Off in a more secluded area of the school yard, two teenagers were facing off. One was heavily built, and very physically sturdy. He was very muscular, and easily weighed over 300 pounds. The other, compared to the other, was incredibly thin. Both were shirtless, and both were in their respective fighting stances. The large one started, kicking his foot in the direction of the other's foot. A wave of earth rubble flung itself in the same direction, getting close to connecting with the thin teenager's face before he moved out of the way. The large one began launching more rubble ruthlessly, while the thin one kept avoiding it all. Then the earth-controller punched the air, sending a solid rock in the thin one's direction. He responded in punching back, this time almost touching the rock before a wave of flame erupted from the end of his fist. The force of the fire was so strong against the rock the rock broke away while the fire-starter did a kick, sending a streak of fire towards the big guy, who punched the ground, making a wall of solid rock. The flames scorched the wall, which grew stone spikes and was sent in the direction of the pyromancer. The fire-starter drew back both hands and then pushed forward, letting loose an inferno. Before the wall reached him, it was melted into a pile of red hot goo. The pyromancer was about to strike again when a roaring voice was heard. "Valentine! Daniels! Stop now or you'll regret it!" Caelan froze, fire hovering in front of his fist. Barry, the earth-controller, froze as well, and both turned to the origin of the voice, a very red-faced and bald-headed teacher was glaring at them. "Go to your dorms and wait until it's time to go to class. Now!" Both Caelan and Barry groaned, grabbed their shirts, and walked to their respective dorms. Caelan stepped inside, and into his dorm room. He looked on the list for who he was bunking with, and found it to be Serena. He had met her once or twice before, and they didn't have a feud or anything, but then again, they weren't friends, either. Caelan sat in a chair, grabbed a cigarette, and flicked his thumb, creating a flame, lighting his cigarette. Yeah, there was a big sign above his head saying 'No Smoking In The Dorms', but like Caelan was going to listen?

Serena had arrived to her dorm room, number three, what she believed to be her lucky number. She could smell cigarette smoke issuing out from inside the room... Was her roommate smoking? She had checked the roster and had seen the name: Caelan Valentine. If Serena remembered correctly, he was a fire user... which could spell out for some sort of clashing between them... Fire and water in the same room. Hm. It would be interesting.
Walking in, she glanced momentarily at him, crossing the room to plop her bag at her desk. "You know there's no smoking in here..." she said, her voice soft and flowing, but playful. She didn't really mean it. If Serena had the guts, she'd probably light up also, but she held back. "Caelan, right? I'm Serena," she said.

Caelan's eyes darted to the door, and when Serena referred to the ordinance of no smoking, Caelan snapped his fingers, causing the sign above him to combust. When she introduced herself, Caelan exhaled. "I know. We've met." Caelan grabbed a deck of cards and began shuffling. "Wanna play a game before class?"

Serena suppressed a laugh before walking over to her bed and lying down on her side in order to face him still while talking. "Hm... Depends on the game," she said softly, her blue eyes almost seemingly piercing right through him. A fire and a water element in the same room... Did they want the world to come to an end...?
And then again... Maybe this would be a good change for Serena... Maybe Caelan would be just the fire she needed in her life to tone down the watery bits. What a strange way to put it... Such a play on words... No pun intended. Reaching above her head, she pushed the window open, her hand never really making contact with the glass... She used her power over air to help her instead. Sometimes Serena thought her powers made her a bit of a lazy a**...

Over in the back entrance of the dorms, Victoria was ordering dead souls around to carry her suitcases and textbooks, also being stared down like she was crazy by other students. "I'm sorry I'm making you guys do this. I just had training, so I'm kind of worn out." Victoria's face was full of guilt. She felt horrible doing this to her friends. "Oh, it's alright. You deserve a rest." Her best friends, Lucy, Alana, and Ricky were always with Victoria, helping her whenever she needed it. They were pretty much always with her, so either way Victoria would be looked at strangely. She headed up the stairs to her dorm room quickly, ready to crash for the day. She opened the door to a familiar room. Her room from last year. She laid on the bed, very content. Unfortunately, classes were about to begin soon, so she could only pack in about five minutes. Ricky and Alana set her things in an organized fashion, and Lucy sat on the edge of the bed, ready to wake Victoria up when it was the right time. "Ah. Why don't you just go to class early and sleep there?" Ricky's suggestion wasn't as bad as it seemed. "Ugh. Fine, smarty pants... Alana, could you get my backpack from the gray suitcase over there?" "Of course. Here you go."
Victoria headed out the door, listening to her iPod, headed for her first class. She saw familiar faces walk past her, not bothering to say hello.

Caelan shrugged. "Rummy, Blackjack, Poker..." A mischievous grin crossed Caelan's face. "Strip Poker... you name it." Caelan began doing various card tricks, tossing cards in the air and catching them, all doing random things just for the hell of it.

Serena smirked. Sure, usually she was soft spoken, but she did have a bit of an edgy side to her. She glanced at the clock above her head. "One question... Do you plan on attending class?" she asked as she bended the air to catch one of the cards as he played with them, summoning it over to her and catching it between her pointer and middle finger. "Ace of Hearts..." she said softly and flicked the card up, bending air around it to stay floating above her.
"If you really want to lose your clothes, strip poker would be the game. If you want to see my 'cheating' side, we could play blackjack... I'm a counter..." she said with a slight laugh, her eyes following the card as it glided on the breeze above her...

