If you got confused by my...erm...confusing post, my stand point on this debate is that cartoons like Avatar, Winx Club, etc. are not and will never be anime.
I was saying that America is relying less on cartoons to entertain people because shows like Hannah Montana, Cory in the House, etc. are entertaining kids more nowadays.

Anime is just short for "animation", so technically cartoons (like American cartoons..) are still "anime", but now that we've used the word only in reference to JAPANimation ahha, people would no longer ever call a regular, non-japanese cartoon "anime"..... xp

Your point is burnt out and wasn't right from the start, though. They follow the same style. Hence, they're just like anime. Though anime = animation only in French. Last I checked, we're not speaking French, are we? talk2hand Avatar is anime, same as Zentrix (Hong Kong) is Anime, or Highway (Korea) is Anime. Winx Club? Anime, too. Light-hearted, silly anime, but what magical girl anime (other than Magic Knights Rayearth or porn magical girl anime) isn't like that most of the time? razz

jus my opinion..
to me, theres a huge difference between anime and cartoons.
it doesnt sound quite rite if u call cartoons 'anime'
its jus like ur saying tht spongebob is anime.
idk, it jus doesnt match :/
so i would say no.
yeah its true it really doesnt sound rite if you call cartoon anime for the cartoons its just called animation not anime 3nodding

I count all animation the same. I rate them by their quality not by where they are made. Simple as that.

Ozarck anime is much better than cartoons best characters best story best OST everything is better Yet the animated show that in my opinion has the best of all three is Disney's Gargoyles. We are the defenders of the night. WE ARE GARGOYLES. Epic

To me anime and cartoons are totally different. Animes are brutality voilent, haev deep love stories, rude comedy, etc. Which a cartoon is toned down a lot for kids. Which always has a happy ending. And everything is bright and sunshiny. I say that anime and cartoons are on different scales of animation. Anime are for teens+ and cartoons are for kids.

GiRLy_PaNdA [sHiBuYaGaL] No matter how good your responses are, I still stand by my opinion about anime. Cartoons are not anime, anime can only be made in Japan. Anime is made for everyone's viewing or a certain audience's viewing [i.e. hentai]. Futurama, Family Guy, etc. are cartoons not appropriate for kids and I agree, but they are from Adult Swim. I consider Adult Swim a totally different cartoon-airing station. Sure, they are directed at a different audience but one audience only: teens. Sure, on Fox there is American Dad and The Simpsons, but that is because they want to copy Adult Swim and expand their audience range. Anime belongs to Japan. It is part of their culture. Can't we just let them have their own thing? Actually, I think we should just forget this whole thing. Cartoons in America are going to die, definitely. America is now making many more live-action shows and kids like them more. There are seven-year-olds who prefer CSI to...trying to think of a cartoon...erm...Kim Possible. The cartoon audience gets smaller everytime they release a new show like Hannah Montana. On Disney Channel, there are only four cartoons that actually show when people are awake: American Dragon, Kim Possible, Emperor's New School, and The Replacements. Disney used to be all about cartoons, but now it's all live-action. Well not just belongs to japan. Cuz wasn't one piece orginally from China? And since were on the subject I watch anime and cartoons. It's just something i do.
