It was morning. Time to pack up and move on.

Nilla set Rayde's box in her lap and opened it. Inside was a handgun. It was an M1911, a single-action, semi-automatic, magazine-fed, recoil-operated handgun chambered for a .45 ACP cartridge. Of course, Nilla didn't know that. To her, it was just a handgun. She took it and slipped it into the waistband of her gray slacks. She didn't know the first thing about handguns, but she'd have to learn if she wanted to survive in this world, and she'd have to learn quickly. She shut the box, picked it up, and walked out into the parking lot with it under her arm. Her feet were still bare, poking out the bottoms of her pant legs, but she liked it that way.

Outside, Rayde, Charlie, and Shane were preparing to leave. Nilla put Rayde's box back under the seat where she'd found it, then sat down, hugging her knees to her chest. As Rayde was helping Shane with a wound on his back, a message came in over the jeep's radio. "Once again, this is Andre Luda from the old 107.1 broadcast station, on all frequencies all day long," a voice said, "If you get this message, let me know." Some music followed the message, but Nilla didn't recognize it. "Rayde!" she called, "Come here, quick! There's someone on the radio!"

Rayde ran for the jeep, knocking her brother and Shane out of the way, and picked up the microphone. "Andre Lude, this is Rayde, currently roadside on our way to San Fransisco," she said, "Where are you and what's your status? Oh, and keep the tunes coming, man!"

A moment later, another survivor, Mark, approached, asking if they needed a hand. He was wearing desert camouflage BDUs and full face protection. He looked more than a little frightening, but he seemed friendly enough. There was a crow on his shoulder looking off into the distance.

There were 5 of them now: Rayde, Charlie, Shane, Mark, and herself. Rayde decided to hotwire an SUV. Rayde, Shane, and herself would continue on in the jeep while Charlie and Mark would take the SUV. They were about to set out when the jeep broke down. "Hell no!" Rayde shouted, "Not my goddamn jeep!" Rayde got out and checked the engine. Apparently, a stray bullet had pierced a few of the pipes and broken a couple of belts. They would need to be replaced.

Rayde ran into the building while the rest of them waited outside. She returned about 15 minutes later with the necessary parts. She set to work on the jeep while the others acted as sentinels, watching, waiting. Nilla wasn't quite sure what to do. She'd just woken up to this world, so she wasn't sure what to look for. And yet, she knew that something was coming. She could feel it in the air.

Instinctively, she reached for the handgun in her waistband. She grabbed it.

Rayde finished withe the tensioner and noticed a couple wires the were cut, she quick pulled out her gerber and spliced them. She slid her way out from underneath the Jeep and shouted "Alright we're good to go!" She lloked around and everything was silent, she tried to see what everyone was staring at when her gaze came across a massive hordeclimbing out of the building. She jumped in the driver's seat and said to Shane and Nilla, hurry up and get in, we haven't got all day" She fired up the Jeep and gave her brother and Mark a thumbs up saying they were ready to get the hell out of there before a whole sea of undead overtook the survivors where they stood.

Jumping in the SUV Mark pulled up behind the jeep. "Good to go!"

Shane Leapt into the Jeep and took out his M9 Machine pistol and lined it up.he had a perfect shot.He ran across the whole row of zombie's hitting as many as he could in the skull until he had to reload.he reloaded and continued firing. The M9 was pretty quiet for a machine pistol unlike its bigger counter parts. It looked exactly like a pistol but it had a huge clip sticking out the bottom. As soon as Shane ran out of ammo the last zombie fell...for now anyway. He tossed the M9 in the backseat."Watch I wont be able to get any ammo for it."He said in a kind of annoyed tone.

(Maybe you wouldn't run out of ammo if you didn't shoot every zombie you saw? Just a thought.)

