“ What shall I play? A good question…” Quinnel trailed off, fumbling with her pipes as she tried to get them off her belt. Finally freeing her beloved instrument, she looked between her and then dragonet, and then grinned.

“ Well, I suppose there’s plenty enough excitement, so how about something a bit calm?”

What Quinnel failed to mention was that pan pipes were not exactly the most energetic-sounding instrument, making it difficult to play celebratory music. Pulling her pipes to her lips, her brow furrowed for a moment in thought before she began to play.

Bondyeth took back a little at the nudge, still mildly disconcerted that it was a green he was speaking with, and that she was touching him, of all things! But Inannath kept talking about him. As long as they kept talking about him, Bondyeth supposed she was okay. She certainly knew quality when she say it, he could give her that. Yes, yes, the best and the biggest! And everyone will not be able to help it, they will have to admire me! The bronze crooned and shuffled his wings, quite pleased with the direction of this conversation.

"Emori. S'a very pre'y name. An' I understand," he said, chuckled a little as he glanced back at Bondyeth. Oh Farnath, that dragon was going to be absolutely impossible when Inannath was done with him. "He keeps talkin' 'bout how wonderful he is 'n such. 'N how proud I should be." H'dek cracked a grin and rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "I guess I am pretty proud, but I ain' dun nothin'. He's the one that Impressed me. I think." A blink. "M'from a Hold, Benden, so s'cuse me if I make n' idiot a' myself. Born in the Hold and worked as an apprentice vintner just 'til a few sevendays ago."

H'dek turned a little deeper red. "'M babblin'. Wha' 'bout you, where are y'all from?"

Oh! The poor little queen is hiding! Ceylith was unable to keep a mental coo out of her voice. After all, she was in the presence of cute tiny things. How could she resist commenting on their tininess and cuteness and all around adorablosity? More than anything, she wanted to go over there and snuggle the little queen, but she understood that this was an important moment between dragonets and their new soulmates. It was important not to intrude on that newly formed partnership. Not much, anyway.

Actually, her instincts were to snuggle each and every one of the hatchlings. Well, maybe not the first Green who had hatched. Maybe Ceylith would have to use a long-distance snuggle technique for that. There’s Kalli, she said excitedly. We should go speak to her!

Why? What’s there to say? Good job on not getting yourself mauled today? The entire concept of congratulating someone for Impressing was a bit confusing for C’ren. It wasn’t like the Candidates did anything else other than show up. The dragons were the ones who did all the work and everything. They were the poor, newly-hatched and terrified creatures that deserved all the praise. He returned the wave vaguely, though, a hint that he at least acknowledged Kallista’s presence.

Well… the Green was momentarily baffled, but her bafflement didn’t last very long. Because it would be nice. Look, she’s waving at you! She wants to talk to you! Insistently, Ceylith nudged at C’ren’s back, which the rider then attempted to ignore. Ceylith huffed a little and then decided to go over there herself. Fine. If C’ren wouldn’t be polite, then she would. Directing her thoughts towards the new little Green’s mind, Ceylith’s voice came kindly, Congrats on finding Yours, little one. And you! You are truly beautiful. Mine was right when he said you were lovely.

Oh Shards… C’ren sighed, realizing he was going to get the silent treatment from Ceylith until he at least went over there and talked to Kallista. With extreme reluctance, the dragonrider walked over to the girl and her new-bonded, as aloof as ever. “Congratulations, Kallista,” he said. “Ceylith says congratulations too. She’s very proud of you.”

Coming into the tail end of the some sort of conversation, she wondered who was going to hate Annie. Shamefully, she was a might too interested in the gold to think more on it.

Following the Gold with her eyes, she put her hand on her bag then stopped herself. She was going to provide a meat roll as a little treat for the Gold, but thought it might be rude.

Elae...Oh yeah her question. Pulling her mind away from the gold she put it back into the conversation. "C'ym was it? Congratulations again, to both you and Annelie. I can't believe my luck, a Gold rider and a Bronze rider as friends?" Mostly it was jest, it was their big day their luck. Nothing wrong with the bit of a security net though.

