Realized that the only person who's proud of me for going to college (or at least says it) is the groundskeeper for the college, who says that to everybody. Not my parents or anything.

Maybe they're not making a big deal out of it because they expected you to do well? If they didn't think you were capable of it, maybe that'd give them reason to act prouder... but I'm sure they're proud of you, a lot of parents don't tell their kids when they admire them...

Sorry you're having a bad day. That all blows, hope you feel better. :[

Thanks Shawna, Aivi. 3nodding

And Shawna get a webcam so you can help me practice. crying

Send me money so I can buy one ): 0

ffff... Having somebody to practice with would be nice, though. The conversation finals always make me nervous. gonk

How far you into ASL? And hell yeah having someone to practice with is a must.
This is the second week of ASL and I've already started forcing myself to make friends in that class as a need to survive. gonk

Art 1A Drawing and Prospective I've done the same, but not out of the need to survive. This time it's common interests.
Three others besides myself are all into anime and games, so we were talking about what anime we like or watch, and games some.
But along with that we also talked about some of the fads of the 90's, like poke'mon, pogs, orange julius, and other funny stuff. lol

Art 3A was Critique was today for our first project, I was the 5 person up which I'm kind of thankful, but I was nervous as hell since I'm not a public speaker. crying
Got an A though. pirate

I wish I could play the piano.

And learn it via Matrix style.

Damn you're ahead of me. crying I'm only on my 2nd week.
Yeah mine is deaf, he has a Cochlear Implant though so he can hear us mostly, but it's hard for us to understand him. The first day we had an interpretor to bridge us so we could understand him, yesterday it was souly him instructing. Thankfully he was going slow. sweatdrop
Unit 1 was easy because I've already been practicing that for a month now. Namely doing my name though. sweatdrop At least I know the cheat for doing my last name now. Seeing at my last name is Reeves I was having trouble doing the double 'e' until I was told I could slide the 'e' to make it easier.

What about your instructor, they deaf?
PostPosted: Thu Feb 05, 2009 1:25 pm
I have two teachers, and both of them are deaf. One is completely deaf and always has been, so she's completely silent and is a very fast signer. She's also absolutely adorable and good at telling stories. I think the other used to have a cochlear implant, but she took it out. Also adorable, and a little easier to keep up with. We never had an interpreter, but they did sign slower or write key words on the board when signing towards the beginning. Both teachers are expressive enough that we can understand their stories even if we don't know all the vocab. smile

The hardest parts for me are room descriptions and loan signs. I will never be able to sign "style." :I

Yeah mine is very expressive too it's part of learning sign language.
I love that he makes it fun, when he was teaching the rest of the class the alphabet any sign that had a familiarality to the hearing community he'd bridge it over to familiarize things.
I know my alphabet so I didn't have any trouble with that.
For 'y' he did the "hang easy expression" that Hawaiian's/surfer's use and stuff like that. xp

Besides learning to sign I'm also learning to express myself more in my body language and facial expressions.

Oh and my teacher has been deaf since he was 3.

Yeah, it hurts to play when your fingers are cold. :[

You know what else hurts? Glissandos... I can't do them without going "oww I never wanna do that again"... I never properly learned how. (That and my keyboard's keys are 88 blocks of pain, I cut my thumb on it recently.)
Cut your thumb?! How sharp are these keys of yours? gonk haha

*Had to look up* Ohhh, I didn't know there was a name for that. I hate it when the notes are so far apart. I remember trying to do an Amy Grant piece and it was like....HOW far is that last note?! All of them were octaves. Ouchie. I hope we're thinking of the same thing, though. iduno. I guess I'd have to have someone teach me what it is rather than reading it. It's better to understand when I'm looking at a piano. XD

But you have to use the pedal is those situations...it sounds pretty but it's way hard. I need bigger hands. Mine are too small!

And that's pretty interesting Ryo and Sora.

And haha Airis. XD

My hands are ridiculously small. It's kinda deterring me from going back to piano or picking up another instrument. I guess my hands wouldn't give me issues with drums... but my mom would want to kill me.

For those of you betting on Gaia Features, here's my current take on the odds that you'll see certain features by March. Please note that a) all opinions are my own and do not reflect the official position of the company, b) I don't know everything, c) I have been amazingly, famously wrong before, d) there is stuff going on that is not listed here.

Inventory UI update, HTML based -- good

I jumped for joy when I read that. It looks like Gaia has finally learned Flash is not the answer to everything! The inventory arranger update is still a ways off, but this gives me hope I'll actually be able to use it when they redo it. heart

Also, I think I found an item dupe glitch. eek I PMed fieryange1 about it. I think she would be the dev to... uh... alert? sweatdrop

Edit: Flaming turtle of destiny? Sometimes the EI's just kill me. rofl

I'm pretty sure we're thinking of the same thing; a glissando is when you slide from one note to another. (My hands are small, too. It's really sad when after 17 years you still can't play things in octaves cleanly...)

Alright, I really have to get this off my chest. My city wants to build a damn baseball stadium in my neighborhood for the Oakland A's. Literally down the street. Literally in my neighbor's back yard. And a few blocks away from the local elementary school. It's outrageous. They've been studying the "site" for almost 2 years now.

My neighborhood is made of immigrant success stories. People who came to the USA with nothing, people who worked hard to making a living to move to this peaceful area to raise their kids and put them in good schools. What will this stadium do to our property values? Crime rate? 10,000 extra cars driving around? Pollution, litter, noise, people being stuck in their homes during game nights? The worst part is how the city is planning this behind closed doors; the people haven't even had a chance to ******** VOTE on it.

They say it will "bring revenue" and "help local businesses"... Oh, really? If it was so great, why did all of the big businesses oppose having the stadium built in the commercial district?!

My family and I went to a protest last night, along with like 800 other people. Really, I'm so mad about this. I wish I knew what I could do... I've joined my city's online citizen network and offered to volunteer for any future events... I hope we can get the city council to listen to us.

...it's kind of sad that I see a picture of a flashdrive and my first response is "is that a purple broadband card? What carrier is that for? It's pretty!" before realizing that no, it's a flashdrive.
