A Wandering Esper

Beloved Stargazer

Poor Adi. If only she knew what she just asked ! The question left Elik silent for a moment, clearly struggling to recall. With so many memories, sometimes it was hard to find exactly what he was looking for.

"I'd say about a week before I first managed it ? I was a late bloomer." Perhaps ironic that he ended up being so good at something that first gave him so much trouble. "Maybe... Hm. It took a few months at least before I could do it reliably."

"That's a long time!" Adi frowned, opening her eyes now. The little things she'd learned before had been more or less immediate, so that something would take a week was pretty surprising. "Did you have to sit and think about it the whole week before it happened?"

How could anyone sit still and concentrate for that long? Her legs really would fall asleep, not to mention she'd be starving!

What kind of question was that ? Oh, Adrienne. "No, no." He said, smiling. "A few hours each day. It's still a long time when you feel you're not getting anywhere, I know."

He'd had that aspect to him once, that youthful exuberance, through time had finally worn it down to the calm patience Elik was now showing his new-found pupil.

"Oh, good. That would've been awful." Adi breathed a sigh of relief and closed her eyes again...and then promptly opened one. "This isn't too boring, is it? Watching me sit's probably not very exciting."

"Oh, no, Don't worry. It's quite relaxing." Really, it was, even if he forced himself to remain alert, just in case something did, in fact, happen. The breeze was warm and the grass soft, and he was in good company. Nothing he could really complain about, even if he'd tried.

Living for so long made you quite patient.

Reassured - and somewhat pleased - that Elik wouldn't get tired of watching her sit and think, Adi shut her eyes and kept them shut. The two hours that followed were uneventful, to say the least. Other than the not infrequent shifting of position and the occasional itch-scratching, not a thing happened. Her legs did start to tingle, but she was relatively certain that was because they actually did fall asleep, not because something mystical was happening.

Finally, the silence was broken by a rumble: the rumble of her stomach! She opened her eyes with a sheepish giggle. "Sorry. I'm...kinda hungry."

A lot hungry, actually.

When it seemed obvious that the likeliness of complete success was low, Elik did allow some of his guard to drop, some muscles to untense, through he did remain alert, taking in the noise of the wind ruffling through the leaves, the chirp of birds...

And the rumble of an hungry belly. He couldn't help it - he laughed. "Come on, you've done enough for now. Let's find something before you devour yourself from within, hmmm ?"

"Next time I'll eat first. A little, anyway. It wouldn't be very good if I fell asleep, either." That actually might be more embarrassing than rumbly tummy.

The young woman stood and stretched, shaking her legs one at a time. They had very definitely fallen asleep, and waking them back up always hurt a little bit. It was a weird sensation.

"Now we have to catch something, or I might starve," she joked.

"Well, we certainly do not want that to happen, don't we ?" Really, he doubted Adi was about to kneel over from starvation anytime soon, but he was quick to follow and amuse her, as he always was.

He rose as well from his crouch, but didn't seem to have the 'legs-asleep' problem - given that he had allowed himself some movement in the last two hours, unlike her.

"Let me know when you're ready ?"

"It would be terrible," she lamented comically, "I still have so much to do! I can't starve to death first." That much, at least, was true. She probably even had things to do she hadn't even thought of doing yet, as she was focused on a select few that happened to take up a lot of her attention and time...in a good way.

"Ready!" Her paws were still a little tingly, but that would go away the more she walked on them.

"Alright then." He nodded and started walking again, not shifting quite just yet. He wasn't even sure if he even should at this point - would Adi feel like if he was rubbing her failed attempt in her face if he did ?

Uhhhh. This was why he didn't make a good teacher. He had no idea ! He also pretty much had no idea how to properly hunt as himself, either.

Fortunately for Elik, Adi soon solved the problem by asking, "Aren't you going to change?"

Sure, she was a little disappointed that she hadn't turned out to be a shape-shifting prodigy and done it on her first attempt, but that didn't mean she didn't want to see Elik do it! Besides, maybe seeing it would help somehow? Either way, watching never got old.

...Or maybe not ! Augh. "I probably should." Maybe he could just pretend it had slipped his mind ? Maybe,

And so he did indeed change, through sadly he lacked a way to slow it down for Adi to watch and decode more properly. That might have actually helped.

But now he stopped, and sniffed the air. Easier to find prey that way~ !

Yep, totally as cool as ever! But it did remind her of one question that had been at the back of her mind since she'd first seen Elik change, from cat back to man. "What happens to your clothes when you do that?"

She'd once thought that they fell off, since that was what had happened when Illisia had turned into a bird, but Elik seemed somehow able to keep his clothes, which was a tiny bit of a disappointment. Was it just part of being really good at shapeshifting?

((You just want to see him naked, Adi. 8V))

...What a silly question ! Still... "Im not actually sure." He said, laughing. "It comes with practice, really. Before that, you just get clothing all over the place." See Illisia, really.

Ah... ! There was something ! Muzzle planted on the ground, Elik started to follow the trail, much like an hunting dog.
