Ssala: This spirit snake served as Riven's Seer and advisor during his past life, and continues to do so now as well. Ssala is loyal, wise, and thoughtful, although shi has a tendency to hide stuff from Riven 'for his own good'. Shi also serves as a constant (sometimes annoying) reminder of his responsibilities and duties as Spiritkeeper. Ssala's power is that of the oracle - with concentration, shi can enter a trance and see possible futures, though she doesn't remember them afterwards. Hir means of prophecy is through speaking while in trance, and it is often up to those who hear hir to interpret what hir words mean.
Mithril: A few nights before Riven's rebirth, the kirin Verlashi appeared from the core of a falling star. At first, he was arrogant and haughty, utterly ignoring the humans and frustrating Sosiqui to no end. Still, his devotion to Riven cannot be denied. Mithril has fought tooth and claw for Riven, and would give up his life for his master. He protects Riven at all costs, even against Sosiqui herself - which has led to a few tough situations in the past. Mithril is the Guardian of the Moon Door, the gateway to the Spirit Realm, and possesses the power to manifest the Moon Path when the moon is full. Currently, he has resumed his post as Guardian in the Spirit Realm, having accepted that Biome is Riven's true familiar - and not himself, as he had hoped. This has led to a bit of distance between himself and Riven, but at heart Mithril remains loyal, even if standoffish.
The Spirits: The Spirit Realm is home to many spirit beings, all of whom are non-organic - i.e. they aren't ghosts or formerly-alive creatures, they are and always have been creatures of pure spirit. Most of these beings (though not all) are allied to Riven and will aid him; all of them will give their lives to protect the Spirit Realm and keep the Barrier whole. The spirits were originally created by Riven when he himself was newly made - they are genderless and do not reproduce.
There are many distinct kinds of spirits living in the Spirit Realm - among them the karmadoi (great snakes, masters of venom), kyrei (long-fingered creatures, skilled at both healing and harm, quite dexterous), liros (bird-like beings with abilities relating to heat), achen (spirits similar to spiders or crabs, uncommonly fast and with the power to paralyze), santari (large catlike creatures, strong - not terribly clever, but good at taking orders), and syreut (delicate deerlike beings with power over moving air). There are also the hyvaren - small orb-shaped spirits much like pyreflies, silly, flighty and hyperactive but strong in great numbers.
All of these beings can be summoned from the Spirit Realm when Riven performs a summoning rite using his spear, Aeintor - provided that the individual spirit has sworn a vow of loyalty to Riven. Once summoned, the spirit will fight for Riven with all its strength, for as long as Riven can hold the link between himself and the Spirit Realm.
Vhara: A syreut, Vhara is the leader of the spirits that dwelled in Tiers Anwis, the City of Folly, in the Spirit Realm. The spirits held a very long and rather justified grudge against Riven for actions done in his past life, and which the Spiritkeeper has recently sworn to repay. Vhara and its people don't quite trust Riven yet, and they certainly haven't sworn fealty to him, but at least they're not actively trying to torment him anymore.
Centares (status unknown): One of the stars given to Riven by Gabriel (Hoshi) the Starkeeper. In Riven's past life, Centares was wise and willing to reveal much about the world below to the curious Spiritkeeper. The star's current status and location are unknown.
Airi: Riven considers Airi, the first of the Fa'e, as... not precisely a friend, but certainly not an enemy. He respects her and acknowledges that she has knowledge and wisdom that he doesn't, but the two of them butt heads at several points - especially regarding Chaos. Airi seems to think that Chaos being sealed away is somehow unfair, which is absolutely ridiculous and beyond comprehension for Riven. He would like to discuss this more with her sometime, to try and understand - but he still finds it quite difficult.
Anen: The spider Fa'e has helped Riven out a few times with his unusual powers relating to the lines of fate, although most of this occasions ended up with Riven running panicked away to take care of... whatever was wrong. Riven would very much like to sit down and talk with Anen under better, calmer circumstances.
Arkanti: Riven got the opportunity to run with this rambunctious Fa'e while looking for Mortimer and Anya's gem. Arkie is a huge handful, and while Riven finds him amusing he was also VERY grateful that he could give Arkie back to his Guardian at the end of the day.
