The misty cliffs of Enron stood high in the heart of Alzon City, where communities gathered for meetings on their town and where ceremonies of the dead where held each day.

To keep the people entertained, there were Element shows at night. This was a twelve hour walk away if you were a dwarf or troll - which is alright because they didn't find it entertaining anyway, and spent their nights hunting unicorns.

Time between the dimensions varied according to the moods of the City Folk. On a Bad Day in Alzon, time was slower then in the other dimensions. A Bad Day usually consisted of Rackneds passing through with their high pitched voices at 8:00 in the morning singing We will be We, which is a song that makes no sense except to those which it makes sense too - which were the Rackneds.

On a Good Day time would just be an hour behind the other dimensions. A Good Day in Alzon consisted of bustling streets and pouring rain, and the occasional robbery or two- just to spice things up. Alzon was a boring dimension; there was never really anything to do after the war ended some 95 years ago and since then it had become a dark and dreary place.

Until now.

Recently there had been rumors that the Dimension Tames would be held in Washgelensa.

The Dimension Tames was an event held every 8 months and it was known for having Entertainers and Folks from all over dimensions. It has wizards and witches, apprentices and shape shifters, mutants and outcasts, lonely old men, elves and leprechauns, dwarfs and eagles and sometimes - if you were lucky - Sentities (Trained swordsmen.). It had just been confirmed that they would be appearing today, which in any dimension meant Today.

The city crowds soon swabbled over to the place of entrance, and a few Folk were more anxious to see them then others. Little Did they Know; they would soon become travelers of the dimensions.

They were the ones planning on entering the competition for the gold price of the Rose Damaresk.

((Hope you like it!!))

Edit by Ace:

Cultural/Story Notes:

1. This might seem a bit confusing, especially the timeline. Good. It's meant to be. It's just for fun. Time only acts up in Alzon's Dimension.

2. Yes, now you can all be elves and faeries and flaming magical swordsmen and whatnot. But please remember not to Mary-Sue. It's Evil.

3. Basically this is the outline for the story -

The characters that we develop (unless for some reason you have a different way of entering) will be some of the competetors for the Dimension Tames. They will be the finalists. Basically, they will be sent as a group on a giant Scavenger Hunt, where they have to travel across dimensions, decipher clues, battle monsters, and basically work together, whilst still competing against each other for The Rose Damaresk.

4. Yes, I am aware that there is alot of unnesesary capitalization. Don't change it. It is there for story purposes.

Jay, you should set a limit to the amount of finalists. Anyone joining afterwards can do so during the travels.

The folds of fat hung placidly down his large body as he stood looking out at the sea of faces. All their attention was focused on him and the seven smaller figures that were lined up behind him. His eyes swerved quickly around the arena – carefully avoiding his familiar image that was present on the big screens – and settled on three separate locations, waiting for deafening noise to soften to a dull roar. His third eye stole a quick glance at the tired stances behind him before he began.

“So…” he said (though his lack of a neck morphed the sound into a gargling-grumbling mix), “at last we have reached the final round, and I must say, I am much impressed. Are not we all?”

He raised his arms to welcome the crowd’s answering cheer. Swiftly they quieted.

“This is the first year that such a large number of contestants have made it as finalists. And all so young, too! Perhaps the competition is getting to easy, hmmm?”

The last comment was addressed to the line of figures behind him. Most were breathing heavily, and sported an assortment of bruises, cuts and dust all over their bodies, among other things. He gave them an oily smile.

“Well now.” As he turned back to the audience, “Now, now, we all know I jest. This year has to have been one of the toughest, longest, most trying Tames yet!”

The crowd cheered.

“We’ve seen these people fight monsters, mazes and themselves, occasionally!”

It roared.

“And we have been left with these seven fine young participants who, after tonight, will embark on the last stretch of their journey. Through worlds known and unknown, places near and far, all in search of that lovely prize – the Rose Damaresk!”

The ground near shook with force of the enthusiastic yelling reverberating in the dome.

The Ringmaster – for that was what he was, and one of considerable fame and talent – let the smile spread across his too wide mouth as he patiently waited for the noise to subside. When that was done he lifted one flabby arm and gestured to the row of seven behind him.

“These people!” he warbled, “These people have fought hard for the right to find their prize! They have had to use their intellect, skills and determination to get them to the place where they stand now! And you are here to witness their first steps on this journey, into this, the thirty-twelthf Dimension Tames!”

“So…” he repeated, and one of his glittering eyes remained fix to the ones he now faced, “let’s meet them, shall we?”

Several fluid steps brought him close to one of the ones on the end. She looked up him through her hair. Her face, though marred with the trace of dust from her trials, unreadable.

