...Okay, so they were bigger, but at least she was getting respect. She would not hiss at them, because they were being good and respectful. Pleased by this, Arioth flipped her wings onto her back, rather than flaring them wide to appear bigger. Thank you Ailurath and Uktenath. I am Arioth.

Glancing down at an Arioth that seemed to have been neatly defused, Rinfala couldn't help but wonder just what Uktenath and the new green had said to her. Whatever it was, it had removed the orange from her eyes and added...was that a hint of blue? Shards, she'd have to ask Uktenath for his secret. "Thanks. It was wild out there, but I think she's settling."

J'ken ambled into the hall slowly, as relaxed as he possibly could, with Bayarth in tow behind him doing a much better job. Granted, the both of them looked and felt stressed by the entire ordeal, but J'ken had long since learned that simply fretting about an issue never solved the problem, and besides, this was supposed to be a celebration.

He looked around at all the stiff, withdrawn weyrlings. It was a celebration, right?

People forgot the happy part for celebrating, Bayarth said solemnly, looking around at his clutchmates and his partners. Maybe they'll remember soon? I want to forget the sad part now.

J'ken nodded, but alas, he felt rather helpless in this situation, the sea of only vaguely-familiar faces that never seemed to pull a name to memory. Nevertheless, these people were to be his wingmates, and he supposed that now was as good a time as ever to introduce himself to someone. In fact, he was going to march up to someone he'd never met before, and make friends, right...now.

Right after he ate, of course. Before he could muster up the stuff to talk to the new bronze rider in one of the corners, he turned entirely around, midstep, deciding that he hadn't eaten in ages, and that suddenly he was starved. He wasn't entirely sure what was coming over him, but he decided that he'd rather collect his thoughts over a place of nice, hot tubers. Wordlessly, he made himself a plate, sitting down at the edge of a table near where one of the new brownriders sat, talking to some girl. Bayarth sat beside him, carefully sniffing the oddities his rider hadchosen to eat.

I think I like my food better, if it's all the same, the young blue said, his nostrils flaring in distaste.

Shards, was there something written on the back of his bald head? Did it say something warranting all this attention? 'Hey, come bother me please! I really want to be hugged and apologized to right now!' Worse still was that either nothing was happening or everything was happening. M'rik's contact, though not all that welcomed by the more gruff young man, was understandable given their standing with one another. Doomed to be roommate's forever.

Before he could respond with the default 'thank you', someone else was there. Yelling at him. Why was everyone yelling at him?! She wasn't telling him to do this or that, just apologizing. It took B'lin one too many seconds in his exhausted state to realize what she was pleading for forgiveness about. By then, it was too late.

Xanthoth had been mid-sentence too, observing the most clumsy of brothers out of the corner of his eye. Yours is-- Whap! The bowl landed on his head, blinding the dragonet in a most embarrassing of ways. With a startled cry, more than loud enough to echo across the entire room, Xanthoth reared back, trying to shake the offending bowl off. He did, but in the process, some food fell to the floor.

It took only a few seconds and there was nothing anyone could have done. Grace was something he prided himself in, but it looked as though he had anything but when he slipped. Not once, but twice, the first time bumping head first into Nimwae. Following that, he toppled back and plowed right into his brother.

B'lin nearly fell into M'rik when Nimwae fell into him. There wasn't much time to make the decision, and he knew, no matter what, he was going to fall on one of them.

He decided Nimwae would be the best option, but after all was said and done and he was bolting back at a speed that would make a green blush, he had to question if he'd made the right choice. This... was not going to look good. He should have picked M'rik, he realized, because no one could assume anything about it considering he'd just Impressed a bronze.

Shards. This was not his week.

I don’t want to be here, Mine! Barely even an hour out of his shell, and Redhath was already finding his favorite phrase. The delicate-looking Blue picked his way elegantly into the Feast Hall, snorting contemptuously at it all. This is stupid! he announced to the world in general. Anyone who had the misfortune of being close would almost certainly hear the Blue’s thoughts.

