Hello, and welcome to the Leviathan Project! My name is Sasha Cormante and I am the Head Researcher here on the USS Leviathan.
The story of the Leviathan Project begins in Hawaii in spring of 2003. I was the lead researcher at a small international biological station devoted to studying communciation between Pacific Whitesided Dolphins. Perhaps not the most exciting or original study, but I have always loved marine mammals and I was happy to be a part of it.
However, that spring we had a large hurricane some miles off the coast of Hawaii. During a break in the ferocious wind and waves that battered the island I saw a large blue form lying on the beach. I was afraid it might have been one of the wild dolphins that hung around that station. During a hurricane, there was a chance the dolphin had beached itself, or worse been smashed into the beach by the waves!
Calling for help, I ran outside to check on the animal. However, when I got closer I realized that this creature was no dolphin. What I saw on the beach was a marine mammal undiscovered by humankind. It was blue, 7-feet (roughly the size of a adult dolphin) and had a horse-like head and mane. In other words, what I appeared to have discovered was a legendary Sea Serpent. The Serpent looked starved and was greatly injured and we quickly took him to one of the station's holding pools and did what we could to calm him and treat his injuries.
Flash foward to now, the beginning of 2005. That Serpent has become Cypher, an overfed and overloved companion to all the researchers here. By observing him, we've learned a lot about Serpents; however, we're embarking to learn a lot more. Join us, my friends, on the USS Leviathan! Our goal is to sail around the world lead by Cypher and his radio collar, and to learn about Sea Serpents in their natural habitat. I don't know what we'll see or experience, but it's sure to be amazing.

Something immensely exciting has happened! Even now, the ship is reeling with the impact of it! A new species of Sea Serpent has been discovered. Not only that, but they seem to be on some sort of migration route! The Leviathan has been following them for the past week and... Ah. Let me get a minute to organize my thoughts and write this entry in an organized manner.
While docked in the Japan, we took aboard a number of dignitaries and other guests in an attempt to spread information about the Sea Serpents. We expect to find much of our resistance in Asia. With China behind us through Meiying's contacts we have also received some gestures of approval from Korea and Taiwan. However there is little goodwill between China and Japan for Meiying's contacts to lean on and the Japanese goverment has long been unable to balance its peoples' needs and its enviromental needs. It is, after all, one of the few countries left where whaling is a profitable and corporate buisness. But I digress.
Our tour of the Japanese coastline started out very smoothly. We had a good number of guests about and particpating in several of the crew-planned activities. Cypher and I fielded questions in the Research Lab and I feel we made a good impression on our guests.
However, we started having problems a hour into the voyage. Initial reports of rocky seas brought on by possible storms began to become more and more alarming as the seas grew more rocky and the skies stayed beautiful and clear. We were mystified and I admit rather alarmed, when the frightening news came through the radio. The violent seas we were experiencing weren't from far-away storms, they were from what appeared to be undersea earthquakes. Our radio lines lit up as the mainland began attempting to find the source of the tremors and to calculate what risk there was if any of a tsunami. For a tsunami to come upon the USS Leviathan while we were so close to shore... for it to come upon Japan at all... it would spell disaster for millions of people, as the world has learned.
I admit there was some panic on the Leviathan as we tried to figure out what to do. Some wanted to take our guests back to the mainland in an attempt to get to high ground while others thought that was too extreme as there was no actual sign of a tsunami. Others wanted to go deeper out in the ocean to where the Leviathan would have less of a chance of striking the shore or the coral reefs around Japan. The fact that the other boats has long since cleared out of the area only made the situation feel more urgent. And I? I was preoccupied with what to do with Cypher. Selfish, I admit, that in the middle of debates about how best to protect the lives of dozens of people, I was obsessed with how to protect one wild creature.
Thankfully, we never had to make any of the decisions we were debating.
As the phenomina grew closer, Cypher reacted with a flurry of frantic movements and squeaks. It was almost exactly the same reaction he had to the Everblue pod we discovered, so many weeks past. My reaction was half hunch and half adrenaline and running on the memory of that pod I set off to the Observation Deck. Alan tried to stop me but I am faster. My formal shoes are also quite pointy, as he now knows. I can't regret that though. My well-placed kick allowed me to see an amazing sight.
As I emerged onto the deck of the Levithan, an enormous head emerged from the water and drew almost parallel to the deck. The creatures eye was perhaps as large as I myself am. The behemoth was immense, perhaps forty feet or more as it slipped past the ship like a snake. I clung to the rail as the ship was tossed like a toy in the the wake of this new Serpent. For a moment the sea was full of these true Leviathans, creatures so like the deadly Sea Serpents in a hundred sailors' imaginations. Then every head sank into the water and the great vibrations began to move on.