“Here we have Cat.” The Ringmaster recited, “We have all seen her remarkable ability, that which helped her pass so swiftly through the preliminary trials. A favourite of the Geta sector” – several audience members from said sector whooped – “as I recall.”

The ringmaster moved so that he stood behind her, rather than in front, making her face clearly accessible to the cameras.

“Tell me, little Cat. What brings you out into this dog-eat-dog world, hmmm? Such a small child. How old are you?”

“Fifteen.” Came the clipped answer.

“Yes but in whose years?” he asked with a short chuckle – and an answering ripple of amusement from the crowd – before continuing on.

“And here is Ameko, the weather-witch. Well, I’m sure you can’t wait to rain on your team-mates parade. After all, you are all competing against one another.”

The girl snapped her attention back from where it had been centred on the big screen – and a startling close-up of her face – before giving the Ringmaster a shy smile.

“Yes, sir.” Was all she said. The Ringmaster smiled benignly, gave her a pat on the head, and moved on.

He stood before the next contestant a moment before speaking.

“Ah! Here we have a rare privilege. A Sentitie, or well on the way to becoming one, no?” The dark young man before him scowled spectacularly. The ringmaster pressed on. “You must have been upset when the beginning bets placed you as one of the ones to go in the preliminaries. And yet here you are. Were you discouraged initially?”

“NO.” The boy bit out, “It only made me want to win more.”

“Yes, well.” The ringmaster conceded, “You can hardly blame them. There hasn’t been a true Sentitie in the competition for decades.”

Said Sentitie opened his mouth to speak again, but the Ringmaster had moved on before he could comment.

“Another pleasant surprise!” he said, “A faerie! Why, there hasn’t been anyone from Laydenth here for simply months. A much rarer treat. Tell me dear, what brought you out to face these odds?”

The girl in front of him gave a bright smile and flapped a wing in thought. A second later, she piped;
“Why? Because it’s fun, of course!”

The ringmaster gave a jolly stage laugh, ignoring the strange expression on the girl’s face as his folds of skin jiggled in front of her, and exclaimed “Of course! Of course!”

When he was finished he sauntered onwards, with the appreciation of the crowd still echoing around him, and grinned to the calmly smiling one in front of him before turning slightly to face the cameras.

“Nicander Leodaimones. You were another doubted entrant, one who – I must say – has cost quite a few people quite a bit of money. But no hard feelings I’m sure. In fact, you’ve grown to be quite popular.” Here there was another whooping of voices. Distinctly female voices. The boy gave a pleasant grin to the camera.

“How does it feel to know that no one else in this group is quite as old as you?” The Ringmaster pressed on.

“I imagine it’s just as bad as knowing that no one else in the arena is quite as old as you.” A pause. “Is it?”

There was silence for a moment before the Ringmaster again bellowed laughter and gave the young man a hearty slap on the back – perhaps a bit too hearty – and moved on…

… to another young man. With wings.

“Angeli, I see.” He gurbled, “You call yourself Shade?”

“Yes.” The boy nodded.

“Well, you’ve shown us some quite impressive moves. And made it here, despite a certain disadvantage. Is there anything you want to say?”

There was a thick silence.

“… not really.” The Angeli conceded.

“Ah, but there must be something?” The ringmaster pressed.

“… hello to my sister.” He said at last.

“Ah! A sister. We must not forget that each contestant has a very real life outside the tournament, do they not?” And, contented, he approached the last figure.

The Ringmaster blinked his eyes – all three – down at the small girl in front of him.

“Egavas–”

“ –Vas– ” she corrected swiftly.

“ – Vas, then, you’ve proven quite the interesting little character.”

She gave him a deadpan stare. He continued.

“Definantly one with a more reckless taste for adventure, wouldn’t you agree?”

She glared.

“Ah! The strong but silent type. Don’t you just love it when the play hard to get?” This last comment was addressed to the crowd, along with a long, expansive arm gesture, who murmured back their humour.

“So…” the Ringmaster said, as he took several strides away from the ranks behind him. “Now you have met these fascinating people, are you ready to bid them off on their road? One in which they must work together to get through, yet are always in competition with the others for their prize. Are you ready for the tantalising adventures, puzzles and fights that await them?”

The crowd let out the loudest cheer yet as the Ringmaster turned to face the seven small figures, dwarfed by the enormity of the arena around them, for the last time. He pressed a button previously hidden by the folds of fat that smothered his collar and watched the area around the participants begin to glow.

“Good luck to you all!” he barked, “and remember…”

…The lights began to shimmer out…

“…We’ll be watching you.”

