Well its midnight, damn right We’re wound up too tight I gotta fist full of whiskey, the bottle just bit me That s**t makes me bat s**t crazy We got not fear no doubt all in balls out Were going out tonight To kick out every light Take anything we want Take everything in sight Were goin’ til the world stops turning While we burn it to the ground at night ~* Tickin’ like a time bomb. Drinkin’ til the nights gone. *~ Rayne laughted at the first question. "Albinism ain't a country or city or anythin like that, its some kinda rare mutation or whatever that makes a person be born with no coloration in their skin or hair and their eyes are usually pale." She looked at the woman, stunned by the beautiful shimmering blue eyes. They hadn't been blue before, had they? If not why'd they change?
"Nah, I aint in no trouble. I'm just a wierd orphan that has hundreds'a animal friends, and few human friends. Most people here know me as vampire, and seem ta think i'm a gods-honest vampire. Its all a load a rubbish, but I can't change peoples beliefs, so why bother worryin about it?" She grinned at the woman, noticing she seemed a little less wary of her.
"Name's Rayne, if you wanna know. These two're Dino 'n' Roxy, their the newest addition to my 'family'. She pets each on the head, in turn, as she introduces them. Roxy woofed happily at the woman, as if saying 'hullo'. Dino remained focused on the food, a drop of drool falling at his feet.
Rayne looked at the womans eyes again, they were kind eyes, not the eyes of a bad person. They felt sort of lonely, a loneliness that she knew, one that she felt all the time, even with her animal friends. "So, you come here to New York for any particular reason? Any kind a force drawing ya here? pullin ya to some kind a meetin place?" She asked suddenly, having felt mild tweaks telling her to go to new york, though she'd ignored it because she was already in New York. ~* Get your hands off of this glass. »»»»»»»»»» Mid afternoon, downtown Brooklyn street «««««««««« ___ Lui's face hardened, and she looked very intently into Rayne's eyes for a long time, measuring, searching. Then they flicked over to the vendor and his friends, still watching her and Rayne curiously. Then back to Rayne.
___ "No talk here," she said, quietly. Her eyes scanned the street, picking out an alleyway between two buildings where they would not be seen from the street. "There," she said, pointing with her chin to the alley, "Private. People no listen to us there." She stood up, off-handedly offering the last 2/3 of her hot dog to Dino. "I go there first," she nodded at a convenience store on the other side of the street, "Need stuff. You go wait for me. I just be one minute."
___ Liu crossed over to the other side of the street, and went into the convenience store. She moved quickly, because she didn't want to keep Rayne waiting for too long, but it took her a few moments to find what she needed. Once she had what she needed in her basket, she lined up to pay. She lowered her head to hide her eyes, and waited until the person in line ahead of her had paid and was just about to get her change... until just before the cashier closed the register.... »»»»»»»»»» F A S T___T I M E «««««««««« ___ The entire store was frozen in place - customers in mid-step, drops falling from a wet spot on one of the refrigerators - except for Liu. With no fuss, she stepped forward, reached across the counter, and into the open cash register, which the cashier was just in the process of closing. »»»»»»»»»» 1 «««««««««« ___ Liu reached into the open register, and lifted up the top layer of money, reaching for the bills underneath. »»»»»»»»»» 2 «««««««««« ___ She grabbed a handful of bills - large ones, which cashiers usually tuck at the bottom. »»»»»»»»»» 3 «««««««««« ___ She folded the top layer back down, leaving it looking pretty much untouched. »»»»»»»»»» 4 «««««««««« ___ She stepped back, taking her place in line again. »»»»»»»»»» R E A L___T I M E «««««««««« ___ The register drawer shut, and the cashier never noticed anything. Lui kept her eyes downward until the glow faded - not a problem because the cashier was not working particularly fast - and concentrated on controlling her breathing. It had only been less than a five second flash, so she didn't break a sweat or even end up panting, but it was habit for her to try and hide any signs of exertion after a flash, to avoid suspicion.
___ When she finally stepped forward with her basket of stuff, she paid with the money she had just taken from the register, and even had the gall to wait for change. Just before stepping out of the store, she opened several of the packages, inspecting what was inside, before dumping them back in the shopping bag. Then she left the store, and walked back across the road to the alley where she'd asked Rayne to wait.

