A few things of note: I, Syrie, am taking over the shop with Vashtya's blessing. I'm working on some rules for any/all colorists that wish to guest/work for this shop making Yuniko. I am also restricting mule access to keep things neat, clean and in control. I despise messiness! (shhh, it's true, I really do).

Guest artist applications are currently: closed. If you're interested in guesting when we have openings, feel free to PM the mule. However, until things are a bit more caught up and organized (aka: setlled, cripes), I'm gun-shy and reluctant to actively seek out guests. When I feel a little more on top of things, I will open a thread in the guild and post in this thread with information.

Of course, Vashu is always welcome to art, talk or even demand I change things ;D

Thank you! --Syrie

Please note, this intro is temporary, as I don't like how it came out, so I'll be re-writing it ASAP. --Vashtya

You knock tentatively, wondering what on earth this brightly-colored building could be...after all, you didn't remember there being a building here the rich green of pine needles, with a sparkling, golden door yesterday. Not hearing a response, you open the door slowly, marvelling at the paintings depicting frolicing unicorns that cover the walls. As you look closer, you notice that they almost seem to tell a story, but before you can decipher what that story is, some sixth sense that you didn't know you had has you whirling around and diving to the side, just in time to avoid a cleverly shot fireball. The caster obviously has full control, however, for the ball of flame dissipates mere inches from the richly-colored walls.

"Who goes there?" a smooth, deep voice asks, just before a black and red yuniko steps out of the shadows...and he doesn't look pleased. You look around nervously, and begin to stutter out the story of how you happened to notice this new building and just wandered in, when a friendly looking young man with vibrant red hair emerges from a side door carrying a box. Noticing your obvious distress, he sets down the box, looking around curiously til his sharp grey eyes settle on the aggressive dark yuniko. "Lucien, cut it out...if you can't behave better than that, then I'll sic Rayne on you!" he says, practically twitching with mirth as the yuniko gives him a dirty look.

At this point, another human emerges from the selfsame side door, this one female, and cute. She also just happens to be wielding a broom. "Geez, Vash...this place is a mess--couldn't you have hired a cleaning crew or something?" she says, wrinkling her nose in distaste at the sight of the obviously well broken-in broom. When Vash doesn't reply immediately, she looks up, and smiles kindly at you, shooting Lucien a glare as she notices your still-shaky hands. "Lucien...tell me you weren't threatening this kind person?" she says, her eyes narrowing. When the Kurai yuniko simply mutters something, she smiles brightly again. "Please, don't mind him. Honest, they're not all like that..." she trailed off as she notices another small face peering around the door. "Take Rhyvyn here--both he and Lucien are bonded to Vash, but they're about as different as night and day...but you probably haven't got the foggiest idea as to what I'm talking about, do you?" she says, looking at Vash expectantly.

Clearing his throat, Vash begins to explain, his speech punctuated by flamboyant gestures. "...and that's how we got here, and why we'll occasionally try to find people to bond with the Yuniko we know are needing someone." he finishes, exhaling in relief. "And let me tell you, that story's quite a mouthful..." he murmurs with a grin. "But, enough about me--you're welcome to hang around here as we set up, or you can wander through that door," he continues, motioning at the door through which he and Rayne had entered "and you'll end up in a more cozy room with a TV, some couches, and maybe even a few Yuniko." He tapers off, reaching down to pick up the box he'd discarded a few minutes before, shooting Lucien another warning glance before wandering off with it, humming off-key as he does. Rayne disappears after him, rolling her eyes at his obliviousness.

Questions? Comments? Post in-thread or bring your concerns to the staff, and we'll be glad to address any and all concerns you may have. <3

All Yuniko are male unless specifically stated otherwise!! Females are rarer than hen's teeth.

On Deities
  • All future deities must be made and approved by Syrie or Vashtya -- we'd like them to remain extremely rare and as special as their deified status demands!

Regarding Females
  • Requests for female Yuniko must be brought to Syrie, Lady Ourania and Ishtar - it is within the realm of the Goddess to create others in her image, but all requests must be approved both OOCly and ICly.
  • Requests must be sent to the mule to be OK'd, then they will go to Lady O. Please keep in mind that there's no guarantee it will be accepted.

