The stallion could, but who was he to argue the quirks of another sort of artist? He chuckled. Still made him curious, though. "Are you ever happy with it? Nothing's perfect."

In fact, his favorite saying had long been "imperfectly perfect". Korusi had never once made what he would call "perfection" with his paints, and although he did manage to please himself greatly more than once, it seemed more by luck rather than the skill he wished for. But that was enough for him. It would be very boring eventually if he didn't have his muse whispering images in his mind that were impossible yet impossible to resist.

Tiffany raised her eyebrows, and then stared. "You must be kidding" she said, her voice with a bit of an edge to it, and she laughed. "Seriously? I am completely happy with it. How could I be unhappy? In fact, I've only really been sad a few times before in my life, and that was others' faults" she said, smiling.

Of course, what exactly made her happy? She didn't enjoy all the primping. Well, occasionally she did. But it got boring. She enjoyed looking at herself. That made her happy. Yes, that was it. The only thing that could possibly make her happy was herself. So what was this stallion driving at?

"And of course some things are perfect. Like me" she said, tilting her head. "Can't you tell? Perfection is a rare thing, and only shows up occasionally. You see, you are lucky to have met me. Because I am the picture of perfection. If you can't see that..." she paused. "Then perhaps you aren't worth my time?"

That slight shake in the lilt of her voice was speaking different words to him altogether, so it was easy to dismiss the surprise of the haughty declaration with a flick of his ear and the same warm smile.

"I can see it...." he nodded.

Well, only in part. Her need to be her ideal of perfect seemed anything but perfect, to him. It was one thing to enjoy a challenge....another thing altogether to be chained to it. It seemed they were both being convinced the more she spoke.

She must have been made sad more times than she was willing to admit. He wondered at the ones she did confess.

He saw it, without a doubt, but he suspected she didn't. And he found himself wanting to see more.

"But don't you ever let your hair down?"

"Good" she said, feeling reassured once again that this stallion was not a complete idiot. Then again, he did seem a bit slow on the uptake. Perhaps he was only a partial idiot?

She shivered, that look again. He needed to stop...looking at her. It was like he was trying to see her in a more...raw way? To look past the beauty? But she knew that was impossible. Tiffany knew, that the further you got down, you only got to more and more beauty. So he couldn't possibly see through her. Simply Impossible.

"Let my hair down?" she asked, feeling the tightness in her bun-type clod on the top of her head, held together with flowers? "Once, with one of my friends. But he..." she stopped for a moment. "He ended up being a jerk. But he apologized, so I suppose we are friends" she said, then thinking of what that sentenced sounded. "We were just friends. In fact, it was the whole...stupid mating thing that made us not friends anymore. He would be acting as if he wanted to be my mate, then when I mentioned it, he said it was just for fun. Which I TOTALLY don't understand" she raved. Tiffany still didn't understand.

Aha. Not so perfect after all. He nodded sympathetically to that. "It isn't always good to only be looked at from the outside, is it?"

He was no stranger to that bit of knowledge. Another place, another time, his curving horn had earned him more admiration and animosity than he would waste time remembering. It gave him enough practice with his paints and dreams, but he could not fool himself for long by thinking his arts were the only companions he wanted. His creations understood him better than anything else, but they were a mirror.

So he travelled, and he saw many things he did not have the spirit to seek before. And now....now, looking at the mare, he saw another reflection, yet not.

Perfectly imperfect. He smiled a bit brighter.

"I prefer the inside."

"Well..." she said. Here comes the thinking again. Tiffany was beginning to get a headache. "I think both should be considered. I mean, I spend SO much time on my looks, I think others should appreciate that" she said, trying to string her thoughts into words. "But I'm perfect on the inside too. I'm nice, and I always tell others how to better themselves. But sometimes they get angry" she said, satisfied. Didn't he see that she was perfect on the inside as well?

"Well, if you prefer the inside, it doesn't matter. Because I think the outside reflects the inside a lot. Like if some stupid mare is all disgusting, she is probably mean. If someone takes care of themselves, they are probably good Soquili. That is just...you know. The way it is"

She got up, and carefully shook off the petals, watching them fall to the ground. "Why are you asking so many questions, anyway? This is starting to confuse me" she complained. Thinking about why she did things...it wasn't something she enjoyed. Often she saw it as a simply straight forward thing: It was what she thought, it must be right! Explain it? No need!

