"Ah so the little one managed to make out my face. Its surprising it took you this long to remember. Ennui isn't so different in appearance then me.. albiet a bit more remote and booooring." He laughed at the end but it was not of mirth, "Such an annoying little cockroach. I kill you once and you keep coming back." He spat stalking closer until he saw the older clockwork reach for her mask.

He had heard about her abilities but never really experienced them. He even wondered if they would work on him. Then a thought came to mind, "Do you really want to risk using that? You may fear me or even hate me for that matter but do you feel the same for Ennui? He has done nothing to you, correct? Will you honestly risk hurting him just to get at me. If I die so does he; I'm just one side to this twisted little coin. So what will you do?" He didn't know himself but was quite certain Ennui would also experience things he was not accustomed too. Seidus would not allow any unnecessary harm to his counterpart. Not from anyone and most assuredly not from her. He moved quick as he was able in such a small space hoping to snag her by the wrists to pin against the wall above her.

Beacause of her hesitation Relique didn't move in time and in a second he was upon her and her hands were pinned against the wall. ...And the mask, whether she meant for it to or not, slid off her face and revealed her large crimson eyes that locked onto his. A small gasp left her mouth, but it was smothered by the echoing crash as her mask made contact with the hard floor between them.

"You b***h!" He had been about to strike her but all pretenses of such an act had left him as his crimson eyes locked with her own. For that second everything stood still and all he could see was complete darkness. Then suddenly light filled his vision and he was moving away from Relique in an instant.

Whatever she had done was enough to get him away. As he flailed about he could see nothing the light as blinding as any sun he'd ever witness. It was too much for him to take as he fell to his knees screaming. But it wasn't his own scream, Ennui did indeed join him. Both entities experiencing the burst of light that they did not like.

A moment of silence came over them until Ennui was left his body shaking and his mind in shambles. He continued to mumble something, incoherent words until it started making sense. In his mind he saw the figure, the room which was once dark filled with light. It caused him to cringe for he hadn't been in light since his creation and was not used to it. When that light spilled into the room it only meant bad things...

"Sionek... no...!!!" Instantly he shot up looking around. The light was gone, only the dim shimmer of the moon spilled in through the windows as the library slowly began to fill his vision. "Wha...what happened?" He questioned more to himself but it was audible for others.

Relique didn't reply, or even really stir for that matter, when his question came to her ears and echoed softly in the area. She was seated on the floor several feet away with her back to him, her sashes and scarves in bunches around her or draped from her crooks of her arms. Her head was bowed and her shoulders were moving a little - an indication that she was using her hands in some way. In replacement of her current lack of voice, tiny earthy clinks sounded faintly from her vicinity, but other than that she made no other audible sounds.

Ennui sighed to himself running his thin fingers through his finely combed hair. The halo that sat at an awkward angle atop his head began to buzz irritably in his ears. He hated the thing but so long ago he had done everything he could to be ride of the saintly artifact. To no avail it returned every time unaffected by his methods of dispposal.

He let out one final sigh when the ringing stopped and turned his eyes toward the figure huddled on the floor. He knew instantly who rest there and stood to his feet. Walking marginally, slowly toward her he slipped his head to the side trying to see what conditon the woman was in. The last he could remember was her accusations. He did not want to go through that again.

"I...did I hurt you?" He questioned. The fact that he had no clue of his alter ego was evident in the bored concern for the woman. All of his actions were in some cases simply without emotion as if programmed in him. He was robotic as his concern did not show on his face even as he hovered over the other clockwork he did not kneel to show comfort, nor did his eyes fall upon her but instead on the book that had been dropped face down off to the side. He would have ventured to investigate the book but something in the woman before him attracted his attention. What was she doing? "Relique? I would require an answer. he spoke with an uncaring tone as he did at that moment kneel beside her and place a comforting hand upon her shoulder... or was it a demanding one?

As she felt his hand on her shoulder, she turned her face away and shut her eyes. Tears fell freely down her cheeks without much seen emotion and she flicked a part of her sash over the cluster of porcelain shards in front of her, some already magically put back together.

"Then confide in yourself for that answer. Or are you actually so unknowing of your immediate self that you cannot?"
Her words, while said in her silver soft voice, were hard and sharp. She did not wish to be rude, but she did not know what else to say, and the words had banged against her mind and burned at her throat for some many minutes now that they had to be let out.

He removed his hand as if suddenly burnt and quickly stood to his full height. Her reply was hard to congest, he was uncertain of what she was speaking about. "Woman have you gone mad? What are you asking of me?" he questioned the sound of his voice never moved an octive above its usual deadpan tone.

What was she asking? Other self? What mad person would speak in such a way? He sighed the gesture not out of frustration but a trained action he had seen many others do when confronted with a situation they were uncapable of figuring out. "Very well. Perhaps it is for the better that I do not persue any further answers with you." He said simply. Turning on his heels he left the Clockwork to wallow in her own emotions, he would have none of it. Besides, what concern did he have for her?

Though it wasn't until he reached the end of the aisle that his feet would not move. Something had transpired, something he was completely unaware. On top of that it had something to do with him. He wished no harm to the Clockwork but when answers were not given it made finding any truths that much more difficult. "I asked you to accompany me because ... perhaps I considered myself being able to confide in you. Maybe even trust you. Yet it appears something has happened that has turned you to loath me. I will learn why some day but can you find it in yourself to walk with me until then?" It was the same deadpan tone but it was not hard to fathom the underlining message, he was, in his own way, learning how to open up.

God did he know how to lay on a guilt trip...

Relique let her shoulders sag and a small sigh escape her lips. She knew he was right. He, himself, as Ennui, had never done anything wrong to her; it was Seidus all the way, as well as the Church...

