Bermese David2074 Bermese Wow... this Guild looks a little dead. gonk
It's less than 2 months away. Anyone excited? I am considering going this year. I have not gone the past two years. The issue is deciding if I want to spend several hundred dollars for three days of hotel. I live about 100 miles away so gas is not too bad and full pass admission is not too bad. Last time I went I got a hotel with a kitchenette. That made meals easier and cheaper. However between gas, meals, hotel, ticket, parking etc I'm looking at around $700. Sakuracon is fun but that's still a lot of money I could spend on something else. I know the feeling, I'm hoping not to spend too much this year. I usually stay well in my budget area. 3nodding Hmm... well my friends and I are looking for a third person for our "guy room" Since one of the guys bailed out. My friend who booked the room is asking for $155 per person. Not bad. If you're interested I can talk to her. We're staying at the Hilton Homewood Suites. 2-Bed, 1 sleeper sofa. So technically each room has enough space for 3 people, without having any awkwardness.
Hmm. actually I am maybe interested. Homewood Suites is where I stayed before. Is it a no smoking room? What nights is it booked for? I found it easier to come down Thursday and register early instead of fighting the hoards on Friday but that's not a huge deal. And the $155 is for the whole time, not per night right? I can get sort of close to that per night just staying there by myself. How many people would actually be staying in the room? If I'm reading the rules right it would be a max of four. I'm not interested in sneaking people in and 'room cramming'. I wonder what Hilton's rules are about parking more than one car in their garage. I'm guessing it would just be an extra fee. I feel a bit safer having my vehicle in their enclosed garage than an open street lot.
A couple of things you should know about me - I'm 52 so I'm probably older than all of you. I'm not a perv or a weirdo but if me simply being older is a problem for you I'll tell you up front. I won't be wearing a costume. I love anime and I love seeing / taking photos of other peoples costumes. I'm not against a costume it's just that I FAIL at being creative enough to come up with one.
This might be better continued in PM. My PMs are open if yours are. I'm interested in knowing more about the situation.

David2074 MissDotHacker Bermese Less than a month away!! Has anyone started planning? Finished planning?
Here's hoping registration goes smoothly for everyone. I heard the horror stories from last year, and am dreading waiting in line!! gonk I have things planned out. Sadly none of my friends can go this year so I got a cheaper hotel room farther away from the con. Not keen on doing six or seven hundred dollars for just a room and parking. I never do registration on Friday, I always go on Thursday and last year I waited around ten minutes. Not bad at all however if you are on the first people in line you tend to get less in your goody bag. A few years ago I got nothing but the program and my friend who went a few hours later got a ton of stuff. I got lucky her boyfriend did not like the cell phone charm that I did so he gave it to me. I know only so many things get donated but spacing them out some would be nice when they stuff the bags. Interesting info about the goody bags. Never thought about it. I never did find anyone to share a hotel room with so I'm probably not going this year. And if you don't mind my asking - how much did you end up paying a night?
I know because I know someone who has volunteered and is now a high ranking staff member, she confirmed it for me. Plus I stuffed bags one year.
All the usual people I go with ditched out on me so I could not afford a super close hotel. The one I found is 49.95 a night with no parking fee.

That's pretty reasonable. For that rate in Seattle it must be in the 'barely adequate' category? Do you mind me asking the name of the place and how far from the convention center? And I'm guessing at that rate no kitchenette. On the other hand the savings compared to the Sheriton mean one could afford more food out.

Of course no kitchenette, I never spend time in the room though. I stay at the convention all day so does not bother me. For me it is a bed and a shower, that is all I need and only for five or six hours a night. I am no really comfortable posting more information in a forum.