Alan had emerged behind me in time to catch sight of these new Serpents. Quickly, the two of raced back down to tell the others of our discovery. While the guests were distracted by crew games (thankfully we shut down the Observation Deck when the seas became rocky and new species went amazingly unseen) we released Cypher into the ocean. I was certain he would follow the pod and we in turn would follow the trail of his radio collar.
We have returned our guests to Japan and are now hot on the trail of these creatures. Judging by our readings on Cypher, we are getting near them. I cannot wait to see them again. I cannot wait to see where they are going.
These are the discoveries the USS Leviathan was created and launched for.

All old logs can be read in the USS Leviathan's journal

Leviathan Rules
1) Please read all of the information in ordering information and avaliable serpents before PMing me. Most questions are answered there, and
asking about buying a serpent when there isn't a sale going on doesn't really get us anywhere.
2) You may own as many Serpents as you want. However, I ask that people use moderation. A store is no fun when there are only a few people.
3) Please DO NOT buy a Serpent for a mule. If I find a serpent belongs to a mule account, the serpent will be taken back by the store and resold. If you continue to use the Serpent's image for your mule you will be reported for art theft.
4) This should something we all know by now, but do not steal images. If you do, I will fill your life with misery and woe.
More rules coming if we need them ^^

You've greatly helped!
Everdark - for being my soundboard and art critic even when she'd rather be in bed. <3

Black List

Caedes

Should we direct-link our Serpent?
Please direct-link your Serpent until it grows into an adult. Then you have two weeks to move your adult to your own image hosting.
How long does it take a Serpent to grow?
It takes a Serpent a week to hatch from its egg and two weeks to grow into an adult, regardless of species.
Can I RP my Serpent?
You're more than welcome to! All RP is being moved to the Leviathan guild right now.
Do I HAVE to RP my Serpent?
No, but RPing gives your Serpents a better chance at more eggs when/if you breed and there will be other benefits that unfold as I move the threads.
Anymore questions? Ask and ye shall receive. ^^

The Everblues
The Everblues were the first Sea Serpent ever discovered by the Leviathan Project. Everblues are somewhat comparable to dolphins. They live in large pods of 20-30 Everblues and develope strong family bonds. Grown children of both genders have to choose wheither to stay with the pod or leave it to form their own. Everblues can be found in almost all of the open oceans of the world.
Everblues are very playful fellows and are often found performing dazzling leaps and displays in the water. They also communicate through squeaks and chitters, so expect a lot of noise from an Everblue!
Everblues have both gills and lungs and can survive for a limited amount of time on land. However, once the lungs have used all the air they have stored in the Everblue's air sacs, they are too weak to draw in new air and the Everblue will suffocate in 24 hours. More information will come as we learn about these creatures!

The Coraleaters
The Coraleaters were originally discovered in the Great Barrier Reef off of Australia, but they can be found in coral reefs worldwide. Currently they are the smallest Sea Serpents, at an average length of only two feet when fully grown.
Coraleaters are very flashy and brightly colored and with good reason; they are extremely poisonous. Coraleaters secrete a poison from their frontal chest spines that can easily kill most larger animals.
Coraleaters live in small family pods of 4-10 Coraleaters and can be very territorial. Female Coraleaters will usually stay with their pods when they become adults while males usually leave to find a new pod.
More info will come as we learn more about these graceful animals.

The Deepsea Divers
The Deepsea Divers seem to live out in the open ocean. They are an immense species and can grow to be 40-50 feet long, if not longer.
The Deepsea Divers live deep in the ocean at depths where light can't penetrate. They have phosphorescent skeletons and seem to rely heavily on sonar, perhaps because of their poor eyesight. Like most giant sea creatures the Deepsea Diver consumes mostly plankton with occasional small fish. Unlike most filter feeders however, the Deepsea Divers filter water out through slits behind their cheeks. If necessary, their mouths are fully capable of taking a large bite out of their targets.
Currently we do not know if Deepsea Divers usually live in large or small pods. They do seem to migrate in large pods though.

