Assumption
I guess I should have thought it through I loved and thought you loved me too But he who I hated and assumed hated me 'Twas he who loved me, This I couldn't see No more assumptions, and no more lies You've pulled the wool over my eyes Because of my assumptions I've been used too many times So no assumptions, no guesses No lies, and no more wool over my eyes

can I enter this time if I write a short story? Or even just let you say you can't make me win...? I really like this contest.

The contradiction of the evidence was so obviously clear; how could my client be at the crime scene at the time of the crime if he was with... me? He would have never murdered that man, because he had absolutely no interest in the female herself! He was sleeping with me for christ's sake; and I'm a man...
But look at me, a walking contradiction myself! A christain lawyer, oppressing peoples own rights at a whim if it means I win the case. Then I go home at night, and sleep with men; I complain about the lack of rights I have, and complain about the people who repress myself.
Maybe that just makes me selfish, but all in all, I need to win this case. But the choice is so hard. Betray the man I love at night; the one who makes me feel as though I'm not alone... or risk losing my job, my passion in live, because I admitted to my 'crime'. I am this man's only alibi.
"There seems to be a contradiction in the evidence," my opponant stated. I showed not my surprise, but only nodded to urge him to continue. For a brief moment, I caught my lovers eyes. I fought the urge to kiss him right then and there....
"Mrs. Carmin said that she loved her husband very much... but turns around and says how much she hates him staying out late at night. Maybe she has some hateful feelings?"
"Continue."
"Has anyone questioned where the man was going? Maybe there are other people in this picture?"
"No, that's not possible. If he had been involved in gang activity, they would have threatened his wife first to get what they wanted. If it had been drugs, then Mr. Carmin would have had to be doing drugs himself. None of the outskirting communities have ever heard of Mr. Carmin."
"But we would still need to know where he was.... It is possible there is something else."
This was my chance... if I didn't step in now, my client... my lover... would be sentenced to death. I stood slowly, slamming my hands on to the table in front of me.
"There is no outside killer. The reason Mrs. Carmin thought that Edward killed her husband is because she saw them together some months before, but her husband had been shady about him; isn't that right?"
She nodded slowly.
"So, one night, Mrs. Carmin decided to follow her husband out. To her surprise, her husband was at a gay bar, with Edward at his side. She was so angry and flustered she didn't know what to do. She loved Mr. Carmin so much, that she didn't want him to be with anyone else, isn't that RIGHT Mrs. Carmin?"
She looked shocked and flustered, but nodded again.
I started to pace to my left, my heartbeat rising, sweat falling off my face.
"With no contradiction to my opposing lawyer, she loved him... maybe a little too much. So she started planning... and struck months later, killing her husband. But, what Mrs. Carmin DIDN'T know was that Edward and Mr. Carmin had already broken up."
Mrs. Carmin looked pale, she was being trapped.
"Mr. Carmin was, once more, a married man, and a single homosexual..."
Edward smiled, and I smiled back. There was no going back now....
"How.. how do you know this, Sir?" the Judge asked in astonishment.
I sighed, and then took a deep breath. "Because I had seen them together, Sir judge. Edward couldn't have been there when Mr. Carmin died because....
"Because....
"Because.... He was with me."
