I actually found Johnny Cage to be a lot less of a douche than I expected. He's actually pretty cool in this game, unlike Shaolin Monks or MK4.

Goro is playable in MK Trilogy (PS1), MK4 (secret code), and in Armageddon.

Sorry, as far as I know, none of the bosses are playable in this one. Probably because they wouldn't want people picking them at tournaments. Which does kinda suck. Those cheap tournament douche bags ruined it for all of us.

God damn dude. Noob Saibot's fatality is mega brutal(ity).

Hahahahah! Well, guys, Babalities are back! And they're actually awesome and creative now! I wonder if Friendships are back as well...

EDIT: Okay, I stand corrected... Goro is playable, at the very LEAST in the Challenge Tower... But that means that it's very, very possible that he can be unlocked somehow...
PostPosted: Wed Apr 20, 2011 11:55 pm

@Bio: Yay! And double yay! It's better than nothin', I guess. Doubt he's unlockable. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him later in the form of DLC, though. And I don't see why they would leave him out because of tournaments, seeing as they already got Kratos in there. If I can play as Tits Goro, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to play as Goro. Another thing I noticed is they don't allow you to perform Fatalities on the bosses.
And, alright, well, after spending some extensive time with this game... I'm just gonna go over some of my likes and dislikes.

- Umm, where's my instruction manual?
- Noob is a cheap b***h, Quan Chi is a cheap b***h, Shao Khan is a cheap FACIST. Some of these fights have left my left thumb severely bliserted, and have provoked a lot of screaming and swearing from me at my TV.
- No Exhibition Mode? WTF? Is it unlockable...?

- Story Mode was pretty alright. Definitely pretty elaborate and unique for a fighting game anyway, I'll give it that. And the Tower Mode still gives you a unique ending for each character, so that's even more cool.
- I'm digging the meatiness. Lots of content and s**t to unlock, therefore giving me a reason to keep playing for a while. That's one thing I liked about Deception, even though I didn't think the game itself was particularly good.
- The Fatalities are cool.
- They did a good job with Kratos. I chuckled when I saw they actually threw a QTE in there for one of his moves. xD

Son of a Boon, that was Hard!!

Beating Shao Kahn with Liu Kang....Don't know why, but it was the hardest thing so far.

Currently I'm in Kabal's Chapter, fighting Mileena and Noob.

I absolutely adore Ermac's Alt costume, simple and awesome. Sonya's Alt costume is...uhhhgg...distracting, in a good way, and reminds me of Laura Croft.

I'm on challenge #20 of Challenge the Tower, and I hate Smoke's primairy costume( good thing I got his Alt ). Those are all my updates.

Yep. Same here, bro. That's probably the hardest Shao Khan fight in the story mode. The trick to him is basically the same trick that you use to fight Goro and Kintaro. Keep hopping behind him and drop kicking, basically. Kinda lame you're forced to cheese them like that. Problem with Shao Khan, though, is he's way cheaper with that ********' hammer bullshit, and all his unblockables, that ********' spear s**t that leaves you dazed, and then that anti-air move of his to boot. Thank god that for the last fight with him, you can teleport. So I just just cheesed him that way. It was a lot easier.

Only one I've really had any remote success taking him head-on with was Scorpion. And that was because I just spammed Get Over Here.

Instruction manuals are for pussies! Hahah. I guess they figured since they have a tutorial at the beginning of the challenge tower, you don't really need one, or something.

Actually, the best strategy I find for Shao Kahn is just to keep your distance, and then attack him when he taunts you. Duck when he shoots his spear, and everything else can't reach you. The only thing is that it's more difficult for characters who don't have moves that allow you to close in on the opponent. But even then you can just use projectiles. But most of then you can either teleport close, or use a far reaching move like sub-Zero's slide, or Liu Kang's flying kick.
EDIT:Also, whenever I do Liu Kang's Back+X, Square, Triangle combo, it usually ends up landing and sending Shao Kahn flying. Sometimes two or three times in a row, so it's a great way to deal some damage. I just beat him in 30 seconds with it.
/UNEDIT

I've beaten 160 challenges, so far... 140 to go... Phew.. Right now, though, Challenge 161, you have to play as Liu Kang, against Shao Kahn, and beat him in 30 seconds. Not looking forward to that.

By the way, you think Noob is a cheap b***h, TS? I find him horrible to play as. His black hole move is useless, and his combos suck.

Biggest disappointment so far? They promised to allow you to play your own music from the XMB, but that's not an option. Hopefully they'll patch it, though.

