Name: Riven
Meaning: To be split, broken or torn
Age: Adult
Height: Five feet three inches, but always floats about a foot off the ground (so would appear six foot three)
Species: Fa'e
Gender: Technically androgynous, but referred to as male
Sexuality: Physically asexual. Riven has no sex drive whatsoever.
Status: Engaged to the plant Fa'e, Ghlyssa.

Personality: Riven's theme is balance. He wants to be balanced within himself and to maintain balance in those around him. In moral terms, he thinks on a scale of balance-to-chaos instead of good-to-evil. Riven loves the natural world and everything in it, and is endlessly fascinated by even the littlest things that others might pass by. Many things in this world are new experiences for him. He loves order and cleanliness, and hates disorder, mess, and chaos. He also hates the idea of being penned up or restricted by others, whether in a literal physical sense, or an emotional/implied sense.

As an adult, Riven has matured considerably, and has tended to take on the role of a quiet leader and arbitrator more often - almost unconsciously at times. He is happy to give advice, always weighed along his own personal balances, and anyone asking him for help will be sure of Riven's careful thought and consideration if nothing else.

While Riven isn't as naive as he used to be, he still tends to take things very literally and to not understand innuendo or terms of speech. 'Riven logic' remains infamous among the Fa'e, as does his propensity for asking rapid-fire questions if he's curious about something.

Riven also has a shaky grasp of the English language, and while his vocabulary is much more advanced now, using words he's unfamiliar with - or words/names that are hard to pronounce - is a good way to confuse him. His spelling is also atrocious, and he reads rather slowly. Still, Riven is intelligent - he just tends to think a bit differently than most people.

Riven's goal is to know all about who he is, even the bits he seems to have forgotten, and to keep balance in himself and in the world as far as he is able to do so. He takes his duty as Spiritkeeper quite seriously, but he also wants to balance it with a life in the 'real world'.

Recently, Riven has begun to think more about finding true freedom - while he's no longer trapped in the Spirit Realm as he was during his first life, Chaos' continued existence does still bind him to his duty. Could there be a way to find real, complete freedom from his past? Hmm...

Morality/Alignment: Neutral.

Riven does not think in terms of good and evil. In his previous life, he watched 'good' and 'evil' do much the same things - sometimes 'good' committed more atrocities than 'evil', sometimes 'evil' was more beneficial than 'good'. Hence, he's come to see those concepts as meaningless labels. Besides, Chaos would happily eat both sides for breakfast, and what do silly things like that mean when faced with utter destruction?

Instead, Riven's morality operates on a balance-to-chaos scale. Things being in balance is the best state of affairs - things degrading into destruction and chaos is not proper at all. This is why he doesn't have a problem with the 'dark' Fa'e - they provide a counterbalance to all the 'light' Fa'e. Riven rarely has any reason or desire to make judgment calls on anybody's behavior.

This can lead to some sticky situations, of course - such as when Fenyang possessed Onuris. Riven realized that the possession was technically proper balance, as this was retribution for an act committed in Onuris' past life. Therefore, although Riven felt very uncomfortable about the whole thing, he couldn't think of a moral reason why he should fight against an act of balance. However, when it was revealed that Fenyang wanted to corrupt Onuris' "life river" powers, Riven finally was able not only to act but to convince Onuris to fight back as well - because that corruption would throw off the balance of countless lives.

Additional Information:
- Please do not use IC unless learned IC, thank you! -

Physical Abilities:
Floating (innate): Riven can float up to six feet above the ground if he chooses, but usually maintains a crusing altitude of one foot. Although Riven has wings, they are non-functional in Gaia and are in fact insubstantial. (In the Spirit Realm, Riven's wings do allow him to fly, though he doesn't often do so just because he isn't used to it.)

Phasing (innate): Riven can turn his whole body 'ghostlike' and phase through solid objects or people, and tends to do this on reflex when threatened or startled. Resolidifying inside objects, however, is a Very Bad Idea. Even turning back in water makes Riven quite ill. While phased out, Riven can still be hit by certain magical attacks, though not physical ones. If Riven is injured, the injured part of his body usually diffuses into an awkward half-insubstantial state until it healed.

Combat - Spear: Riven's preferred weapon is the spear. He has been learning the art of combat from many teachers over the years, including Ssala in the Spirit Realm, Biome on Gaia, and most recently the spirit Cidrey. After so much training, Riven is well above average with the spear, but neither he nor Cidrey feel he has reached master level... or a level equal to a true attack of Chaos.

Physical Immunities (innate): Because Riven's body is made of condensed spirit matter instead of actual flesh (though Airi's blood still flows through him, as it does through every Fa'e) he is immune to several problems that would normally plague fleshy creatures. Riven does not need to eat and drink - though he can do so if he desires, he doesn't have to. Riven primarily dines for pleasure or when it's socially expected of him. However, if he overindulges, the consequences are several days of stomachache while he waits for the slow digest-and-diffuse process to remove the problem. Also, Riven cannot be infected by germs. There are no known contagions that affect spirit matter beyond the deadly mire of Chaos himself.

Magical Abilities:
Spirit Awareness/Communication: Riven can sense and speak with most spirits, and dectect spiritual power. At this point, this involves anything related at all to spirits - everything from the spirits of the dead, to the spiritual essence of a tree. However, Riven can only see and attempt to interact with these spirits - he cannot compel them to do anything, nor control them. His level of 'spirit-sight' is something he has to consciously control... without dampening it, he'll see everything from ghosts of dead bugs to giggly forest spirits. Since this level of awareness is frankly annoying, he tends to keep it at a lower level.

Barrier Magic: Riven has limited magic related to shielding and protective spells, given to him so that he can maintain the Barrier in the Spirit Realm. Given the raw magic materials and time enough to do so, he can build, repair and maintain a very effective barriers that block most attacks, with a special strength against Chaotic power. However, high-level barrier spells of that nature are extremely difficult to set up, require a good deal of power (usually obtained via willing sacrifice of spirit beings), take a long time to create, and must be placed in one specific location for the duration of the spell's life. They aren't movable, flexible or fast, but once erected these special wards can, given proper care and 'feeding', last for a very long time indeed.

Spirit Travel: Using a special 'anchor' crystal, Riven can travel instantaneously to the Spirit Realm and take others with him if he so chooses. The caveat is that all those who come with him have to be physically touching him, and he has to willingly bring them along. Also, although Riven can travel to the Spirit Realm physically, those he brings with him will only come in spirit - their bodies will remain behind. Once Riven returns, they will wake up again in their own bodies.

Riven can also use this ability to travel between special 'transport crystals' in the Spirit Realm itself. Currently, Riven is unable to travel to the Spirit Realm without the assist of the anchor crystal. Riven also cannot travel to any other place besides the Spirit Realm.

Summoning: In order to fight, Riven summons beings from the Spirit Realm. There are many kinds of beings that Riven can call to him for help (full listing here), each of which has its own special method of fighting and defense. Any spirit that Riven calls must swear fealty to him prior to their summoning - if a spirit has not made that bargain with Riven, it cannot be called upon to fight.

These beings are summoned using Riven's spear, Aeintor.

Special Posessions:
Aeintor: Riven's ancient weapon, a powerful spear with a blade made of crystal. Aeintor can be called to Riven at any time he chooses and in turn is used to summon spirits from the Spirit Realm. While Aeintor is a strong weapon, it is also quite limited - the crystal blade is attuned to Chaos and Chaotic power, and thus will harm only Chaos or those touched by Chaos. The blade will pass harmlessly through any other being. However, the spear's shaft can be used like a quarterstaff if the need arises.

Sentor: Since Aeintor's magical blade makes it useless for proper sparring, Riven purchased another spear, Sentor. This spear is completely mundane, made of the usual materials and with no true magical properties (i.e. Riven can't summon it up like he can Aeintor, he has to carry it). Sentor is a bit more difficult for Riven to use, but since it's effective as an edged weapon against more than just the Chaos-touched, it's a bit more useful for general battle.

The one odd thing about Sentor is that it has a spirit, Cidrey, bound to it.

Panpipes: The green crystal panpipes are made from a bit of crystal from Riven's childhood Secret Place, where Ghlyssa's power caused a great crystal flower to grow. They have no special powers, but Riven keeps them close for sentimental reasons.

Ghlyssa's Gifts: Actually two items, both given by the same giver - Riven's love, Ghlyssa. The first gift was a feather from her wings, which Riven always wears in his hair. The second gift was Ghlyssa's blue flower crown, given to him at Prom. The flowers have since dried but Riven still keeps them close at hand, and they seem impervious to crushing or other damage flowers would normally take.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Ghlyssa: The shy plant Fa'e is Riven's fiancee. They met when Riven was just a baby and have been fast friends ever since - and, around July of 2004, what was friendship developed into love. Riven still has a beaver plushie she gave to him in memory of their first playdate. Ghlyssa is naive, kind, gentle, a bit socially inept, and - to Riven's mind - absolutely wonderful. They were engaged in February of 2005, and have a daughter, Airyn. Riven and Glee live together in the Glade, a home made out of living trees by Ghlyssa's power, and he wants nothing more than to make her happy, and help her find the inner strength he knows she has.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Airyn Svrellia: Riven and Ghlyssa concieved Airyn through the GMFC after Glee decided she really, really wanted a child. Because of her non-magical conception, Airyn is not Fa'e but instead fully human. Born in May of 2005, Airyn was named after Airi, and after Ghlyssa's mother and first Guardian, Svrellia.

