Mezi figured that once he was old enough (or at least large enough to take Mleli in a fight), his mother would stop pestering him so much. Or he'd stop caring. One or the other was bound to happen after a while, right? He had been here as a cub, when he was most vulenerable towards her anger. He'd be gone for a while, he assumed, so by the time he got back, everything would be better.
In all honesty, Mezi hadn't considered even telling his other siblings he was leaving. Matojo might've, but he hadn't. Nor had he wanted to invite them. He wasn't that close to them, and the more of them who came along, the slower they'd go. It was a slightly cold way to look at family, but it was true. However, having someone else come along for the sake of helping hunt or gather food might not be such a bad idea. Toj was strong, sure, and Mezi was learning how to climb, but between the two of them, there was no way they could get enough. Add in Kafiri and you've got some more help, but it still might not be enough. "We could ask them, I guess." He wasn't exactly thrilled by the idea, but logic was working against them. "Let's go." He stood up, shook off the little bit of dirt that had collected on his legs, and turned to leave.

Kafiri's mind worked a little differently than Mezi's when it came to their siblings. Sure, she wasn't too close to half of them but she felt a connection to them, mostly in that they all suffered through the same situation with their mother even though they all got it in different degrees. She'd almost feel bad leaving them here to face mother's anger when she realized they were gone. Help surviving was a secondary thought for her.
"Ok," she agreed, and followed after him.
