"Yeah. Total c**k. And he's got this..." Harrison gestured vaguely around Wilson, "M'drinks gone," Harrison said, frowning and tilting the bottle morosely.

...His mood was significantly improved by the headbanging.

His attention drawn by the group, Rep was intently trying to see what was being said. It was hard though, words apparently didn't look the way you thought they might. Even a lifetime of trying to lip read in low light clubs over loud music didn't help much.

Surely they wouldn't be talking about sodomy? He needed to get his brain out of the ******** gutter.

Harrison's bottle got a cursory glance, and he plucked it out of Harrison's hand and tossed it behind them, where it broke with the other one with a satisfying shatter of glass. "They keep looking over here man." he said raising his voice a bit and his hand demonstratively. "Shee the ring? Taken awright!"

He slunk his grip even more possessively on Harrison as he eyed the group again, but seemed to relax just a fraction as Wilson took his drunkenness out on the wall. "See? I told them off man."

Melvin followed as best a person with a lot of whiskey in them could and entered Jerry's room slowly. He had never been on this floor before, and never in Jerry's room. There was a lot of instruments in here. Posters and other papers were tapped to his walls, a couch that didn't look recently store bought, and a small kitchenette. There was also a table that was just a board on some cinder blocks. Just when he was about to stop looking about, he noticed the door to the open bathroom.

Hunters got their own bathrooms. "Hunters get their own bathrooms?" He asked, stepping closer to look inside. It had a shower!

Now super green, and not by drinking, he looked back over as Jerry piled his arms with every instrument around. "Do you want me to carry something? I thought you said you were just getting a piano."

"Yeah, yeah! Melvin, fabulous!! It's not heavy, just awkward, but if you get that and end the door we'll be good to go!" Jerry beamed, straightening his own load before taking one end of the keyboard and it's stand and motioned for Melvin to help with the other. "This is going to be the best New Years ever."

"You must have had some shitty New Years parties."

Melvin took the end of the keyboard, glad it was light. It wasn't the best idea to ask someone from the Life division to do any sort of lifting, let alone a beyond tipsy one. Helping the instrument through the door, he headed back and luckily didn't tumble down the steps as they headed to the party.

Holding the door open, he helped Jerry bring the keyboard into the party, feeling a bit guilty that he was helping bringing a piano in. He was helping this mess happen, but Jerry's smile was too wide for him to say something. Hopefully everyone was too drunk to kick the Sun when he seemed to be riding on a cloud.

When Jerry set up the stand and they set the keyboard on, Melvin just took a breather.

There was an awkward sort of stare down while Gale stood there with the glass of water in his hand, stretched towards Madeline, and Madeline just sort of blinked back at him without actually taking it. After a long moment, he crouched down beside her, his free arm - the one still wrapped in bandages - resting across his knees, still holding the cup out.

"Getting drunk isn't the hard part," said Gale. "It's forgetting again what you remember you were trying to forget the night before."

He gave a little shrug as she finally took the cup, wrapping his other arm across his first. "I don't judge that quickly," he said. "Believe me, if I were to judge you for acting like a prat at times, I would have no friends here."

Tilting his head to the side a little, Gale surveyed her somewhat curiously. "Anything I can do to make it better?"

Jerry was humming enthusiastically as he set everything up, unslinging his guitar to gently lean it next to the keyboard and set his ukulele down before glancing around for Madeline... who apparently had had too much to drink, judging by how her friends were hovering around her.

He sagged a bit in disappointment.

Next time, Madeline, next time.

"Otto!! Did you get it??" He pulled out the set of maracas, giving them an enthusiastic shake as he glanced around for the young Deather.

Madeline peered up at Gale thoughtfully even when he crouched down. "Hmm." She closed the book and dropped it to the side with ginger care, like a librarian taking care of a particularly loved book. "That's true." She drew her knees up to her chest, resting her chin on the top of them and smiling slowly at Gale. "Convoluted, but completely true. It's not even a temporary fix. All of the bad things just come back in the morning, don't they?"

She balanced the empty cup on her fingertip, watching it before her gaze returned to the golden boy in front of her. "What if I acted like a prat all the time?" She waggled her eyebrows at him in a way that said she was obviously joking, but the humorous mood quickly died away. "You'll have to meet me when I'm not either a raging mess or a raging drunk. We seem to have a bad habit of running into each other when I'm one or the other, and I don't want our next encounter to be you the noble gentleman and me the raging prat."

