell did this happen?! AND HOW?!

Pirates don't think of kids. I know this. Years on the high seas and I can't for the life of me ever think of a sober or drunken time when I gave kids a thought. Well, unless there were these cute ickle kids on the dock while we pulled in.. but that's not the point!

It's just weird to have to share my life now. To be responsible and set a good example and take care of things and shite. No more staying out all night. No more unbridled cursing in the house [which makes ALLISTER HAPPY THAT @#$#%$#!! how the hell are we related again?! >_@;;;!!], or late night parties. Now when I go to work I have to actually work there instead of hang out.

But in the same token I like it. <3 Libra's a sweetie, she's so bubbly and giggly. Half the time you'd think she really could see, she interacts so much with her playing, and she always knows whether or not we're in a room, even if we're tiptoeing all ninja like in. Even the cat. Which is great because she's taken to turning around suddenly to whatever direction the cat is coming to her to startle her. Poor Athena, that cat's nerves are gonna be shot before she's five.

I'm taking some braille classes so I can learn how to read it and stuff. That way when she gets a bit older I can start teaching her how to read. Her vocabulary has really taken off thanks to interacting with some of the other Astras though. It seems like every time I come home she's learned a plethora of new words. She doesn't bother much with sentences yet, but she makes her point usually with little to no trouble. It's a simple pleasure to watch her, or play with her, or talk about how she's gonna be mommy's little pirate when she grows up who'll command a big crew and kick a** even if people don't think she can 'cause she can't see, and her name will resound through the Seven Seas [and five major oceans!]. Ahh, dreams of the future.

Okay, maybe being a mom isn't so bad. If anything, I have plenty of people to spoil the kid and get her out of the house for a few hours.
Journal 4:

I'm a bad bad person. I feel guilty sometimes not paying as much attention to Libra as I should. Sure I play with her, take care of her when I can, and if I can't Allister does. I keep Titanium from trying to corrupt her, and all the dangerous stuff even a normal baby could get into has been moved out of sight or out of her way. But have I been as close to her emotionally as I should?

I think that answer is prolly not. Libra's situation is one I can't really relate to, at all. I'm probably a dumbass for thinking that makes things different buuuuut, to me it does. I carry her around and have fun with her, but at the same time it's kind of a gip to take the kid to a zoo to show her the zebras when she can't really see what a zebra is. I suppose maybe she gets the idea from my descriptions.

At any rate, I'm a jerk for not thinking about it sooner and getting into gear. Out of all my erm.. kiddoes, Libra's the one who needs me most after all. Cedric's at least confined to his cup so I don't have to worry about him running off anywhere, and Ti well... he's made it apparent he's a pretty independent boy.

I just wish it weren't in ways that resort in me freaking out and having a drunken nervous breakdown. But the past is past, and I cannot change it! So, on to the future!

First thing I guess I should do is sign up for Braille class. Kiddo's gonna need it.
