Cait had just about finished getting out some bread and fending off the puppy from jumping up on the counter when Josh asked her the question she thought she would dread. Somehow, it came with a renewed resolve to fight.

"Josh, you know that I would do anything for you," A strength sounding in her voice, coming from somewhere deep and new to her, "I will do anything that I can to help you, Josh. Anything, I swear it." For a moment, Cait's eye's and voice softened again, "You know, Josh, I've really missed you these last few weeks away. Maybe you would like to do something with me later tonight? We can talk more about the league after lunch. For now, let's get caught up on what's been going on over some sandwiches, okay?"

"I've missed you, too. I'd love to do something later." Josh was overwhelming happy to hear what Cait had said. After everything that had happened, there was still a chance they could-

The dog suddenly went nuts, pacing around the kitchen and whining loudly. "What the heck is wrong with you?" Josh asked as he got down to the dog's level. As soon as he left his chair, he felt a strange tingle in the back of his neck. The dog raced by again and Josh reached out to grab him, only to whack his funny bone on the chair he had just left. He yelped in pain and rubbed his elbow furiously.

"Aww, poor thing...bet that wasn't a very funny place to hit your elbow," Cait laughed as she brought a plate of sandwiches over to the table, and then bending down to help Josh up off the floor, "You nutcase, don't you know better than to play with dog's on a saturday? It's supposed to be bad ju-ju! Come here, lets dine." Cait popped in another coffee pod in the downstairs machine and returned to the table.

"I'm sorry that I didn't really talk to you much after Channel Q. I'm really glad you are doing alright. I worried about how you were doing with all those nasty bumps and bruises. What did your mother think when she saw you?"

"Thanks," Josh gratefully bit into his sandwich only to discover the bread was stale. Well, stale might be too strong a word. The bread was on the verge of being stale, but was certainly still edible. It didn't taste bad, just kind of... meh. Josh put down the sandwich and tried to shake the still-throbbing pain out of his arm. Though, perhaps "throbbing" is too strong a word, too. It still hurt, but not all that badly. It was really more of an annoyance. Josh realized Cait had been speaking to him and looked up apologetically.

"Sorry, Cait, I've just got this weird feeling all of a sudden. What did you say?"

Cait frowned. Things had been going so well, and now they were back to normal. Josh was ignoring her again, and she sighed. "I said I was glad you looked like you were doing okay, and asked what your parents said when they saw you? Did you have to lie about it?"

While she was speaking, she had picked the crusts off her sandwiches and fed them to Maximus the Dunder Dog, because Josh had neglected to buy dogfood when he purchased the cutie-pie for her. He had failed to think that far in advance, once again. There was just something too cute about him, so his mistakes and flubs didn't matter. In fact, Josh was a lot like a cute little puppy.

"You know, it's the weirdest thing. My mom didn't even ask any questions, she was just right there with the aloe, ice and Band-aids. And my dad told me I didn't need to worry about my chores until I was feeling better. Sometimes I wonder if they know I'm Captain Pasty... Naw, saying it makes it seem so silly. How could they know? My costume completely conceals my identity." The weird sensation that had been plaguing Josh was fading, though the bread on his sandwich didn’t taste any better. He sat watching Cait feed the dog for a few minutes before it finally hit him. "Aw, darn it! I forgot to get dog food!"

Cait sat quietly after hearing Josh talk about his parents. He was lucky, even if his parents knew they would still suppport him. Her busybody nervous mother would never understand. She slipped the puppy a peice of bologna as Josh realized he'd forgotten to get dog food, and she laughed. "I was wondering if you would realize that. You feeling up to returning to the petstore? We could take the puppy for a walk through the park on the way? Maybe get out and talk some more in a little while? I'm still recovering though, it'll be a little while before I'm okay to walk that far. Maybe another cup of coffee. Can I get you something to drink?"
