Lance gave a smile and rolled his shoulders. "Just stiff don't worry." He said yawning. He didn't want Mali to know that he had been hurt by him, he didn't want the boy to know that he could be hurt at all. "What time is..." He looked at the clock and sighed, "nine-thirty". He really should have got up earlier. "Got to go love." He pulled away from the child. "Now... Do you have any leads for me?" he joked playfully. Lance got out of bed and walked words the suitcase as it sat upright near the door.

"Any leads for you?" Mallory was confused by the question and tilted his head with a smile, lying on his belly to watch Lance. He was still worried, but knew that Lance would not want him to, and so he covered it the best he could with a smile. "Am I to stay here in the apartment today?" He did not want to upset Lance again, and so he asked, intending to defer to whatever answer his beloved gave. Though he supposed Barry would likely have important things to do as well... which would leave him entirely alone in this still fairly new to him place. I will do as he asks me; I owe him that much after frightening him.

"Job leads." He clarified and opened the suitcase, taking out a dress shirt and slacks. He also took out his cell phone and tossed it on the bed next to Mallory. "You can go out, but please don't do anything stupid, Stay where a lot of people can see you, only as old women for help if you get lost, don't talk to anyone who looks like they haven't bathe din the last week." He couldn't ask the boy to stay cooped up in the apartment all day. Lance himself had been wandering New York when he was Mallory's age and Mallory was a vampire so he---But what if another vampire found him! Lance's mind was in a constant fight with himself and it's headache. He was a little stressed.

Mallory grinned when Lance said he could go out. He nodded as Lance gave him further instructions. "I will be very careful and I will not stay out long. I won't give you any reason to worry, love." He hoped to reassure the vampire who he could see was having some second thoughts about allowing Mallory to go out unsupervised. He could easily follow the rules Lance had set out; he would be careful not to get lost at all as he very much disliked not knowing where he was. As wonderful as the permission was, Mallory had to remind himself not to stay out long. The longer he was outside the apartment, the more he would worry Lance. He did not want that.

Lance could not have been more worried if Mallory was his own child, at least if he had raised The boy he would have been more confident in his survival abilities. "Just call Number one on speed dial if anything goes wrong ok?" he said sighing. The man stood and dressed quickly then walked into the bathroom to wash his face and apply make up. Once he was sure he looked as charming as his current state would allow he stepped back into the bedroom. "I have my pager, but.. please don't get in harm's way today." He practically begged. Lance's inner mind was begging him to just crawl back into bed and wait for Barry to come home so he would not feel like asking Mali for any blood back just to tied him over... He leaned down over the bed and kissed Mallory leavening a lipstick stain on the boy's lips. "Wish me luck." He said and walked out of the bedroom into the living room. He snagged one of Barry's ties out of a laundry basket and tied it loosely around his neck.

Mallory nodded obediently, picking up the phone and opening it. He had never owned a cell phone, but the device seemed fairly straight forward. "Nothing will go wrong, my love. I will be very careful." It worried him that Lance was so concerned; just how dangerous was it out there? Perhaps he should wait inside after all.. No, no that would not do at all. How could he call this place his home if he was more afraid here than in Tamatha? He would just have to be very careful and not worry his adoré. Lance kissed him and Mallory smiled. "Good luck, mon amour."

Lance sighed in the doorway of the apartment. Barry had left very early that morning and so he had no way to warn him that he was the number one person in charge of looking after Mallory's wellbeing on that first day. "Love you! " Lance said as he closed the door behind him. He made him way downstairs and out onto the street. He waked quickly it was a brisk morning, and a slight breeze tussled his loose hairs. IT took a half hour to walk to his first stop, it was an old club he use to work at, and he knew the owner quite well.

Mallory rose from the bed when Lance was gone and went into the bathroom for his morning ablutions. A soft chuckle left him as he cleaned away the slight smear of lipstick. Such makeup on a man that was not acting on stage seemed strange to him. And yet, it did not bother him at all that Lance wore it. Lance was certainly not a woman, nor did Mallory really think he acted like one. But the strange clothing and makeup did not phase him at all.
Leaving the bathroom, Mallory carefully dressed, making certain none of the clothing carried an unpleasant scent from use the previous day. he then gave the cell phone one last examination to make sure he understood how to use it before slipping the device in his pocket. Finally, he could go outside!
Deliberately slowing his steps so as not to appear too eager, Mallory made his way out of the apartment and out of the building. So, this was New York! What was there to see? Mallory smiled brightly as he chose a direction and began to walk. Show yourself to me, New York. No need to be shy. I assure you I am a gentleman of impeccable manners. Mallory promised in his head as though the city itself was a coquettish young lady he intended to court.

After stopping in five different clubs The clock was showing three in the afternoon and Lance was starting to get exhausted. He sat down on a bench outside of his last job location and closed his eyes momentarily trying to recapture his self control. 'Hey Lance, only a few more hours' he thought to himself breathing deeply. The man had never been this determined or responsible before, but with Mallory around he didn't feel like he could take any risks that might lead to unpleasantness between them. 'ok. get up' he told himself and stood to move on.

