Once during a football game, I threw a pop toss and I caught it all funky-like. Well anyways, it hit my nose. Somehow I got a small scab? It was very unusual and it hurt like heck! Fortunately it was during the last movement, so I told myself I could perform the rest of the show with a smile. Of course I did, but I was CRYING with a smile on my face. That was weird.
We were doing tosses in some pretty strong wind going to the back. So I threw a silk toss. The ends are somewhat torn up. Who cares, they're practice flags. I didn't push out enough, so it came back and hit me. The end hit my thigh and I fell down. I was at the back ninja not very many people saw. Heh. Well, I had this red spot that looked like a huge circular bunch of scratches left on my leg.
When I was doing a dancing part during a practice, I bent over for one of the dance moves. When I was coming up, my fingernail scratched the same thigh that had the red mark on it. So now I have a red circle and a scab on the same thigh! I don't know why it's a scab, it didn't bleed or anything.

Isn't the kind of injury you manage to get from guard astounding?

Oh yes, today I was looking at my scars and trying to figure out where each one came from. I've got three on my right arm. One of them strikes right through another. One is still a mystery.

At UIL my first year I accidentally set two of my flags in the others spot. Well, when it got to that part of the show and I had realized what I had done I couldn't decide if I should go out with the wrong flag or not. Not really knowing how our director would act I went ahead and went out with the wrong flag. To top it all off, when I went to get the next flag, out of habit I went ahead and switched flags instead of keeping the proper one. For two movements I had the wrong flags. After the show our director got all pissy and asked me why I didn't just sit out. I told him that I thought I'd be in trouble. His response was simply "Be glad you didn't ******** up because all eyes were on you...DO NOT do it again." Now I triple check all of my equipment before going out onto the field.

Ohh, our coaches are completely strict on that. If the RIGHT flag is not there, do not pick it up. Completely sticklers for this. They pretty much massacre people if they do it. None happened in the competition.

I stepped on my swing flag during my solo at BOA prelims. Fortunately, the camera didn't catch it, but I felt pretty stupid anyway.

Neko Kafweenu I stepped on my swing flag during my solo at BOA prelims. Fortunately, the camera didn't catch it, but I felt pretty stupid anyway. At our last in-state competition my swing flag died. What I mean is this: The end of our last production, so the end of the show, has a violent sort of flick ending. I got someone's crappy swing flags after practice the night before. They were poorly taped, but I did not know this until it was too late. I did the ending and the lower half of the flag's tape let loose. So I had the silk for an entire swing flag at the top two inches of my pole. xd

Squawk Same with us. Air it if it's not there. Or better yet, have the flag there. Our director would kill anyone who went out without equipment. He says that it's tacky and that he wouldn't even let someone that's injured do it. "Either go out the way I wrote it or don't go out at all"

We don't air twirl. It's not pretty looking. We all set our own equipment, so if it's not there, we're to blame. We just go on with the show marching at attention.
Oh, gosh.. Last week I made a huge boo-boo... Okay, so for our second song (After the Love Is Gone) we're twirling hand flags... We've got two of them.. One is kind of stuffed inside the other one for the first few sets of the song.. (It's kind of folded up, and then stuck inside the other one.. Can't really describe it better than that..) Anyway.. So we come to the part where we're supposed to pull our other flag out.. And I pull on the wrong one.. sweatdrop So, the one I'm supposed to be pulling out gets jammed up inside the other and won't come out... I felt like such a dorkus, because I was stuck with one flag, and couldn't really do everything right.. Gosh, talk about embarrasing.. stressed stressed

Erin Sovenya One girl threw a horizontal, missed her catch and gave herself a black eye. It gets better. A few days later we were practising left hand horizontals and she did it again, but on the other eye. We had these costumes my freshman year where the straps crisscrossed in the back and hooked in back. Well, one of the juniors was right on the 50, in front, adn we did a rowboat or something, and BAM her strap comes undone, revealing her about-to-fall-off strapless bra. Man, she bolted behind the pit, red as the costumes xd lol i remember the black eye story that brian told me so i wouldnt hit myself and i still remember the story about the girl in the red dress lol which i believe u told me most likely but yeah it did help when i had to wear a unitard and not worry about it comin down lol but yeah ill have to remember to keep that story a tradition bc it did help a lil bit
