Still you;d think they'd be happy with you once they found out you're trying to help your country," Zig replied with her understanding increased a little. "I don't blame you for not going though. I dislike the court a good bit, too."

Taun smiled and nodded, then looked away for awhile lost in thought. He sighed and turned back to Zig. "So," he began, grasping for conversation. "Why were you at the capital, what was it, two days ago?"

Zig was happy Taun had broken the moment of silence. She hated awkward silences. "No particular reason, as usual. O rarely go someplace because I have a reason. I just sort of wander picking up odd jobs here and there to make a living. Usually there's someone who could use a little help with one thing or another. What about you? Were you just there to get drunk or was there another purpose to your visit?"

"I've had a few of those before," Zig said with a grin. She decided not to press him for more details although she recalled that he'd mentioned something about a girl who'd cheated on him. "Seems we're more similar than I'd have expected."

Taun laughed and said. "Yeah I guess we are." Another awkward silence started so Taun said. "Well I guess that we put a sword through the neck of that conversation."

"There's another thing I tend to be good at doing, ending conversations, but only when I don't really want to stop talking. That's the way of world though," Zig said in reply. "I wonder where Axex ran off to..." she pondered aloud. "He's fond of his free will, but usually he's around, although the water would probably unnerve him."

"Ah see that's where we differ, our pets, I mean animal companions." Taun said jokingly looking around for Axex. "Akito loves the water, but only land bound water not the open ocean."

"It would be rather strange for a crane to dislike water," Zig said. "Axex just isn't comfortable if he's over water. It's not his cup of tea." Then, she responded to a different part of Taun's comment, "True we do have that difference. Then, of course, there's gender and dominant element. Our nations are different, too."

"Well that's a given." Taun said with a laugh. "But personality wise, we're practically the same person."

"That sounds so weird when you say it that way. I can't believe I've met someone so similar to myself in this wide wide world," Zig said. It was strange, but she wasn't unhappy about meeting Taun. He was a good friends after all and he had a sense of humor to top it off.

"I'm happy to be here although I prefer if it were under different circumstances. I haven't visited the water nation much. My mother came back a few times though to visit the members of her family who were more open to marriage between nations and she brought me along." Zig looked at the impressive structure which perched atop the island. "It seems you guys are prepared."

"Thant's certainly true," Taun said. "When in doubt prepare for war, as they say." He smiled, but it was without mirth, he knew all to well that peace was just barely there.

"If only that weren't true," Zig replied. Most people disliked war as did Zig. It just made it harder for her to travel about when everyone was fighting with one another. She could barely get into her own country without the help of another air elementalist, although part of that had been because of Taun coming along.