She sighed again and nodded her head ever-so-slightly as she took up one of her sashes. She tied the fluttery fabric over her eyes just loose enough to allow her to glance out the bottom and see the floor. Leaving the pile of porcelain shards on the ground with its cloth as she stood, she moved over to the book that had been dropped and picked it up.

"I do not loath you, Ennui,"
she said softly as she turned away from him to find the page she was on. When she succeeded, she turned back and moved over to him, her head slightly bowed so she could see the ground.

"But do understand that I have more reason to act this way towards you than anyone else."
She held out the book to him, one hand holding open the pages while the other supported it from beneath. It was a large and old looking book; its pages yellowed from sunlight and general age. The page she had open to him was one that looked like the beginning of a chapter or story and at the top the name of the book -From Inquisition- was printed in Gothic scripture next to the page number.

"This is a historically accurate documentation of one of the leaders of the Spanish and Roman Inquisitions during the witch hunts of the 17th century during a few of the trials and torturings he ordered to be carried out on some 'accused witches,'"
she tilted her head up at him. "The leader was named Seidus, and one of the accused witches - the one with the most information - is me." She paused for a moment. "...You are Seidus."

Ennui remained silent for a while until Relique had finally found her voice. Indeed she didn't seem to loath him as he had hoped. Hoped? A strange emotion or perhaps a simple word to what was already understood. Shrugging the thoughts aside he settled himself next to Relique as she opened the book.

Listening to her words only served to confuse him further as he wasn't certain what she meant. He did not ask and rather followed her lead as she spoke of the book and a historical fact.

He read over the pages remembering a shard from his past of being present for the Inquistions. "...I was there." He half asked and partically stated. Something in his mind began to click as he read further learning that the witch in question was indeed Relique. He did not know this Seidus person. The information given on the leader in question didn't make sense; it was like reading about himself but someone that was not him. "I do not understand." He said his face distorting with the effort it took to fathom such thoughts. "It is obvious by your standing here that you escaped. How is this possible? Why does he want you dead?" He looked up then stepping back as he awaited answers. Again that sudden need to disappear had resurfaced, more unpleasant truths, ideas and emotions he couldn't handle were pushing his urge to simply forget. Despite them all he managed to hold out and turned unmoving opaque eyes upon the woman.

The Sorrow let the book clap shut with a small echo and then shook her head lightly. "How I am still alive? I was saved by the Amati family and taken to Austria - that is all I know, I was never told the details. As to why Seidus wants me dead now, after all these years? Most likely because I somehow escaped the first time." She shrugged her pale shoulders and tilted her head down at the book in her hands since she didn't know exactly where Ennui stood anymore.

Ennui turned his back to Relique trying to absorb the information he was given. He would not let himself fall under the need to forget, to disappear. Surely these were facts about himself that he needed to know, he would bare with it for now.

Looking out the windows he could see the moon's life shift from its high place in the sky. It was getting late obviously by such a shift. "Perhaps we should depart for now." he spoke softly not wanting to face Relique head on.

The idea that a part of him wanted her dead didn't seem to fit right. He didn't hate his own kind, he barely hated the humans save for one... and then again he wasn't sure what "hate" pertained to. What could an emotionally retarded entity like himself hope to understand by feeling anything at all? He remained silent for the most part taking the book from Relique in his silence. This was something dealing with himself and her in the past surely there was more dealings on that topic within these pages? "I will learn more. I do not understand why any part of me would want you dead. But I must know. It isn't fair to be ignorant of one's self." He spoke simply enough.

[I suppose we could close up if you want.]

She kept her head slightly tilted even as she let the tome's smooth surface slid from her fingers, and stood in silence for some minutes after his voice stopped echoing off the high ceiling. What happened in that wedge of time in her history was something that she never normally wished to look back on or think about, or even know about for that matter... but now there was a smoldering spark of question and angered curiosity rolling in her brain.

"Promise me,
" she began, and tilted her head up slightly, " promise me that you'll tell me anything else that you find out about... our 'matter'."

A promise? Such a fickle thing as a meer oath of words was uncomprehensable to the clockwork, he didn't understand it. Humans went to war for broken oaths, they stole, killed and deceived each other over it. So why was his own kind bent on practicing the human ways?

"A promise...?" He questioned. "I cannot...I do not understand the human ways of a spoken oath. It is an oath of which I must give my life to you, is it not?" From his understanding a promise was often spoken between lovers. He neither loved nor hated the other. "I will give you the information you request but I cannot promise myself to you..." Perhaps his wording was that of a child misunderstanding the meaning behind a simple word; or maybe he preceived things differently from everyone else.

If they were under almost any other circumstance, Relique may have actually laughed at his interpretation of her words, but since they were in this circumstance, she did not.

"No," she replied softly and lightly shook her head once or twice. "The promise I wish to hold you to is merely that you will give me any information you may find and that you won't hide anything. That's it; it's not intimate in the sense that I believe you're interpreting it as." She went silent for a second before adding," I'm not asking for us to throw ourselves at each other."

His mouth formed in an 'o' as he realized what she was requesting. Simply put she wanted information without his secracy. Why hadn't she just said so? What was the need for such a drastic exchange?

"Throw ourselves at each other?" He seemed a bit confused, hoping he wasn't being tricked. While the other gave no reason not to trust her, he simply did not wish to put himself in such a situation. "Whatever information I find I will pass it on..." Pausing he stood in thoughtful expression. "So long as you understand I cannot give myself so freely, understood?" An innocent exchange of words but necessary. He began to shuffle away turning for a slight moment to look at the other in slight bafflement. He then continued his stride a wave of annoyance washing over him... this was liken to his other personality that shifted slightly within him. He was gone just as quickly, however.

"If there is nothing else you wish from me, then perhaps we should make our exit. The dawn is upon us."