Airyn is a generally cheerful, curious child - vivacious around those she knows, shy (but easy to draw out) among those she doesn't. Airyn is also developing artistic talent, and loves to draw and paint, although she's still a bit shy about showing off her talents. Recently, she's also become sensitive about her own lack of magic... and, oddly, developed somewhat of a crush on the Fa'e Rionne.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Biome: This odd pair of biomechanical dragons were originally a single Fandangle Familiar, which Moorgahaine gave to Riven in September of 2004. What started as an unusual set of gears grew, eventually, into twin dragons - and into Riven's closest guardian 'beast' and familiar friend. While Biome talks about themselves in the plural, and each dragon is capable of operating apart from the other, they respond to the same name together and cannot be separated - they are siamese-soul-twins, with identical bodies but practically one mingled mind and one soul. Biome is mature, discerning, thoughtful, and wholly devoted to Riven.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Dillin: A gift from the kirin Fa'e, Raieth, Dillin is a kiri - a tiny mouselike creature about four inches tall. Like all kiri, Dillin is very hyper, curious, and gets into a lot of trouble. Unlike most kiri, however, Dillin doesn't care much for sweets, preferring vegetables instead. He also has a slight crush on the Fa'e Aurora, begun during an unfortunate incident involving spiked punch at the first Fa'e Prom.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Sosiqui to Aeina: This young woman is Riven's Guardian. Sosiqui came to Gaia under mysterious circumstances about 10 months before Riven was reborn into her care. Although she has a temper, is frequently impatient, and can be overly controlling, she genuinely loves Riven and thinks of him as her son. Sosiqui is determined, cheerful, caring, fairly clever - and has a large soft spot for videogames. She is also a kairomancer, a mage of time, capable of controlling time itself in limited, carefully defined ways.

Before she came to Gaia, her soul was broken into many fragments in an unfortunate accident in the Nexus (the centerpoint of all time and space, where kairomancers maintain order). Each piece landed in a divergent Gaian timeline, losing aspects of personality, memory, and powers in the break. Fortunately - or not, depending on your point of view - this Sosiqui remembers it all, and has managed to regain her powers over time as well. Sosiqui is determined to just live a normal life now, away from the politics and complications of her former life, and to grow beyond the breaking that destroyed it.

Though Sosiqui formerly worked as a freelance weaver of magical cloth products, primarily cloaks, she's found that lately the market has seemed saturated - so she's switched jobs. Sosiqui now uses her kairomancer powers to run 'Just In Time', a temporal retrieval service, much to Riven's confusion.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Kurrin: The newest addition to Sosiqui's household, Kurrin is an anthropomorphic platypus child from the Fourth Wall adoption center. After Riven moved out, Sosiqui's empty-nest syndrome swayed her into taking Kurrin into her home. The young platypus is originally from a dimension that is dying - her real parents passed her through a rift in time-space to the Fourth Wall center in hopes of rescuing her. Now a bratty child, Kurrin is cranky, crafty and a bit of a handful, but Sosiqui has hopes for her just the same.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Five: This little black mage was rescued from an alternate Gaian timeline, one inhabited by another fragment of Sosiqui's soul - one that was being slowly driven mad by the kairomancer powers she couldn't control. This desperate piece, known only as One since she forgot her real name, bought Five, a mage-construct created for use as a companion (or a weapon, or whatever) as her only friend. When Sosiqui traveled to that timeline with Aeina's help, she rescued One by merging their souls together again, thus regaining her former power over time. She also gained Five, who she took in as her ward. Five lives in a converted shed in the backyard, which is enough of a small house for him. Five is shy, vulnerable, and eager to please. (He also bears an odd resemblance to Vivi from Final Fantasy IX, despite being totally unrelated - something Sosiqui finds deeply amusing.)

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Chronos and Shangri: These two creatures are Sosiqui's familiars, creatures bound to her to serve as twin anchors and amplifiers for her magic power. Chronos is a Time Bandit, a small daemon born from a timepiece (in his case, an hourglass). He is calm, quiet and prefers mostly to observe, in sharp contrast to Shangri. The Fandangle Familiar is loud, rambunctious and extremely hyperactive - she doesn't do anything halfway, that's for sure. Shangri can also shapeshift into several clumsy animal forms, in tune with her chameleon spirit.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Aeina to Sailisi: A kairomancer of the Nexus, Aeina is Sosiqui's teacher and mentor from when she was an apprentice kairomancer - hence why Sosiqui bears Aeina's name. Aeina appears to be in her upper fifties, although she's actually much older because of the common kairomancer ability to function and live outside of the flow of time. She is quiet, wise and has a lot of common sense - and a tendency to smack said sense into people when she feels they lack it. Interestingly, Aeina has developed a sense of apathy to everything but those close to her, out of self-defense - serving as a kairomancer, especially a highly ranked one, is a very difficult job, and one that involves many hardships. She has a large soft spot for Sosiqui, though, and cares for her former student deeply (perhaps, partially, because she feels that Sosiqui's soul-breaking was her fault). Although Aeina doesn't show up often, being busy with concerns in the Nexus, when she does come it's usually a happy occasion. Sosiqui looks on Aeina as almost a mother figure.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Ssala: This spirit snake served as Riven's Seer and advisor during his past life, and continues to do so now as well. Ssala is loyal, wise, and thoughtful, although shi has a tendency to hide stuff from Riven 'for his own good'. Shi also serves as a constant (sometimes annoying) reminder of his responsibilities and duties as Spiritkeeper. Ssala's power is that of the oracle - with concentration, shi can enter a trance and see possible futures, though she doesn't remember them afterwards. Hir means of prophecy is through speaking while in trance, and it is often up to those who hear hir to interpret what hir words mean.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Mithril: A few nights before Riven's rebirth, the kirin Verlashi appeared from the core of a falling star. At first, he was arrogant and haughty, utterly ignoring the humans and frustrating Sosiqui to no end. Still, his devotion to Riven cannot be denied. Mithril has fought tooth and claw for Riven, and would give up his life for his master. He protects Riven at all costs, even against Sosiqui herself - which has led to a few tough situations in the past. Mithril is the Guardian of the Moon Door, the gateway to the Spirit Realm, and possesses the power to manifest the Moon Path when the moon is full. Currently, he has resumed his post as Guardian in the Spirit Realm, having accepted that Biome is Riven's true familiar - and not himself, as he had hoped. This has led to a bit of distance between himself and Riven, but at heart Mithril remains loyal, even if standoffish.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The Spirits: The Spirit Realm is home to many spirit beings, all of whom are non-organic - i.e. they aren't ghosts or formerly-alive creatures, they are and always have been creatures of pure spirit. Most of these beings (though not all) are allied to Riven and will aid him; all of them will give their lives to protect the Spirit Realm and keep the Barrier whole. The spirits were originally created by Riven when he himself was newly made - they are genderless and do not reproduce.

There are many distinct kinds of spirits living in the Spirit Realm - among them the karmadoi (great snakes, masters of venom), kyrei (long-fingered creatures, skilled at both healing and harm, quite dexterous), liros (bird-like beings with abilities relating to heat), achen (spirits similar to spiders or crabs, uncommonly fast and with the power to paralyze), santari (large catlike creatures, strong - not terribly clever, but good at taking orders), and syreut (delicate deerlike beings with power over moving air). There are also the hyvaren - small orb-shaped spirits much like pyreflies, silly, flighty and hyperactive but strong in great numbers.

All of these beings can be summoned from the Spirit Realm when Riven performs a summoning rite using his spear, Aeintor - provided that the individual spirit has sworn a vow of loyalty to Riven. Once summoned, the spirit will fight for Riven with all its strength, for as long as Riven can hold the link between himself and the Spirit Realm.

Vhara: A syreut, Vhara is the leader of the spirits that dwelled in Tiers Anwis, the City of Folly, in the Spirit Realm. The spirits held a very long and rather justified grudge against Riven for actions done in his past life, and which the Spiritkeeper has recently sworn to repay. Vhara and its people don't quite trust Riven yet, and they certainly haven't sworn fealty to him, but at least they're not actively trying to torment him anymore.

Centares (status unknown): One of the stars given to Riven by Gabriel (Hoshi) the Starkeeper. In Riven's past life, Centares was wise and willing to reveal much about the world below to the curious Spiritkeeper. The star's current status and location are unknown.

Airi: Riven considers Airi, the first of the Fa'e, as... not precisely a friend, but certainly not an enemy. He respects her and acknowledges that she has knowledge and wisdom that he doesn't, but the two of them butt heads at several points - especially regarding Chaos. Airi seems to think that Chaos being sealed away is somehow unfair, which is absolutely ridiculous and beyond comprehension for Riven. He would like to discuss this more with her sometime, to try and understand - but he still finds it quite difficult.

Anen: The spider Fa'e has helped Riven out a few times with his unusual powers relating to the lines of fate, although most of this occasions ended up with Riven running panicked away to take care of... whatever was wrong. Riven would very much like to sit down and talk with Anen under better, calmer circumstances.

Arkanti: Riven got the opportunity to run with this rambunctious Fa'e while looking for Mortimer and Anya's gem. Arkie is a huge handful, and while Riven finds him amusing he was also VERY grateful that he could give Arkie back to his Guardian at the end of the day.

Astaroth: Riven is rather curious about the demonic Fa'e - as Riven's moral compass aligns along balance-to-chaos and not good-to-evil, he finds 'Lord Astaroth' (as he calls him) to be a useful, balancing counterpart to some of the more 'good' Fa'e such as Shina. Though he doesn't know Roth well at all, he would like to speak with him further and perhaps spar together, spear to spear, in a friendly match.

Aylana: She is one of Ghlyssa's 'blood sisters'. Riven has met Aylana a few times, and while they aren't very close he knows the night angel is one of Ghlyssa's closest friends - which makes her more than okay in his book.

Callix: Riven has only met Callix once; however, he has heard of the Fa'e child reborn from Sire's lifeblood. Because of his friendship with Sire and the deep loss he suffered when the other Fa'e killed himself, Riven is wary and a little bit afraid of Callix - although Riven knows none of this is Callix's fault, he reminds Riven too much of that night and his old friend, so Riven has quietly avoided the younger Fa'e. But now, with those events a year past and a chance encounter at Prom, Riven is feeling a bit more ready to approach Callix.

Hoshi: Riven knew Hoshi in his past life, when the starry Fa'e was known as the Starkeeper Gabriel. At that time, it was Gabriel who gave Riven the gift of stars, which served as windows out of the Spirit Realm so that Riven could observe the worlds below - and that was quite a catalyst to many events, both good and bad. Still, Riven is ultimately thankful for Gabriel's gift. Unfortunately, Hoshi has been missing for some time. Riven would like to thank Hoshi and talk over those old times now that he has remembered that the star Fa'e was present, but that seems like it might never happen now.

Lethe: When she was a toddler, Riven danced with her and kept her company for a while at the Fa'e Prom. He found her amusing, and charming despite her young age. He would like to meet her again, and see what kind of Fa'e she has become in the intervening year.

