Cali tried her very best NOT to laugh as Val slowly eased into the water. But it was very difficult. "You won't sink, silly! That's why we have paws. To paddle with!"
Using said paws, she flipped herself over onto her back and frog swam over to him. "It's not too horribly deep. Maybe four or five of me put together?" She shrugged and the water rippled through her green hair from the motion. She loved the feel of water rushing over her. It was so invigorating. Everything was just so much better when immersed in water. She felt weightless and free.
She nudged Val playfully with her shoulder and grinned up at him, then dove under and popped back up the other side. "So, you want to see the moss ball things?"

Valerian couldn't quite help but laugh either. Paddling carefully, he ducked underwater, soaking his mane and plastering it to the side of his face and his neck. "Well, I don't just into ponds that often, so I just want to be sure," he retorted jokingly, grinning broadly the best he could in the water.
He playfully lifted a paw at her approach, pushing her through the water with relative ease. As she bumped him, he was surprised at her sudden disappearance, but quickly managed to defend himself as she appeared yet again on his other side.
"Sure," he replied, eyes shifting down towards the water and whatever was below it, "But I really don't know how long I can hold my breath. Maybe... a minute at most." He smiled again, tail popping out from the water like a small periscope. "I'll give it a shot, though! It never hurts to try."

Cali giggled at his tail. It's like it had a mind of its own. She wasn't really a fan of tails in general. As not having one is obviously so superior. But his was funny, so maybe they weren't so bad.
"Okay, well if you start to feel dizzy or anything go back up! I wouldn't want you to pass out or anything." She grinned and paddled into the middle of the pond. "Just follow me!" With a splash and a kick she dove head first into the water.
She could have shot down faster, but she waited for Val to join. The water was a light brown haze, and the sunlight that filtered through made little patterns in the floating silt. It was beautiful.

"Sounds like a plan to me." he replied, smiling bemusedly. Turning his face away from the splash, he paddled towards where she had disappeared to and looking into the slightly-murky water with a skeptical look on his face.
"Well... here goes nothing." He frowned lightly, but snorted softly at the thought of being able to reach the bottom. Might as well try, at least; there was no harm in that.
Heaving in a large breath, he dove down after her, kicking the best he could through the water. Opening his eyes after a moment, he caught her bright-green pelt first, before taking notice of the light filtering through the silt in the water- a piece of art in it's own mind. He was surprised, to say the least, that water that looked a little bland from above contorted itself into a work of beauty once you were beneath the surface.

Cali saw the bubbles from Val's entrance first, then caught his bright mane. She smiled and waved, then paddled her way down, keeping Val in sight.
When she reached the bottom, she was careful not to disturb the ground. Just one little swipe would cause a huge cloud of silt to rise up, blocking any visibility. Hmm, she thought to herself. Maybe I should have told Val that... She shrugged and took a look around. The moss balls were everywhere. Peppering the pond floor and swaying lightly in the current.

Diving after her, Valerian did his best to keep up with the female. While she was quite adept in the water, he himself was not as skilled in this area. Pushing forward, he kept sight of her bright pelt, silently thanking the goddess that he had encountered one that was so visible in these murky depths.
Noting her sudden slow-up, however, he pulled back a bit, tail falling behind him and grazing the surface. As he did so, a small cloud of silt billowed up, warning that the bottom should not be touched. After making sure he wouldn't touch, the demon gazed about, spotting many of the mounds that Cali had spoke of above the surface.

Cali grinned over at Val and grabbed one of the mossy balls in her mouth, then scooped up a few more with her claws. She motioned for Val to do the same, then headed to the surface using just her back legs for momentum.
It was a little tiring and she was already running out of air, but she'd done this trip before and knew she could make it. She hoped Val would be okay. She hadn't really thought this through, she'd just wanted to show him the moss ball things... but know she was getting a little nervous.

