This will be one of the RP threads for the Tsukuribanashi-Yuniko (who shall henceforth in all related posts be referred to simply as the "Yuniko" wink . Specifically, welcome to the Meadow of Dreams, home to the light-type Yuniko. But what you ask, is their story? Sit down, young'un, for a moment, as I spin a tale of creation, conflict...and magick.

History of the Land of Shinwa

There was a time, when the world was young, when creatures now known as being mythological roamed freely, and everything was bright, vibrant, and practically thrummed with life--from the deepest oceans to the highest mountain peaks, the world seemed to sparkle.

It was in this setting that the unicorns walked the earth. Of course, they didn't call themselves "unicorns"...instead, when they referred to themselves, they called themselves the "Tsukuribanashi-Yuniko". However, even among the most ancient of these immortal creatures, there were questions as to how they'd come to be...for none had ever seen one born, and there were no females of their species. Instead, from time to time, a young unicorn would simply appear in their midst. They were all possessing of pale coats, and seemed to float through the forests and meadows in which they dwelled.

However, as time went on, there appeared in their midst a unicorn whose coat was pitch-black, his hooves a fiery shade of red. He called himself Drui'in, and it was said that from him all evil entered the world. Those with coats of the darkest pitch were seen as ill omens, and shunned by their peers. There formed warring factions amongs the Yuniko, as the dark unicorns (who came to be known as the Kurai) strove to control all of their kind, perhaps because of closely guarded resentment at being so utterly rejected by their bretheren.

Over time, Yuniko...found ways to reproduce with human women, their obsession with fair maidens perhaps explained in part by their lack of feminine companionship amongst their own species. It was never spoken of, the effect this mixing of blood had on the women it was forced upon...but the babies born were, at least in appearance, fully Yuniko. The first of these cross-breeds to be born was Rhyvyn, who was fully accepted amongst the lighter faction.

Over the next century or two, there were between a dozen and fifteen of these halfbreeds known to have been born, most of them adopted into the fold of the brotherhood of light, although there were a few dark Yuniko halfbreeds born...however, like their full-blooded counterparts, these darker Yuniko were considerably rarer, and many times more powerful. Then, overnight, every pure-blooded Yuniko disappeared, as if they'd been whisked abruptly from existence.

In the aftermath, the young Yuniko banded together...at least, within their separate factions. It was thought that things would continue as they had before, with the battle of "good" and "evil" waged endlessly between the two types of Yuniko. However, the game changed when, at an age of about 200-250 years, Rhyvyn was the first to...evolve, in a flash of blinding light. Suddenly, he had some human characteristics that were melded with those of his Yuniko ancestors. He suddenly found it easier to walk on his remaining two hooves, and to use his newly developed "hands" for picking things up, or examining things more closely.

It wasn't too long before all of the young half-breed Yuniko had undergone the same transformation (at least, it wasn't long by their standards...after all, being immortal, what's 100 years or so? XD). This, unfortunately, took the battle to an entirely new level, as their new forms allowed the remaining Yuniko to "bond" with a human, and to draw power from that bond...however, they discovered quickly, they could only bond with one, or perhaps two, humans at any given time...

Description: The Meadow of Dreams

User Image

The Meadow of Dreams, as it is called, is the haven of the light Yuniko. It's filled with grass that comes to about the knees, every blade aglitter with dew in the early morning, as the mist dissipates slowly, leisurely, revealing millions of blades of grass, each a slightly different shade of green than the one next to it, ranging from an almost bluish green to a bright greenish yellow.

The South, west and Eastern borders of the meadow were surrounded by the lush, verdant Chik'yun forest, and the northern border led up to the gently sloping beginnings of the Myrr'him mountain range. At the base of Mount Raesthirn (the mountain closest to the meadow, and the beginning of the Myrr'him) lay a placid, sparkling pool of the purest, most clear water that could be found.

The Yuniko of light defended the secrecy of their haven fiercely, although, being the force of "good", they couldn't actually kill interlopers, and so instead relied on charm, and in rare cases, seduction, taunting the occasional interloping human with a flash of pale skin through the trees, or perhaps a glimpse of horn, although they never allowed any other than their bonded to catch more than a fleeting glimpse. Even their chosen bonded humans, however, were not permitted to set eyes on the meadow itself, for fear that the Kurai might find a way to have them followed.

Description: The Fuzen Forest

Not much is known of the Fuzen Forest, named by the Kurai themselves, perhaps to mock the reputation they'd acquired, through actual deeds or not. The forest is a rugged, difficult place to make one's home. The trees grow thick, their branches gnarled almost beyond recognition. It's also said that, for non-residents to enter the forest after nightfall is to have a deathwish, for it is said that there are all manner of nightmarish beasts that roam freely through it, none more frightening than the Kurai themselves, with their magical abilities, seemingly geared towards violence...

Name: Rhyvyn
Gender: Male
Type: Light
Age: Unknown
Siblings: Sam
Personality: Inquisitive, but also shy and wary of new things, Rhy is, nonetheless, very protective of his little brother, who he dotes on. Unlike his younger brother, he had the benefit of living among their own kind for a century or so before all of the pure-blooded unicorns disappeared, virtually overnight. Because of this, perhaps, he remains rather arrogantly prejudiced in concern to the darker members of the Tsukuribanashi-Yuniko.