Morion: The dragon Fa'e has sought out Riven's aid several times, most notably after his Guardian passed away. Riven took Morion to the Spirit Realm, where souls and spirit beings are more visible and clear, and the dragon was able to speak with the soul of his Guardian before she vanished. Later, after Morion found a new Guardian in Britain, he came to Riven seeking help in finding Anya, Airi's missing Guardian.

After meeting with Rionne and learning of the Fa'e's strange fate, Riven is even more interested in meeting with Morion and discovering what has become of him after the cataclysmic soul-split.

Mortimer: Morty become known to Riven first as the bearer of Anya's gem, a strange task but one Riven does not envy. He is unsure as to Morty's motives, and even more unsure about what the lion Fa'e says about Airi, but Riven knows that Morty's words are true and that he takes his newfound duty very seriously. Thus, Riven has a high measure of respect for Mortimer, despite only meeting him a few times.

Naia: While Riven doesn't know Naia all that well, he did help the mermaid Fa'e out once when she was troubled with guilt and confused emotions over a storm she apparently caused.

Nozomi: Somehow, Nozomi has become one of Riven's closest companions - not precisely a friend, but more like a daughter. Riven assumes a mentor role with Nozomi, and greatly valued her company, loyalty and skill while on his journey through the city of Tiers Anwis, the City of Folly and last bastion of Riven's lost memories in the Spirit Realm.

Nyoka: A redoubtable warrior. Riven doesn't know Nyoka closely, but he does respect her, her level-headed judgement, and her skills in battle.

Onuris: The Egyptian Fa'e was another childhood friend of Riven's; his drawings as a toddler made Riven smile. When they were both children, Riven helped Onuris battle the incursion of a figure from Onuris' past, Fenyang. While he hasn't seen Onuris in quite some time, Riven holds no doubt that the Fa'e remains as cheerful and friendly as he always was.

Raeith: The kirin Fa'e is gentle, kind, and filled with unconditional love for all life - something that Riven very much appreciates. Raeith and her Guardian, Mouse, opened their home to him when he was a child, and Riven has never forgotten it. He remembers Raeith as a warm and welcoming spirit.

Rei: The Angel of Death is one of Riven's oldest friends, and while they haven't seen each other in a long time they did grow up together, and the bond they formed then cannot be broken.

Rionne: Though very startled by what happened with Morion and Rionne, Riven sees no need to change his friendship with this new Fa'e one whit, for all that he's in a new form and body now. He has met with Rionne once, and been impressed by the Fa'e's growing resolve in the face of a truly terrifying occurance.

Sire (deceased): Sire was one of Riven's friend when he was a child; he once ran away to Sire's house and the two Fa'e (plus one of Sire's adopted brothers) considered forming a band for a brief time, along with generally making mischief. However, when Sire grew, he changed such that Riven felt the other Fa'e had become someone unfamiliar; that change became complete when Sire's Guardian died, driving the Fa'e to suicide. This hurt Riven deeply, being his first true experience with such loss, and is something he will never forget.

Sei: Riven is bemused by the odd maturity and deliberateness of Shina's son, but he rather likes the young Fa'e and finds his attitude to be strangely similar to his own - if a bit disquieting.

Shina: One of the kindest Fa'e Riven has ever known. Shina is another one of Riven's friends from childhood onward, and that friendship has never frayed. Riven is especially thankful to Shina for her rescuing of Ghlyssa when the plant Fa'e's first Guardian, Svrellia, passed away.

Silver: The wolf Fa'e was a great companion when he was younger; however, Silver seems to have changed a great deal. When Riven last saw him, he was tainted with a dark cloud that, though not associated with Chaos, Riven felt was greatly throwing off the other Fa'e's personal life balance. As such, Riven is uncomfortable around Silver now, and feels unable to trust him half as much as he once did.

Xochitl: Riven cannot manage to say 'Xochitl' for the life of him, much less spell it, so he simply calls her 'Orange'. He met the wild little Fa'e when she was a toddler, and was rather amused (and a bit bemused) by her antics.

Yanisin: A gentle yet strong Fa'e. Riven values Yanisin greatly, and worries about him; he was one of the foremost pursuers when Yanisin was lost in the woods, and one of those most angry after the deer Fa'e lost his sight. Though Riven has found it difficult to visit Yanisin since, struggling with the memories of that fateful day and the feelings that he had somehow failed, he would like to see Yanisin again. (Note that Riven is not yet aware that Yanisin has regained his sight.)

Sundragyn, Raynakre and Bronwen: A family of dragons. Sundragyn is Ghlyssa's second Guardian, and became such after the plant Fa'e's first Guardian and 'mother', Svrellia, died. Though Sunny doesn't consider herself as Ghlyssa's mother, she is definitely part of the family - as are, by extension, her brother Ray and daughter Bronnie. In particular, Bronnie has been pressed into service as a babysitter for Airyn on several occasions.

Cidrey: Upon growing into an adult, Riven's abilities strengthened - one of them being his power to see spirits. That particular ability grew to the point that Riven was seeing everything, not just the non-organic spirits he holds an affinity with. And when he went out to spar with his practice spear, Sentor... he discovered that the old, mundane spear was actually not so mundane after all. In fact, it had a spirit bound to it - Cidrey.

Cidrey, once a highly skilled spear-master, was apparently around his late 30s when he was deliberately killed. The details are fuzzy, as it was (to quote Cidrey) "a very damn long time ago", but it seems that Cidrey was murdered with Sentor in a sort of mystic ritual, in an attempt to pass his skill with the weapon on to any who might later wield it. The skill bit didn't work out, but Cidrey's spirit was in fact bound to the spear. Since then (it isn't known exactly how long it's been, but Cidrey thinks it might be millenia - who knows) Cidrey has been tied to the weapon, following it from owner to owner, serving as a cranky and irritable commentator on everything to his unhearing audience.... unhearing, that is, until Riven came along.

Cidrey has appointed himself Riven's further tutor in the use of the spear, as well as a giver of (very blunt) advice. He is cranky, irreverent, blunt, and a bit profane... but he does seem to have Riven's best interests at heart. After his own, of course.

Niyati Devan: Riven met Miss Devan, a famous author, at the 2006 Fa'e Prom. He didn't ever get to speak with her one-on-one, but he was thoroughly impressed by the size and luxury of her house, and most especially by the quality and variety of her food.

The Demons of House Baphomet - Paimon, Rakshasi, and Astarte: A family of demons that Riven came to know through his daughter Airyn, who is classmates and best friends with young Astarte (nicknamed Star). Her father Paimon is a forceful but genial demon, and Rakshasi is a quiet and elegant demoness.

August 30th, 2005 ~ In order to halt Airi's fading, a party of Fa'e led by Morion (and including Riven, naturally) track her to another world and rescue her... but her body is nowhere to be found, and her soul is trapped in a gem. Still, the retrieval of the jewel seems enough to revive Airi.

April 26th, 2006 ~ Airyn's first birthday!

July 24th, 2006 ~ Riven has a startling incident with Cidrey, in which the spirit actually seems to posess him for a moment. Worryingly, the Fa'e feels as though the sensation is somewhat familiar, and is unsure about what that might indicate - but he's definitely uncomfortable with it.

August 10th, 2006 ~ The 2006 Fa'e Prom! Riven attends with Ghlyssa, and they have a wonderful time with absolutely no Chaos incursions - despite Riven ending up in bed for the next few days due to overindulging on Niyati's sumptuous catering.

September 9th, 2006 ~ Riven meets Rionne for the 'first time', and learns about Rionne and Morion's split. Airyn also meets Rionne, and seems quite taken with him...

To be continued...

Posting Permission - Posting rules follow common courtesy - post In Character only, with something relevant to the plot or a gift or something. Don't just post that my diary is teh kewliez or something. x_x Also, if dropping off a gift, you are permitted one post in which to do so. If a plot appears to be in progress, please PM your gift. ^.^

All Fa'e Guardians (and Anya! of course) have blanket permission to post here. And if I invite you to RP, you can post here, obviously. Other than that, please ask first via PM.

Continuity Note - Fa'e Sosiqui is one of many, each occupying a different divergent Gaian timeline. The Sosiqui that lives here is the Guardian of Riven only. January 31st, 2004 - Discoveries and Moving In

Sosiqui
"Phew..." Sosiqui sighs as she finally finishes carrying in the last basket of yarn. The small house is empty of everything but her trunks and baskets, and the large pieces that will make up the framework of her loom. Although the house might seem tiny to some, it's FAR bigger than the little apartment she had while living inside the walls of Barton Town... even though it's further away from the convinient shops and other places, that's even better. For now.

She sighs and sits down on one of the trunks, peering out the window. The trees outside offer shade and comfort, and she can see the eaves of a few other houses nearby. The homes of the other Guardians...

Her thoughts drift off with the wind that's rustling the tree leaves. It was only a few days ago that she discovered the Guardians, after following a ruffian out from Barton only to hold them at bay here. There she had met the Guardians... and the beings they guarded.

From that moment, something had stirred in her heart, and she'd spoken to Anya!, the woman who had organized the Guardians. The discussion had been polite, but short.

As far as Sosiqui could tell, Guardians were called by the beings they guarded, or something like that. And she had no such call...

Or rather, she hadn't, until she'd found her friend Yuumei living among the Guardians and laid eyes upon the one she guarded, the being called Rei. The depths of her eyes, and the unseen aura of her power had stirred something astonishing....

That feeling was so hard to explain, even now. Sosiqui stood up and walked over to the open door, leaning against the doorframe. It had begun when she'd met Rei, of that she was sure... and only gotten stronger with each child she'd met. Taka. Sire. Purr-Purr. All of them added to the spark deep inside, until...

Until that night, when she'd returned to Barton Town and fallen asleep. That spark had seemed to uncoil in her dreams, lashing its way through her every sleeping moment, every happy dream, every screaming nightmare, until... until it caught, for lack of a better word. Caught on something and drew tight, bringing her awake, sweating and panting.

When she'd returned and told Anya! about it, seeing guidance, the meeting had been more than she'd expected... and so here she was, moving into this new tiny house with the implements of her craft. Weaving, attaching thread to thread and making something whole from the scraps. And now there was a thread of her very life attached to... what?