“Redhath…” M’al said wearily. It was too late for this sort of thing. Fardles, it was so late that it was technically early the next day! He didn’t even want to think about the next day, not after being almost eaten by an angry Queen.

She would not have eaten you! She would never eat you! You’re MINE! Redhath snarled a little at the idea of anyone harming His, but he composed himself quickly. Now was not the time to be so unseemly. Now was the time to… uhh… the Blue dragonet paused and looked up at M’al with worry in his eyes. Mine, what are we supposed to be doing? Do we still have to be here? I don’t like it here. People are staring at me.

“Well, you’re very pretty. Get used to it.” Oh, hey! Food. M’al wasn’t the sort to drown his sorrows in anything, but he certainly was hungry right about now. He slowly sidled up to one of the tables laden with food and snagged himself a plate. Well, it was time to be social. Or at least try to forget about that poor little Blue that went between…

Mine, you’re giving me another sad! Redhath said warningly.

At the nearly infamous screech of the new queen dragonet, Weiwin scribbled something on a piece of hide placed neatly next to her plate, which, of course, had no food on it. She glanced around the room, making note of something which she quickly scribbled down. She seemed content where she was in the packed hall sitting tall in the subdued cloth wrapped around her body, unabashedly watching Weyrlings and Candidates alike.

It had definitely been a long day, and while E'si had contemplated retiring for the evening, he knew he'd appreciated a few congratulations and the like when he had Impressed (though he and Miith had mostly kept to themselves, there were too many girls and Miith was quite vehement about not being forced to spend time with them). Anont... or whatever he was going to call himself now, had Impressed too, and E'si couldn't not take the opportunity to congratulate and then torment the new Weyrling. So here he was, at the Hatching Feast, reminiscing a little to himself about when it had been for him and Miith.

It wasn't too different, actually. E'si found a spot at one of the tables, not talking to the person next to him (because he was, quite frankly, a hideous excuse for a human being, and E'si hoped that he wasn't a Candidate, because any dragonet would be unfortunate to make the mistake of picking him). He wondered briefly if Kyllae would dare to show her face, because he personally would LOVE to get the chance to say 'hello' to her. He leaned back from the table, icy blue eyes scanning the area for any signs of the unfortunate Candidate.

No?

What a shame.

Would you like me to go looking around for her for you? I don't like girls, and she is bad even for a girl. There was only a slighty sweet tint to Miith's voice, and E'si couldn't help but smile fondly. There were just a whole bunch of reasons why he loved his still-growing dragon. She knew exactly what would make him happy.

No, darling, thank you. I'd be surprised if she stayed here at the Weyr, since we all know the Hatching's incidents were her fault.

Well met, Arioth. You have done very well, Uktenath informed her. Yours is a very good one. In his own opinion, in fact, one of the best that she could have chosen. The Queen might have been a bit odd at a first glance, but the truth was that there must be something good about her, to have seen the potential in Rinfala - it was a comforting thought, at least, and one that helped Uktenath to see Arioth more in the light that a gold was supposed to be seen in.

"Good to see you, Jessmet!" O'asis greeted the greenrider as she approached. It occurred to him that he wasn't sure if Jessmet and Rinfala had met before - shards, but they must have, right? Just to be safe, though, he offered out, "Jess, you've met Rinfala before, haven't you?," properly covering the social courtesies.

His emotions had finally been reigned in for the Hatching feast, and A'nt walked in, trying to look at least a smidgen more confident than he actually felt. It wasn't that he wasn't proud of Matsukazeth- Shards no! More than anything, he adored the little Brown. It was just the thought of the blue still haunted him, as much as he'd joked with A'bri that he was alright. Thankfully the other Weyrling had taken it well, and run with it- he'd definitely be crawling in here in shame, had it not gone over well. Not to mention how many people were probably looking for him... as reassuring as that might've been to others, A'nt's stomach lurched at the thought.

You should be proud to see your friends, Mine! You are strong, and tall, and Yours is just as much so! We are a... handsome pair! The dragonet finished, humming with pride in his bonded's direction. A'nt flustered very slightly at this, turning to give Matsukazeth a disbelieving look.

