"Most of the dragons I've met are full dragons... But up at the Keep there's all sorts of everything." He laughed once more, trying not to seem so awkward. "Of course, I'd give almost anything for wings. That sort of freedom is something that can't be replaced. Soaring through the air on your own instead of relying on someone else?"
He glanced at Bronnie for a moment before looking back at the shelf. "I wouldn't have known if Nodel hadn't told me... She's not exactly forthcoming with information unless she's asked about it and, even then, it's a chore. I asked why I had horns when I was younger." He smiled softly. "It's good to know where you come from."

Bronnie glanced back at her own wings, and smiled self-consciously. "I don't know. They do tend to get in the way, sometimes, but I probably wouldn't give them up." She flexed them slightly, and then folded them tight against her back again.
"But. Wait. You wouldn't have... known?" For a moment, she was openly confused, trying to fit this in with her own worldview. Abruptly, she realised that he would almost have to be a different sort of dragon than herself, and gave an embarrassed cough. "I suppose that wasn't even an option for me. I didn't even look remotely human when I was little."

"I wish that I hadn't... Especially if that would mean fewer embarassing photographs for Nodel to show off to anyone I bring home." He laughed, brushing his fingers through his hair out of nervous habit once more. "Actually... I doubt I'd change anything about my childhood. Everything that happened went into making me who I am today and, had one thing changed... Who knows what else would've, y'know?"

"I don't know," Bronnie said doubtfully. "There are a few things I'd like to do over, but I don't supposed I'll ever have the chance to do it."
She paused, biting her knuckle self-consciously, then ploughed ahead, blushing furiously. "I guess this really isn't the best place to talk. There's a cafe just down the street, if you're interested? I mean, if you're not going anywhere?"

"I'm not expected to be anywhere until later on this evening for dinner with Nodel... And somewhere in between now and then I suppose I should find Drii..." Although it would serve her right if he left her here to find her own way home. She was the one who wandered off in the first place...
"Sounds wonderful." He could come back here sometime afterwards to look around a bit further... He still had a few things to pick up before heading back to the Keep. It was never a good idea to return without gifts of some sort.

"Great!" Bronwen beamed widely, her tail twitching slightly. "It's a really great little place, I promise. One of my favourites. And it's not far at all."
She moved towards the door, glancing back to see if Keith was following.

"I'll take your word for it." He chuckled as he followed after her, making certain to watch out for her tail as he did so. He had, when younger, tripped over Nodel's several times and learned from it. "I don't mind a little walk."

Once out on the street, Bronnie clutched her purse against her side, her wings still folded tightly against her back, as though trying to take up as little room as possible, to appear as "normal" as it was possible for her to do so.
"I have to ask," she said suddenly. "Do you shapeshift at all? I've never been very good at it..."

He had grown up in a household with a dragon and an elf for mothers along with siblings that ranged from bunny girl to wolf boy to Jivvin to Fa'e. Nothing in the world of Gaia was 'normal' unless it was somehow 'abnormal'. Eccentric and odd were 'in'.
"Shapeshift?" He shook his head slowly. "I've been told that's something that comes with age in my family. Ja'reth, Nodel's brother, just started to learn how to... He's miserable at it."

"I don't think I've ever gotten used to that," Bronnie mused. "Someone says something about dragons, and I think it must be like my family, but it's not. They're a completely different type of dragon. I always forget."
At this point, a scruffy raven dropped down from the roofs and landed heavily on her shoulder, looking as sulky and annoyed as a bird possibly could; it had, after all, almost been left behind when it had been distracted by something or other while it had waited for her to come out of the shop. Bronwen scratched its head absently; it nipped at her fingers.