Astaroth: Riven is rather curious about the demonic Fa'e - as Riven's moral compass aligns along balance-to-chaos and not good-to-evil, he finds 'Lord Astaroth' (as he calls him) to be a useful, balancing counterpart to some of the more 'good' Fa'e such as Shina. Though he doesn't know Roth well at all, he would like to speak with him further and perhaps spar together, spear to spear, in a friendly match.
Aylana: She is one of Ghlyssa's 'blood sisters'. Riven has met Aylana a few times, and while they aren't very close he knows the night angel is one of Ghlyssa's closest friends - which makes her more than okay in his book.
Callix: Riven has only met Callix once; however, he has heard of the Fa'e child reborn from Sire's lifeblood. Because of his friendship with Sire and the deep loss he suffered when the other Fa'e killed himself, Riven is wary and a little bit afraid of Callix - although Riven knows none of this is Callix's fault, he reminds Riven too much of that night and his old friend, so Riven has quietly avoided the younger Fa'e. But now, with those events a year past and a chance encounter at Prom, Riven is feeling a bit more ready to approach Callix.
Hoshi: Riven knew Hoshi in his past life, when the starry Fa'e was known as the Starkeeper Gabriel. At that time, it was Gabriel who gave Riven the gift of stars, which served as windows out of the Spirit Realm so that Riven could observe the worlds below - and that was quite a catalyst to many events, both good and bad. Still, Riven is ultimately thankful for Gabriel's gift. Unfortunately, Hoshi has been missing for some time. Riven would like to thank Hoshi and talk over those old times now that he has remembered that the star Fa'e was present, but that seems like it might never happen now.
Lethe: When she was a toddler, Riven danced with her and kept her company for a while at the Fa'e Prom. He found her amusing, and charming despite her young age. He would like to meet her again, and see what kind of Fa'e she has become in the intervening year.
Morion: The dragon Fa'e has sought out Riven's aid several times, most notably after his Guardian passed away. Riven took Morion to the Spirit Realm, where souls and spirit beings are more visible and clear, and the dragon was able to speak with the soul of his Guardian before she vanished. Later, after Morion found a new Guardian in Britain, he came to Riven seeking help in finding Anya, Airi's missing Guardian.
After meeting with Rionne and learning of the Fa'e's strange fate, Riven is even more interested in meeting with Morion and discovering what has become of him after the cataclysmic soul-split.
Mortimer: Morty become known to Riven first as the bearer of Anya's gem, a strange task but one Riven does not envy. He is unsure as to Morty's motives, and even more unsure about what the lion Fa'e says about Airi, but Riven knows that Morty's words are true and that he takes his newfound duty very seriously. Thus, Riven has a high measure of respect for Mortimer, despite only meeting him a few times.
Naia: While Riven doesn't know Naia all that well, he did help the mermaid Fa'e out once when she was troubled with guilt and confused emotions over a storm she apparently caused.
Nozomi: Somehow, Nozomi has become one of Riven's closest companions - not precisely a friend, but more like a daughter. Riven assumes a mentor role with Nozomi, and greatly valued her company, loyalty and skill while on his journey through the city of Tiers Anwis, the City of Folly and last bastion of Riven's lost memories in the Spirit Realm.
Nyoka: A redoubtable warrior. Riven doesn't know Nyoka closely, but he does respect her, her level-headed judgement, and her skills in battle.
Onuris: The Egyptian Fa'e was another childhood friend of Riven's; his drawings as a toddler made Riven smile. When they were both children, Riven helped Onuris battle the incursion of a figure from Onuris' past, Fenyang. While he hasn't seen Onuris in quite some time, Riven holds no doubt that the Fa'e remains as cheerful and friendly as he always was.
Raeith: The kirin Fa'e is gentle, kind, and filled with unconditional love for all life - something that Riven very much appreciates. Raeith and her Guardian, Mouse, opened their home to him when he was a child, and Riven has never forgotten it. He remembers Raeith as a warm and welcoming spirit.
Rei: The Angel of Death is one of Riven's oldest friends, and while they haven't seen each other in a long time they did grow up together, and the bond they formed then cannot be broken.
Rionne: Though very startled by what happened with Morion and Rionne, Riven sees no need to change his friendship with this new Fa'e one whit, for all that he's in a new form and body now. He has met with Rionne once, and been impressed by the Fa'e's growing resolve in the face of a truly terrifying occurance.