Finished story mode. The final fight with Shao Kahn wasn't as hard as I thought it would be... once I developed a good strategy. At first I was trying to make good use of Raiden's teleport, but Shao Kahn just kept owning me like he was anticipating my teleport. He was in the middle of a combo by the time I reappear. Ugg. So anyways, I made use of the distancing, waited for the taunt, and won both rounds completely by using flying punch. With Liu Kang, it was nothing but Bicycle kicks.

Just in case anyone hasn't seen Quan Chi's first Fatality, though I'm sure you guys have

**Spoiler Alert**

Quan Chi is fun to play with. I love his first Fatality, endless beatdown with your own leg. It had me in tears from laughter, wasn't expecting it it.

Well, I pretty much gave up on the challenge tower, hahah. About at 280ish something, it just gets so ******** ridiculously difficult, I just said screw it. "Defeat three Shao Kahns in a row with one health bar" ... No thanks. Hahah. But fighting against Shao Kahn with Shang Tsung was a pain in the a**. Since Shang Tsung doesn't have any distance closing moves, I had to rely on jumping in and doing combos, and not when he taunts, but when he throws his spear/hammer. So it was difficult as hell.
So I pretty much bought my way past the last 20 or so challenges, and now am unlocking all the arcade endings while collecting enough money to buy my way past the final challenge so that I can get that awesome prize. I already bought everything in the Krypt, so that's all I need money for anyway, might as well make use of it.

As for Quan Chi's fatality, it's the same one he had in MK4. And Ed Boon said it was his favorite of all time as of 2006, so I kinda knew it would make its return. It's better now, obviously. But it does kick a**..

I gotta say though, my favorite fatality right now is Shang Tsung's. Which is basically the uncensored Joker fatality from MK vs. DC, except instead of Joker, he transforms into this weird clown with freaky teeth. That should be an alternate costume in and of itself.

@Bio: I know, but a lot of games with tutorials still have instruction manuals. =/ They're gettin' lazy. It's inevitable, I suppose. Physical Media is gonna phase out in video games, just like movies and music. And that saddens me.

Noob's black hole move is usless? I hate that ********' move!

I'm on 152 of Challenge Tower right now. It was pretty glorious to finally be able to play as Goro for the first time in my life.

Bah, whatever man. My CD collection is still growing.

The instruction manual thing though... I dunno, man. It can't just be a matter of, "Eh, we don't feel like it."
It's not on the disc though. Mass Effect 2 for PS3 had its instruction manual available from the disc.

You hate that move, why? Because you get caught in it a lot? Because if that's the case, then it is indeed the worst move ever. If used on you, it ******** you up, but try using it youself, and 9/10 times the computer opponent will just get out of the way. It's a pain in the a**.

Well, I've unlocked everything, bought out my way past the challenge tower. Now, on to replay the Story Mode again.

Wow, Bio, I'm a real chump compared to you. I'm now on challenge # seventy-something, and I have about 68% of the krypt unlocked. I started trying to master Kung Lao, but I've long since given up on him. So after several character switches, I'm now trying to master Shang Tsung, and it's going great. He really isn't that hard to play, especially since he's got a fireball for every distance. They work nice for a little bit of cheesin',lol.

Speaking of cheesin', there are so many spammers online. Of course everyone and there mum plays Smoke, and continuously use his teleport punch, etc. Not to mention Sub-Zero, holy hell could he have anymore freeze techniques, I don't like being able to take two steps, not one bit....sarcasm.

Still having fun though. One of the best fighting games I'ved played in a long while. By the way, Bio, are you still considering Raging Blast 2? Sorry off topic.

I haven't played online. Well, cause Sony hasn't had the PS Network working for the past 3 days. Damn hackers.
But I dunno, I found the fact that Shang Tsung doesn't have any non-fireball special moves kinda bad. Because it doesn't displace him at all. He's planted when he does the fireballs. I usually like moves that can sent my character across the screen, like Sub-Zero's slide, or Liu Kang's flying kick, or Sonya's Arc kick.

As for Raging Blast 2, it's still over $50 everywhere I see it, so probably not anytime soon. I still haven't beaten all the story missions in Raging Blast 1 anyway.

The character hopping continues. Although, I've made a rather good breakthrough with Ermac. This one might stick. I've always liked him for some reason, just didn't give him much of a shot in the first few days of playing. Long story short after an hour of in practice with him, I'm awfully Ermac sav vy.

I've been meaning to put down MK for a bit. I still have some games to catch up on. Including SMT: Nocturne which I recently got in the mail. But man, every time I see the MK Logo (and it's on my wall, so I see it a lot), I just wanna play MK again. What a kick a** game.