The question earned a quirky little smile, but she seemed to seriously consider if he could in fact do something for her. "Could you just - keep me company." She tilted her head to the side, examining Gale plaintively. "I do stupid things when I'm alone. I might or might not have built a card house in my bedroom and set it on fire with the intention of something intelligent in mind - but I forgot what it was." She smiled benignly at the hunter. "I don't think I ever got your name properly, by the way."

Welp, Jerry was back. He'd not forgotten, unfortunately.

Otto wanted with all his being to just disappear into the background. He never wanted to be at this party to begin with, and now he was on the spot to be some sort of monkey performer. Once upon a time, when he first woke up, he could tell anyone off without any guilt or doubt if he didn't want to do something. Now looking at the dorky, music loving Sun Hunter, Otto was torn between playing along just to make him happy, and running for the damn hills. Since when did he care what people thought anyway? He could walk away and hurt Jerry's feelings, and it wouldn't be a big deal. Right?

"Uh..." Otto felt kind of sick now... "Ya know what, dude? How about ya just show us what ya got. Don't need me, right?" He sluk further and further away, hoping to disappear for real, the drink in his hand held tightly.

Jerry sagged a bit once again, lowering the maracas before setting them nearby. "Yeah... yeah I can get it all warmed up and you can join in when you're ready?" He urged hopefully.

Madeline a bit too tipsy and now Otto too stage shy... And him looking foolish with all this equipment- well, darn it all! "Melvin... melvin do me a huge favor?" He put an arm around the blonde Lifer to hiss conspiratorially, "Could you make me a rum and coke and ah... just not mention the rum part to anyone? That'd be awesome!" He gave him a clap to the shoulder before pulling a chair up to the keyboard to look over the runic'ed controls.

A one man band moment, huh? Well, at least Candace had helped out with that...

Melvin looked over at Otto, who was sinking back more and more, and to Jerry, who's frown was deepening with each inch Otto stepped away. It seemed that Jerry had gotten all his gear without talking everything through with his friends. The guy always seemed over eager to play instruments, though Melvin had only heard his play once during Thanksgiving. Actually, it seemed every time Jerry came around with a group of people, he wanted to play an instrument.

When he was grabbed, he tensed and started to pull back when he was then asked a favor and then slapped on the shoulder. What was this? He felt like he was back in the labs being slapped about by the techs who kept referring to him like some loose secretary to fetch their coffees.

Still, Jerry seemed one step away from crawling under his piano than playing it.

"Sure." Though...why would he care who knew what he drank? Rum wasn't a prissy drink after all.

Not sure, he went over and fixed a drink, finding a clean glass, pouring more rum than coke, some ice cubes from a tub that was set on the table among the bottles, and went back and set the drink down. That was about as far as his helping was going to go, not really in the mood to be fetching drinks like some waiter.

Moving over, he stepped near Otto. "Stage fright, Otto?"

"Life is convoluted," quipped Gale, though it wasn't sarcastic or demeaning, merely matter-of-factual. He glanced around at the room, still crouched on the floor with his arms wrapped around his knees, eyes resting briefly on Wilson, still with his head against the wall, before he turned back to Madeline. "You can't forget the things you want to, even if you try."

He wished he still had his glass of wine, but a glass and a half was probably enough for him. Gale tilted his head to the side, and then shook it a little, some of his hair falling into his eyes.

"Nah," he said. "You're not always a prat. Very few people fall into that category, and you're not even close to being on their level."

Something in Gale's face softened a little at her request, and the barest hint of a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. Slowly he shifted his arms, extending his hand out towards her.

"Gale," he said quietly. "My name is Gale Gentry."

Fortunately, Wilson stopped his headbanging after a few times. He turned his head toward both Rep and Harrison, his eyes narrowed and lips still curled into a frown. The hunter only glanced at Gale and Mads before sighing. He straightened his shoulders before walking over to the refreshment table for his third glass of champagne. Wilson downed the drink in one shot, quietly placed it on the table, and walked out without a word.

So far so good. Jerry seemed disappointed, and even hopeful that Otto would join later, but for now he was safe. He relaxed, but only a little. He still wanted to run at the nearest opportunity. Geez, why'd they have to turn off Metallica?

His gaze never left the ground, even as Melvin stood nearby. ".....just don't like bein' the center of attention.... I hate it.. it freaks me out.." He muttered almost inaudibly.

Lex sort of just phased out for a while, sipping on his beverage and having a mental debate with Regal about the point of celebrating New Years and why it was so important to their culture. It represented new beginnings, hope, change, all the fun stuff. The Gryphon just snorted and shook his head.

Back to the real world - and Lex became aware that Otto seemed a little distressed. Best to get him out of the situation, really. "Otto, c'mere." He called, he beckoned with his voice and hand. He obviously didn't want to be there.
