Hehe, I just realized that your name and my name have a lot in common if you say 'em out loud! My name's not very fun to sign, either...

I kinda came up with my own cursive style in high school because I think the cursive alphabet that they teach you to write in 4th grade has some very ugly letters. e.g. capital T's and F's are hideous, and having the capital A look like a very large lowercase "a" bothers me.
I hated hated hated hated cursive and I had to use it from age 6 to 12. After that I could finally write like a normal person. Unfortunately Arts had quite a few assignments that required cursive and I had to use my right hand even though I'm a lefty. Unfortunately my teacher was a lefty too and he said it was no problem to do it with right. When he wasn't watching I just used my left hand and wrote from the north-west angle in stead of the mandatory south-east angle. Mandatory fonts are such bullshit. D;

MANDATORY CURSIVE? Ugh. I hated mandatory printing. I do my a's like this a instead of how people usually do a's, and I would get docked points in English class in seventh grade. I changed my handwriting for that year to appease my teacher and promptly changed it back after the last day of school. talk2hand

Also, the letter z?! And capital G? Who the hell came up with those?

I always liked writing the cursive "z," but it wasn't used all that often...

I had to write in cursive in 3rd through 6th grade and I hated it. Actually, I might have had to in 7th, too. Teachers in my hometown were hell on it. I know it's supposed to be quicker and all that, but if I write fast in cursive I can't read my own writing.

Also, what is up with the college bookstore even stocking wide-rule notebooks, let alone stocking more of them than college-ruled? I haven't used that crap since early elementary.

Waffles: probably somebody on crack or something I hate writing those in cursive, I hate cursive all together because I can't write it legibly enough where I can read my own writing. gonk

Also Mandatory cursive? WTF!

I'm curious how you write your first name in cursive Aivi.

My real signature is like this, while my pen signature is this.

I write my capital A with the same motion as one would make while drawing a star. :]

I like cursive Z's, too.

Cursive was mandatory for me in elementary school, too, from 2nd grade when we learned it 'til 8th grade - once I hit high school and everything had to be typed, I stopped using it.
...and then I took the SAT at the end of my junior year and there was a bit where you had to write out this statement saying you hadn't cheated or something like that, and it HAD to be in cursive...practically the entire room was like "how do I write a capital I?" "how do I write ANYTHING?" and "THIS IS TAKING FOREVER!!" etc. It was entertaining. =)

I also remember going to my mother when I was learning cursive and complaining about how capital J's looked ugly, and she showed me how she does them and I copied her - so instead of having the loop at top and bottom, my capital J's look like half of a skinny, quickly-drawn heart.

Cursive is pretty, but I print so much faster.

Wow, what's with all the cursive bashing? I wrote my notes in cursive! xd It was much faster than the standard version and the more I did it the better my cursive looked. (:

Man, I love cursive writing! Too bad my writing is hardly legible anymore (since I don't write often enough. I type most of the stuff I do).

Some of the cursive letters I do, I learned from others (like F's and G's). Boy do I like my F's. hehe

Haha, I like cursive and use it quite often... I'm just hatin' on the ugly letters. XD

When I write notes quickly, they end up being some hybrid between cursive and print letters... I mean, I'd be crazy if I thought a cursive "T" goes faster than a printed T.

Hrm... *contemplates scanning a demo*

Do a demo, do a demo!! xp

I'm not hating cursive itself, I just hate my cursive because it's ugly and illegible.

I should try and learn to write my cursive better some day. emo

I dislike cursive in general. It's aesthetically pretty, but even well-written cursive is so much harder for me to read. I'm so used to standard 12 point Times New Roman font that it's just too much of a shift. Practicality over beauty.

Yeah, my handwriting in general is also a hybrid of print and cursive.

I can agree with that Pyre, but it's faster for me to do cursive. I can read what I write...for the most part! d:

I can't stand Times New Roman. Just so...basic and blocky and common. COMMON! But I do like other common fonts like Verdana and Arial even if Arial is a little too small.

But at the same time can you really write in a specific font style? Heh d:

I also saw the movie "State of Play" which is an awesome flick. I would recommend seeing it if you've enjoyed movies like "Inside Man" and "Michael Clayton." 3nodding

My mother's printing (and her cursive, actually) and my best friend's printing look like computer fonts. My best friend is a pretty good artist and her handwriting rarely doesn't look perfect, and my mom learned how to write when teachers were really pushing that whole "every letter has to be ABSOLUTELY PERFECT" idea.

I really liked Inside Man but haven't seen Michael Clayton. I really want to go see Angels and Demons, though. They got rid of Tom Hanks' mullet for this one, yaaaay!

No, but printing is a far cry closer.

And my teachers were crazy about handwriting, too. I just did it well for my grade in the subject, and half-assed it the rest of the time. By high school? Peh! I need to get this s**t down fast, not worry if it's pretty or not.

My mom was one of those crazy cursive teachers. She's always telling me how bad my writing is. Fie! Who handwrites anything these days? My grammar and spelling are better than hers so talk2hand