She shrugged and motioned Roxy and Dino to follow her, heading for the mentioned alleway. She felt the flashstep as a prickling of the hair on her arms and legs. Dino and Roxy, on the other hand, seemed completely unaware of anything. ~* Get your hands off of this glass. »»»»»»»»»» Mid afternoon, downtown Brooklyn alley «««««««««« ___ Lui walked into the alley, seeing Rayne waiting there with the dogs as she had suggested. Perfect.
___ As she approached Rayne and the dogs she turned to look back over her shoulder, as if making sure they were really alone. But it was just a ruse. Lui was hiding her eyes....
___ When she turned back to look at Rayne, while reaching into her shopping bag, it was already too late.... »»»»»»»»»» F A S T___T I M E «««««««««« ___ The alley scene froze... but Liu sprung into motion quickly. She pulled a bicycle lock chain out of her bag - just letting the bag fall as she moved, and looped it around Dino's neck.... »»»»»»»»»» 1 «««««««««« ___ Liu looped the other end of the lock chain around a sewer grill that the dog was standing near. »»»»»»»»»» 2 «««««««««« ___ She secured the bicycle lock... leaving Dino chained by a makeshift leash to the sewer grill, with the chain short enough that the dog could not reach Rayne. »»»»»»»»»» 3 «««««««««« ___ She moved over to Roxy, dipping as she ran to yank the second chain out of the bag. »»»»»»»»»» 4 «««««««««« ___ She looped the second chain around Roxy's neck. »»»»»»»»»» 5 «««««««««« ___ She looped the other end of the second chain around the same grill that Dino was chained to. »»»»»»»»»» 6 «««««««««« ___ She fastened the second lock, leaving Roxy chained the same way Dino was - just out of reach of Rayne. »»»»»»»»»» 7 «««««««««« ___ She reached back into her shopping bag, pulling out a kitchen knife. »»»»»»»»»» 8 «««««««««« ___ She stepped around behind Rayne - out of reach of the dogs and with Rayne between them. »»»»»»»»»» 9 «««««««««« ___ She wrapped one arm around Rayne, around her upper arms, pinning them. With her other arm, she put the knife blade to Rayne's throat. »»»»»»»»»» R E A L___T I M E «««««««««« ___ Forced out of flash time by her limit, she gasped suddenly... right in Rayne's ear, when just a moment ago (for Rayne), she had been several paces away. The flash itself - although it was a full flash - did not exhaust her so much as her racing around to get everything done, but now she was panting and trying to catch her breath with her lips millimetres from Rayne's ear, and a knife blade to her throat.
___ From Rayne's perspective, Liu had been a few metres away, casually approaching while looking to see if they were alone and rummaging in her shopping bag... then immediately she was behind her with an arm around her, pinning her, and a knife to her throat, and her two dogs leashed out of reach to a sewer grill (although it would take the dogs a second or two to realize that).
___ Breathing heavily and speaking in a harsh whisper, Lui said, "Now... we talk...."

“Oh, grand,” Nica chirped, repeating Céilidh’s wording, “Thank you. Yes, I have a room at the Holiday Inn,” she charged on, chatting away while boarding the bus without bothering to see if conversation was welcome, “This is my first time in America, and everything is so much grander than it is back home. I have only been in the airport so far, and I have already spent half of my time in America lost. Are you two from New York? I want to find places in New York where people meet or gather. Is there a village square anywhere? I guess it would be pretty big to be the village square for all of New York, huh? So if New York is so big, how do you find what you are looking for in it? Is there anyone who knows where everything is? I am looking for some specific people, but I don’t know who they are or where they are. Where do I start?” ((I am sorry this is so short, but I had a ton of work today, and I had already kept you waiting all weekend! The next one will be longer, I promise!))