… They were gone.

Ameko, Egavas, Nicander, Raphael, Bainbridge, Cat and Ziadon flashed into a world of bustling life. Around them fur coats brushed past and raced through, as wind nipped at their hair and feet but before them a single slip of paper made it’s way to the front of all before unfolding to reveal it’s message

I commend you all on making this far but not everyone can win…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My sound,
Soft and sweet
I dance, I twirl
I sing never speak
Watch me close
I can make you cry
I keep things precious
Hidden deep inside…
The answers are waiting.
-Ringmaster-
Howling, whining and barking seemed to come from streets ahead. A Fox-like creature made its way towards the group, running and waving his hands in the air as if signalling them to stop. He was wearing a trench coat, with knee high boots, his floppy ears and long snout seemed to poke their way through the collar and his small glasses were unbalanced, tilting from one side to another. The pink tongue gave it away - hanging out with sharp pointy teeth easing up towards Vas and repulsive, disgusting breath pouring out of his foul mouth that curved into a snarling smile…
“Now now my dear, you’re tired, what a long journey you’ve been on, and what lovely friends you appear to have.” He looked down at the other six in utter disgust.
“I’ll bet you’d pay anything for a nice warm bed to sleep in tonight and fresh juicy meat on table and all the kibble crackers you could eat, or perhaps you prefer seeds, maybe nuts? Whatever tickles you taste buds I guarantee I can give it too you, all YOU have to do for ME is simple.” He smoothed and eased his way through each member examining them carefully, he stopped at Raphael, and his buff, muscular appearance stood out.
“You’d be GREAT In the Canary mines.” He looked to Vas. “Sell him to me” She remained expressionless, not caring much at all if the Angeli got forced into labour, except before she could answer the…fox man she became interrupted by a shriek of protest and a growl, coming from the general direction of the Fox.
Raphael had opened his eyes and the Fox looked on in horror realising that he’d need someone else to do the job. He turned to Ziadon, “You look like a fine young man, wouldn’t you just love the- ” he scrunched is face up taking notice of the coloured wings… “PHA! You’ll never do” He moved over to Nicander. He appeared pleased, “I’ll give you 3000 Bayshen, a bed in our most famous hotel and Free Dinner for 8 nights, if you give him to me.” Vas’ smirk gave him all the answers he needed.
“But what about the Riddle!! We need to solve that first!!” Bambi chimed in, her wings rapidly flapping almost as if it were blowing away every other matter at hand. Such as the fact that they were tired, hungry and cold and that every “person" happened to look like different animals, including over sized Canaries and Fish. Who stared at the group of strange travellers and looking appalled with them… all except for Vas.
Soon the soft and soothing voice of Ameko, the weather witch, worked its way through the harsh stares they felt pressing on them by announcing “We’ll solve the riddle later. But for the meantime shouldn’t we try and concentrate on not having each other sold off, okay?”
Guidelines:
Don’t worry, I’m not making us all have to plan out ten zillion things I’m just giving you a guideline on how to make your post a paragraph long because I have trouble doing but *shhh* don’t tell….
What I sometimes do is use Italics like this, these are commonly used for thoughts
You could describe the scene the way our character might view it. For example let’s pretend that your character Phear is looking out the window and it’s raining:
She was bored, staring out the small window at the pouring rain. It drizzled its way down pipes and drowned ants, soaked people and… completely bored her. Phear stared up at the cloudy sky as bits of rain streamed down the window, forming simple patterns. One, three, eight, one, three, eight…
These days always made her tired. Nothing on TV, the gamestation was wacked out and phone line had been cut because of her phone bill that was slightly too expensive. Sizzling on the window, crowding it with little droplets which looked like people, one could almost assume that the rain had formed and entire civilisation on her frame and was bent on destroying the entire universe and only the powerful force of Windy the Magical Unseen God could save them. Yup. She hated the rain. It was always boring.
See? Now that was JUST about someone looking out the window at the rain, and look how…well…it isn’t that long, but the point is its not short! What I mean to say is, try describing what’s happening be creative with it. It seems like a lot of work but it is fun.
An RP involves commitment, it might be a little boring at times, maybe the plots not moving anywhere, or maybe that this wasn’t what you had planned on happening, so its boring for you and you’re not having fun. The only reason you’re posting is because you have too. I’ll be honest, it might happen. It might happen to all of us and probably more then once, but don’t just quit on the first sign of boredom, it won’t be like that for long. Take advantage of the fact that you could not post for 6 days and you know that when you read it again instead of 7 pages popping up only three posts have come. Everything can be good if you look at it from a different perspective.
Another way of getting your posts to 4 simple lines, is action, what is your character doing and saying?