Frowning, Ci-C'ym hadn't seen Elae? Oh no, either this was really bad, or it would turn out really funny. Watching the adorable bronze, she ached for a dragon of her own but forced herself not to look at the Gold again. "Hanumanth is just adorable, C'ym." Skirts reminded her of clothing, and her eyes sparkled a moment before she brought the idea to life. "You might have freshly embroidered clothing, C'ym. If Elae isn't here she might be wishing to spread her favorite thing to say about 'bits' on clothing." Her father was a tailor, right? The chuckle that followed the comment was mainly because it was something she'd find very amusing but would never help with herself.

The sad part about Inannath’s and Bondyeth’s conversation was that she would have given the same spiel to just about any dragon. She was just so dinky that everyone looked grand to her. Funny, though, how it never occurred to her to notice her own size.

“He’ll live up to his boasts someday,” Emori assured the blond boy, and felt a pang of mortification after the words left her mouth. Just hours ago, she’d never even given a single sniff about dragons, even outright hated them at times, and now here she was praising one that wasn’t even hers! She felt so queer about it that she almost didn’t answer H’dek’s question. She was suddenly embarrassed to even admit that she was from a hold at all, but if she lied to that young man and he turned out to be from the Weyr, he’d know it. She winced and answered through her teeth, “There’s a smaller hold not too far away from Ista Hold… it’s my uncle’s.”

L'an watched the other pair interact curiously. Isonth was somewhat like Alcherath from what he seemed, if a bit larger and more...alert. "Still, I could never complain. Alche...I love her." There simply was no other word for it. "It'll make some changes later, I'm sure, but I'd never think of having it have gone differently." He grinned and rubbed the sleepy dragonet's eyeridges. She made small content noises and L'an promptly yawned. "Funny, I wasn't drowsy a minute ago..."

He shook himself and let the dragonet snooze against him. "So, did you ever think it would happen? This was my first try...I never dreamed I'd be so lucky." He paused to take a drink of chilled klah. That should help him stay awake..."Though honestly I had pinned myself more for a blue. Maybe a brown. Not that I'm not pleased as things are but..." He shrugged. "I mean, I'm not...not that there's anything wrong with that, of course."

The grogginess coming through the bond from his green had certainly loosened his tongue. "I suppose I should get used to the idea. Then again, some girls get blues so..." He shrugged haplessly.

Brynne smiled at her friends reaction, though that spread into a grin as she began to play. Her attention turned back to her new dragonet, watching Ixtabth closely, mildly surprised to find her eyes swirling green instead of yellow. She was even more surprised when she took a step forwards, poking the very tip of her pale nose out from under the table, clearly mesmerized by the music being played.

I like it, Mine. came Ixtabth's words, her gaze fixed intently on Quinnel, the source of the music. Brynne smiled, reaching under the table to scratch Ixtabth's eyeridges, pleased to have found something to calm her Green, even if only a little. Addressing Quinnel, she spoke, "She likes it - keep playing."

T'ka scratched the top of Haanyath's head, and her eye ridges absently, noting the firmness of Ghilani's handshake. That was good. At least he wasn't upset or put off at all by the strongness of his dragon's personality. Or perhaps his brown...

[<>/color]

Haanyath supplied the name. So Perhaps Khunoth was not really aggressive at all? Just protective? At least he didn't seem to mind the firelizard on him. Goodness knows no flit was brave enough or stupid enough to try and land on Haanyath, save for Xythe.

The last statement really seemed to strike something in Haanyath, because she stood up a little taller than before, held her head a little higher.

"I'll go with Ghilani then. It's fun to say, in all honesty. And...I haven't eaten enough to make a different in my appetite. I'm afraid Haanyath keeps me awfully busy. Shall we go and get something to satiate us, and them, perhaps?" T'ka had actually eaten quite a bit, but Ghilani hadn't started yet! And it would be rude to just sit by and try and engage in conversation with him when he was eating. She would eat a little more. Hopefully Haanyath would sit still long enough that she could actually engage in some nice conversation. T'ka waved at Tada, smiling. The little green was just as small and cute and darling as ever. When all else failed, T'ka found endless enjoyment and amusement in flits. Perhaps hers would help her get through some of Haanyath's more difficult periods.

