Gray shivered, not from the cold but from the presence of the nearby person. She knew they were there, she could sense them.

Mareido cried out as her master lashed out with his hand. It hit her hard, and she fell.
"You better start following the rules. Next time, I won't be so gentle!!" he shouted, leaving the room and slammin the door behind him.
The catgirl crawled into a corner, and wept. Her hair was jagged and dull, her clothing ripped, and her skin pale as the moon. When did he last feed me? When did I last see the sun?
A vivid memory of her master roughl cutting her hair with scissors flashed into her mind. Her master had been so kind until his wife had found the catgirl hiding in his closet. She had left him, and took their son along with her.
He grew angry with Mareido, telling her it was her fault, and hurting her. He demanded that she be his 'lover'. When she failed to comply, she was beaten.
But today was different. His beating were harder than usual, but less often. She was afraid that she was missing something.
Pulling herself to her feet, she peered out of the basement window. The blood from her hands stained the frame, and she fell over. Apparently it was late at night.
Then the door flew open again. Her master? No, it was a woman... A familiar woman... Oh, no!! The wife!!
Claricia had bloodied hands as well and a knife was held in one of them. "My son was killed!!" she shrieked. "By a cat, and you controlled it!! I know..."
Mareido was silent in her confusion.
"Up with you, b****!!" she cried. "NOW!!" Staggering into the room, she collapsed.
Mareido realized her chance of escape, and chose to use it. She found herself in the hallway, standing over her master's limp body.
"I killed him!!" Claricia screamed. "I-!!" She fell again, and her outbursts ended abruptly. She had fallen on the knife!!
Mareido risked nothing. She ran from the house, past the kitchen loaded with food, past the closets of balnkets and clothing, away.
The cop cars arrived as she disappeared into the night. I don't care!! I don't know!! I just... want... out...