I'm glad at least one of us is confident. I'm still worried about that B-

DON'T! You have more important things to worry on, Mine. Your own problems! Mine needs to eat now, or Yours will be forced to feed you!

...Well, that thought shut him up. Grumbling under his breath, though he still had the hint of a smirk on his face at the Brown, A'nt shook his head with a quiet sigh. That'd be just what they needed- a dragonet trying to feed its rider. Taking an open seat while they still were available, the new Weyrling took a moment to look around for anybody he knew. Hopefully, there'd be a moment of peace before people started talking to him.

Or, you know. Matsukazeth forced him out into the masses.

Only for your own good, Mine!

Terisa had slipped back to the candidate's barracks to change out of her robes before the feast. She didn't much feel like any more of the sympathetic half smiles that those still left as candidates received at these sorts of things. No, it would be much more pleasant to simply blend in with the crowd and take advantage of the large amounts of food before calling it a night. Perhaps with her roommates at the feast she'd be able to do some weaving in peace after dinner.... She couldn't recall if she'd seen her roommates impressing, she hadn't really been paying attention after all, since she mostly kept her head down around them. The close quarters made everyone on edge, and she would be relieved if at least one of her roommates had impressed, so that no one had to sleep on a bedroll on the floor anymore....

Pushing those thoughts away and trying to make herself a little more cheerful, Terisa adjusted her tunic slightly and then stepped around the corner to enter the dining area. No one really paid much attention to her, since now she simply resembled another weyrbrat, and so she easily made her way to the food and was able to pile her plate high. Settling down at an out of the way table, she dug into her plate, quite hungry from the emotionally draining night.

((if anyone wants to interact with her, shoot me a pm since otherwise I'll miss it))

Mine... That is someone you know, he Impressed today... Ianquith ventured softly, her gaze somewhat nervous as it settled on the striking blue and then dropped to her feet. But she was already starting to shuffle forward, knowing what Hers would want, and also knowing it would be entirely too rude for her to completely ignore one of the new dragons of the Weyr.

"Mal! Or whatever you're calling yourself, you wherry! Shards, he's beautiful, congratulations! Bet Aeron will be delighted, eh?" He grinned and reached to clap his friend on the back, trying not to dwell on the fact that this was the same little blue that swiped at Jessan. Unfortunately, his cousin had gotten too close, but it could have been much worse.

H-Hello... I am Ianquith, I am glad to meet you. The larger green said anxiously to the other, her eyes whirling some. Mine is very fond of Yours, and so I am glad you found Him....

Jessmet thought a moment. She and Rinfala had never been officially introduced, but she did recognize the girl.

Uktenath says she is good, Ailurath piped up. The greenrider smiled at this vote of confidence.

"I believe so," she said aloud. "I'm sure we'll get to know each other better now, in any case. Who else Impressed? I missed some of them." Jessmet's voice trailed off momentarily. She had missed some of the hatchlings finding their mates because she had been comforting Ailurath. Avoiding that particular subject was rather like not mentioning the dragon in the room.

Recovering from the shock of partly colliding with the table, Lernaeth was then met with an entirely different shock. That food, it was on the head of the bronze who had just found His! Her eyes swirling to a dim yellow after the younger dragon screeched, the green folded her wings close to her and slunk to hide behind Nimwae after B'lin had set her down. The short, skinny girl did little to hid the dragon, and Lernaeth knew it. Looking at first at the bronze, then also at the nearby blue, she crooned softly: I am sorry! Really, really! I just wanted to reach the table before the fat man because Mine is sad and I do not want Mine to be sad. She bowed her head slightly, ashamed at her actions. The bowl was still where it had fallen, most of its contents spilled on the floor around it. Hmm. Reaching out with an arm, she flipped the bowl over and peered at the small smearing of tubers stuck to its sides. There is still some left if you are hungry, Mine.