She glared forwards, not wanting to twist her neck around to look at Liu, because the knife could hurt if she did. She noticed some rats at the end of the alley and made eye contact with them.
Her violet eyes glow a deeper purple, as she whispers to them silently, "Help me, get her to release me if you can. Please." Out loud she said to Liu, "Well, isn't this a surprise. Miss Kung-fu also knows American ganster-fu. You really didn't need to do this you know." ~* Get your hands off of this glass. 𝒞́ℯ𝒾ℓ𝒾𝒹𝒽 𝒟́𝓊𝓇𝓁𝒶𝒾𝓃ℊℯ ᚛ᚉᚔᚐ᚜ ((Moving on...))
"I am not from New York," Céilidh admitted, taking a seat on the shuttle bus and hoping no one took the seat next to her, "It's my first time here, actually... New York, that is. I've been to maybe a half dozen US cities over the years on various business. But never here. So I'm a little lost myself."
Céilidh sat back in her seat and crossed her legs, all of her movements betraying excellent posture and control. "I would think," she mused, opening up a paper to read - with the hopes that it would signal to both the chatty African girl and the strange blind girl that she was not interested in coversation, "That most people that come to a city the size of New York looking for specific people already have an idea of where to look for those people before they even arrive. At least, an idea of where to start. Hoping to find someone in a city this big and this chaotic without knowing where to start is... pardon me for saying, Missy... doing things a little arseways."
"And I'm pretty sure that you're not going to find anything that looks like a town square here in the big Apple, Boss," she added, restraining a chuckle at the thought of it, "There's Central Park, I suppose, but, em...," she looked Nica over with one eye, "A qweer bit o' talent like you... would be eaten up alive in that place. Very dangerous it is, especially at night."
Céilidh was just about to immerse herself in her newspaper, ignoring everyone and everything else around her, when her conscience got the better of her, and she felt sorry for the lost young African woman. With a heavy sigh, she added: "Look.... If you can think of anything else you know about these people you're looking for... at least that would be a place to start, you follow? Where you from? South Africa? If they're from South Africa, too, there are places in cities like this where people from the same areas gather. When we get to the hotel, ask the desk where those places are. That should give you a start, right?"
And, satisfied that she'd done her good deed for the day in helping this lost soul from a distant land, Céilidh turned her attention to her paper. 𝒞́ℯ𝒾ℓ𝒾𝒹𝒽 𝒟́𝓊𝓇𝓁𝒶𝒾𝓃ℊℯ ᚛ᚉᚔᚐ᚜

»»»»»»»»»» Mid afternoon, downtown Brooklyn alley «««««««««« ___ "Maybe no," Liu said with a shrug, "But you know thing I want to know."
___ She squeezed Rayne a little tighter, just to show Rayne that she was serious. "What you mean when you say force?" she asked in a low, menacing voice, "You say, force draw me here. To meeting place. What is force? What is meeting place? What you do to me? I want answers!"
___ "What is symbol? What is music? What they mean?" Liu's voice got more intent and insistent as she interrogated Rayne, "You tell me now!"
___ "What you do to me? Why you pick me? What special about me? And why you bring me here? Why you make me want to come here? What is happen here? Who is meeting."
___ Liu pressed the point of the knife into Rayne's throat as hard as she could without breaking skin. "You give me answers. Now."

I didn't even know about any music, honest.
I don't know whats special about you, or about me. Also when I mentioned force, I merely meant what it was that made you decide to leave your home and come to America, to the 'Big Apple', itself, and not some other city.
I also don't know what's happening here, or who's meeting. Its probably supposed to be anyone who remembers the symbol and sound, or either one. I mean, if a deaf person remembered the image, they can't exactly remember a sound, right? and same for the blind, in reverse."