Watching her movements, Valerian went down and snagged one in his large paw, pulling it close to his chest. Turning upwards, he kicked hard, foot pushing off the ground and stirring up a massive cloud of dirt as he did so. He made his way upwards, however, and soon broke the surface of the water with a loud gasp.
Shaking his head and spraying water everywhere, his eyes darted about him, nervously in search of Cali. Had he made it up before her? Where was she now? Gaze shifting, he searched fervently for her, eyes moving to look for her bright pelt beneath the surface.

Cali saw Val break the water just as she herself splashed to the surface. She was impressed! He was a pretty good swimmer. She paddled over to him and squirted some water at the back of his head from between her teeth.
"Hey, you!" She giggled. "You're not too bad in the water!"

Valerian startled as the sharp jet of water hit the back of his head, whipping around quickly to meet Cali's gaze. Relaxing, he let out a loud laugh, the absurdity of their situation finally hitting him.
"That was crazy!" he said, still chuckling to himself, "It's absolutely beautiful down there; I almost wish I had gills so I could stay submerged for longer." He grinned broadly, managing to tread water and keep himself buoyant.
"Thanks," he replied to her compliment, grin only broadening, "Though for a moment down there I thought I'd never keep up with you. You're quick!"

Cali giggled and circled around to face him better. Treading water, she rolled over on her back and talked to him upside down.
"Thanks! I wish I had gills too. Then I could stay in the water all the time!" She was using her paws to keep herself afloat and it was getting difficult to stay in one place the whole time, so she started to drift around in lazy circles.
The sky was looking particularly spectacular today, even though it was a little too bright for her. "Hey, Val. Where do you think the sun goes when it becomes night?"

Valerian watched her, amused as she floated around the pond with ease. He himself had drifted to where he could just touch the bottom, allowing himself to rest after their underwater excursion.
"Though I dunno," he started again, eyes trailing off around the pond, "It might be weird to have little slits on your neck or whatever, right?" He shuddered lightly, then laughed at the idea of it.
"The sun?" he repeated, gaze moving from the side of the pond up to the sky. He hadn't really thought about it before, but it was a good question. He was sure that Caden or Beau would know -exactly- where it went, but neither of them were here now, were they?
"I think... it goes wherever it wants to." he said after a moment more, "I mean, when you work all day like it does, you're entitled to just go and do whatever every now and then." He winked at her, a soft chuckle already in his throat.

Cali paddled lazily through the water and giggled at the idea of having gills. It would look rather odd... kind of like a messed up necklace.
She craned her head to look directly in the sun, but it was so bright it hurt her already sensitive eyes. She glanced back at Val, trying to ignore the purple spots that were now dancing around in her vision.
She nodded seriously. "I guess it would be pretty tiring to heat the entire world all day long. It gets very hot sometimes." She thought about it for a moment and shrugged. "Maybe it goes out to dinner? I wonder what it eats? Stars? That would be kind of sad if it ate stars, they are pretty."

Valerian laughed. "No, I don't think stars," he replied, turning to pull himself from the water and onto shore, "There wouldn't be any left in the sky if the sun ate them all!" He shook his body vigorously, much like a dog, spraying water everywhere around him. Turning and still dripping wet, a dilapidated grin crossed his face.
"You know, maybe it just goes to take a nap," he started, batting playfully at the moss-ball he had lugged ashore with him, "And then moon comes to take its place, like two guards on duty." He shrugged. "But you know..."
Bounding forward, he pranced past a stand of cattails and over a small stream that was trickling into the pond. "We could watch the stars tonight, yeah?" He was as close as he could manage to get to her without jumping back into the water, the gentle little waves lapping at his ankles. "Make sure that sun isn't eating all of them on us."

Cali nodded and waded into the shallows beside where Val was standing. "Okay, but if we do see it eating all the stars, we have to stop it alright?" She took on a very serious tone and splashed her way out of the water and onto the shore. "Even though it's a lot bigger than us, we can't let it eat the stars."
She lost the serious face almost instantly and smiled again. It was her turn to shake off, but she kind of forgot to move away from Val as she did so. Water sprayed everywhere and when finished, her green hair was all tangled around her face. She giggled and started wiping it out of her eyes. "So, where should we go to watch over the stars?"