Stumbling as the bronze knocked into her, Nimwae was surprised to be caught by B'lin. Maybe she wasn't dead after all. Righting herself, she grimaced and wrung her hands together worriedly as Lernaeth slunk behind her. Smiling hesitantly at B'lin and M'rik, she said, "Oh, I'm sorry! Is everyone all right? I hope she didn't hurt anyon-" She was cut off by Lernaeth's question, and stared silently, open-mouthed at the green for a moment. Her dragon was sharding insane. "Um. Thank you for catching me," she added as something of an afterthought to B'lin.

Sensing that Nimwae did not indeed want the food, Lernaeth gave as close to a dragonfrown as she could. Leaning closer to the bowl, she sniffed it before nudging the bowl and flipping it onto her own head. Now we can have- what did the humans call them? haps! The humans wear these, except they usually do not have food in them. She peered at the bronze under the rim of the "hat." It wasn't so bad, really!

Yes, Nimwae thought, her dragon was sharding insane.

Yes, Arioth affirmed firmly, her eyes becoming bluer and bluer at the mention of Hers. Mine is very good and very strong. Many of the others were not strong, so I had to look for a long time. With a draconic frown, she added, A very long time. And Varth yelled at me. Nevermind that she'd been yelling right back. She would ignore that part.

"I think so, yeah," Rinfala nodded, glancing over at Jessmet. The name faintly rang a bell, and she remembered her green somewhat. A kind, gentle green preceding the one that had sliced open her legs. At the thought, Arioth shuffled uneasily. "Easy, Ari. I'm not hurt now. It happened a long time ago."

Today was the day! Inaari had rushed back to the barracks with Eponath, the green's little wings affording her some privacy as she had changed into the creation she'd slaved over since the Gather. It was similar to the design of all the "Vera dresses" the blond had admired, and the rich blue fabric made it come alive. The top came to just below her ample hips, thickly embroidered with white and golden-colored threads in geometric designs. A semi-sheer wrap in a paler ocean blue shade had been modified to attach as sleeves, drifting down towards her wrists, baring some of that pale freckled flesh she hid so often. In contrast, the full skirt was simply yards and yards of that glorious blue silk, drifting to the floor in a cloud of pure blue.

Turning for her dragon, she looked down at it worriedly. While the neckline was high, and she had no assets whatsoever to show, the new greenrider was absurdly nervous. "Do you think they will like us together, Eponath?" It does not matter, you are Mine! And you are very pretty, do not be silly! Impatiently, the green started to wander out of the room. There was no one here for her to see, no one to meet! She wanted to see and do everything! Come on, Inaarimine! We have to go! Quickly, the girl followed her new partner. Ryka would be returned to her at the Feast as well, and seeing the two interact would be something to see for sure!

Also, her friends would be there! They would have to admire Eponath, and that would charm the little green straight into a joyful bliss. Entering the Cavern, two pairs of eyes eagerly surveyed the festivities. They were not quite as festive as other times, with the pall of the accident hanging over the place. But for the two of them, it was perfect! It was THEIR hatching feast, and they would enjoy every moment!

Mine? I would like to see the others, may we go? S'van, whose eyes were suspiciously red, was pouring over a last little bit of something for the Feast. Miiiine, Uktenath's will be at the Feast! You have said you will have words with him. You cannot have words if you do not go. Finally drawn out of his fussing in the kitchen by that, the Weyrling handed off his task to a kitchen girl. "Stir this, and mind that you don't burn it!" Leaving his latest concoction (that had been carefully watched over by Mirelle of course) in her care, he gave her a stern look... or tried... and left to meet his dragon in the Weyrbowl.

"Galliath... you know, you're getting a little big to be going to celebrations," he said wearily, not at all feeling the excitement he had after the previous Hatching. I will watch, Galliath countered, landing to observe the rigmarole. If S'van trudged a little as he walked toward his dragon, it was for reasons that were obvious, and shared. He put his hand up, and Gall pressed his cheek against it carefully. The Brown was growing rather well, lately, and he would soon be adult, in S'van's estimation. You should go be with your friends, S'van. For the moment, S'van did not agree.
