I've been told it's just a wax sealant to keep the powder from getting wet. I took a knife and it cuts like wax, so I'm inclined to believe that. I'm probably not going to shoot any of those unless I HAVE to, just for the novelty value.
Yeah, if they are from the '40s I wouldn't shoot them either.
Might make a nice display if you get any other WWII British stuff.

gonk My barrel's 100 years old and still has strong rifling and not a single pit. The thing's ******** adamantium or something.
But yeah, I boiled it just in case.