Breedings
  • Two male Yuniko may breed. It's magic!
  • Any two types of Yuniko may breed (Light/Kurai, Light/Butterfly, etc.) but the chances are very, very high that any resulting offspring will be Light-type, as it is the most common type. Occasionally a breeding will create Hybrids - however, hybrid Yuniko with combined types are quite uncommon and are often sterile (See below).
  • Yuniko may breed with humanoid pets from other shops, IF we receive permission from the OWNER/manager of the other shop, along with a link to the shop. Offspring from such breedings will be hybrids, and much like mules, they will be sterile.
  • Hybrids are 99.999999% sterile. They cannot "breed" without outside help (IE: GMFC or other shop of that nature) and any offspring gotten that way would not be certed as Yuniko, though you would be more than welcome to play them in this thread.

Guest Artists
  • We love guest artists -- but we ask that any and all artists wishing to draw for us fill out the form in the Staff post and PM it to the mule, please. We'll get back to you in as timely a manner as we can.

Types:

Light
Light type Yuniko are usually predominantly light in color, and believe themselves to be the "good" kind of yuniko--their powers are more geared towards protection spells, although it's been rumored that, in the older light-type yuniko, those skills meant for protection can be used for offensive attacks when they feel threatened (like, for example, if you had a yuniko who had an ability to make things grow, perhaps they would use that rapid growth to make a thorn grow rapidly to a large enough size so that someone might injure themselves on it...if you need more clarification, let me know <3).

Light types have a tendency of being affectionate, playful, and somewhat naive...although it shouldn't be assumed that they're naive to the point of ignorance, as they wouldn't have survived as long as they have if that were the case. They're decidedly social, although they hide their secrets well, for the most part. ((also, please keep in mind that you have a lot of freedom with these personalities, this is just a general guideline for you to work from if you have no idea where else to start))

Light types usually have one speciality, although in older yuniko (those like Rhy, who have been around for quite some time), there are cases where they can become quite profficient with other types of magic. They draw a lot of their power from more difficult or costly spells from their bonded, which may leave the bonded leaving weak and dizzy, although these effects are temporary.

Kurai
Kurai are dark in color, and, according to the light type yuniko, in intent as well. However, there's rumor that perhaps they're more resentful of being judged as "evil" by their lighter-colored counterparts simply because they were born to blend into the night, rather than being suited to the daylight hours like their kin. Their powers are more geared towards the offensive, and they have a more natural inclination towards the use of magic than light-types, making them more powerful--it about balances out, since the light types exist in larger numbers.

The Kurai are usually more sly and secretive, and in many cases, more aggressive. They tend to be quick-witted, and possess a sarcastic, biting sense of humor, especially when provoked. Whether this actually proves the beliefs of the light-types or not is a matter of debate, since some might claim that the kurai have taken on this attitude due to the automatic assumptions made by their ancestors upon the discovery of the first black unicorn.

Kurai are usually skilled in two areas of expertise (for example, fire and wind, if I stick with basic types), although older yuniko are more well-rounded, having had years to perfect the use of their magicks. The kurai also draw upon their bonded during times where they use their power for extended periods of time, since their difficulties usually lay in the using of their powers for extensive periods of time.

Pegasus
This subspecies of yuniko is winged, and may be able to fly.

Butterfly
These winged yuniko differ from the pegasi in the fact that their wings are more like butterflies or moths. They tend to be smaller than other yuniko.

Elemental
Elemental yuniko bear a particularly strong affinity for one of the elements, so much so that their physical forms reflect this affinity.

Seraphim
Seraphim are innocent and inquisitive, and have multiple pairs of wings, and sometimes a halo. More info shall be added as more is discovered about this mysterious subspecies. heart

Deities
In their area of expertise, deities are unparalleled. None of the yuniko who exist now have ever met one of the gods and goddesses who created them, and it could be questioned as to whether all of the deities walk on two legs, or whether some of them take the form of a full-bodied unicorn, as the yuniko's ancestors did.

Unlike the light and kurai yuniko, these deities do not draw on their bonded for power, at least, not in the same way. They do, however, gain power from the faith and trust of said bonded, and so the closer their bond, the more power the deity gains from the relationship. Deities are even more careful than other types of yuniko when choosing a bonded, since there's far more to be gained, or lost, by the choice.

Halfbreeds
These rare half-yuniko are occasionally produced by the love between a yuniko and a mate of another species.

Stages:

Unicorn:
Not all of these will grow to become anthromorphic yuniko, as the unicorns are only distributed via a speed-type flatsale. When the sale is announced, it will also be announced just how many of them will grow into yuniko, and, after all are sold, a randomizer will be run. fully RP-able, they come up to about mid-chest on a normal-sized yuniko.