Just then, zombies began appearing everywhere, shambling out from the shadows, from inside buildings, from behind trees, swarming onto the road, pushing and shoving one another in order to get at the humans, the living humans. Soon their were dozens of them, all in various stages of decay. Some of them had mottled, discolored skin covered with open sores oozing excrescences. Others were missing their ears and noses, as well as a few fingers and toes. Others still had large areas of exposed skull and bone, missing teeth, missing eyes, missing limbs. A few of them were little more than crawling torsos.

Nilla gasped. She had no idea how they could have amassed so quickly.

Rayde jumped into the jeep and stepped on the gas. The jeep lurched forward, throwing Shane and Nilla back against their seats. Shane recovered quickly enough, but Nilla took a second. She was feeling better but she was still bruised pretty badly, and the impact sent a wave of pain through her small body.

Shane leaned out the back of the jeep, took aim with his handgun, and started firing. He fired until he ran out of bullets, then reloaded and fired again. Nilla followed suit. She took aim with her handgun and fired. She missed. She fired again, missed again. Fired a third time, managed to clip a zombie in the shoulder. Fired a fourth time, missed again. She decided it would be better to save her ammunition for a time when she really needed it, such as a close encounter.

She slipped her handgun back into her waistband and sat down.

(Just a note an M9 pistol is NOT a machine pistol, it is a 9mm semi auto Barretta wink )
Rayde slammed the Jeep in gear and took off in the direction of L.A. She just hoped that guy in the Radio station was holding out. Raydelookedin her rearview mirror as her newfound friends fired at the undead horde that wasamassing in the truckstop behind them. She watched as Mark's SUV pulled up behind them after the firing stopped and the truck stop began to vanish in the distance. "Thank God that's over," she said, "What a horrible night!" Rayde hoped her old map would still be applicable post infection. Rayde glanced up at her rearview mirror once again. "Hey Nilla, nice job conserving ammo, if you know you can't make a shot, save it for when you need it most, right?" She looked at the endless expanse of road in front of her. "Maybe when we get to L.A. I'll teach you to shoot." Damn... it was going to be a long drive. Well, gotta save the world somehow, it's just going to take babysteps. First these small groups of survivors need help. Rayde smiled and lifted up her sunglasses enjoying the fact she had pulled the roof off the Wrangler last month. She smiled contentedly and lit a cigarette.

((Im thinking of another weapon... It was similiar to the M9.... sweatdrop and I like shooting zombies.))
Shane leaned back reaching in his pack and found a needle and some thread."You got to learn survival skills if you, well wanna survive."He said hoping to avoid a shocked look and he started patching up his shirt.

Rayde was zoning out on the road when she heard Shane say, "You got to learn survival skills if you, well wanna survive." She laughed. Her eyes flitted away from the road for a second and she looked at Shane and asked him "Really?, What do YOU know about survival skills?" She laughed again and slapped him on the leg and focused back on the road. Rayde wondered to herself, Well that wasn't too smart a question considering he WAS still alive. Oh well, she was sure she had been through wayyy more survival situations than almost anyone here minus her brother and maybe that Mark guy. She said "Come on relax Shane, it's like we're the few survivors of a zombie apocalypse or something." Wow, she couldn't believe she had said that. Rayde realized just how off her sense of humor was. Oh well, she thought as she took another hit of her cigarette and cranked the tunes. SHe hadn't seen any walking dead in about two hours and was loving every second of it!

"Well lets see I know how to mend clothing, make fires among many other things that even includes weapon repair hunting and self defence."Shane smiled and finished patching up his shirt but left it off.the sun was really out.he looked up"God damn.you really took a great time to come out huh?"He said to nobody in particular He sat back in his seat letting the sun tan his chest and stomach.

Shane kept blabbing on about his "skills" Rayde just tuned him out, Boy, he couldn't take a joke. She saw the first zombie she had seen in a while. Must be getting lose to a city. She flipped off the zombie as she passed it. Damn undead, ruined everything. Rayde reallized that her legs were starting to go numb from sitting. She shouted to everyone "Hey, you guys ready for a break? I need to streatch before I get into the big city."
