Well, the team on there has been doing paranormal work even before they aired the show, and have done many investigations to know what to expect. They are also on t.v., so the people on there would act differently than what you would expect as well, and those people having their places investigated need to be shown on camera, so they must go over lines or read cue cards or something and not be all "OMG I'M ON TV!!!!"

In terms of ghost hunting, in order to even get the ghost's attention they have to speak to it one-on-one, and make sure that there even is an entity in that place. That's what other people do when they think they are being watched and so on.

I have seen more pathetic attempts to be genuine...

The show looks staged, but I don't doubt the professional team have paranormal experience. Hang on, I might be thinking of the wrong show.

There's one show where there's a genuine group of paranormal experts, and another where they have a group of people who are inexperienced and it makes the entire thing look fake.

The TAPS team on Ghost Hunters is professional, since that group is part of a larger one that goes up and down the east coast of the US and have been in the business for 18 years. 3nodding

Ever since GH was aired there have been some pretty lame "copies". There's a show based in the UK where you are called "Most Haunted", but they have actually psychics part of the team. I would not know, then, the other show since there are many fakes out there.

Yes, Most Haunted looks as staged as WWF wrestling (though everyone knows the wrestling IS staged).

Yes, the spirits may be real, but some of those events that are caused by those "spirits" look as fake as fake can be! lol

I have never watched wrestling, but I know things like that happen.
PostPosted: Fri Jun 13, 2008 12:25 pm

I don't watch wrestling either, but had to once as someone I knew liked it. I just put up with it for a while thinking "my word, this is s**t."

Thing is, you never see a damn thing on those programmes. I've never seen them find any wandering spirits. They always say things like "what was that noise? Did you hear that?" and "I'm not going in there, it's WAY too creepy", but nothing ever happens.

You get some obscure photographs and the likes when people have taken pictures in haunted places, and they look legitimate, but I can't take these shows seriously unless they actually find something. Watching a bunch of idiots wandering around a supposedly haunted building in the pitch black with infrared cameras just stikes me as both pathetic and highly amusing. I just can't take it that seriously unless the programme takes on more of a documentary-type atmosphere rather than that of "reality tv".

There's also a spot in Florida that is the most haunted place in the US. Its where the Spanish killed off a lot of people(i think). I've never been there, but it looks like a nice place from what I've seen on tv.

My friend was taking random pictures one day, i forgot where she was at but she took of a police car. She said the back seat was empty, but in the picture there was something there. It was very strange, and she was really serious about it. I didn't know what it was and neither did she. She's one of my best friends, so theres no reason she would lie to me. We discussed it for a while too. We just couldn't figure out what it was though.

Well isn't that funny? I've never seen any of those shows you've mentioned; not even wrestling! And I've hated wrestling games, especially those on the NES. Such awful graphics...

But we're talking about ghosts so I have to add something.

Let's see... Mel said something about how the show Ghost Hunters was done in a lame way. I don't know if there's a "right" way to actually hunt ghosts but, I suppose some gadgets would be essential. rolleyes

Mel: Well, TAPS on Ghost Hunters actually finds things on the cameras they set up around the place they are investigating, like legit shadows and orbs and so on. Plus, there are experiences and unexplainable noises on the infrared cameras, like the one where one of their camera guys had his equipment lift up and thrown backwards without a reason and he fell down hard on his back. They even showed the shot over and over again, in slow motion and enhanced graphics. I think the people on "Most Haunted" actually have yet to catch something on camera! rofl

They actually have a contest going on where you can enter and if you are chosen you can go on a ghost hunt with them at one of the largest hotels they investigated twice, and have your own place investigated. I just wish I had a big enough place for them to have a decent hunt! xD Maybe I could take them to a cemetery around here that has been known to produce ghosts and other spirits: it used to be a Native American burial ground, too, and most claims are of those Natives appearing and causing chaos. I have yet to go there since it's a bit more east of me, but I would like to see for myself what lurks there! (as long as I do not pick up a demonic presence... o.o)

Hypno: Who says there is a right way to do anything? They need gadgets to show proof of paranormal activity anyway.

He-he, sounds funny.
I haven't heard of anyone around here doing anything like the contest you mention. It might be interesting to see what someone around here could do if they wanted to do something similar though...

I do know there are many ways to do things, there's the right way, the wrong way and the Max Power way, ha-ha! rofl

I actually do believe in ghosts. In areas, such as old American Civil War battlefields, one can sense the presence of many lives who were lost violently and before their time. These ghosts tend to stay around the sight of their death, unable to move on because of how violent their passing was.
Other ghosts stick around becasue they do not know that they are dead. Often they were almost reclusive in life, and when they passed, they did not realize that they are dead, and so their spirit remains in the place where they loved to spend their time, such as their home.
There are also vindictive spirits of those who were evil poeple in life, and so were denied entrance to Heaven for some reason or another, often for unfinished business, and so they stay around to haunt and torment an area.
If one is interested in different types of ghosts, one should look up the Whaley House in San Diego, CA. I saw it on TV, and then a few years later visited it. It has the ghosts of a whole family and a vindictive ghost of a murderer. It is one of the most haunted houses in America.

Hey! Thanks for coming here Hawkgirl!
So you do believe in the ghost thing, eh? That's cool.
You might have a point there. Some people speculate the very same thing, especially when it comes to the ghosts not knowing they are dead. At least that's what the movie called "The Others" is about. Ever seen that one? Nicole Kidman was on that one and I had no idea that there was another movie with the same name. It really doesn't matter but the movie with Nicole Kidman was rather shocking to me cuz I had no clue what the ending was gonna be about. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it but it's worth watching at least once. 3nodding

So, Whaley House huh? This is the first I hear of it. Have you seen the Haunting of Connecticut? That movie is supposed to be based in real life events but I haven't conducted any research on that one.
I'll go look up that house you mention on wikipedia later. Thanks for mentioning it!

Edit: Guess what I found?
They don't have an article yet on the house itself but they do have one of the owner: Thomas Whaley.
How odd is that? neutral

I am a firm believer in ghosts. I don't need proof, but i would like to see a full body apparition, but that's just me.

I don't think you need to see them to know they're there. I've felt a presence that's made me feel really uncomfortable in my house before (I've talked about this previously as well). It's only ever happened at night after mum and dad have gone to bed. It's not happened all that much recently though.

I was told that feeling could refer to a "stain" that's been left from when something might have happened in that area of the house. It's only in the one corner by the porch door where I sense it coming from. Something bad happened there and the essence of it (and someone perhaps) still lingers.

Shall we go into different types of manifestations?
