FLUTE:
It was nearing noon and she was starving. She had not before leaving and had not thought to bring anything.
"I'm going to starve out here. . ." She didn't know which was worth, the thought that she might die or the thought that it would be alone. She whimpered again and made another attempt to get to her feet, but only made it as far as her knees. About to lie down again and give up, Flute paused and thought about her situation. If she could make it to her knees that meant that she could still crawl. Looking towards the direction of the castle she made up her mind.
"It's a long way back, but I'll do it!" She moved forward one small movement at a time, but at least she was going forward.

Kethean roused out of his bunk and it took him a moment to reconize where he was. "Early riser eh?" came Raynar's voice from the doorway. "Of course..." grumbled Kethean as he stuggled to sit up. "How you feeling?" he asked as he yawned. "Well thanks to the medic I'll just have to deal with a few bruises..." said Raynar as he began to unequip his equipment. Kethean realized that Raynar must have just gotten off his shift and the two got ready for the day.

NAMIDA:
He was starting to get worried. Flute had disappeared this morning. That wasn't unusual, but was disturbing was the fact that she had yet to be found. She never missed lunch with her mother, but today she had.
He leaned out over the wall and tried to think of where the child could be. Just as he was about to leave the wall to search the grounds once more a spot of blue out in the field caught his attention. Squinting he saw her! Flute was crawling very slowly back to the castle.
She was quite a distance away-
...and she wasn't alone. The howl of a wolf broke the silence and both Namida and Flute turned to the sound. Even from this distance Namida could see the fear in the young girl's face as a pack of wolves headed right for her.
He was too far away, but he had to try.
He ran for the gates shouting at the nearest guard.
"Get help! A child's under attack on the Field!" He never stopped running even as he shouted and cleared the gates, thanking however was watching over him that he grabbed his sword this morning.

Raynar looked up after hearing the shout for help and Kethean droped his sandwich in mid bite as they followed after the stranger to the castle gates. Isnt that the stranger from yesterday? thought Kethean as they began running. Raynar called up to the guard tower and they began to strike the bell for the guards to be on full alert.

FLUTE:
She whimpered and tried to crawl faster, but her strength was nearly gone adn the howls of the nearing wolves froze her blood, sapping what little will she had left. If she survived this she would never run away from her chores again!
Looking up she saw Namida running towards her, followed by two other men. She reached out her hand, praying that they got to her before the wolves did.

Kethean ran as fast as he could but he knew he would not make it in time to stop the wolves from getting to her at the rate she was moving. Kethean outstreached his left hand before him and slide forward in the dirt and he closed his eyes in conentration. He casted Healing Wind on the young girl hoping that it would give her more time for the others to get to her before the worst happened.

FLUTE:
A light wind gently wash over her body and she felt the effects of a healing spell being cast. Trusting the spell she got up on her feet without testing her ankle and took off running towards Namida. The wolves were close, but she had to believe she would reach safety. Her ankle still hurt slightly, but she ignored and poured everything she had into her running.

NAMIDA:
Namida reached Flute just before a wolf did. he grabbed her outstretched arm, pulled her in close to his chest and turned, presenting his back to the lunging wolf. He winced as claws and teeth made contact with flesh between the joints of his chainmaille, but held on tight to Flute and kicking back at the animal.
The sound of bones snapping and a whine of pain let him know he had done damage and the wolf withdrew a few feet.
Namida took that opening and ran back towards the gate, he wouldn't be able to fight properly with Flute in his arms. He saw Raynar and the new guy behind him. Raynar waved him back and he nodded leaving the beasts to them.

Kethean saw that the man had reached the girl and as he took her to safety he stood his ground prepareing and waiting untill they both got out of striking distance. As soon as Namida ran past Kethean with Flute in his arms Kethean used his rune once more but this time he cast The Shredding. A terrible spell that he was not fond of but considering the circumstances he was willing. His only hope was that the young girl would forget the howls of the wolves as they were torn apart.