Sea Serpents can be gotten through six different ways.
Through a flatsale, a raffle, an auction, a custom order or through breeding.
Flatsales:
Flatsales will be advertised in the thread and will take place on the date and time stated in Avaliable Serpents. Flatsale Serpents cost 3k and are given out on a first-come, first-serve basis. The only exception to that is people who have be given a flatsale reserve, allowing them to claim a Serpent before the flatsale begins. Reserves are given out at shop discretion, DO NOT ASK FOR ONE. Please use the order form when buying a flatsale Serpent or your order won't be acknowledged.
Raffles:
Raffles will take place in the thread and will run from the dates stated. Each raffle ticket is 100g and buying for friends is allowed. There is an unlimited number of tickets in each raffle.
Auctions:
Special Serpents such as Gen Os will be auctioned off. The starting bid for all Serpents is 1k and the minimum bid is 500g. Auctions do not occur often.
Customs:
A semi-custom serpent may be bought for 40k at any time. Semi-custom includes choice of species, color, the use of any patten (including Japanese patterns) for body, fins or mane and choice of gender.
Full customs is not open.
Breeding:
Currently we do not know how Sea Serpents breed.
Pet Trades:
Want to trade pets? Try PMing USS Leviathan and we'll see how it goes!
Serpent Trades - (I'm rather picky about these guys)
Pending - None
Shrimp Trades - (I'm much less picky about these.)
Pending - None ^^
Don't own a petstore? I'd be interested in a pet trade for an offspring, provided it's from your pet and the petshop owner doesn't mind.
Pets I'm interested in:
Surprise me?

Serpent Breeding
Currently breeding is not yet open for Sea Serpents. We don't know how or where they breed.
Shrimp Breeding
Even wanted a Hogwarts rave? Or a Star Wars sunset? Or even a Gullien on fire? Now you can, because breeding is open for Firecracker Shrimp! Two shrimp can breed for 1k, total. There will be between 1-3 eggs and baby shrimp can be kept byt their parents or given away to friends. (But never sold!) Baby Shrimp are presented in a Shrimp Basket, so the parents can decide who gets which egg. When you've decided on the shrimp, their owners and what cert the shrimp get, PM that information to USS Leviathan!
Since it's impossible to tell Shrimp genders, any two shrimp can breed! Both shrimp owners must give permission for their shrimp to breed and post images of their shrimps in the thread. Gen 2 Shrimp cannot begin to breed until there are 35 of them.
Shrimp Breeding Slots -
1 - Olethea (Mystaira) x Galiana (Mystaira)
2 - closed

Breedables Shops

Our first affliate, Nimue is a shop run by Gull's friend Everdark. Say hi to her, Ed is teh awesomeness. Gull does breeding color there, so don't be surprised to see her hanging around the thread. ^^

Gullien got her dragon Matthias from this store and loves him muchly.

A store with a fun premise and some cute art run by our own Mistress_Ice!

A store with a great storyline. Jestari is a wonderful person to RP with.

Terrenity's store. Terrenity is a sweetheart and a very reliable person who runs and excellent store!

Dragoil's cockatrices. Gorgeous lineart and coloring; it's sure to please. ^^

A cute breedables shop owned by Tatsudoshi and Kita21 with little pets that come from soup. What? It makes as much sense as anything else! Besides, the cube stage is darling.

A My Little Pony based shop run by Agent_W. Very cute retro stuff here.

A great shop with an innovative RP and very original art. Quant stuff

A very cute little umbrella-cat shop run by lilyla19. She's a newbie shopowner, so be nice to her! >:C

Timeerkat's store. It has cute and cheap lil Candian critters for sale. Lots of flatsales, so you're sure to get what you want soon! I like the beaver.

Sneeeeeeeps! Cute! Cute, cute and darn cute. And they can bingo. :3

The Stargrove is a fun place that has free animal lineart that you color and cert yourself. Great for beginners!

Twiddle's sexy shop of Final Fantasy luff. They're hiring!

A great store with free antromorphic lineart that you dress and color yourself. A store for those more advanced in making lineart edits, although there are some outfit templates available.

Minishops!

xTwisTx's pixel minishop. She has some really really cute stuff. ::eats TwisT marshmellows:: ^^

AoiElf's Peenquin minishop. I'm jealous! All of her peenquins are so cute and there's lots of outfits to choose from!
Want to be affliates with Leviathan? Just PM and ask! Here's our code!
However, please be aware that if you ask us to affliate and then never put up our banner, we will take yours down. >.>;