This world smelt of foul odours; like gym socks and too much deodorant mixed with BO and underwear. His nose recoiled and he practically gagged, carefully taking only a few steps at a time and thinking it would help him breath a little better. He eased his way forwards and pushed himself onwards, the gravity pressing harder with each step. He stopped, ahead was something Remarkable, it was… it was a … Well, he wasn’t too sure what it was but it had to be something, right? Quietly he crept towards it, careful not to make a sound. Then he leapt forward and grabbed it firmly between his hands, insane laughter becoming louder at each breath.
SEE?? It can be easy, let’s keep trying. It might help to plan your posts out on Microsoft but you don’t have to.
Remember post once a week, no astricts for actions, and be good with grammar.
Hope you like the new storyline.
Vas looked at the fox with his knee high scuffed boots and his long coat and his putrid breathe adding to the conniving atmosphere that lingered about him. He flitted over to her ‘companions’ and started to observe them with interest. Vas looked around bored and noticed that she liked this place...in fact she liked it a lot. She saw people or should she say animals of all shapes and sizes. She saw a pig standing on his hind legs arguing to a mouse like person that her price for bacon was much too high. “-meat on the table..” as soon as the fox mentioned meat Vas’ interest was perked and she faced him again smirking. The offer of the money (she presumed) and a comfortable night with meat to boot was an offer she couldn’t resist and the price of one of her companions seemed like a very reasonable offer. “What type of meat are we talking about” she said striding over to the fox, meeting his uninviting breath.
Ameko stayed quiet, not thinking anyone heard what she had said. Selling each other just for money, she really didn't understand the meaning of it. Keeping her face soft and calm she watched the others as if she wasn't even there. She let out a sigh as her red hair shinned, the smell of the fox was gagging but she kept her calm and breathed threw her slightly opened mouth.
Ziadon glared at the fox creature in confusion then cautiously asked "Whats going on here? Who is this creature and why is he trying to buy us to work as servants? Finally, why is he talking to Vas like shes leader of us and controls what happens?" then he quietly thought to himself and why is he so ignorant to everyone except Vas...unless... Just as he thought that he smirked to himself trying to prevent from laughing. Straightening up, he added, " I agree with ameko. We need to straighten this situation out before we can move on with the contest."
Not being able to hold back a small sigh, she was just glad someone heard her and agreed with her. Looking at the others just so she wouldn't look at the fox, she hoped that they would agree as well. Standing slightly behind everyone else, Ameko began to look around at the new dimension that they were in. Maybe the Fox was helping the Ringmaster, maybe this was a test. Shruggin slightly she kept quiet.
Cat needed only a few minutes examining the dark street and it's perfidious air to know that it was not a place she was going to enjoy. Though the area seemed familiar and the sight of animals traversing the street brought back small fragments of memories, but no matter how hard she tried Cat couldn't remember what this place was called. As she thought she let her gaze travel over tired figures that were the other finalists and her attention was pulled to a scruffy fox-like figure discussing the enslavement of the other finalists with Vas. We haven't been here five minutes she thought and already trouble has managed to find us. Before anything could get out of hand, she walked over to stand in front of the fox,
"I don't care what you're offering. I don't care what you want. Quite frankly I don't care about you at all. With all of that taken into account I would like you to know that if you aren't out of my sight in the next 5 seconds I will take no responsibility for my actions."
She had learnt long ago that the only way to survive in places like this was to take charge of your situation. She held up five fingers "5..." The fox stared at her, obviously sizing up her threat. "4..."
To Cat's relief, the creature turned and disappeared around the nearest corner.
Then she rounded on Vas, "Why didn't you do anything?"
PostPosted: Sat Sep 02, 2006 9:42 pm
Vas watched disappointedly as the fox ran off with his red bushy tail between his legs, Vas frowned and turned to look at Cat who’s eyes bored into hers and had an expectant and angry look on her face. “I don’t need to explain my actions to you or anyone else in this group” Vas said curtly barely able to contain the resentment in her voice and with that said Vas turned on her heel and stomped off now severely angry and disappointed about how things had turned out. She had already imagined the meat, soft bed and other luxuries that she nearly had.
Cat growled to herself, watching as Vas stormed off down the street disappearing into an even dirtier and darker alleyway than the street they were already in. Vas obviously didn't realised how serious their situation really was. If they were going to make it through this god-forsaken world alive and not to mention solve the riddle then their best bet was to stick together as a group not to barter each other off to buy accommodation.