The very act of not knowing was at once wonderous and frightening. Shaking her head, Sosiqui concentrated for a moment on that thread of herself. It throbbed and twanged inside her, as if being played by a hand not her own. It grew tighter every day, until... again, until what? Not knowing, not knowing...

"Just don't think about it," she murmured aloud, and walked outside, looking around to see if any of the other Guardians were about this time of day.

February 1st, 2001 - Star-Watching with Yuumei Tenshi

Yuumei Tenshi
I hope that you find Riven soon!!!!

Sosiqui
Me too... *looks up at the night sky* I can feel it, something in me has become connected to something... something out there, and brought these dreams... I wish I knew when they would become real. That way I know I'm not going crazy.

Yuumei Tenshi
I'm sure that you're not imagining him, Sosiqui. Perhaps.. Perhaps it will come to you soon... You never know... After all, Rei... called me from the void... through my dreams. *she looks at her feet for a moment, then at the sky*

Sosiqui
I sure hope not... I thought I was going mad, until I came back and faced the reality of the Guardians and of the Fa'e... I think it might have been Shina that really convinced me, her appearance. Her eyes may seem sightless but I could feel them look deep, deep into the dark heart of me.... touching the thread I'd hidden from everyone in fear it was madness...

And there's your Rei, too. The first time I saw her, she reminded me of a quote from Nietzche... look into the void and the void looks back into you.

*points up* Oh! A shooting star... Hoshi would be pleased, I think. *quiet smile*

Yuumei Tenshi
Wow! *looks at the star* Something tells me that Hoshi has changed. n_n *coughANYAIFYOU'REHERE,KAEKIAWANTEDYOUTOCHANGE
HOSHIINTOATODDLERNOWSOSHECANOOHANDAHHATHIMLATER!!!!cough*

Make sure make a wish now. Perhaps you can wish for him to come to you?

Sosiqui
((( xd *dies giggling at the cough*)))

*raises one eyebrow and pats you on the back* Wow, are you okay? That was some cough... (((*snirk*)))

And yes! *closes her eyes and concentrates on the star's path, and feels the thread within her* Star light, star bright, soaring star I see tonight, may the path that you make bright bring this wish into my sight....

*deep breath* I wish for reality, for answers, for hope. I wish for... Riven.

*opens eyes, reaching out one hand to steady herself on a tree trunk*

Yuumei Tenshi

*cough* Yeah, I'm fine. I guess I got something in my throat.. *coughamessagecough* (( xd ))

I do hope that your star grants your wishes, Sosiqui. And hopefully soon...

February 2nd, 2004 - Mithril's Summoning

Sosiqui
Wait, Kaekia! eek Don't go! I have to tell you about something that happened last night!

Kaekia
Kaekia blinks, halfway out the door with Hoshi holding her hand and walking beside her. "I might have to disappear quickly later if I stay, but if you must, I'll stay!" she says, her eyes twinkling as she walks back into the HQ.

Sosiqui
It's just something quick that happened last night, I thought I'd mention it... it might be important for Hoshi. *nods, and smiles down at Hoshi*

Yuu-chan and I were outside watching the stars and talking about our children... well, her Rei, and wherever Riven is. *looks out the window again and bites her lip, then looks back* Suddenly we saw a star fall, and Yuu-chan said that it might have meant Hoshi was coming into more of his power.... and she went home.

Anyway, *takes a deep breath and bites her lip again, worried this all sounds stupid and rushed* after the star fell I wandered around the edge of the woods, hoping maybe the starfall was a sign that Riven might have come... while I wandered, I saw lights in the trees. I almost thought someone had been decorating until I got closer! *wry laugh* They were tiny dancing lights, like... well, the first that came to my mind was a broken star.

As I kept walking, I saw more and more of them, until I found a place in the ground where hundreds of teh specks lingered, and there I met... well, I met this! o_o

*watches as Mithril comes in - and, of his own will, bows low to Hoshi ignoring the humans present*

Yes... him. In the stardust... and there were pawprints leading out, shining ones dripping with the broken star, almost towards your home! Mithril seems to ignore me most of the time, although he hangs around... have you seen his like? *finishes, running out of breath*

Kaekia
Hoshi listened silently, his long golden cape not moving an inch as his ears picked up all that Sosiqui was saying. As Mithril came forward, Hoshi's eyes grew wide, and he bowed back to the majestic verlashi, though guessing from Mithril's solumness, he didn't need to.

Hoshi moved a few steps closer to Mithril, running his hand gently over the verlashi's snow white coat. "Starfall?" he asked Mithril quietly, though Kaekia, looking on, had no clue what he meant.

Sosiqui
Mithril raises his head and just looks at Hoshi, unmoving except for the very tip of his tail. After a few minutes, Hoshi and Kaekia move on to speak with Eirnae, and Mithril lies down in place. Once again, he ignores everything but the Fa'e children. It's almost like the humans don't exist... still, he keeps his eyes on Hoshi until the starchild leaves, then walks into a shadowy corner of the room and does not return.

Night of February 2nd-3rd, 2004 - Dreams of Chaos

Sosiqui
I managed to get everything cleared away and stowed today. Moving in is a big job, but compared to my old home in Barton Town, this little house is luxuriously large. My things are put in their proper places, and slowly this place is becoming home to me.

My loom stands in the center of the front room as I prepare for bed, its form cast in shadow from the candles I prefer for bedtime light. I have not had time to string it yet. My beautiful loom... heirloom of seven generations, so my mother told me when she gave it to me. We have been weavers for so long, and the loom knows the stroke of our fingers... the strings, heirlooms as well. The story runs that these threads, which have never been broken or lost in the history of our family, were woven by faeries of the hair of unicorns. Whether that is true or not, I don't know. All I know is that they are undeniably magical... but that shall be seen later. I am tired.

Yawning, I blow out the candle and snuggle into my bed. My tiny dragon friend, Oravim, snuggles into his customary place on my pillow. The moonlight falls through the window, shining a little through the curtains.

It is silent.

I sleep.

I dream...

Darkness.

No, not darkness. This is Darkness. True, undeniable, far more than the absence of light. This is the absence of... everything. Light. Hope. Order. Sanity...

It's alive, or controlled by something so that it moves, writhing and twitching along, casting out tendrils that feel along every curve of...

Of what?

I can see it now. There is a great wall of pearly gray, swirled with white and pale pale shades of other colors that move like clouds inside the wall. It stretches through the Darkness from eternity to eternity, and the Darkness cannot grasp onto it.

It is so. Has been always so. There is a rightness about it that is undeniable.

Then, the walll bulges out, slightly, and the tune changes. Dissonance.

The Darkness curls out and grasps the bulge, flowing over it in a movement that is somehow disgusting beyond tolerance. I feel like gagging, like scratching my way out of my own skin, watching it grasp the wall's surface... and tear...

The bulges come more quickly now. Time itself is speeded in my eyes...

The Darkness pours through the gaping hole it has made, the Song is broken! Every harp string snapped, every breath of the flute strangled away... the Darkness will win now...

It flows! It moves! It conquers!

... no, no, it does not yet conquer! There is... hope?

Hope? Is that the name of the figure I see before me? It is dim and blurred to my sight, but there is a power in it undeniable, a mastery and confidence that stands firm in the face of the Darkness' storm.

Light. Darkness. They swirl in a battle that flashes past in seconds and yet endures for eternities....

The light! It flares, it bursts outward...

it conquers... the Darkness drives back, the Wall heals! the Song! Oh, I can hear the Song... the flutes begin to breathe, the harp strings twist together again...

But what of the price? The darkness twists in movements so foul around the shining figure that I must retch in horror. The pain...

It hurts. I feel it too...

beyond enduring...

chaos inside...

no...

NO...

NO!!

"RIVEN!!" I wake up, screaming the name into the night with a raw throat, flailing at the blankets as if they are manifestations of that dreamed Darkness. Next to me, Oravim takes flight with a squeal, beating his wings madly as he circles the bed, trying to croon comfort.

Seeing him and his worry, I try and calm down, glance towards the window...

... and see Mithril, the beautiful creature from the staregg, shining in the moonlight. Just for a moment.

And then, he is gone.

Tonight will be a long night.

February 3rd, 2004 - What Is Given, What Is Taken

Yuumei Tenshi
Rei runs into the HQ, and looks around... and spots Sosiqui.

"Sosiqui-dono!" she runs to her and gives her a hug. "Arigato! I found your gift on the doorstep! I love it!"

"Hi Rei. What did Sosiqui give you?"

Rei shows her mom the pen. "She gave me this rose pen!"

"Wow, that's so nice! Thank you Sosiqui!" ^_^

Sosiqui
*accepts the hug and hugs back, careful not to rumple Rei's wings* "I'm glad you like it, Rei! And you're more than welcome." *smiles*

Eirnae Natenhar
Shina is distracted from the feel of Daedrim sniffing at her hand by the sound of her sister's voice. "Wei?" she asks, turning her head to search for the lights of Rei's spirit. "Where Wei?"

Eirnae looks over at the crowd that has gathered since she had arrived and smiles, glad to see so many people in the Fa'e HQ.

Sosiqui
As Shina speaka, something in the shadows begins to stir... and Mithril steps out, as if he'd come through a door instead of, impossibly, thin air. He pads over to Shina, eyes locked on her, once again ignoring every human in the room, including Eirnae. It's almost as though they don't exist for him.

When he reaches Shina, he begs up on his hind legs, raising his forepaws up delicately for balance as he rises up to take a look at the child.

Eirnae Natenhar
Daedrim 'yips' when this odd being gets so close, skittering to the side a foot or so and eyeing Mithril with flattened ears and a puffed up tail. Shina was his, the boy had said. HIS. He dares a couple of steps towards Mithril, growling softly. "No Daedrim," Shina murmurs to her newest friend, holding a tiny hand up commandingly despite the softness of her silvery voice. "You search," she says to Mithril, her hand going towards the gathering of starlight she sees before her that is Mithril's soul, turning so it is palm up for him to sniff. Daedrim whines and comes closer, sitting down a safe distance from Mithril and eyeing him with unease.

