I'm having some issues on FFX. I am also known to flee battle when I don't feel like putting up with them.^^'
I don't know what level I'm on strength and ability wise, but I can't seem to defeat Evrae. It keeps killing me with it's poison attack; I tried using Slow on it but it always speeds itself up, then when I try to cast Slow again it always misses.
I sometimes can pull away in time to escape the poisen attack, but when I can't, that's when I die.
I've read various walkthroughs, but they haven't seemed to help. I'm not exactly at what I would call a high level. There are lots of things that I should be able to do at this point in the game that I can not.

Evrae's a toughie , you do need to have levelled up a bit.You need to equip what you can against poison and petrification , and use plenty of good healing. There is a pattern to the attacks , and if you can move in and pull back at the right times , you can minimise the damage.

Best suggestion though is to level up some more biggrin

Yeah, if I don't level up, how am I going to expect to move on? I've been thinking lately that I should start the game over completely so I can fix all my mistakes and whatnot.

That's not a bad idea. I often do that with games , I play about a quarter through to get the hang of it , and then start again biggrin You need a fair bit of patience with X. Spend quite a bit of time in Besaid , Kilika and the Mi'hen High Road. Also , if you can stand it , have Rikku steal as many grenades as possible at the beginning of the game. You can sell them later to buy some better weapons and stuff. GET THE JECHT SHOT!! even if you have to reset over and over.

My strategy was to start with Lulu, Wakka, and either Auron or Kimahri. Then I would switch in Tidus or Rikku if I needed to pull back/foreward, or to attack at close range. (Of couse I would Tidus for the attacks, Rikku's strong point isn't exactly physical attacks.XD)
I really had not set party, I tried to utilize all or most of the characters.

I usually keep a set party... try Lulu, Wakka, and either Rikku or Tidus, keep the airship at a distance, so Cid can fire missiles at Evrae, and just long-range the fight to the best of your ability (get plenty of healing items or something beforehand)
and do NOT slow him (unless you have Slowstrike and can cast Reflect on him)

Okay, thanks! I've started my game over again, but it shouldn't take me long to get back to the point I was at. I'll keep your advice in mind. Thanks again!

...In that case, just avoid fleeing unless you have to...
that way when you get there again, it won't be nearly as traumatic and you can do your own thing

Yeah, I realized that when it was too late.^^ And at the time, I wasn't saving backup games. This time around I'm going to be smart, and not flee unless it's an emergency.

In the final boss battle with Sephiroth you fight with your team members.