Chibi:
Acquired only through breedings, these youngsters will be a bit wobbly, and are only beginning to develop any powers they have. Any magic they possess will tend to suit their personalities, and is still weak.

Adult:
Congratulations! You have a full grown Yuniko on your hands--some may depend heavily on the use of their magicks in the performance of everyday tasks, while others may use them sparingly--it's all up to you, as is the further development (in the case of those who have watched their yuniko grow from infant to this stage) of their powers, or, in the case of those chosen by an adult, it's up to you to realize just where their strengths and weaknesses lie.

This post is for the display of fanart or winning contest entries~!

This entry won the contest for Ishtar, our Creation Goddess:

Lady_Ourania
Forget Me Not

It was unquestionable that this pale young human female was lost, if the stumbling and the cursing did not immediately make this fact obvious, then the way that she continually looked up at the canopy seeking the night sky to observe the stars did. She could have tracked her way back home with the twinkling markers, but they were hidden from her view by thick darkening green foliage, and so she sighed and continued to move forward.

Thorny and abrasive plant life left thin trails of blood where they raked her legs and arms while a cold wind blew and numbed. She could hear her mother's voice in her head, explicitly stating how dangerous the forest was and citing multiple other reasons not to venture into its boundaries.

And it has started out as such an innocent day; one of the first of summer where everything was in full-bloom and the air was rife with smells both pungent and sweet. The sun had felt like a long sought after caress against her skin; the winter months had been long and she was absolutely miserable without sunshine. As she had bathed in the light, Arfin, a debatable friend and a wily cohort, had caught her looking into the woods with that typically dreamy expression that had caused her troubles in the past. "What is it about the forest that attracts you so, Ourania?" he questioned, as he carefully bent his long-bow to string it.

The young girl startled from her laying position, frowning at him for interrupting her thoughts. "Nothing, really, it's just beautiful."

Arfin snorted, uncoiling the length of string and notching it. "Your opinion, no one else's."

"It is lovely, people are just much too suspicious." She retorted, drawing herself up to sit. "I'm sure there is nothing more dangerous in there than a few chipmunks."

Arfin shook his head, laying his bow down and putting his hands on his knees as he leaned forward to look at her. "You don't know that. I've heard there are creatures in there, evil beasts with horns as long and deadly as swords. They lure you with their eyes; enchant you with illusions of grandeur and beauty. And when you come close enough they skewer you and lap up your blood with their long, slimy tongues."

"That's ridiculous." Ourania growled, standing and glaring down at him. "Why would anything want to drink human blood anyway? We have to be the most unsanitary of all food groups, and the most fattening."

Arfin inclined back, dark eyes narrowed against the sun behind her. "You think it's funny, but there have been plenty of people who have gone into the forest never to come back."

"I wouldn't come back either, all that's here are bunch of gullible, illogical farm boys." She huffed, "Did anyone ever care to think that maybe they just came out on the other side?"

Arfin stood, looming over her a good foot so that his long red hair whipped into her face. "If you're so certain that there isn't anything in there, why don't you go yourself?"

"Fine!" she hissed, grasping her pack and throwing it over her shoulder.
"And when I come back I'll make you eat your words and use your bow to throttle you!"

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

That had been four hours ago, she wondered if Arfin was worried yet.

She yelped when an inconspicuous root caught her foot and made her fall forward without ceremony. Eagle-spread on the ground, face planted in the soil with an aching ankle and punctured eyebrow where a sharp rock had caught her, she rolled over and looked up into the green awning of the forest ceiling. "I hate my life." She snarled to no one in particular.

And now she was talking to herself, definitely not a sign of mental prosperity.

It was at that time that she heard it, blood dribbling into her eye from her wound while she stared blankly at where the sky should have been; it was faint, so quiet that at first she was certain she had simply imagined it. But then there it was again, a soft, bell-like noise that made her go stock-still. The rest of the animal kingdom seemed to have fallen silent, even the breeze that had before whistled in her ears was quiet.

Ourania turned her face ever so slightly, eyes widening when she saw quick movement around the trunks of nearby trees. There was only a vague impression of dark blue and trace amounts of gold before it disappeared from her view.

That, she thought fearfully to herself, was not a chipmunk.

The shape was humanoid as it darted across her line of vision once more, possessing elegance and true agility unlike anything Ourania had ever laid eyes upon before.