Sosiqui
Mithril glances down at Daedrim, still perfectly balanced on his hind legs, and growls very, very quietly at him. Then he turns up his head again to Shina's hand. He sniffs delicately, but his nose never actualy touches her tiny palm, and his ears flick back and forth as she speaks to him. Then, satisfied, he lowers himself to the ground again and watches Shina carefully. For the first time, his eyes move to the face of her Guardian.

He studies Eirnae for a long while, too, then lowers himself into a bow.

Eirnae Natenhar
Eirnae looks down at this beautiful, but unusual being and inclines her head in a respectful bow back. Alimus 'mrrr's from his spot laying next to his Lady and cub, pondering like Eirnae as to what this creature is and why it is so intriqued by Shina. Never the less they both mentally agree that this one did seem to be 'searching' for someone or something, and its mere presence and mannerisms commanded respect. Shina smiles at Mithril and coos as her hand goes back to snuggle her stuffed bunny to her body.

Daedrim lays down and lets out a low sigh, his tail tucking around him. He was still a bit jealous of Mithril being the object of Shina's attention for the moment, but remains silent.

Sosiqui
Sosiqui watches Mithril and feels a pang, inside... close to the 'thread' that she's felt, what she believes is the connection forged between herself and the child to come. "Why has the familiar preceded the child?" she murmurs quietly, worrying a little. For there is no doubt in her mind that Mithril is looking for the same being that's somehow chained to her own soul.

The kirin Verlashi rises to his feet again as Shina coos, then turns smartly without a second glance at Eirnae. Sosiqui bends down to see him as he walks towards her, but he slips past without even acknowledging her presence. Stung, she stands up again. On her shoulders, her tiny dragon Oravim hisses and then turns around, squawking angry imprecations at Mithril, almost as if he's yelling at the Verlashi! Sosiqui smothers a laugh as Mithril gives the furious little dragon just one glance, making Oravim squeal and rage even more.

Kaekia
Hoshi and Kaekia fade into the room, and immediatly, Hoshi runs up to Sosiqui and gives her a huge hug. "Thank you for my pen, Sosiqui!" he says shyly, grinning up at the human. Once he has thnaked Sosiqui for the gift, though, he runs over to Eirnae, Mithril and Daedrim. He carefully scratches Daedrim behind the ears lovingly, and then strokes Mithril's coat, and bows quickly to him.

Once done greeting the two creatures, he runs to Shina's side and smiles, taking her hand again.

Sosiqui
Sosiqui smiles at the starchild. "You're welcome, Hoshi," she says, barely managing to return the hug as he hurries off, eager as always to go everywhere at once.

She watches carefully as Hoshi approaches Mithril - Oravim still railing at the Verlashi from his perch on her shoulder. The white one twitches and then shudders all over as Hoshi touches him, but he stands up and bows back to the child nonetheless. The golden touches on his horns seem brighter around Hoshi than around any of the other Fa'e children so far, she realizes. Perhaps her idea about Hoshi's growing summoning the staregg was correct?

She turns away towards Kaekia. Oravim squeals and screeches, and finally she reaches up and grabs his tiny muzzle between two fingers and holds it closed. "Quiet," she says firmly. The blue dragon rolls his eyes and makes a muffled "meep!" sound, then shakes himself vigorously as she releases him. "He's a handful," she says wryly to Kaekia. "He doesn't like Mithril much, mostly because the dratted creature all but ignores me."

Kaekia
Hoshi let go of Mithril's fur quickly when he noticed the majestic verlashi quiver. "Did I hurt you?" he asks, curious, though he is careful not to touch the verlashi anymore, but he does notice the glowing of Mithril's golden horns.

Kaekia laughs at the tiny blue dragon, stroking his scales with a gentle finger. "He's quite adorable, though. I've seen others with those dragons, and I've wanted one for the longest time... I'm still trying to see if I can get one." she says with a quick grin. "But Mithril seems to ignore all of us humans.. except for Eirnae." she said, cocking an eyebrow and shrugging.

Sosiqui
The verlashi lowers his head and then shakes it once, but also stands up and backs a little bit away from Hoshi. Fortunately, Hoshi is distracted and runs off to Eirnae and Shina. Mithril shakes himself, then withdraws to a corner of the room and sits there in the shadows once more, his eyes flickering over the room as he watches the goings-on.

Meanwhile, Oravim churrups and rubs his head along Kaekia's hand. "He likes that," Sosiqui grins. "Especially if you scritch him under his chin." The dragon stretches his neck up higher, exposing the favorite scritching spot to Kaekia's view. "See?" Sosiqui laughs. "He may be small, but he's not stupid... he knows where the scritches are and how to beg for them!"

Kaekia
"But Mithril seems to ignore all of us humans.. except for Eirnae." she said, cocking an eyebrow and shrugging.

"He does... it's rather strange," Sosiqui says, looking over at the verlashi in the corner. "He paid attention to me for maybe a full minute when I met him at first, but then he began acting like I wasn't there. When he does that really obviously, Oravim gets mad... but Mithril doesn't seem to pay any attention to Loudmouth here either," she adds, nudging the dragon with one finger. "I'm not so sure he was acknowledging Eirnae, either," she says, thoughtfully. "I think right now she's something like... oh, a glorified chair in his eyes. Something to hold the precious baby, heh."

Eirnae Natenhar
Eirnae does pipe up at that comment, raising her voice as necessary to make herself able to be heard, "Perhaps because I am not human, and am a moon elf?" The fact that Eirnae wasn't all that tall bothered her quite a bit, amongst all of these humans she felt dwarfed. If her being elven had made Mithril notice her, well so be it!

Sosiqui
Sosiqui raises one eyebrow in thought. "You know, that might be it... good point," she says in a thoughtful tone. "Hmmm." Her glance goes over to the kirin verlashi in the corner again, wondering.

Yuumei Tenshi
Rei walked to a window, away from all the people inside. After opening it, she sat down, as she stared outside as Dranzer took flight outside. One of the mystical phoenix's feathers landed in her lap. Dratheen jumped out to the tree just outside, still longing to fly once more, but couldn't in her state. Rei just seemed to blankly stare into the cloudy sky....

Yuumei notices her daughter staring out a window after a few moments passing by. "Rei?" After seeing her stare mindlessly into a mirror this morning, she has been really worried about Rei. She would have thought that Rei would have wanted to go see and play with her little sister... but there she was sitting by the windowsill... staring outside. "Rei, is something wrong?" She walked over to her fa'e daughter. ".... Rei?"

Unfortunately, Rei couldn't hear Yuumei for that moment... she was too distracted by something deep inside of her....

"Rei?" Yuumei stepped closer to her daughter, her hand clenched to her chest. She looked as if her heart had stopped. All she could do was watch her daughter, staring blankly as the wind sofly blew through her hair. She knew that something was wrong.

Inside herself, Rei was dwelling upon her past... trying to find something... something... 'I... I'm not a doll... I want to know... Why am I here? ... Why is everyone here... Were we all destined to be here?' The fa'e child thought to herself as images passed through her mind... soon, she became dillusional... she found herself in a familar world... With a familar face.... 'Where are you now?... You promised me... You promised....'

Unknowingly, Rei seemed to look like she was disappearing. Yuumei gasped. "Rei!!!!" She rushed to her, and tried to shake her daughter from her thoughts. "Rei! It's me!!! Mom!"

She twists her head to look at her... "M-mom?-- Suddenly Rei crumbled, as the jewel uptop her head started to shine.

"REI!"

Rei screamed in pain as she was encased in a shield.... What was happening?! Her eyes were suddenly glowing red, and she didn't look like she was in pain no longer.. she grinned mischievously... her canines... they were sharp and gleaming... Something was terribly wrong.

Eirnae Natenhar
Eirnae's head snaps up to look across the room at the scene between Rei and her Guardian. 'What in the name of Eilistraee is going on over there?' She carefully picks up Daedrim and sets him on the floor, getting to her knees to put Shina carefully up against Alimus's warm fur before rising to her feet completely and walking towards Yuumei, "What is wrong, Lady Yuumei?" she inquires, the hair on the back of her neck standing on end. Out of instinct her left hand reaches up and unsnaps the holder for Heart Seeker in its sheath.

Shina's eyes get huge as she witnesses her sister's spirit suddenly take a shift for the worse, the silver now barely there as the black and red take over. She takes in a long gulp of air, even as her mother sets her down by Alimus, and then lets loose with a piercing, "Siiiiiiiisteeeeeer!" the moment after Eirnae asks her question of Yuumei.

Yuumei Tenshi
Yuumei, unable to hold her daughter in her arms, wanting to know what is happening, falls on the floor, in tears. "I..." She stammers, "I... I don't know.... Those... those eyes... Something's wrong with her.... Rei... There's something wrong with her..."

Rei stood up, calmly, but in a trance. Her eyes glowed red... and... for some reason... her cheek was bleeding... the marking next her her right eye... with the hook and a spot that resembled a blood red sun... it was bleeding... Rei touched it, and looked at her hand, stained in the red liquid... "He made me do this...." she whispered.... "Why.... Why did he do this?" In her mind, she was living in the past once more. She looked at Yuumei... To her, she was lying down on pavement, lifeless. Rei weeped... "How could he?"

"Rei! What's wrong with you?" Yuumei tried to reach out to her daughter, but with no avail. Suddenly it struck her... Her dream returned for just a second... 'I promise'.... "How could he?"

Rei was reliving the past inside. There had to be a way to get her out of the illusion.

Eirnae Natenhar
Eirnae kneels down and slides her right arm under Yuumei's, "Now, I'm going to get back up and you are coming with me. Got it?" she half-orders, all business now. She gets ready to heft Yuumei up onto her feet and then does so, showing that she's a lot stronger than she looks as she supports as much weight as Yuumei needs her to so that she can get back up and standing, leaning on Eirnae if she must.

"Rei!" Shina cries from her spot against Alimus, who became wide awake at Shina's loud cry for her sister. "Take to Rei!" she demands of the shadow jaquar, who gets up on all fours and shifts into his elven form, catching Shina before she falls backwards, and lifting her up into his arms before starting to walk towards Eirnae and Yuumei.