She sighed and pulled her hair into a loose ponytail to avoid the mess it would surely become in the rising wind. Pushing her annoyance with Vas' attitude to the back of her mind Cat turned to face the others. They all looked tired, cold and in need of a good meal and Cat knew she must look no different.
"Okay people...where to first?"
Raphael tapped the ground rapidly with his staff. It's time's like this I hate bieng blindHe thought, as he couldn't see anything due to the amount of noxious smoke that was obscuring his vision. That's funny....Smoke dosen't usually obsure my vision.....He shrugged to himself and continued peering into the smog. He cound faintly make out the outline of the elf....Cat, that was her name. She seemed nice, like Bambi and Ameko.....Maybe he could ask them to help him see. He snuck a sideways glance at Nicander. He wished that he was like HIM. Nicander had no problems whatsoever. None. Zip. Nada. He sighed. Life was only going to get him down if he continued to look on the bad side.
The Ringmaster's riddle was still rebounding in his mind.
My sound,
Soft and sweet
I dance, I twirl
I sing never speak
Watch me close
I can make you cry
I keep things precious
Hidden deep inside…
Somehow, it made him think of the treasure box he had made his sister for her Manipuli initiation. He had spent weeks and weeks smoothing the wood with the winds. The lasting effect was a beautiful box that, when it was opened, made the most beautiful sounds he had ever heard. They painted pictures of faraway places in his mind. Places he'd never visited, but had always resolved to.
He remembered the dancing colours and beautiful sounds in his mind's eye. He remembered the beauty of the box, and the beauty of the treasue he had placed inside. His sister's Stenthicon was topped with the most magnificent ruby he could find. That was the treasure he had placed in the box.
Suddenly jolting back to reality, Raphael chided himself. It couldn't be that you idiot! That was three years ago! Stop bieng stupid and concentrate on the problem at hand.
Gathering his nerve, he turned to Cat, who had unwittingly assumed the leader role. "Cat, Could you just tell me what's around..I really can't see very well." He hoped to all the gods that he'd ever heard of that she'd answer without scorn....otherwise he'd just end up making enemies out of the people he was competing against, and when you were blind, you could use all the friends you could get.
**I tried to make it as long as possible....tell me if I waffled on too much**
** cat: W-O-W **
Ace: Yes! This is what I was hoping for. You did great. Thanks.
((I think you did a great job, nothing to worry about 4laugh !))
Ameko looked at him, she had been thinking about almost the same thing. It was a jewelry box that her grandmother had given her before she died. It had a marry go round around the box, which was Amekos most adored ride when she was young. And on the inside had a danceing ballarena, twirling and danceing as the box sang it's little song. On the inside was pink fabric that was soft, the small mirror and the box itself was nice and smooth. She had so many happy memorys with the box, her life was amazingly happy back then which had made her cry everytime she had listened and watched the danceing ballarena. Just as the riddle had said, she kept something precious deep inside the box. It wasn't an object. Just simple happy memorys. Giveing a shrug she pushed that thought away as her soft voice said to the group. "Do you think Vas'll be okay?" she already knew the answer, but couldn't help but be worried about angered girl.
Hearing Raphael's question Cat turned to re-examine the street. It annoyed her that she could not figure out where they were. She was sure she'd seen this all before.
" Well...I'm not exactly the greatest at descriptions, in fact I'm terrible, but I suppose you could say we're standing in a rather filthy, crowded street. The crowd being assorted figures all of which look like different animals...and there are various stalls spread about along the sides of the street... it's almost like a small market but with a sinister air about it. Personally I don't like the feel of this place at all.
It looks so familiar though, I could swear I have been here before but for some reason I can't remember where 'here' is."
Cat turned looked at Raphael "Sorry, I'm really not that great at descriptions am I..."
She trailed off as a strong gust of wind swept down the street chilling the small group of finalists to the bone. Cat noticed that the street seemed to be quickly emptying of people and the stalls closing.
"I think now would be a good time to start looking for shelter and food? What does everyone else think?"
Vas looked up due to her small stature and could see the various 'animals' milling about their claws, hooves, paws and some shoes clattering about the street. Vas saw all of them quickly retreat into small shabby little houses and as she saw the last of the retreating figures dart away a strong wind whipped around her, forcing her to close her eyes from all the dirt in the streets and her hair. Vas looked around and saw no sign of the other contestants around.
She looked at her surrondings and she noticed that she was in a small, damp and filthy side street. The air was permated with the smell of rotting garbage and condensation the scent making her nose crinckle. There was no one in the side street and she couldn't even hear the other participants, even with her sensitive hearing. Her face drenched of colour as she realised she was far away from the other participants and alone with the sun setting in the foreign place.