She managed to get a seat next to the energetic African woman. "Well, there IS Time square. Yeah, Central Park might be it too. Though, you don't need to rush. It'll still be a ways off, that meeting." She finished her sentance quietly, to herself mainly. She didn't want to let anything suspicious slip from her mouth, so she chose not to say any more, unless it was absolutely necessary. She said in answer to her question about where they were from. Nica frowned at the conflicting information she was getting. “I don’t know anything about them,” Nica admitted. She hated admitting ignorance, but there was little else she could do. Finding whatever it was she was being drawn to in New York City was not something she could do alone. She needed help, but she did not know how to ask for it. How do you tell complete strangers that you saw something no one else saw and are now being drawn by a feeling to something?
“So New York City does have a square... or two?” she considered the problem aloud, “But Central Park is too dangerous?” Nica scoffed, “A park, too dangerous for me? I’m a lot tougher than I look, you know! Do you have lions in Central Park? No you don’t! And I’m a lot tougher than a lion! Lions, they are afraid of Nica!” She pounded her chest with her fist to make her point.
“But what about Times Square?” she asked, directing her question at both strangers, in the hopes that at least one would give a useful answer, “I am sure I have heard of that place. Could I find somebody in Times Square?” She looked at the Irishwoman, pointing a challenging finger at her, “And don’t tell me that it is too dangerous! It may be too dangerous for you, but I am Nica. I will go wherever I have to go to find the people that called me.”

___ She stepped far back from Rayne... just in case Rayne had a little payback in mind. If Rayne could flash like she could, then Rayne to flash into fast time, kill Liu, and then flash out before Liu could even react. Fearing that, Liu was tense, and kept a close eye on Rayne.
___ "It happen to you, too?" she asked softly, "You see picture. You hear music. One day, everybody see picture and hear music, too, next day, poof. Nobody remember, but you. Same thing?"
___ She let the knife fall from her fingers to the alley pavement, and wrapped her arms around herself, as if hugging herself. "And now," she continued, with a quaver in her voice, "I hear voice in head, say same thing all time: 'Liu, go New York. Liu, go New York.' Ok, so I go!"
___ She looked Rayne over very carefully, "You first person I meet who know of symbol and music. You no have answers either?" Then she narrowed her eyes and cocked her head, "You can move fast? Like, very, very fast?"

𝒞́ℯ𝒾ℓ𝒾𝒹𝒽 𝒟́𝓊𝓇𝓁𝒶𝒾𝓃ℊℯ ᚛ᚉᚔᚐ᚜ Céilidh had intended to stay out of any further conversation, but her sense of civic duty overrode her desire to stay out of it. There was no way she could sit quietly back and let this misguided, lost immigrant wander around New York City blind - especially to places as dangerous as Central Park.
"Hang on there, love!" Céilidh spoke up irritably, butting in, "Don't be doing anything crazy like going into Central Park alone, especially at night. Lady, you may be murder in a skirt, but Central Park is one of the nastiest little jungles in the world. Lions don't carry guns, and they're not off their faces on PCP. I'm warning you, you go into Central Park, you're taking your life into your hands. Now you may be a blue-balled knacker, but what makes you think the people you're looking for are? Why would they be in Central Park? Wise up, hon!"
"Times Square is a bit of a daft idea, too, honey," she scoffed, turning back to her paper, "There are 20 million people in The Big Apple, and maybe 100,000 of them cross Times Square in a year. Not good odds, hon."
"Look," she sighed, "Bottom line, there are no easy answers. You gotta figure out what you're looking for a little better than just 'people'." 𝒞́ℯ𝒾ℓ𝒾𝒹𝒽 𝒟́𝓊𝓇𝓁𝒶𝒾𝓃ℊℯ ᚛ᚉᚔᚐ᚜

"Perhaps it has something to do with WHY you're here in America? WHY you came to New York?
If so, then you'll probably need to look for people with a similar purpose." She said, not giving anything away, though still sounding a bit knowledgeable on the whole matter. Rayne noticed that Liu still seemed cautious, as though expecting her to do something like what Liu had done.
"Yeah, something like that. The call to come to NYC weren't so demandin' as i'm already here, but I did hear a small noise that was probably sayin i had ta go to NYC. Nope, no anwsers. No, can't move fast. Can talk to animals, hear 'em and control 'em too.. to a certain extent."
She replied, turning her body so that she faced Roxy and Dino, but was still showing some of her face to Liu. She stood still, her eyes glowed deeper purple, and she sent a command to Roxy. Seconds later, Roxy obeyed, her ears laid down and she did a slight flip, looking comical because she had to be careful of the rope tieing her down. ~* Get your hands off of this glass.
