Okay. You know what. Kainite hunkered down with a deep breath. This was going to be clear as crystal in a second. “I mean, you did ask me on a date before, “ he countered, free hand lifting with his pointer finger, unsurprisingly, pointing upwards at... literally nothing. “And hopefully we’d have more than one of those, so hence the dating, unless - were you hoping for something else?” And he asked that tentatively, kind of like someone says when they’re inviting someone to punch them in the face. Basically the same thing. Gearing up for emotional punch in the face.

Also, again - TV talk was amazing, by the way. “Timmy was my favorite, but I think he was most people’s favorites, and - “ He waved off the praise with the biggest grin. “I’m still wet behind the ears. But I’m getting there. I almost just had a movie, but it fell through last minute.” They’d robbed him and left him in a desert. DETAILS. “There’ll be others, though. You wait and see.”

He felt a tiny pang in his chest, because deep down, he knew he wasn’t really - as close to that big break as he might want to be. But he didn’t let on, and he beamed with pride instead. “I’ll have to bring you along for my big premier one day, “ he declared.

Then, oh, okay, so - “I mean. Of course I want to see you again.” Kainite bad honestly thought that was self-explanatory, written out already. Then again, he was used to being blown off by now. “I like you, Arthur.” It really was as simple as that.

Although his cheeks burned a bit. “But. Uh. I’m not saying no to... other stuff...” because that seemed to be the name they were going with so, cool. “Just, some of that stuff maybe save for like.. third, fourth date type stuff? Or something?”

So sue him for being a romantic (virgin).

Oh thank god he reacted with a smile, because Kainite would've gotten over it but it really would've sucked a lot, and he kind of let out a relieved sigh without realizing he was doing it.

Dates! Stuff!

Oh god. Dates. Stuff.

No no, he had this. He could totally handle this. Wilbur, you're amazing, look at this really handsome magical guy that was excited about the dates and the stuff and with him, okay.

This was fine. This was totally fine.

"Maybe more?" the lieutenant probably should've said that confidently instead of hopefully, but it was fine. Maybe Arthur didn't like a guy that was too pushy. Or maybe he did?

That all seemed to matter a little less with the way Arthur kissed him though, and he felt warmed by those words whispered against his lips, smiling into the second kiss as he went out on a limb and flung his arms loosely around the mauvian's shoulders.

He wondered in the back of his head whether he should be a little more concerned with Arthur being order and all, but like. It wasn't like he was stopping Kainite from doing his thing or fighting him or whatever, so - Bossman would probably understand, right?

Maybe better not to say anything. But it'd be so hard to hide this from his best friend.

... eh, he could worry about that later.

This was probably one of the best days ever - right up there with Aurostibite awakening him for sure. If you'd told him this morning how tonight was going to go - well, Wilbur wouldn't have acted shocked, but -

Kainite kind of gently rubbed at Arthur's shoulders and hummed delightedly into the kiss, shuffling a little closer. After a second it seemed to occur to him to reach up with one hand, sliding his fingertips through the tips of Arthur's hair. With the first one down, kissing wasn't such an intimidating thing - at least with Arthur. It'd be a whole different thing if anyone else tried.

His hands felt nice, too.

Even if it'd been awhile, it felt like the whole thing had passed in a few minutes - literally, Kainite had basically no concept of time right now, and his eyes were a little glaze (in a good way) when Arthur pulled back. Disappointment flickered over the lieutenant's features like a dying candle, but didn't last long - especially since the mauvian really didn't look happy to be saying it.

Still, he couldn't resist. "Are you sure?" Just in case there was any chance he could pull puppy dog eyes and wheedle Arthur into getting his way. It'd literally never worked before, but hey. First time for everything tonight. "I mean... some stuff is okay, " and he didn't even know exactly what that'd be, he was kind of half-saying it like an incentive.

Was it mean to be satisfied with making the decision to go hard? - probably.

Did it mean Kainite was any less that? - nope. It did not.

"Fine, " he said, shooting him 'the look' one more time (it hadn't actually worked, yeah, but he'd never seen anyone visibly so conflicted by it) before breaking out into a big grin. "I'll email you when I get home." Too eager. "If that's alright." Oh god he was making it worse.

Maybe?

No, no, he was totally rocking this. He was going to go home and send Arthur a really cute email and make the mauvian's night. That's what he was thinking to himself in a mantra as he leaned up and pecked Arthur on the lips. "I'll see you soon."

"Deal, " was Kainite's (eager) response, the lingering warmth from the mauvian's lips already fading. He really hoped they would meet again - no, no, hope instead that it was enough to hold him until next time. Kissing someone who wanted to kiss you back was definitely worth all the hype.

"I'll miss you too ... "

And he would watch him walking away for a solid minute or two before he turned to leave himself, grinning into the night and already planning an email in his head.
