-SIMPLE BEGINNERS GUIDE TO ROLEPLAYING-
Let's face it, no one likes a bad roleplayer, though a good one is greatly appreciated.
This is a quick guide of mine where I'll try to teach you how to be a good roleplayer.
-PART 1-
SPELLING
To roleplay on-line, you obviously need to spell.
To roleplay good on-line, you need to be fairly good at spelling. Like it or not, but you will actually have to write real words and sentences.
This means:
Things like "u", "2", "4", "y", "r" (and so on) shall look like this:
"You", "to/too", "for", "Why", "Are".
It also means that things like "lol" can't be used. Try to write: "bursts out into a laugh" or something instead.
-PART 2-
GOD-MODDING
You might have noticed how people complain about god-modding a lot. But what is a god-modder?
It's when you have an almighty character that can take an infinite mass of damage and has very few, or no weaknesses.
A god-modder is also very strong.
The most common example would be an attack.
Let's take a look on how Peter tries to beat the crap out of Gary.
Peter is a young rookie boxer who've managed to get all the way to the finals in the "Super Duper Lightweight Boxing Championship 2005" and his opponent is Gary who've won the Championship five years in a row. Since Peter is a rookie, it's not very likely for him to beat Gary.
A god-modder would do this:
*Peter walks up to Gary, punches him in the face and wins on a KO!*
That wasn't very funny, now was it?
Instead, Peter should've done something like this:
*Peter walks up to Gary and tries to get eye-contact. He thinks he spots a weak point in Gary's defense and thrusts his fist at Gary's face.*
Now Peter should wait for Gary's response. Maybe he'll block and maybe he'll let the punch come through.
After a few punches, Gary would probably go down, but since he's a veteran boxer, he probably will try to defend his title.
Try to be realistic. You don't dodge or block everything and sometimes you loose. That's the "real" world.
PART 3
LENGTH
Finally we're down to the length of your actions.
One-liners are rarely welcome, but it's hard to know what you've done wrong if you don't know what it is.
A one-liner is exactly what it sounds like. One sentence. Try to make out at least three sentences when you do something.
Example:
*Peter punches Gary.*
That's a typical one-liner. This looks much better.
*Peter stares at Gary with a mean look and tries to intimidate him. Peter screams at Gary's face and lunges forward. In the blink of an eye Peter's hand flies at Gary's face.*
That's pretty much what I have to tell you. There's more, but there are more detailed guides out there if you feel like you want to know more.
Have a good time roleplaying!