Sosiqui
Sosiqui stood still in shock as Rei erupted into a panic, and the rest of the room went with her. Oravim shrieked and lauched himself from her shoulder, drawing blood with his claws in his haste, and flew out the open window. She winced and reached to touch the wound, then saw the kirin in the corner. Mithril was watching the goings-on with what seemed like... apathy?

She ran over to the corner and knelt in front of the creature. "You, you're a sacred beast of some kind, aren't you? Connected to them?" She waved one arm in the direction of the huddle of Fa'e and humans around Rei and Yuumei.

Mithril seemed to stare right through her. Frustrated, Sosiqui kept going. "Well, if you're a guardian, there's something for you to guard! Go on, do something, mystical guardian familiar beast or whatever the hell you are!" she shouted at him, stabbing one shaking finger at the group behind them.

The verlashi tilted his head, eyed the activity once more, then stared right at Sosiqui. Her breath caught in her throat, hoping...

Then he... he smirked and vanished.

Sosiqui blinked, then rose to her feet, face red, tears of anger beginning to fall down her cheeks. "You... you utter b*****d," she hissed at the vacant corner, then whirled to join the throng around Rei.

Yuumei Tenshi
Yuumei coughs a bit, and leans on Eirnae. "Al-alright...." After a few moments however, a strange wave of power serges through the room. Not being able to hold on, Yuumei collapes, unconscience.

"I... I can't..." Rei strains. "I... I can't control... this sufferable... pain... this power... is.. is.. too.. much!!"

Rei screams, as sudden cuts appear all over her body. Blood spurts everywhere.... Dranzer soars back, worried after hearing the Fallen Angel cry out. There she was... cradled up, lying on the floor. Then, out of no where... Dratheen appears... not as a lemur, but as the magnificent dragon she once was, wanting to watch the sister whom she now guarded in this new life.

Sosiqui
Sosiqui stumbles backwards, thrown away from the group by the sheer force of magic. As Dratheen assumes her true form, she finally manages to get a glimpse of Rei... and the dream from the night before flashes into her mind again. The Darkness... the writhing, disgusting darkness... it seems to be dancing for joy in Rei's spilling blood.

Suddenly nauseated, she staggers to the door just in time to empty her stomach into the bushes.

Eirnae Natenhar
"REI!" Shina cries, her voice strangled as Rei's pain courses through her own flesh. Her nerves on fire Shina reaches out to the flickering soul now prone..not far..not far..."REI!" She struggles in Alimus's arms, kicking at her blanket till it slides away from her small body and hangs from Alimus's grey hands like a forgotten ghost. Alimus gets still closer, but not fast enough for Shina. She squirms even more and gets out of Alimus's grip, falling down towards the slowly returning silver lights of her sister's spirit. Her wings, her broken tattered wings, stretch out in an instinctual attempt to glide. The pain this causes flashes across Shina's face, the tears already welling up in her white eyes now falling down her cheeks as those lights rush up to greet her. 'My sister, do not despair...I am here...I am forever with you...'

Eirnae feels as if she's in a nightmare, for now as she turns she sees her baby Shina falling from Alimus's arms as if in slow motion, heading for Rei's winged back. She starts to reach with both arms to catch her fa'e, but it is possible that she reacted too late to do so...

AngelKrista
*looks to see Yuumei fall to the ground and see Rei start bleeding she hand Aylana to Ayleana then runs over and looks over Rei* Rei.....oh god....*picks Rei up blood covering her clothes*

Yuumei Tenshi
Rei slowly stands up... holding in the biggest wounds closed as much as possible. In her eyes, you can tell she couldn't hear anyone living in the reality of the present. A sense of evil surrounded her, and growled. "I swear.... His death with NOT LIVE IN VAIN!" She soon collected the shadows in the room upon her anger... inside her mind... she saw her beloved, dead. Her face marking bled even more... perhaps... he carved it before he died? Is that why her markings changed? Her power was so emense, it was like everything stopped. However, Dranzer cried out, and Dratheen wrapped the unconscience fa'e gently... Rei screamed again... until suddenly, the star on her necklace began to glimmer so bright.... nothing could be seen....

nothing.

As the star faded out... everyone but the Guardian Beasts were asleep.

Rei was breathing hard, and slowly got up... She held her head, feeling dizzy... "Ugh...." ....

Surprisingly though... There were no cuts on Rei... and the smell and stains of new blood was gone.

Dranzer and Dratheen rushed to the fa'e child's side, hoping to make sure she was alright. Rei's clothes were quite torn, unfortunately, and she seemed so tired...

"Dranzer... What happened?" Her eyes seemed to be so blank, until she looked around and gasped. She buried her face in the phoenix's soft wing. "I did this didn't I... What have have I done?!" At that moment, Dratheen returned to her lemur state... and time seemed to have continued on again.

Yuumei stirred, as she heard her daughter softly cry. "...Rei?" Her strength seemed to return at the sight of Rei, for she rushed off to her. "REI!"

"MOM!" The two embraced as Rei weeped. "Mom.... I'm.. I'm so sorry..."

A feeling of security rushed through Yuumei. She didn't care what happened... As long as her baby was safe. "You don't have to be sorry, Rei... You don't have to...."

'Please Rei... don't hurt yourself anymore with your pain... Share it with me... Tell me your past.. but please, don't do anything to hurt yourself again...'

Sosiqui
Outside, Sosiqui blinked woozily and lifted her head from the... grass? "How'd I get out here?" she muttered, sitting up and holding one hand to the back of her head. "Owww... my stomach hurts too..."

Oravim poked his head out of a nearby tree and, seeing her awake, zinged out of the branches to smack into her arms. "Oof! Oravim, hey, it's okay," she said, wincing as the dragon scrambled around squealing anxiously. "Calm down."

What just happened? The memories were already shadowed and fading, and her head was beginning to hurt too. Shaking her head in an attempt to clear it, she came back inside and leaned against the wall next to the doorway, stroking Oravim gently.

Eirnae Natenhar
Eirnae rolls her eyes up to the ceiling, waiting for everyone to wake up. "Bloody triple damned sleeping spells.." she mutters, looking over at the tender scene between mother and daughter and allowing herself a small smile. Shina starts to stir in Eirnae's lap and her attention is immediately diverted to her child. "Are you alright, little one?" she inquires of Shina, her hands now checking to be sure her fa'e isn't more hurt than she started out as.

Alimus snorts impatiently at Eirnae's side, currently laying down with the fast asleep Daedrim between his front paws. Why had they all fallen asleep like that? It was unnerving being the only awake being besides his Eirnae.

February 4th, 2004 - Riven's Rebirth</center>

Sosiqui
*runs into the HQ* eek YOU GUYS! YOU GUYS! LOOK! LOOKLOOKLOOKLOOK!

User Image

crying Riven's here!!!

GunsmokeGirl
Wow... xd He looks wonderful! All gray, ooh... congrats, Sosqui!!

Tsu-chan
Yay!

He's cute!

kalindara
He's so cute. Will he get more colour as he grows?

Sosiqui
I don't know... he is awfully monochromatic right now, isn't he? *cradles him gently in her arms* This is the perfect day for you to come, little one... joy in sorrow...

Eirnae Natenhar
Eirnae, who had never truly left the HQ welcome room, turns and walks over to Sosiqui to gaze at the baby in her friendly acquaintance's arms. "Is this the child who has been calling you, dear lady?" she inquires, her sea green eyes warm as they study the child.

Sosiqui
"Yes, it is," Sosiqui says, smiling widely, her face showing the marks of tears... of joy. She gently tilts Riven up in her arms to see Eirnae. "Riven," she says, savoring the name anew now that the being it belongs to is here, in her arms...

Riven lies quietly in Sosiqui's arms, eyes open, taking in the world silently, only the movements of his breathing and the ocassional twitchings of his fingers giving away that he is, in fact, alive. As Sosiqui shifts him carefully upwards for the others to see, she realizes how light he is... seeming barely a third of the weight of the other Fa'e babies she's held. Are you all right, little one? Little Riven? she thinks, tilting her head so she can look at his gray eyes.

Eirnae Natenhar
"Riven.." Eirnae repeats, her right gloved hand moving to gently brush the male child's cheek. "Is he what you had expected?" she asks somewhat abruptly, her focus moving to look at Sosiqui's face to see her reaction to her question.

Sosiqui
Riven stirs slightly as Eirnae's hand touches him, and he slowly reaches one hand up towards the elf's finger.

"What I expected?" Sosiqui repeats, looking down at Riven, suddenly thoughtful. Riven peers back up at her, stopping his arm movement as if frozen, an almost curious look in his eyes. Well? Are you? she wonders, running one hand through his hair, surprisingly much of it for a baby, and surprisingly light to the touch for hair. Are you what I expected? I know you're what I dreamed of. "I... I'm not sure what I was expecting," she says, finally, looking back up at Eirnae. "You seemed to have a pretty good idea with Shina, but... I don't know, Riven doesn't seem like her. He's so calm and still... at least right now, then I've barely had him for half an hour..." Her voice trails off as she realizes she's beginning to ramble.

Riven reaches for Eirnae's finger again and this time catches it in his tiny fist, the grip of his fingers so light that it seems barely the touch of a feather.

Tsu-chan
Tsukasa smiles a bit. "I am happy, Sosiqui, that Riven has been found," she says. "I know you will make a great Guardian to him."

Sosiqui
Sosiqui smiles back. "Thank you, Tsu-chan... I hope I will be up to the task," she finishes, blushing a little, then looking down at Riven and biting her lip.

Tsu-chan
Tsukasa nods. "You are welcome, and I know you will be up to the task. If you weren't, then you would not be Riven's Guardian, no?" she asks.

kalindara
Kali steps closer to Sosiqui and the bundled F'ae. "He's so beautiful... and so calm. He has an air of maturity about him, don't you think?" She touches his hair gently and looks up, mildly shocked. "I've never felt anything so soft before!"

Sosiqui
"Air of... something, at least," Sosiqui murmurs, but she smiles as she touches Riven's hair again. It is soft, but also... almost insubstantial? Touching it feels like soft fog, if such a thing is possible...

She wonders once again at this child, so light, so strange...