"I guess because I like the inside best." he chuckled. "Don't worry about it. Though...." he couldn't resist the teasing, "....I think you'd be the same if you let your hair down once in a while."

Tiffany sighed, this stallion was missing the point! "But if I let my hair down, it would make my inside worst, because it would show I didn't care" she said, rather frustrated. Some soquili were just SO thick, you couldn't get through to them.

"My turn" she said, deciding to beat this stallion at his own game. "Why do you like thin inside better so much? And WHY are you making me think so much?" She asked, feeling satisfied that she had managed to think up a few questions, however random they were. Well, they DID pertain to the situation, but they certainly weren't the most analyzing questions.

Not quite a reflection. His grin broadened, impishly challenging her disapproving frown. "For the first, because the outside can hide a lot of things even more beautiful. Or horrible." The wind was gracing his own mane with some of the offending tree's petals. They smelled wonderful. "Grooming isn't all there is to life....right?"

In that question, with this mare, he honestly couldn't so much as guess how she might answer. It sounded as though it was her end-all and be-all.

He was certain it was otherwise, though. He knew from long experience there were no pretty pictures that were just pretty. He could tell his eager curiosity was figuratively killing the cat, but questions seemed to be the only way to turn the conversation from the obvious.

You are beautiful, he chuckled inwardly at the thought. I got that picture. Show me more.

"As for the second...." he couldn't help himself, he tossed her a playful wink from beneath his careless forelocks. "A perfect brain does a lot of thinking. Otherwise, wouldn't it be stupid too?"

Tiffany looked upward, the trees seemed to go higher and higher forever, a pink blur in the sky. Must he answer HER questions with more questions? She couldn't seem to get a straight-forward answer out of this stallion. It was like he wanted to get into her mind, but there was something about him that she just couldn't pin. And she hated that feeling.

"No...it isn't..." she said, wondering if she was supposed to elaborate. There WAS more to life then grooming. But what? "I spend half the day making myself pretty. The other half I keep myself pretty." she said, unsure what else to say. Why did she go through all that, anyway? "It makes other Soquili happy...to know there is still beauty in the world" There. That sounded right. Was it true? Of course, it had to be!

She looked back down, meeting his eyes. "I guess. But why must you answer all my questions with more?" she said, trying to figure this whole thing out. She had known this stallion for what, half an hour? And they weren't yelling at each other yet. But still, he was starting to make her head hurt. That certainly was a first.

"Now you tell ME, Korusi" she said, not realizing that what she said rhymed. "What do YOU do. What is there to life for you? I mean, I see you at least make an attempt to make yourself look nice. But seriously. What do you do all the time that makes you so good at asking all these annoying questions?" she asked, trying her best to figure him out.

"I think." he replied impishly, beaming at the reluctant compliment she paid nonetheless. Truth be told, though, he did little to keep his outside beautiful. There were more important things on the inside to groom. More often than not, it was up to Tewa to scold him to the stream or worry the tangles from his mane.

But what higher praise to be almost perfect?

He found himself trailing appreciative eyes along the mare's own mane, then. The golden green light from the leaves above made the most of her naturally sunlit curls. He finally met her eyes again at last, and got the distinct feeling that answer was a little too short.

"And I dream." he offered, smile taking a lopsided turn. "I could show you...."

Tiffany tilted her head. Think? Think!? Who THINKS all day. That couldn't be THAT interesting. Tiffany could hardly think for ten minutes, let alone doing it as entertainment. What a silly thing to do. How stupid.

"Well that sounds HORRENDOUSLY boring!" she said, flicking her mane a bit. "It hardly seems entertaining. I mean, I guess I can thinking about SOME stuff for a bit. Like hair. Or how I will get around a particularly difficult mud puddle. But all day? I would get a headache" she said, closing her bright green eyes for a moment before opening them again, and meeting his.

She felt them bore into her again, and felt oddly revealed. The feeling was beginning to settle and not be so...weird. She saw the playful glint in his eyes, and very nearly let a smile play across her lips, an unpracticed one.

However, she was FAR too lady like to let such a thing happen.

"Show me?" she asked. How silly...show...a dream? Tiffany didn't have many dreams. Usually it was just her alone, by a stream and washing, or such things like that. If he REALLY wanted to see her bathing rituals, he could, but she wasn't sure why he would want to show her his dreams.

But whatever, she had nothing better to do. "Sure"
