Kashikoi listened patiently as she spoke, truly interested in what she had to say. Most of the words he'd heard since his seperation from his pack were conversations he happened to overhear. They were never directed at him as far as he knew, except for the occasional curse he got from a helix here and there.
"Well... I hope you enjoyed the chase." he said, meaning his words. Then, remembering what was close to him, he stood, ears perked in surprise. "Oh! Are you hungry?" he asked, backing away from what was left of the meal, his tail lowered. It shamed him to have forgotten himself in his moment of hunger. He should have let her feed first. She had caught the fawn in the first place, after all, and he wasn't even sure how much of the fawn was still left.

Sophie shook her head. "Actually, not right now. Though I could do with something to drink." She smiled despite herself. "Would you like to come too?" Her voice was so expectant and happy it would have been hard to hide it even if she'd wanted to. She doubted he would really want to hang out with her but it was worth a shot. fter all she wasn't going to give up her company willingly.

Kashikoi's ears slanted to the side as he thought over her words. He wasn't sure if they were the truth or a lie she said so that he wouldn't feel bad. He was sure it was a lie but even if he knew, what could he do? He couldn't hunt back the food he had taken. Not yet.
His ears twitched. Her question caught him unexpectedly. He had assumed that by that point, she would try to leave him as soon as he could, as the others had done. He had just made her hunt for him, taken all the food, was probably a miserable sight with a horrible stench, and didn't even have a social personality. "I... I'm not sure." he said. He could hea the eagerness in her voice but once more he was unsure on whether it was the truth or not.

Sophies ears went down slightly in dissapointment. "Oh, well, no its okay you don't have to if you don't want to." And once again her personality picked back up. "Just thought I'd offer. but I should probably let you go on your way. You probably have plans or something and I'm keeping you from them." Her eyes widened in this realization. "Oh! I am arent I? Oh I am so sorry! Oh..." Her ears lowered, how clueless could she be?! Couldn't she see from his distantness that he was trying to rid himself of her company, he probably had better things to do than to spend his time with a hyper, way too happy adult who acted like a puppy more often than most. Wich could be why she didn't really have any adult friends...or friends in general...She gave the ground a puzzling look.

Kashikoi was about to speak but then paused, thinking over her words. She believed him to be busy. He could agree and take the time to finally leave, back to his silence and lonely world. Back to days and nights of hunger and solitude. Back to the cold and the darkness.
Or he could stay. Just a little more. Pretend, for a few more moments, that his life hadn't taken an unexpected downward spiral after the invasion of his pack. The he had someone to talk to and wasn't as cut off from the world as he believed.
"No... no, I'm not busy. I'll come with you." he said, his voice firm and decided.

Sophie tilted her head. "You're sure?" Her blue eyes were questioning, but ofcourse he wouldn't know, he would know, by the sound of her voice though. She walked slowly twards the pond making sure she didn't go too far ahead of him.
Once at the puddle she took a few drinks, admiring her reflection in the water as she turned her head, she then looked back to Kashikoi.

"Yes." Kashikoi said, even nodding his head a little as he remembered himself doing as a pup. He followed her scent and the barely audible noises made by her paws and the soft swishing of her tail. She led the way out of the forest he had ended up in, back to their original location and when he heard the soft lapping of water, he nosed the ground curiously until his muzzle met with the cold liquid.
He licked it up greedily, his sated hunger paving way for thirst. He heard the water still to his side, signalling that Sophie had quenced her thirst but he could still feel her beside him and his tail flicked with curiosity at her gaze.

"Kashikoi..." Sophie didn't know how to ask without comming off rude and she didn't want to overstep the boundries set between them. She may be oblivious sometimes but there were clearly barriers around this helix and even if she was blind she'd see them. "I don't want to or wish to offend you in any way..." Her ears went down as she thought about the possibility that he might get angry...she didn't do well with conflict. "How...why can't you see?" It tumbled out of her mouth quickly and it'd be a miracle if he knew what she'd said. Maybe he didn't..theen he wouldn't yell at her or run away. She looked at her paws.

