Naito closed his eyes, listening to the sound of Lyrica's voice. Her song mixed with the gentle pitter-patter of the rain, creating a very soothing melody. He felt safe and comfortable, and found himself wondering why he had never sought out company before. Perhaps it was because no others had interested him the way that Lyrica did. He snuggled closer to her, stifling a yawn.

As he relaxed against her, the fear and stress she had been feeling seemed to drain from her body, and her voice grew stronger. She continued to sing, losing herself in the song. The lyrics were very relaxing, and she could tell he was getting sleepy. As the rain continued to fall outside, the atmosphere in the burrow was one of comfort and peace now. She was very glad that Naito had agreed to come back with her. He seemed very nice, and as his body rested against hers, she began to feel a heat building up within her.

He sensed a subtle shift in Lyrica as she continued to sing. She was singing more loudly and seemed more comfortable and confident. Although he was still sleepy, he began to feel a bit restless as well. Suddenly, Naito was very aware of her warm body next to his, her breathing, and perhaps even her heartbeat. At the same time he began to feel self-conscious and felt his own heartbeat quicken. He opened his eyes and shifted a few inches away from her, not sure what he was feeling. He watched her sing, his heart seeming to pound along with the music.

She felt his sudden absence against her body as she continued to sing. She wondered if the warmth she was feeling was being felt by him too. As she approached the end of the song, her mind started racing. What if he decided to leave? Did she want him to leave? Or did she want him to stay? She'd never really been this close to a male of her kind before. Was what she was feeling what some people called love? If so, was he feeling the same thing? She finished the song and laid their in silence for a while, listening to his breathing. After what seemed like an eternity of silence, she finally decided to ask him. "Naito, would you like to stay here with me for a while? You don't have anywhere to be right? I would really like it if you did. I rather like having you here. I feel all warm inside right now, and I've never had this feeling before. Do you feel any different?" She truly hoped that he would say yes. What would she do if he said no?

He watched as she finished the song, carefully studying her face. He didn't understand what it was about her that made him feel this way, why he wanted to be close to her and why he wanted to know everything there was to know about her. He lay his head on the ground between his front paws, his ears drooping a bit. It was all too confusing. When she stopped singing, he continued to watch her, not sure if he should say anything or what he should say. Then she began talking. His heart flipped in his chest when she asked him to stay for a while, and continued to beat wildly with her following words. "I don't know what a while is, but I would very much like to stay. The idea of having only this one night with you is rather depressing, and I'd really like to get to know you better. I don't know if this is what you would consider different, but my heart pounds when I'm around you and I feel like I've swallowed a whole net of butterflies. I get nervous and excited and anxious, and can't tell whether or not this is a good or bad thing. But.." he hesitated, glancing away briefly. "I do know that no one else has ever made me feel like this, and there is no other medaria I would rather spend my time with than you."SEPTEMBER POINTS

Her heart skipped a beat. He would stay! That was all she could think about at the moment. Was this what love felt like? Had her parents met in a similar way? She looked at Naito and imagined them together for years and years and it made her very happy. "I don't exactly have those same feelings, but I do know that I too don't want you to leave after tonight. I want to know everything there there is to know about you, and one night would not be enough time. I want to tell you about my family, and what it was like growing up with a brother and sister." Her wings seemed to flutter as she spoke. She still found it interesting that he didn't have wings, but then again, her father had not had them either. She supposed it was a trait she had inherited from her mother, and that not everyone was blessed with them.

"I admit I don't have as many stories to tell you. I couldn't tell you about my home life and my family, I've never had a home before and I can't remember anything of my family. I suppose I could tell you about my travels, the places I've seen, but I doubt that would be interesting at all. The world is meant to be experienced, not talked about." He sighed a bit, his forehead furrowed, then began looking between Lyrica and the door.
"This.. home life.. I've never known anything like it before. I don't stay in one place, what if I don't like it." He glanced back at Lyrica, panic creeping into his voice. "I like you very much, but what if I can't stay in one place to be with you? I've never tried it before and maybe I can't do it. And what if I miss out on all sorts of things in the world, there is so much left unseen and undone," he stood up and began pacing, his breathing coming faster.
"I don't.. how could I possibly.. I'm not meant to stay in one place. That's why I don't have a home, why I've never had a home. And I've never had to stay in one place because there is never a reason to." He stopped pacing and gave Lyrica a desolate look. "But what good is the world without you in it?"