Eirnae Natenhar
She's surprised at how gentle Riven's touch is, almost convinced that he's not fully material. She alters her gaze to the newest fa'e's calm grey eyes, searching for a flicker of emotion in those flat orbs. What had this baby been, and why had he been reborn? Such thoughts had been troubling her ever since Shina had arrived, though she always stuffed them to the back of her mind everyday.

"His skin is softer than most silks," she murmurs, the fingers that Riven had captured curling about his. She breaks her study of Riven's eyes to look to Sosiqui and say as reassuringly as she can, "There is no need to worry if you did not know what to expect, kind miss. He is here now...that is all that matters."

Sosiqui
"Yes, yes, he is here," Sosiqui smiles, as Riven lowers his arm. She blinks at the movement... it almost looks like his fingers passed right though Eirnae's... but that is impossible, isn't it? Her heart begins to thud a little faster. There's little that's impossible with these children, she reminds herself.

In her arms, Riven stirs a little more, and opens his mouth. He keeps it open and still for a second, as if tasting the air... then lets out a strange sound, like a flute. Sosiqui blinks at him, then grins and whistles back.

Riven blinks again, and Sosiqui feels a quick flash of joy. Then Riven's eyes light up, seeming to shift color slightly to a pale purple, and he smiles. Very softly, but he smiles.

And Sosiqui feels the tears begin again.

Yuumei Tenshi
Yuumei woke up from an afternoon sleep and ate her quick dinner. "Rei, I'm going to the HQ, want to come?" She just reached her home in Gaia, and called from the front door. Rei soon walked down slowly from the stairs. She stood in awe. "... R-Rei... WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR WING?"

Rei smirked, as she walked towards her mom, her faithful companion at her shoulder. "That's not important mom," She said, as Dranzer pecked softly at her new black angel wing. "Something tells me... A new fa'e has arrived."

As they entered the door of the HQ, they noticed as people gathered around, to congratulate Sosiqui. It seems that the star she wished upon... granted it.

Sosiqui
Sosiqui turned her head as Rei came in, and blinked at the strange... wing? That hadn't been there before, had it?

In her arms, Riven stirred, and lifted his head, his eyes trying to focus. "Oh, that's Rei, little one," Sosiqui said. "Rei?" she called, looking towards the girl. "I think Riven wants to see you... do you want to come see him?"

Yuumei Tenshi
"Hello Sosiqui. Congratulations on finding him," Yuumei said, as her daughter and her walked towards her.
Rei smiled and bowed to Sosiqui, the new Guardian. "Good evening, Sosqui-dono. I would like to to see Riven." She walked closer to peer at the bundle in her arms.

Sosiqui
"Good evening to you too, Rei," Sosiqui begins... but as Rei draws close, there is a sudden flash of light! Sosiqui steps back involuntarily, and as the temporary blindness from the flash recedes, she sees...

"Mithril?" she breathes. The white kirin Verlashi is indeed there, suddenly, positioned between her and Rei, his horns glowing, every hair on his body standing on end, and a low growl in his throat. "Mithril!" Sosiqui says, sharply. "Leave her alone, you horrible brat!"

But Riven shifts and looks at Rei... and Sosiqui is suddenly hit with a wave of fear. She staggers backwards further, until her back is against the wall of the hut, trembling without knowing why. "R-r-riven?" she gasps, through chattering teeth, trying to fight against the strange terror that grips her. "Riven? Riven!"

Mithril backs up too, until he's right in front of Sosiqui, still growling low and deep at Rei. "I- I- I- don't under-st-st-stand," Sosiqui manages, giving the others a pleading look from behind the angry verlashi, clutching her child.

Yuumei Tenshi
As the light flashes out of no where, Yuumei fumbles backward, sitting on the floor. She only seemed shocked for a moment... but that feeling soon fade away, for life with Rei was always surprising. She could only watch silently.

Rei glanced at the Verlashi, but started to laugh quietly to herself. "I'm.. guessing you know me, Mithril. When Anya! came to the HQ and passed by the window of our house... I could sense him." Rei seemed so calm, and could only stand there, her arms crossed, watching Mithril, and Riven behind him. "I've been waiting for him. Perhaps... He can answer my questions." She stared into the verlashi's eyes, deep into his heart. When she sensed the new fa'e, she somehow knew she needed to see him. She knew... that he might have the answers... to why she is here.

Nothing was going to stop her from knowing.

Sosiqui
Sosiqui took a deep breath. "I-I'm n-not sc-scared," she said firmly. "I'm not scared. I'm NOT scared!" By the third repetition, she had mastered the fear... holding Riven tightly, she stepped forward...

... and kicked Mithril squarely in the tail.

Instantly, the verlashi SQUEALED and whirled around, mouth open wide to bite, but Riven let out another flute-like cry. Mithril closed his mouth again, wrinkling his muzzle as though he'd just swallowed something foul, and bowed low to the child.

Riven's eyes flicked up to Rei, and Sosiqui felt a pulse of the fear from earlier, but she mastered it quickly this time and held Riven tightly. The child seemed to be getting heavier in her arms. "There, there, Riven my love... there's nothing to be afraid of. Don't be scared of the nasty verlashi," she added, glaring sternly down at Mithril.

The white kirin snorted and vanished. Sosiqui let out a sigh of relief, then looked down at Riven again. He WAS feeling heavier. Maybe her arms were tired?

Eirnae Natenhar
Eirnae is also startled by the flash of light..but gains an amused smirk on her face when the verlashi is kicked in the rump. Alimus hisses at the arrogant verlashi before it disappears, telling it his opinion of it growling at Rei. He then pads over to Rei to purr up at her, his coal black eyes concerned.

~ In Eirnae's cottage within the Wanderers' realm ~

'Another has come...' "Oro, Oro!" Shina cries, the ball she was about to toss for Daedrim clenched in her hand, "New fa'e! We go?"

Sosiqui
"I'm so sorry, Rei," Sosiqui apologized, still leaning against the wall, her eyes tired. "That blasted creature needs to learn some manners. Maybe he'll pay attention to me now," she added. "And... I saw Riven first when Anya! brought him to me," she finished, raising one eyebrow, wondering what the meaning behind that question was. Weren't all the Fa'e brought the same way?

In her arms, Riven looked at Rei, his eyes distant and quiet, his face slipping from the earlier slight smile back into a relaxed, expressionless state. She shifted his form again, wondering why on earth her arms were getting so tired so fast. "Sorry," she repeated as she moved her child around. "I think I need practice at carrying things! I thought my arms will well-strenghtened from the loom, but... he keeps feeling heavier and heavier."

Yuumei Tenshi
Rei smiled a bit at Sosiqui's answer. But something told her that perhaps... if she pushed it, the new Guardian will realize something about her baby. She noticed something about Riven. She glanced at him, and she seemed to have noticed it. "... Are you sure you haven't seen him before today, Sosiqui?"

Yuumei stared suspiciously at her daughter. 'What the heck are you up to Rei? ... Do you know Riven from before?' She stood up, and leaned against the wall by the window. She looked out at the night-sky, as the moonbeams seem to lightly hit the new fa'e.

Sosiqui
Sosiqui looked confused, her eyes flickering to Rei's face, suddenly aware of the sharpness of the child's canines. "I told you, he just came today," she said, stepping away from the wall and towards the window.

As the moonlight flowed more fully over the Fa'e, the purple color began to swirl back into Riven's gray eyes. With a start, Sosiqui realized that the child abruptly felt lighter. "Riven?" she asked, hesitantly, tilting the babe upwards so that she could look at him better.

Riven reached one hand out towards the moon and warbled, the sound seeming like the wind through a forest of crystal. "Riven!" Sosiqui gasped. "Oh, that's so beautiful... you like the moon? That's the moon, my darling one..."

Riven closed his eyes and smiled that small, still smile again. Sosiqui smiled back and rocked him gently in the moonlight, then turned her eyes back towards Rei. "I don't..."

Something flickered in the back of her mind, a vision of gray, light, Darkness... "... the dr- no, you couldn't know about that, you couldn't," Sosiqui breathed, forcing herself to remain calm for Riven's sake. The baby still smiled.

Eirnae Natenhar
Cyoro sighs as she steps onto the carpet of the 'welcome room' of the Fa'e HQ, holding both Shina and Daedrim in her arms. "Eirnae," she calls out to the black clad moon elf, "Your Shina again insisted that she come here...mind telling me what's going on?"

Shina's head turns to be facing the direction that her sister and the newly arrived Riven are in, though both of her arms remain around her Ama and Py. She doesn't make any sound, simply seems to stare at the space between Rei and Riven with her blank eyes. 'Mithril..the guardian...' In Shina's mind the near blinding soul of the verlashi is evident, though the others about its 'phased' form would not be able to see it. She is surprised to notice that her sister's spirit is more silver now than before, a warm smile upturning her tiny lips as Shina coos, "Rei?"

Eirnae looks over when she hears Cyoro's voice, seeing Shina with Daedrim sitting on the bundled baby's lap. "Cyoro...again?" she asks her adopted sister in elven.

Yuumei Tenshi
Rei's eyes sparkled, as a grin formed on her face. She was glad that Riven perhaps hinted his Guardian on what she was trying to say. "Sorry for pushing so hard on this, Sosiqui-dono," The Fallen Angel apologized, "But if you think about it... You have seen him before."

Yuumei then heard a soft coo, and looked at the door. There was Shina, with Cyoro.

Sosiqui
"I-it's all right," Sosiqui managed. "I'm just a little tired, that's all... I'm sure we can talk about it later. I'll think about what you've said, Rei," she assured the Fa'e child, smiling at her, then turning as Cyoro and Shina entered. "Ah! And another one of your... friends, I hope, my darling?" she murmured to Riven.

Riven's eyes opened again as they left the beam of moonlight, and he turned his head slightly as they approached Shina. Looking at her, he warbled again, this time lower-pitched than he had for the moon.

Yuumei Tenshi
"I hope you do, Sosiqui-san." She bowed to her. Suddenly, she noticed how everyone was looking towards the door, and looked behind her... and smiled. Her sister was here.

Eirnae Natenhar
Cyoro stays put even though in the back of her mind she would like nothing better than to take off for home. Even though the HQ is not nearly as crowded as it could get, this many people in the same room as her still proves to make her nervous. She holds up Shina a bit as it is obviously she that Sosiqui wants the grey fleshed baby in her arms to see.

