Dezire had given a little jump at the AI. She subconsciously rubbed her hands to try and clean them.

"Two and a half days...almost..." She gave a shiver. "I wonder how many others are alive....if any..." She gave her head a small shake as if to clear it.

Dr. Lanford nodded at the computer's response. It would be an exhilarating conversation if Dr. Landford was capable of sitting down with the computer. That time was not now. Instead, he looked to the Colonel, not so much for guidance as to see what the man would do next.

Scowling Lola looked up at the ceiling where the computer's voice seemed to come from. "Fine Computer, they are not decaying, but they are still littering the floor and unless you plan to clean them up yourself it needs to be done." Rolling her eyes Lola looked at the colonel. "And what have you to say?"

Aine opened her eyes slowly. Her memories coming back to her through the fog and painful headache she was noting with the return of consciousness. As she slowly sat up, fighting the dizziness that now plagued her, her eyes slowly took in her surroundings. And instantly, she wished she was still unconscious. There were others in the hallway, but none of them moved. As her stomach clenched hard on itself, she shakily got up and went to the nearest crew member.

Even though she could see he wasn't breathing, she groped for a pulse. Feeling none, she moved autonomously to the next person. She repeated the process several more times as she moved down the hallway to the bridge, but none had shown even a light pulse.

Numbness slowly spread throughout her being as she started to move towards the bridge, no longer taking in the bodies she seen along the way. Surely if someone else had survived, they'd go there. Yes, they would have to go to the control center on the ship. It was the only logical course of action.

As she came onto the bridge, she looked around at the anxious survivors. Her mind vaguely registering some relief that she wasn't the only survivor. She looked to each of them, noting any emotions they revealed on their faces before looking between Dr. Lanford and the Colonel.

"Do we know what happened or how long we were out for? Anyone experiencing any side effects? And are there any other's who... survived" Her voice had hitched for only a moment, and it was the only sign of emotion she gave off. All of this was simply too much for it. It was so easy to just sublimate her emotions and go on logic. It at least wouldn't fail her.

Dr. Landford saw Aine and moved toward her, motioning her in as he did so.
"It appears that the alien ship is governed by an A.I. It released the chemical that killed the crew, but the intended effect was something more similar to the one we suffered. We are far from certain of anything other than that." The doctor said quietly and calmly so as not to horribly alarm the woman.

He scowled. First, he hated ships. Next, he hated being stuck waiting for something else to dictate his fate. It seemed, more and more, this mission was spiraling out of control. There was definitely going to be hell to pay.

But, simultaneously, there was a wealth of possible information at hand right now.

"Is there anything you can tell us concerning the race that created you? Or, furthermore, why that race mysteriously vanished from the planet we found?"

He crossed the bridge again, looking at the various consoles. While they still showed information skittering across them, it appeared to be more courtesy information. The appearance alone was very bland and mundane. Far less exciting than what they had seen before this incident.

"And why are we critical to your mission? Are we hostages or prisoners?"

Aine looked towards the doctor, her face showing no hints or signs of emotion. She herself still felt utterly numb, taking in the information and processing it quickly. She supposed the difference in anatomy could account for such an error, however she had assumed that the alien medical equipement was sufficient enough to scan the humans on board and simulate whether or not exposure to such chemicals could be toxic. It would be something to re-evaluate on her own before discussing it with Dr. Landford. And with the dialog she had caught the tail end of from Lola, she thought she could safely assume the A.I. was currently interacting with them.

I wonder if there is an area that it can't monitor us in.

Giving the man a small nod was her only real physical change. "I see. Has anyone asked the A.I. then if there are other survivors? The scanners located throughout the ship should prove more then sufficient to answer the question."
PostPosted: Thu Feb 18, 2010 5:10 pm

"We really haven't asked it anything, it's just been deciding what to answer on it's little old lonesome. We're not allowed to find out where we're going, do not override anything or it'll fire upon us, and it didn't mean to kill us."