New York was a busy and bustling place. Mallory walked in a very simple pattern, but the rushing people and crowds of blank faces still made him feel a little lost just to be among them. What a cold place; no one even looking at each other or pausing to give greeting. How did anyone stand it? How did they live? It just seemed as though everyone had somewhere to be ten minutes ago and there was no time, no time.
Mallory was feeling a little discouraged by New York and was about to turn back when he heard... could it be? Yes, he heard music! The boy pushed through the dense crowd, muttering apologies into the sea of bodies he displaced to find the source of that sound. It was no radio either; his sharp ears could tell. Someone was creating music, and he would see the faces of these people! He would see them and delight in them and New York would finally show him something to treasure!
Finally Mallory burst in on a strange sight by a subway. A lady and a gentlemen performed together, the former with spoons and buckets to approximate drums and the latter with a guitar that had seen better days. But they were happy; smiles spread on their dark lips and their heads swayed from side to side, their dreaded hair taking up the movement. They intermittently called out to the passing crowd and sang. And as Mallory watched, a few people did stop, if only for a few moments.
He wanted a piece of it, this beautiful creation in the midst of a city that sought to ignore it, but could not completely. The music made his body want to move and the boy gave in. He started to rock and sway, letting the rhythm guide him in steps only half familiar. This was nothing he would have done in his father's studio; he had the grace, but lacked the structure. He did not care for routine, only movement and music.
The musicians seemed mildly confused by Mallory at first, but the guitarist grinned and nodded toward him. They accepted him into their creation and Mallory was flushed with enjoyment. Around them things were much as they had been before. Occasionally people stopped and listened for a moment. Some tossed a bit of money into an open guitar case Mallory had not at first noticed. A few even watched him in particular and he favored them with bolder, almost sexual movements. Not that he was fully even aware of that; he was still a complete virgin and had not experienced the pleasures his dance was meant to emulate. He gave it no thought, not even embarrassed by the few surprised and delighted hollers amongst the crowd. Oh, this was fun! He was so glad he had not gone back to the apartment yet!

He now had to take the subway, this would be hard, but he could do it. After boarding he got off in the station nearest the apartment, he could sense a vampire near and heard music, then he caught a glimpse of Mallory dancing. His heart almost stopped he wanted to drag the boy away and hide him from the dangers of getting people's attention like that, but he couldn't bring himself to interrupt the boy he looked like he was enjoying himself. He stood back in the crowd and moved to stand about fifty yards away against the wall, he would keep an eye on the boy to make sure no one messed with him. Lance’s veins throbbed as another wash of thirst overtook him, he could sense all the warm living bodies around him and he had to close his eyes and focus on the music to stop from literally springing forward and killing one of the passers by.

As he was dancing, a familiar presence nagged at Mallory's mind, but he at first ignored it. He was too deeply entrenched in his own enjoyment to even make out for certain who it was he sensed. He had given over body and mind to dance and, for Mallory, that dedication was an all consuming thing. It flowed through him, controlled him and moved him like a living puppet on invisible strings.
A light sheen of sweat was beginning to cool on his cheeks when the music finally stopped and released him from its bonds. Mallory was on his knees, back arced and eyes on the sky. Some of those watching applauded, but he could scarcely even hear it over his own heartbeat, his own private rapture. But he had put on a show and a performer did not neglect his audience, so Mallory soon got to his feet.
"Merci beaucoup, mes ami!" He kissed his fingertips and spread his arms before taking a deep bow. And when he straightened, Mallory treated the surprised musicians to a kiss on each cheek, still murmuring his thanks in giddy French. They took it surprisingly well, laughing and patting the strange French boy on the back.
Only then could Mallory meld with the crowd once more, seeking out Lance. He'd felt Lance and now was eager to see him. "Adoré! When did you get here? Such wonderful people, adoré! And the music; did you hear? Ah, how their music made me want to dance! I could not help myself."

Lance applauded along with the crowd and smirked when the boy kissed his musicians. He was growing bolder. "I've only been here a few minutes, so don't worry, and yes I heard, that is why I love this city, you can find such acts of creative freedom everywhere.” He reached out and fixed the boy’s hair lovingly. “You dance beautifully.” He commented, mentally vowing to himself to never let the boy dance in a club, he was far too talented. He pushed away from the wall and stood tall next to his partner, his eyes looked over at the musicians, they had been kind, and understanding, he would have to find a way to help them out later if he could. “Much better than I had imagined.” He teased playfully, running his index finger down the boy’s jaw line.

"I am so very glad I found such a thing today. This place... at first I feared everyone in it was walking dead. But now, adoré! Now I see this New York, she is a beautiful lady. A lovely treasure hidden in rags, like the cinder girl from the stories. She is wondrous, mon amour! I wish to see more. Mmm, soon but not now. You must be tired from your day. Did you have luck?" Mallory was so excited he let out an almost girlish giggle when Lance ran a finger along his jaw. Then the boy feigned a pout, lowering his lashes teasingly. "Better than you had imagined? I did tell you I am good. It is not ego, mon cher; dance sings in my blood!" Still in his excited and hyperactive state, he could not resist rising to his toes to kiss his love.

Lance kissed the boy back gently but then stood taller so that he was out of reach from his love. He was contemplation how he would get the boy to leave so that he could have a word with one of the musicians who were packing up. "Sweets, "I'm on my way home, but Can you do ma a favored?" He took out his wallet and found a five dollar bill; he placed it in Mallory's breast pocket and kissed his cheek softly. "Can you run down to the corner deli and pick up a half a pound of smoked turkey?" He had meant to get some himself at some point in time as a gift for Barry, but had forgotten. “Thanks love.” He patted the boy’s shoulder and gestured that he should hurry.