Shina releases her right hand's grip on her Ama and stretches out her arm towards Riven, her own young silvery voice answering his with a long note of her own. Of course hers doesn't sound much like a whistle or the sound of a flute, she simply sings the drawn out note.

Eirnae has never heard her little one sing before and stops in her tracks, as she had been on her way to Cyoro's side. She rests her arms at her sides and stands but a few feet from the gathering, wondering why Shina had answered in such a fashion.

Sosiqui
Riven tilted his head to one side, the purple color in his eyes becoming brighter, and trilled a bright note a few notes above Shina's sound, then burbled and clapped his hands! Sosiqui laughed, her own eyes dancing, and held Riven up. "Oh, you're waking up now, huh sweetling? You sing so beautifully. You too, Shina," she adds, bringing Riven over a little closer to the broken-winged one.

Eirnae Natenhar
Shina giggles, as always her laughter sounding like the ringing of tiny silver bells. She looks down near Sosiqui's feet, watching the ever present Mithril for a moment. She decides to leave off reveiling the guardian's position more and waves her hand in the direction of the grey, near smoke like spirit before her. 'Spirit Keeper..I remember you.' She sings another note, adding two more in an improvised melody. Or was it improvised?

Eirnae takes those last few steps to stand by Cyoro, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. She knew that her adopted sister hated being out of the realm, and she says quietly to ehr in elven, "Pass her to me, sister, and then you may make your exit if you wish."

Yuumei Tenshi
Yuumei could only listen to th fa'es sing together, which was truly sweet to her ears. She looked at Rei, whom was sitting down now, watching her sister from afar. For a moment, the two conversed through thought.

'Rei, why don't you go over to your sister?'

'I'm afraid I'll hurt her mom.'

...'Why would you be afraid of hurting her?'

'I've been pushing myself to learn about my past... that I'm pushing her away. I don't want to do that mom.... She did everything she could to be with me, but... I don't want to push her away.'

'I.. I don't understand, Rei. How are you pushing her away?'

.... 'Mom, something tells me that Riven... is here because of me.'

'What? You didn't answer my first question, dear!'

'Mom... I've caused too much chaos. That's all I can tell you now.'

"...Rei..." Yuumei whispered her daughter's name. For that moment... She couldn't understand what she was thinking. And it shook her. For that moment.

Sosiqui
Riven tilts his head at Shina and warbles again, then snuggles deeper into Sosiqui's arms, letting a sleepy smile spread over his face. Sosiqui grins for what seems the thousandth time that night, and steps back into the moonlight again. She feels overwhelmingly peaceful... content... tired?

She yawns. "Oh dear... how odd, I guess the emotional tax of getting dear Riven was more than I thought it'd be," she says, wryly.

Something sits on her foot, and she looks down to see Mithril coiled around her legs, position so that he's sitting right under Riven. "Hey," she protests, but Mithril flattens his ears and gives Sosiqui a look.. .a real look, she realizes, suddenly, perhaps the first time she has the sense that the verlashi is actually acknowledging her existence in a real way. Mithril does shift so he's not sitting right on her feet, though. "Whatever," Sosiqui sighs, too tired for the moment to protest, especially when the creature seems to be behaving for once in his life.

Eirnae Natenhar
Cyoro gratefully passes her warm bundle to Eirnae, kissing first Eirnae's cheek and then Shina's before turning and leaving the HQ to head for home. Shina snuggles into her Guardian's arms, cooing softly as she does so. The scent of leather, vanilla, and mint greets the fa'e's nose. The smell of her mother. "Mommy," Shina sighs in her usual soft tone, closing her eyes and relaxing into her safe haven.

Daedrim is wondering what all the fuss is about, his ears perked as he looks up from his seat in his Shina's lap up to the face of the woman who had showed him to his ward in the first place. A near silent yip follows, and his draconic tail starts to batt against Eirnae's chest.

Sosiqui
Riven snuggles in more comfortably, and Sosiqui yawns again. "Goodness," she says, looking a little embarassed. "I guess I AM pretty tired... perhaps I should go to bed. Or we should go to bed, rather." She smiles fondly down at the gray Fa'e in her arms. "We can come back tomorrow, sweetling, okay?"

Riven lets out a sigh like a tiny flute's last note. "I guess that's it," Sosiqui says, stifling another yawn. "I'll see you all tomorrow, I'm sure... it's been quite a busy day!" She moves for the door and leaves, with Mithril trailing behind.

He's here!

Riven is here, at last! The child I've... well, according to Rei, I've seen him before.. and I felt a quick flash of the dream...

No, the nightmare. That was definetely a nightmare. But what place could my calm dear child have in that horror? Perhaps Rei is wrong. Fa'e or no, she is still a child...

Oh, my sweetling. He's all curled up in his cradle now, pulled close to my bed. The curtains are open tonight. He took such delight in the moonlight at the Fa'e Headquarters that I decided to let the rays fall onto his crib here. He's smiling in his sleep... oh, he's so darling. So precious, in so many ways.

Mithril is here too, curled up in a ball at the base of Riven's cradle. I think he's sleeping too, which would be another first. Aside from flicking out after challenging Rei, he hasn't left us since Riven appeared. And he seems as though he sees me now, really sees me. I am no longer relimiyah in his eyes, no longer one of the Unseen. Still, it will be quite a long while until I give HIM the name 'precious'.

When we returned from the HQ tonight, I put Riven right to bed, but before he fell asleep I hung this over his cradle:

I found it in the marketplace, after a long search, and I thought it so lovely... and now that Riven is here, I knew it had to be gifted to him. He smiled at it and batted the feathers with one hand before he fell asleep.

Now... it's time for me to sleep too, I think. Sleep well, my darling Riven... I love you.
The flapping of wings is heard in the night, as Dranzer, Rei's phoenix, arrives at Sosiqui's doorstep. He leaves a gift bundled up in a red cloth, with a note. It reads:

Note
To: Riven

A little gift to say welcome.

After delivering what he brought, the fire bird takes off, leaving one of his feathers behind by the bundle.

Sosiqui woke up to the sound of... flutes? Blinking, she sat up in bed, the room bright, wondering what was going on.

Then she spotted the cradle, and instantly remembered. "Oh! Good morning, Riven," she said, stretching and smiling. "And you too, Mithril," she added, grudgingly, as a snort came from below the cradle. She got out of bed and walked over to the cradle, careful not to step on the kirin verlashi's tail.

Riven was smiling, batting the feathers on his dreamcatcher around and trilling happily. Sosiqui reached down and ran her hand through his soft hair, along his cheek... the Fa'e baby burbled like a brook and caught one of her fingers in his little fist. "Your first morning, sweetling," Sosiqui said happily. "Let's see if you... hmm."

Caring for a baby. What did she know about babies? "Diaper," she muttered, and sniffed the swaddling at the appropriate spot. Nothing. "Well, we'd best check anyway," she said brightly, as Riven reached back to hit the dreamcatcher feathers once again. She laid him back in the cradle and carefully pulled the swaddling away...

And stepped back, startled. Where she'd been expecting legs, there was nothing but a gentle coil of what looked like mist. It was clearly part of Riven's body, though, as it moved gently. The baby even curled it up and poked the end, like a normal baby would play with it's toes.

"Well, then," Sosiqui said, a little shaken. "I guess there's no reason why a Fa'e must have legs... Naia doesn't, after all. No room for a diaper down there, is there? Less stink for me to clean," she said, smiling at Riven to reassure him. The warm glow of happiness still filled her as Riven played, the purple color dancing in his eyes. Mithril was even sitting up now, watching Riven play with a doting look.

Sosiqui wrapped Riven up again and gently took him from the cradle. He squealed shrilly as the dreamcatcher feathers dangled out of reach, then made one last grab - and snapped one of them off. "Oh dear," Sosiqui sighed, but smiled as Riven kept playing with the feather, the squeal turning into a happy trill. "I wonder if you eat, little one? Well, we'll go to the HQ today and meet the others again," she hummed, moving to get her own breakfast.

Sosiqui opened the door to her cottage - and Oravim zinged down out of a nearby tree, only to zing back as Mithril stepped out of the door first and growled. The tiny dragon hovered in the air, lashing his tail and chittering angrily at the verlashi.

"Oh, come on. Mithril, knock it off," Sosiqui said in exasperation, stepping out with Riven in her arms. "Oravim is part of this family, and he was here before you, so quit it before I kick your tail again. And I will, too," she added, raising her foot a little off the ground.

Mithril growled low again, but flattened his ears and sat. Oravim gave a satisfied chirrup, stuck his tongue out at the kirin verlashi, and went to hover over the baby in his lady's arms. "Mrrrr-chee?" he said, curiously, tilting his head back and forth.

Riven watched with fascinated eyes, and waved the hand with the feather in it at Oravim. He trilled at the dragonet, then giggled as Oravim tilted his head almost upside-down to look. "This is Riven, Oravim," Sosiqui said, "and he's going to live here from now on. You be nice to him, got it?"

Oravim cheeped again, then glared at Mithril and landed on Sosiqui's shoulder. She smiled, and only then looked down... to see a red cloth on the doorstep. "Ara? What's this?" She bent down awkwardly, with Oravim on her shoulder and Riven cradled in one arm, and picked it up. A shimmering feather fell from it. Riven shrieked happily at the shiny feather, then burbled as Sosiqui handed it to him. He played with the white feather and the phoenix feather as Sosiqui read the note...

At the sound of Rei's name, Mithril sat up and snorted, then pawed at the bundle until the plush toy fell out. He then sniffed it thoroughly, but let Sosiqui take it back when she reached for it. "Well, isn't that nice?" Sosiqui smiled, holding the bright toy above Riven. "A little color for my misty sweetling, hmm?"

Riven burbled again, but kept playing with the feathers. Sosiqui sighed and shook her head. "Just like a kid to be more happy with the wrappers than the gift itself!" Tucking the jester in her bag, she turned to close the door, then took a deep breath. "Come on, guys. Let's get to HQ and see what's going on there." She walked down the path, Oravim on her shoulder, Riven in her arms, and Mithril trailing.