FLUTE:
She covered her ears to block out the horrible noise coming from behind Namida. She didn't turn, didn't want to see and buried her face into his chest, refusing to move even when she felt her mother's arms pry her off and hold her tightly. She shivered, cried and continued to block everything out.
That sound had been one of pain and even if those in pain had meant her harm it still hurt to hear it. She didn't resist when someone made her drink something sickly sweet and was almost relieved when she drifted off into a drugged slumber where sounds and pain could not touch her.

Raynar came up from behind Kethean and patted him on the back. "That rune sure is something! Damn wolves they -" Kethean quickly cut Raynar off in midsentance as he continued to stare at field before him. "They werent wolves." he said in a firm voice. Raynar gave Kethean a confused look "What do you mean, of course they are, you can tell just by looking at them." he said mockingly. "I know but these... these were sick, you can smell it on them. Its not natural." Kethean said in a worried voice. Raynar furrowed his brow when suddenly he gagged "Ack, oh man that smells foul!!" he gagged. The two friends turned away and continued after Namida, and Kethean knew that something was off in this area, when wolves like that have the smell of death on them.

NAMIDA:
He sat with Flute's mother as she watched over her daughter. Flute's ankle still had a light sprain and there was some gashes on her knees and palms but those had been bandaged as easily as the light wounds on his own back had been.
No it wasn't the wounds that concerned either of the adults sitting there. It was the silence that had met hem when Flute had woken up a little while ago. Her eyes had been blank and her expression lifeless. Namida shuddered just remembering it.
"The doctor thinks it's just shock from being so close to death and than hearing something else die. She's too young to fully understand or handle it so she just shut down." Namida watched Flute's Mother, Chiase, as she said this. Chiase was handling this as well as her daughter, which meant that they both needed someone taking care of them.
Daisy was good with things like this and he left Chiase and Flute alone for a moment while he went to look for her.

"So, tell me again- WHY are we lost in a dense forest?"
"W..well.... I thought that... umm... the map said to...."
"Gimme that!" There was a rustling of paper as a map was snatched out of trembling hands. A long pause of silence. "....I can't believe this... Okay, you see this writing here?"
"Yes?"
"It's upside-down."
"Oh......oh dear...."
"How could you not notice that?! I swear, you're just as bad as that Cadwallander!" An angry growl and some indistinct mumbling.
"I thought it was w-written in runes...!"
"Which you can't even read very well. I see a castle over there, so let's go and ask for directions."
"Umm.. okay..."

NAMIDA:
He had sent Daisy to Chiase and Flute and knew that he had done everything he could to help. Now he was left with nothing to do. Walking along the paths, no real destination in mind he almost missed the flash of red that zoomed across a corner of the market area.
"Was that some kind of animal?"
Curious he went to investigate. Approaching the corner where the red thing had gone he heard a loud crash followed by cursing in a high child-like voice. It was followed by a snarl and then a barrel rolled out of the corner, a little red tail sticking out of it. Namida looked into the barrel and came face to face with a pair of bright blue eyes.

NAMIDA:
He reached into the barrel and very carefully extracted the child that had found her way inside. A child that wasn't exactly human. Standing on the ground ebside him now, she barely came up to his knees and had a long fox tail that seemed a size or two too large. The little red fox ears on her head also seemed a little two large. Her feet were canine in appearance but were a dark gray colour with nails that were too long and were probably what caused her to trip into the barrel.
She seemed unafraid of him, looking around with intrest, her tail swinging back and forth behind her. Suddenly her head swung in his direction and her eyes lit up.
"SHINY!" She pounced his arm, hanging onto a bit of his chainmaille that was showing through his shirt. He looked at the little kit wrapped around his arm and laughed as she looked back at him in confusion.
"Do you have a name little one?"
She nodded and jumped back to the ground, posing and pointing to herself proudly.
"Meeky!"
