Sky Chapter 1.1
Reflection.
Trey Callow walked to the open window of his brother’s room and pulled it slowly shut stopping the snowy breeze that was invading the room. Trey brushed some of his dark blue hair out of his eyes and looked into the mirror gazing upon the 16 year old that stood before him which wasn’t a particularly odd exercise when you consider the fact that Trey was 16 and 16 year old boys are quite eager to impress there peers by what ever means possible. Some 16 year olds might try to impress those around them by learning a sport and becoming an amazing athlete. Some 16 year olds my try to impress with there powerful intellect and become very rich business men. But Trey Callow found him self with out amazing physical skills and no where in his genetically implanted instincts was he programmed to be a business man. In fact Trey Callow was completely average in every way. Trey was average in every since of the word. Average height, average weight, average grades, average everything. In fact the only thing that really set Trey apart from the rest of the world and made him odd in anyway was his living agreement. Ever since he had been a child the only person who was ever there for him was his brother Cruz. Cruz Callow was 2 years older then Trey but at 18 he had more life experience then most people past the age of 50. There parents had both passed away from a very odd illness, not unlike the one my good friends mother would eventually catch and die from which, if you fast forward 4 years from this day, isn’t odd at all. Cruz was only 5 and ever since then his one goal in life was to provide for his brother. Trey closed his eyes and flushed the memory of that day out of his mind. Even though he was only 3 at the time Trey remembered the exact shade of white the hospital walls were and despite the fact he was too young to grasp the fact that his life was changing for ever Trey could remember his brothers face when the doctor walked into the room and gave him the news. Trey was shaken out of the past by the sound of the front door opening and closing which wasn’t odd at all as it was 7:30 and his brother was now home. Trey bolted up and looked out into the world past the window one more time. The snow was really coming down but Trey could still make out the blue tint of the O-Gas flying up into the atmosphere from a huge factory that stood in the center of the nearest city which for the time wasn’t odd at all. The factories had to be huge to get the Ozone inducing gases high enough into the upper layers of the atmosphere. Each factory was jet black with a half dozen huge stacks that rose high into the air spewing there life giving gas into the air. From the base to the tallest stack each factory was well over 10 football fields high and no matter where you were on the planet you could always see one of them rising high into the sky. Trey always felt they ruined the scenery. Especially out in the middle of the country where his brother and he lived. Trey shrugged and walked out of the room closing the door behind him. The factories were a necessary part of life. With out them, every human on the planet would die of radiation from the sun. Trey smiled at the odd thought of the planet once having its own Ozone. His history teacher had told his class that once; the world was able to sustain its own Ozone to protect its inhabitants. But a long time ago man kind destroyed the Ozone layer and unleashed the sun’s wrath on the human race little by little. Soon it was crucial that humans learn how to create Ozone and implant it into the atmosphere. Trey chuckled to him self as he hopped down the first few steps on the stairs and took the rest of them one at a time. Trey just couldn’t imagine a world with out the factories. He couldn’t believe that once man kind didn’t have to create ozone and shoot it up into the air just to keep them selves alive. Much like the dinosaurs, the concept was just too far away to really grasp. Trey jumped down the last of his steps and stepped into the living room of his house. It wasn’t the biggest thing, but then again it wasn’t small by any stretch. Red carpet lined the floor from the stairs to the entrance of the kitchen on the other side of the room. Sitting in his favorite chair with his head in his hands, which was weird because back then he was a very cheerful and enjoyable person to be around, sat his brother Cruz Callow. Cruz had blue hair as well but instead of falling strait like Treys did, Cruz’s was spiky and uncoordinated. Trey stopped in his tracks and said “so, anything I need to know.” Cruz looked up and smiled. “No, not really, just a hard day at work on top of my 2 hours of sleep” Trey chose this moment to start up an ongoing argument that his brother and him engaged in almost every day. “You know, if you were to let me work you could…” Cruz suddenly stood up rising to his full height of 6 foot 5. He shook his head and said “No, you need to go to school, your education is important and we really don’t need the money, we still have almost a third of the money mom and Dad left us, were fine.” Trey didn’t want to look at his brother in the eyes. Trey knew that he had hit a spot and it was best not to push Cruz right not. Trey nodded and sat down on the couch. “That a boy.” Cruz said as he sat back down and stretched out. ‘Besides, what do we really have to complain about? Sure it’s a 2 hour drive to the factory, and sure my job isn’t exactly fun but hey. Look at the house it got us. I’m telling ya Trey, this is the life.” Cruz smiled to Trey and gave him thumbs up. Trey smiled back and stared at the dark television that was imbedded into the wall. Cruz was right, they were living the life. What did he have to complain about? Trey sighed feeling a little better as he watched the TV, along with the rest of the wall in front of him burst into flames which, to anyone else would be a very odd thing. In fact to Trey at the time it was very odd indeed. But remembering Trey Callow’s face as he recited these events to me and listening as Trey Callow’s life became odder by the minute, I can understand why a young man, now 20, can look back at his life and find the sudden explosion of his house not odd in the least.