As he continued to speak and pace about the burrow, she became concerned and frightened that he might suddenly bolt outside and she would never see him again. He was asking so many questions, so quickly that she couldn't answer one before he asked another. The look on his face told her he was at odds with his feelings, and if she didn't say the right thing quickly, she could lose him forever. She looked around her small burrow, the only place she had known since leaving her family to live on her own, and realized it was only a place to escape the weather, and to sleep in. There had to be other burrows out there where they could take shelter, and spend the night together. She knew what she must do if they were to have a future together. "Naito calm down. It's going to be fine. You don't have to stay here. I don't have to stay here. I want to see new places, taste new foods, meet new people and have adventures, but those things won't happen if I stay here. And I too do not wish to do all of those things without you by my side. So, I will leave my burrow, and we can travel the world together. I cannot think of anything I would like more than that." She watched him closely to see what his reaction would be to her suggestion. She could only hope that he would agree to it.

Naito stopped, startled by her suggestion. He blinked a few times, letting it sink in.
"No, I couldn't possibly ask you to leave. I have heard that homes are so very important to some Medaria. Although I've never understood it, probably because I've never had a home, I can understand that you might feel some immense attachment to this place. No, I couldn't ask you to leave."
He took a deep breath and sat down, nervously rubbing his paw over his tail.
"Although I might miss traveling, I think I could stay here, with you. Afterall, you have only known a home and I have never known one, so it seems like it would be a good way for me to learn. And.." he paused, looking away nervously before quickly blurting out the last bit. "It does not seem like a good idea to travel so much if we are to have children. It is not a normal thing for a kit, and I would not want my children to have the same life I did. I would much rather they have a home but that is if you even want to have them because I thought that was what medaria who live together do. Have children."
He looked up at her again, earnest and scared and nervous. "I would like children with you.. someday..."

"But don't you see? I have never had the chance to travel like you have. And I have not lived in this burrow so long that I truly think of it as my home. It is more a place to escape the rain and snow. I actually find sleeping out under the night sky much more enjoyable." She paused to take a breath, as she had not taken a breath since she began speaking. "Maybe it is not a good idea to travel with kits, but I see no reason why we could not travel until such time as kits arrive. I am sure we could find some place adequate to raise them until they are old enough to travel with us, or go off on their own." She walked over to where he was sitting, nervously smoothing the fur on his tail. She sat down next to him and continued. "And Naito, I too would like to have kits with you some day, but until then, I would like to see what the world has to offer, and I would very much like to do that with you."

Naito felt a blush across his cheeks as Lyrica finished talking. She wanted to travel with him and have kits with him. "R-really?" was all he could manage to stammer, unable to believe his ears. He moved a little closer to her, gently nuzzling her cheek. "I am so very happy," he whispered. "I didn't think it was possible to feel this way, but it feels as though my heart will burst with joy. It is like I never knew happiness until I met you.. what an odd feeling this is."

She leaned into him as he nuzzled her cheek. "Oh Naito, I know what you mean. I've never felt this way about another male before. My stomach feels like it has butterfly's in it, and I feel all giddy. We can stay here tonight, and tomorrow we can decide what we want to do. It sounds like the rain has stopped. Maybe we should go outside and see if we can find something to eat. I'm feeling a little hungry." JULY POINTS

Naito twitched his ear, looking up to the ceiling. "Yes, it does sound like it's stopped raining. Today has gone by in such a blur I can't remember the last time I ate." He stretched as he stood up, yawning, then shook his head as if to rid himself of tiredness. "There should be enough light to find food, but we'd better hurry because it's not a good idea to stumble around in the dark at night. I did that once. It was very disconcerting. I fell asleep in a field in the sun, and when I woke it was really dark. I stumbled around for hours, until after the sunset, trying to find a safe place for the night." He wrinkled his nose at the memory. "My feet were not happy about that at all, they hurt quite a lot the next day from all the rocks and twigs I walked into." He started making his way towards the door, then paused to look back at her. "What do you like to eat?"

She stood and followed him to the opening of the burrow. "My favorite thing to eat are berries. There are some bushes not far from here with sweet berries. I haven't gone to see if there are any ready to eat yet, so we could go together." She passed him, and walked out into the cool, evening air. She looked around, and marveled at how everything looked so green after a rainfall. The air was crisp and clean, and she took a deep breath as she waited for Naito to follow her out.

Naito followed her out, a nervous flutter in his stomach. It was all so new and exciting! He took a deep breathe as he walked out. "Everything smells so clean after rainfall, but it doesn't take long for everything to just start smelling wet. I don't really like the wet smell, but it's not the worst thing in the world." He walked a bit away from Lyrica, sniffing the air as he went. He could smell the scent of sweet berries and began following his nose to the patch.