Caelan snorted. "Me? Attend Biology? Please..." Caelan smirked at her remarks. Either she was at the level of card-play he was, or she had never heard of his infamy for never losing a game. That and the fact he is a master of the card deck, capable of the most difficult card tricks and scams possible. And besides, he had the gift of Darkness on his side, so it was inevitable he would win. Still shuffling the deck, Caelan smirked. Sometimes, it just wasn't fair what he could do to others. "So, strip poker it is? I'm gonna need that Ace of Hearts..."

She paused a moment, the card stopping in mid twirl. Should she attend class? Or maybe she didn't all mind skipping out. She had a perfect attendance record... What would missing one class do to it, hm?
Flicking her wrist, the card shot at Caelan, stopping mere inches away from his face. "Will I regret this move..." she said softly, the card now twirling before his eyes as she thought out loud. "Hm... Perhaps," she said, a small smirk on her face. Serena liked a challenge now and then...

Gem eventually found her way outside, finding a seat on a nearby bench. Granted, it had taken her at least fourty minutes to actually get out the right side of the school building after she managed to find her way into two classrooms and and a janitor's closet. I need a map, or a cute tourguide... she giggled, remembering her last school transfer. The bell rang, cutting her memory short. Digging around in her bag, Gem brought out her timetable to see what room her first class was in and proceded to make her way back inside. Or try to anyway. As predicted, ten minutes later Gem was lost in the halls again, her back up against some lockers as she wondered which route to try next.

Caelan grinned, happy she was up to it. Who knows, he may get somewhere... stowing that thought in the back of his mind, Caelan plucked the card out of the air, placed it in the deck, and kept shuffling. "Let's just play five-card draw." Caelan then began dealing the cards, knowing who got what. He gave himself the three of hearts, two of diamonds, ten of diamonds, ten of spades, and ten of clubs. He gave Serena a four of hearts, five of hearts, six of diamonds, two of clubs, and eight of spades. He picked up his cards, perfect poker face, and waited for Serena's move, seeing if she would exchange any cards.

Glancing at a nearby clock, Gem tugged her bag back onto her shoulder properly and started down the nearest turn, hoping to get somewhere this time. This room's math...that one's another math...that one is... she peered round the door into the empty room without a sign on the door, oo look, more math. Guess I know where I need to come later... Gem turned the next two lefts, taking a hallway that curved round, and ended up back at the same lockers from before. Are these even the same ones? This time, she didn't bother starting again and just sat against the nearest locker and practised with light.

Jackie walked down the hall toward her new room with a large, wheeled suitcase in each hand, a stuffed backpack on her back, and a blue, medium-sized bird on her shoulder. When she reached her destination, she struggled with the unfamiliar lock and key for a minute, then walked inside.
Her roommate had already been in. Her things were neatly placed on her side of the room. "Janice," Jackie said, "Do you remember what her name was?"
Victoria... something-or-other, the bird replied, although even if anyone else had been in the room, only Jackie would have been able to hear it.
She hardly had time to set her things down, let alone unpack, as she had her first class in just a few minutes. She leaned the suitcases up against the bed, unpacked a few unnecessary items from her overloaded backpack, and left the building.
"Well, I can probably talk to you in public here, but I still don't think they'll allow animals in class. See you later,"
Janice scoffed as she began to fly away. Like I'd want to go watch a human talk for hours on end, anyway! Later.
Jackie quickly walked towards the main campus.

"Well, " Mason started, her bottom lip quivering slightly. "This is it I guess." Mason and her twin brother Brandt stood in the hall between dorm room one and two, facing each other. This would be the first year they wouldn't be staying together in the same dorm. Mason thought of this moment as bittersweet. Sure, a new roommate meant a new friend usually, but when she roomed with Brandt, there wasn't any worry about how well you'd have to get along with a new person. It was just her brother. She hugged him swiftly, then let go, pushing her key into room two's lock. She opened the door to find an empty room. Her roommate must be coming later. She placed her duffel bag on the bed nearest the window and dug in to find her Biology work. She pulled out a textbook and a notebook, then air-lifted them in front of her, pushing them into the hall to meet with Brandt.
"Relax, Mase, it isn't like we'll never see each other again." Brandt said with a soft smile as his 6-minute-younger sister hugged him. "I'll see you during Biology in a few minutes, you dork." He turned toward his new dorm room and opened it to see that his roommate had come and gone already. He unloaded his things onto the empty bed and retrieved a notebook reserved for the year's Biology work, then met Mason in the hall to walk down together. He opened the door to find books floating mid-air, and placed his notebook on top of them. "Carry mine?" He asked sweetly, though a sarcastic smile slipped onto his face. He knew she would.

Turning a corner in math wing of the building, Jackie spied a curious light at the end of the otherwise-empty hall. She stopped to examine it from a distance, almost not even noticing that there was a purple-haired girl standing next to the light. "Huh," she muttered to herself, thinking I guess I should start getting used to things like this. Cool. She approached the girl. "Hey," she said quietly, "Do you know where the freshman biology room is?"