She realized, with some amount of astonishment that it was bounding without restraint, jubilant in its blurred movements; whatever it was, it seemed to be dancing. The girl narrowed her eyes, trying to identify a face within the swift twirling, but was largely unsuccessful. She felt, suddenly, a horrifying build up in the back of her eyes and around her nose that informed her she was going to sneeze. She plugged her nostrils with two fingers carefully, eyes beginning to water from the need to blow out her sinuses. She released her nose just in time to avoid imploding; unfortunately the sound reverberated through the forest and made the creature stop its activities almost immediately. There was a distortion in the air and it was gone.

Ourania sighed, angry with herself for not being able to keep from making noise. Now she would never find out what the creature had been. She let herself rest on the ground for a bit longer, allowing the frustration to well up and burn.

Then it was there, at her feet, knees bent and almost sitting as it peered at the young girl curiously with large almond-shaped eyes.

Ourania gasped, and half rose before dizziness overtook her and she fell to the ground. The creature had startled as well, jumping back and landing lightly on cloven feet. The young girl shook her head to clear the cobwebby feeling, wondering if she had hit it too hard in the fall from before. When the red swatches across her vision cleared, she was able to take a better look at the strange creature before her. The girl's breath left her lungs in adoration and awe and she felt tears gathering in her eyes.

It was sheer magnificence encased in a corporeal form: its skin was sapphire with a hinting of golden lattice down the left side of the body. Its large, luminous eyes were as fair as the sunlight she had long since loved and its lips were powdered with the same precious aureate coloring. Its hair was violet-blue, highlighted with bullion and appearing to be soft and touchable with another tuft of similar colored fur puffing out from the end of its tail. And also, protruding sophisticatedly from the center of its forelock, was a tawny spire, curved with a deadly tip. Ourania had heard briefly of these beings before, Yuniko they were called, beings of the ancient world. She had been certain they had all passed out of existence, but now, staring at this one, she was quite sure she, and most of the people who inhabited her town, were wrong.

This Yuniko was female, its clothing doing little to hide this fact, and she appeared to have taken an interest in this young, clumsy girl. The Yuniko took a few hesitating steps forward, kneeling on the ground next to Ourania and carefully touching a hand with long, tapering fingers to her bloodied brow. The girl flinched and scuttled back, wondering if it's long, slimy tongue was going to lick her wound. The thought made shame rear up within her, the Yuniko hadn't appeared to mean her any harm and it most definitely had not impaled her upon its horn as Arfin had suggested.

The Yuniko took a step toward her patiently, eyes displaying nothing more malicious than honest inquisitiveness. When the girl did not move away the Yuniko took another stride and closed most of the distance between them with her long legs. She kneeled down again, offering her hand up for inspection. There was a little crimson splotch where her fingers had connected with Ourania's wound, and the girl, stumped, could only shrug. The Yuniko frowned, moving closer and pointing to the young woman's head.

"Oh." She said, understanding. "I hurt myself, I umm... fell down." She gestured with her hands, feeling absurd talking to such a striking being about her insignificant hurts. The Yuniko nodded, her eyes processing the information before she rose and quickly jumped away. The movement dislodged dirt and dead leaves but there was otherwise nothing to tell that the creature had been there at all.

Ourania, floored at this latest development, looked around and saw that the Yuniko had in fact vanished from scrutiny. Disappointment tugged at her heart, very real and painful, she had seen one of the most exquisite creatures in all of existence and had just as quickly chased it away. Arfin would not believe her tale; he would probably say that it was a trick of the mind caused by bumping her head.

Just as quickly as the thought completed itself, the Yuniko was back, hand full of crushed leaves and flowers. It knelt down beside her once more, pointing to the foliage in its hand and then back to her head. Ourania was overjoyed to see the female return but she could only look at the leaves dubiously. "Is that supposed to help?"

The Yuniko nodded affirmatively, pressing the plant matter against her brow with a decided judiciousness. Ourania was surprised when the ache faded almost immediately.

"Thank you." She said happily, heart full with excitement. Maybe the Yuniko would come back and meet Arfin, it would certainly set him straight. When she got on her feet to suggest it, however, she discovered that her ankle would not hold her weight and she fell forward into the female Yuniko. The creature caught her, appearing uneasy at the full body contact but still not releasing her. She was stronger than she looked and smelled of early morning dew and unfamiliar flora.

"Damn." Ourania cursed, tears starting in the corners of her eye. "I can't get back to the village like this..."