Kashikoi flickered his ears in Sophie's direction to show that he was listeneing. Her voice sounded uncertain and that worried him. Was she going to tell him she discovered poison in the waters? Or perhaps a swarm of enemies had suddenly appeared? He raised his nose and took a whiff of the air. Nope. It was still only the two of them.
He tried to turn his attention back to her, but it was hard when thoughts of danger prowled his mind. When she finally spoke, her words were blurted and at first, he couldn't make them out. But being blind had helped boost his hearing and his memory and he managed to discover what it was she said.
At first, he did nothing but sit by the water's edge and and run the tip of his tail over the water softly to create ripples. It was a quesntion he had not expected, since none he'd ever met since he was seperated from his sister had ever asked. Finally, he replied. "I cannot see because the light was taken from me." he said softly. All of his light, all of the things he considered precious, as he had said... they were gone. His former life, his sight, his friends, his family... his sister. All of them. Such despair filled him at the memory of all he had lost that he suddenly plunged himself back into the waters, as if they could tear away the pain from him as they did to the dirt on his pelt. Instinct told him to paddle his paws and so he did. Even without his sight, he managed to stay afloat, although he forced his head under the waters, as if that alone would clear his mind.

Sophie lowered her ears, a soft, "Oh," escaping her before she jumped at his sudden splashing. She had said the wrong thing. She overstepped the line that was drawn between them and now....was he drowning?!
Sophie gasped in horror. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Don't die! Please!" She ran out into the water and swam to the submerged helix and grabed his ruff to pull him out.

Kashikoi kept dipping his head in the water, pleased in the small moments when air reached his lungs and thoughts managed to form in his brain that his grief seemed to be subsiding, replaced with physical pain. The pain, in his opinion, was much easier to bear than the emotional one. He would have happily continued to drown himself if not for the sudden yank at his neck.
Memories assaulted him. His old life. His happy life. His father's fighting pack. The great battle. His lost sister. His lost light.
His mane, even soaked, started to bristle. His former pack had taught him to be strong physically but not as much emotionally, and the thoughts of his old life brought back the pain he had tried to chase away. His former training returned to him: to be swift of claws and fangs to one's enemy. And he felt that the one who had brought the pain back, and so, in a way, attacked him, was an enemy. Without thinking, his mind full of both greif and anger, he suddenly turned, surprisingly good with his paws, and lashed out with his glinting teeth on the one who had tugged on his fur.

Sophie let go of Kashikoi's scruff with a startled and painfull yelp when she felt Kashikoi bite into her shoulder. She wasn't one for pain and was feeling slightly betrayed, knowing he had just bit her. She flinched back from him, afraid that maybe he wasn't done and was going to bite her again. Blue eyes watched him apprehensivly and her ears were down close to her head, her body turned slightly, ready to run if she needed to.

Kashikoi's sensitive ears picked up on Sophie's yelp and he felt a shver of pleasure run down his spine. It had been a while since he had attacked anything to defend himself and felt warm, living flesh between his jaws. However, that feeling was soon lost when recognition flickered in his mind. Sophie.
Releasing her quickly, he paddled away some, far enough for her to feel safe but close enough for her to be able to hear the soft "Sorry." that passed through his lips. His ears flattened and all the will and emotions drew out of him, to be replaced in what could only be shame. Shame at what he'd some. Shame at himself, for what he let himself become. "I'm so sorry." he whispered, his voice cracking. He turned and swam until he felt wet mud beneath his paws, to spare himself the pain of listening to Sophie swim away. And then, he ran. He ran as quickly as he allowed himself, for fear of crashing into inanimate objects. It seemed he was still a coward.

Sophie didn't think she could have said any thing even if she wanted to. She just simply watched him go and, even though she wanted to tell him that it was her fault, she felt she couldn't. She was just glad at knowing he had gotten something to eat and there for maybe would feel better. She wasn't exactly sure how hard he had bit down, but her shoulder did throb and it made her wince when she did finaly put weight on it and it did make it bleed a little more. She frowned and contented to going and laying in the sun to lick her baisically self inflicted wounds.
( Finished? )