Sire (deceased): Sire was one of Riven's friend when he was a child; he once ran away to Sire's house and the two Fa'e (plus one of Sire's adopted brothers) considered forming a band for a brief time, along with generally making mischief. However, when Sire grew, he changed such that Riven felt the other Fa'e had become someone unfamiliar; that change became complete when Sire's Guardian died, driving the Fa'e to suicide. This hurt Riven deeply, being his first true experience with such loss, and is something he will never forget.
Sei: Riven is bemused by the odd maturity and deliberateness of Shina's son, but he rather likes the young Fa'e and finds his attitude to be strangely similar to his own - if a bit disquieting.
Shina: One of the kindest Fa'e Riven has ever known. Shina is another one of Riven's friends from childhood onward, and that friendship has never frayed. Riven is especially thankful to Shina for her rescuing of Ghlyssa when the plant Fa'e's first Guardian, Svrellia, passed away.
Silver: The wolf Fa'e was a great companion when he was younger; however, Silver seems to have changed a great deal. When Riven last saw him, he was tainted with a dark cloud that, though not associated with Chaos, Riven felt was greatly throwing off the other Fa'e's personal life balance. As such, Riven is uncomfortable around Silver now, and feels unable to trust him half as much as he once did.
Xochitl: Riven cannot manage to say 'Xochitl' for the life of him, much less spell it, so he simply calls her 'Orange'. He met the wild little Fa'e when she was a toddler, and was rather amused (and a bit bemused) by her antics.
Yanisin: A gentle yet strong Fa'e. Riven values Yanisin greatly, and worries about him; he was one of the foremost pursuers when Yanisin was lost in the woods, and one of those most angry after the deer Fa'e lost his sight. Though Riven has found it difficult to visit Yanisin since, struggling with the memories of that fateful day and the feelings that he had somehow failed, he would like to see Yanisin again. (Note that Riven is not yet aware that Yanisin has regained his sight.)
Sundragyn, Raynakre and Bronwen: A family of dragons. Sundragyn is Ghlyssa's second Guardian, and became such after the plant Fa'e's first Guardian and 'mother', Svrellia, died. Though Sunny doesn't consider herself as Ghlyssa's mother, she is definitely part of the family - as are, by extension, her brother Ray and daughter Bronnie. In particular, Bronnie has been pressed into service as a babysitter for Airyn on several occasions.
Cidrey: Upon growing into an adult, Riven's abilities strengthened - one of them being his power to see spirits. That particular ability grew to the point that Riven was seeing
everything, not just the non-organic spirits he holds an affinity with. And when he went out to spar with his practice spear, Sentor... he discovered that the old, mundane spear was actually not so mundane after all. In fact, it had a spirit bound to it - Cidrey.
Cidrey, once a highly skilled spear-master, was apparently around his late 30s when he was deliberately killed. The details are fuzzy, as it was (to quote Cidrey) "a very damn long time ago", but it seems that Cidrey was murdered with Sentor in a sort of mystic ritual, in an attempt to pass his skill with the weapon on to any who might later wield it. The skill bit didn't work out, but Cidrey's spirit was in fact bound to the spear. Since then (it isn't known exactly how long it's been, but Cidrey thinks it might be millenia - who knows) Cidrey has been tied to the weapon, following it from owner to owner, serving as a cranky and irritable commentator on everything to his unhearing audience.... unhearing, that is, until Riven came along.
Cidrey has appointed himself Riven's further tutor in the use of the spear, as well as a giver of (very blunt) advice. He is cranky, irreverent, blunt, and a bit profane... but he does seem to have Riven's best interests at heart. After his own, of course.
Niyati Devan: Riven met Miss Devan, a famous author, at the 2006 Fa'e Prom. He didn't ever get to speak with her one-on-one, but he was thoroughly impressed by the size and luxury of her house, and most especially by the quality and variety of her food.
The Demons of House Baphomet - Paimon, Rakshasi, and Astarte: A family of demons that Riven came to know through his daughter Airyn, who is classmates and best friends with young Astarte (nicknamed Star). Her father Paimon is a forceful but genial demon, and Rakshasi is a quiet and elegant demoness.