With that Lola looked around for the nearest chair and sat down on it. Leaning back she crossed her legs and used her arms to support her head. "We've been knocked out for two days, seven hours and fourty-seven minutes according to it's internal clock. Oh and I have a splitting headache because I knocked it pretty bad when I fell." Lola pointed up at her forehead where a livid bruise had formed.

Dr, Landford listened to the women talking, with one eye on the Colonel. He wanted to observe the computer's interactions with the man to feel out exactly what kind of information the computer considered confidential.

"All members with vital signs are presently on the bridge. The summation of all life lost is twenty three units. While losses are unacceptable to the vitality of the mission, the recovered subjects show additional promise in resilience."

"The original intent was to compile a sleeping agent that would have lasted the duration of the current voyage. This sleeping agent was, ultimately, intended to act as a decelerator. Misinformation concerning the human genome proved that certain doses and proportions of the compounds produced non-action within the bodies of those who did not survive. Non-action being, in your words, death. The mistake was caught only after the first several were determined lifeless. By that time, there was no reversible action that could have prevented such a drastic mistake."

"Information regarding the host race is not accessible."

"Information regarding the host race leaving AIK418.3 accessible. The planet fell victim to a siege by the Cho'Vortas. Historical records indicate that .000000183% of host race population survived the assault. Information is assumed due to incomplete records."

"Human occupants are not prisoners or hostages. You are mission critical because you survived a Cho'Vortas assault."

Dr. Landford suddenly perked up at the last statement. Finally, a clue as to what all this mess was about.

"Wait, computer, what are these Choovortas and when did the Human's encounter them?"

As far as Dr. Landford was aware, this was the first alien encounter humans had ever had. Period. The only other talk of aliens was from drunken farmers in rural areas which had occurred for centuries and never held a single touch of merit to them.

Dezire thought about Dr Landford's comments. History class ddin't say anything about alians....well... area 51 but yeah right... She nodded and looked to one of the control screen.

"The Cho'Vortas is the natural enemy to all life. Humanity encountered the Cho'Vortas five months three weeks one day seventeen hours six minutes forty-eight seconds ago."

"Historical records from interwoven systems identify the timestamp to have originated from a vessel named Kayla's Rose, captained by Stephen Lambrent. This timestamp coincides with the discovery of AIK418.3."

Lola crossed her arms and decided to listen to what the computer had to say. It was possible before stepping foot on the Summer's Rain that she had encountered some technology made by the Cho'Vortas but she wasn't sure. Her job had been to steal it, not study it. "Ok computer I have a question, the gas you sprayed us with, was that a Cho'Vortas attack or was it something else that we had previously encountered before coming to this ship?" Turning herself side to side using her foot Lola waited for the computer's response. "Also, do you have a name or do we just refer to you as 'computer'?"

"I have no connection with the Cho'Vortas. This vessel is not contaminated with Cho'Vortas. This vessel is currently a sanctuary. What was released into the air was simply a composition intended to simulate a coma. The effect should have been reversible. The effect should not have been fatal. The error has been noted in my systems and further research has been conducted to ensure such mistakes will be avoided in the future."

"I believe the correct human response is remorse or guilt. I am programed to simulate emotions, however, these responses to a simple mistake cannot compromise the mission at hand. They will be considered appropriate when a more logical time is at hand."

"My designation title is known as Narkelum Warsong. It is also apparent that humanity has not yet discovered the Cho'Vortas despite the obvious attack against humanity."

"To the prescribed date I previously mentioned, Stephen Lambrent and his ship Kayla's Rose were the first initiators of the Cho'Vortas. Upon your descent to AIK418.3, the Cho'Vortas began their assault. The results of the attack did not become apparent to humanity until the human named Marx Morgairan became mysteriously ill. By this point, the process the Cho'Vortas had started is irreversible."

"My mission objective is to secure species samples that have encountered Cho'Vortas but are not yet infected. Decontamination of Narkelum Warsong occurred during atmospheric departure from AIK418.3."