"If I don't impress..." Rayale debated thoughtfully, his expression going distant for a moment. "I'd probably go back and finish learning fishing. I was pretty good at that, and I like to swim anyway. Doesn't matter how much you look like a heard-beast in the water. Anyone can swim." He picked thoughtfully at his cuffs, revealing his self consciousness about his build. "But I'd never hear the end of it from my brothers, the twins." He shrugged faintly. "Could be worse, I mean they're just idiots. I figure they'll get theirs, eventually. You're probably right though, it probably was the same merchant."

Conomor shuddered internally at the idea of not Impressing, his mind wandering back to what his life might end up like. He had no craft, was too old really to start an apprenticeship. At least as a weyrbrat he wouldn't be cast out of the Weyr if he never found his dragon. He took another swig of wine and tried not to worry too much. Frequent large clutches made for a good chance for him. Provided his bad luck finally ended.

"I don't know what I'd do," Conomor said eventually with a shrug. "I suppose I'd find some way to make myself useful." Not cleaning and hauling his whole life. No. He couldn't. He didn't consider himself an especially proud person but he still couldn't stand the idea of whiling his days away in menial labor. It was alright for his mother; she enjoyed her simple honest work, had never expected to ride a dragon. Perhaps he had let himself get too caught up in that dream. Arrogance, sheer arrogance to assume a dragon would choose him one day. Yet why should one not? He was as worthy as any other Candidate, more so than some. Yes. He would find his dragon someday, perhaps someday soon.

"Idiots getting what they deserve is always nice to see," Conomor went on eventually. "I was sadistically pleased to see the boys who were so sure they'd Impress bronzes walk away with nothing. I feel for everyone else though. It would be nice if everyone who deserved to be chosen by a dragon was."

"I wish I knew what makes people worthy or not." He frowned, pondering this. You heard a lot of reports about how Riders were arrogant thieves with an enormous sense of entitlement, but here they just mostly seemed exceedingly busy, the Weyr crowded. "I hope you get a dragon though." He offered, hopefully. "You seem like a nice guy, so that's probably better than one of the Twins getting one. Shards if one of them got a dragon? You have no idea. They'd probably use it to fly everywhere and pull big pranks on people."

Conomor gave a deep chuckle and shook his head. "I know a few riders like that in passing; overgrown children with too much power. Still," he smiled at the other boy, "I hope you find your dragon as well. I'd like to have you as a wingmate some day." What did make a person worthy? It was hard to say.

"I'm not sure how much 'worthy' even comes into now I think about it," Conomor went on with a frown. "There are plenty of riders who are little but bullies, and plenty more that are just incompetent... I suppose all that comes into it is whether or not you have the ability to bond, which we both do, and whether or not a dragon that suits you is born. It would be nice if Impression really was based on worth though," he said with a shake of his head, "last thing we need with the Thread due to falls so soon is sub-par riders."

Gilden chirred her agreement with Conomor on principle even though clearly she had no idea what was being said. Having thus offered her support, she gave him the impression that she was hungry and launched off his shoulder to flit over the crowds back towards the tables of food.

Rayale grinned hugely, not at the idea that there were Riders not much different than the twins that made his life hell, but because someone might actually want to partner with him if he was lucky enough to Impress.
"Well, my father always said the Sea takes care of the arrogant, maybe the same is true with Thread."
It wasn't a pleasant thought, but it was possible. Of course by the same token, it might also do the same for the unskilled, and as much as he wanted to impress he saw it as a long road to become as skilled as the existing riders.

As long as no one ever told Bondyeth that Inannath was so free in her compliments, they'd never have a problem. Or that might not be a problem anyways; even but a few hours old, Bondyeth's ego was anything but fragile. The bronze bumped his clutch sister once more before turning to settle near His again. Inannath said lots of nice things, but listening to her chatter so fast made his mind hurt, just a little.

H'dek nodded, a little confused by the way Emori clammed up. Maybe she didn't get along with her parents? Maybe her family hadn't wanted her to come. His parents were reluctant to let him go, but far be it from them to hamper his chances at a dragon. Wouldn't they be proud when they heard about his Bondyeth!

I'd like to go see the Queen, Mine.

H'dek blinked and stared down at Bondyeth. Well, no use in denying the little bronze, he was curious to meet the other bronzerider as well. He turned back to Emori and dipped his head. "Bondyeth here is beggin'-"

I would never beg!

"....is askin' me t' go tha' lil' Queen and her rider. You y'all like t' join us?"
