"I guess..." Frowning, Gal played with a fold in her dress. "I made it worse for someone one time, but I didn't mean to." She shuddered a little at the memory of Merroth's dream. "I think there are a lot of cabbage kids on Gaia." She added, showing off a talent for stating the obvious. "This dream we're in. Do you like it? I mean, the way it usually goes?"

He shrugged. "Whether I like it or not, it doesn't do s**t for me if we water it down. I haven't sung since I grew, you know. And I know my voice's changed, but I won't know HOW it's changed until I actually sing. That's what the dream's about, that's how the cookie's swallowed. Doesn't mean anything if you try and make it happier."

"Doesn't do you any good if they throw things at you." Gal pointed out. "And then someone else comes and sings while you wont. I wasn't watering anything down. I just wanted to hear you." She shrugged. "Obviously if you've had the dream before and you still dont know how your voice has changed something isn't working." She added wryly.

He shrugged. "But that's up to me, in the real world, don't you think?" And that seemed to be his answer to that. He knew the problem, he knew the solution. He just hadn't gotten around to, or worked up the courage to solve it.

"Sure it is. But this isn't the real world, is it?" She shrugged. "I'll probably never even see you in the real world. Or if I do you wont recognize me. Does the dream do anything for you with people throwing things at you and then someone else coming in and singing?" She asked with bland curiosity.

"It pisses me off," he said a bit cheerfully. "That's a good way to make me do things. I figured after another night or two of this I'd wind up waking in the middle of the night and finding a soundproof room to see if I'm right."

"Huh." Said Gal, picking up a mushy tomato that someone had thrown at him earlier and chucking it at the back of his head. "So, does that help?" There was a faint smile twitching at the corner of her mouth.

He wiped it off, tossing it onto the stage and wiping the juice off of his fingers. "Who knows?" he said.
And woke up, feeling the strange desire to find a recording booth. He was sure they had one somewhere. Rory's grandparents were professional musicians, after all.