The Yuniko stared at her uncomprehendingly and Ourania realized that she couldn't understand what had happened. Half choking on keeping her sobs inside so that she wouldn't frighten the Yuniko, she pointed to her ankle and pointed to the forest around them. The Yuniko's brow furrowed, then lightened with appreciation. Ourania hoped she had managed to get her point across.

The midnight colored female kneeled down, her back to the human and gestured with her hands. Ourania was certain that the language barrier would never permit a real understanding between them, but she knew what the Yuniko was offering and felt mortified. "You can't be suggesting that you carry me back..."

The Yuniko looked over her shoulder, only the slightest of lines on her forehead and an almost undistinguishable downward curve to her mouth indicating her impatience. She continued to stoop, still managing to look majestic even through the slightly demeaning position she maintained.

Ourania blushed and quickly stood, leaning against a nearby tree for support as she carefully wrapped her free arm around the Yuniko's neck while putting her unhurt leg toward where the creature's waiting arm was. Ourania screeched when the Yuniko gripped her leg and promptly stood, forcing her to hop onto her back fully or find herself in an awkward position. The expanse of the Yuniko's back was smooth and cool to the touch, her grip against the girl's legs was firm but not painful and the aroma of flowers once again filled Ourania's nose, sweet like syrup or molasses; it trickled down her throat and filled her lungs with a contended heaviness that would otherwise have not been present. Where had she smelled such a flower before?

Then the Yuniko was running and Ourania didn't have time to worry about the floral scent. The trees passed by in a haze of motion and, the girl swore, parted before the dark blue female in waves. The wind whipped the Yuniko's hair into the human's face and she was amazed at how soft it seemed, like spider-silk brushing her skin. Ourania felt the muscles beneath the layer of sapphire, bunching up and releasing so quickly that it was a wonder to her that they simply didn't rip. They were traveling speedily, every time she attempted to focus on a far away object it rushed up to meet her and made her eyes doubt themselves. After a while the novelty of it all faded and she felt her eyelids drift slowly shut, the scent of still unidentifiable flora lingering in her senses.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

When Ourania awoke, the first thing that filtered into her brain was the fact that she was laying flat on her back; she then came to the conclusion that this was in some way, odd and then her mind did a double take and she was completely conscious. She was in an open field, and as she sat up to assess her surroundings more seriously she smelled a strong hint of the Yuniko. She looked around, fully prepared to see the blue female, but nothing met her eyes except for the vibrant indigo flowers that she had been sleeping on before. They spanned out as far as she could see until they met the forest where they ceased growing; she was finally outside.

The female was gone, not even a hoof-print or a trampled flower to tell of her. Ourania felt loss grip her tightly, crushing her chest in its grip. She looked in her hand, dimly surprised to see that she had gripped a blossom when she had stood and pulled it away. She frowned, gently bringing the crushed blue flower up to her face and inhaling. It smelled exactly like the Yuniko.

She heard Arfin's voice in the distance, calling her in a tone filled with worry. She looked up and then glanced back down at the flower, a sad smile creasing her face when she realized its species. Ourania plucked a few more, twining them in her tresses, and called back to Arfin so that he could find her.

When he found her, she was sitting awkwardly on the ground and tears were pooling like slow rain in her eyes. Her hair was wild and full of small, fragrant flowers; delicate and blue as the Yuniko had appeared to be, and they were called forget-me-nots.

Far as I'm concerned, I don't wanna mess with that kinda attitude in my shop. -Vashu.

Although the concept of unicorn-based anthros is not mine to claim, all artwork, unless otherwise specified (as in the tags and banners) is copyright to me, Vashtya, as is the Backstory, History, and the world itself

heart Much thanks to Rayne Winner for always being uber-supportive, and for offering to muddle through all've the organizational aspects of things! heart

Kipestshin designed the first set of banners seen in the shop, and also deserves much in the way of Thanks for encouraging me to get this idea off the ground in the beginning, and for offering to help me with the art side of things if I get overwhelmed. heart

The Tags are copyright to Ballentine, who ALSO deserves Thanks, if only for being suitably enthusiastic when I bounced ideas off've her. heart

I also need to Thank eviktedRei, for all the support, as well as for the oh-so-generous offer for help with the art side of stuff if I get utterly buried heart

In addition, MazokuPS deserves much gratitude, for being willing to make us buttons with which to ask others to link to this shop. heart

We also owe thanks to our guest artists--ALL of you are awesome for offering up your time and work to attempt a yuniko! heart

Much Credit goes to Klar, whose awesome artwork inspired me to draw unicorn-anthros myself heart
