“Telgar Hold, eh? Nice.” He replied with a curt nod, “I’m from Benden Hold myself, lived there all my life prior to coming here. My father’s a gardener there, I was apprenticed to him before being searched, and now my brother is. To be honest, I always thought I’d follow in Father’s footsteps, never would I have imagined any of this.” N’kal gestured to the large cavern surrounding them in an emphasis to his words. He lowered his arms and smiled sheepishly to his companion, “Ah, I’m afraid I’m rambling again, aren’t I?”
His next question seemed to catch the weyrling by surprise, and N’kal slid his hands into his pants pockets as the younger spoke, “I guess you do,” he replied, smiling still, “and I suppose I don’t really have much room to talk, I always was bad about connecting with my fellow weyrlings. Aleith would throw a fit and everyone knows I’d do anything to keep him happy.”

Even so, Hana couldn't help but chuckle at the girl's response. She knew she must have been just as disoriented after her Impression as Ichidou was--as most new weyrlings were--but it felt like so long ago; she could barely remember a time that she hadn't been with Larth, and it hadn't been right.
"Don't worry. You're feeling all of Ursidaeth's emotions too, now, but you'll get used to it."
As she said them, Hana realized her words didn't sound as comforting as she had meant them to be. She could only hope that Ichidou would be at least a little bit reassured by them. The girl already seemed to be on edge. And if Hana couldn't manage to encourage a single weyrling, how was she going to be able to handle a whole brood once their lessons began?
They were both silent for several moments. Hana couldn't help but feel awkward as Ichidou fidgeted and looked around. Completely at a loss, she glanced in the direction that Ichidou kept eyeing as she fidgeted around. As far as Hana could tell, the girl was focused on a group of dragonriders and weyrlings who seemed to be chatting, eating, and generally enjoying the party--at least for the most part, she noted, as one of the group stormed off.
"Have you met your clutchmates, yet?" she asked, nodding toward the group. "I bet they wouldn't mind if you joined them."
Really, Hana had no idea if they would care or not--or if Ichidou herself was even interested--but it seemed like the right, werylingmaster sort of thing to say. Or maybe the way she had said it was too forward? A look of distress began to cross Hana's face, even as she tried to maintain a reassuring smile. She had no idea what she was doing when it came to dealing with weyrlings, but she had to learn sooner or later--hopefully before the first time she had to stand in front of the group to teach them about their duties as dragonriders.

Tertiath looked through her bonded's eyes when Minno's attention to her was abruptly changed. A girl walking away in a huff. She didn't dare ask her beloved, she was already told to go to sleep, and she didn't want to wreck her rider's mood anymore.
She felt soothing thoughts from her rider, and was just about to go to sleep, when Tertiath noticed the glowing lights coming from the eyes of some of her clutchmates. So she wasn't the only one awake.
Well then, it wouldn't hurt to visit with one of them. She'd be meeting more tomorrow anyway, and this would only take a couple minutes. Then she'll go to sleep.
Tertiath got off of her little bed, and walked over to Ghinath.
Hello there, she said quietly. I am Tertiath. You are?

"Yes, disappointment is always hardest to deal with," Ixiara said thoughtfully, thinking quietly to herself. The conversation's trend towards parental figure reminded her that her own family had been conspicuous only by their absence. She wondered a little at it, but there was work to do... and the last person she could see dropping a job was her father. Still... her mother might have come, at least.
"Do either of you know someone who would be willing to loan a fire lizard's services out?" She asked, looking up from the table. "I was originally planning on waiting for a runner to be available, but I think I'd like to send a letter home quickly. This isn't something to delay telling my parents." She smiled, referring to her new weyrlife. In the back of her mind Ixiara was vaguely conscious that Ghinath's attention had diverted.
She had been lounging quietly on her cot, her first eyelid half closed, listening to her rider's thoughts and watching the feast through her eyes. She rolled her head slightly to the side to observe her green sister as she approached, a somewhat lazy draconic smile on her face.
Greetings and a good evening to you, Tertiath, Ghinath answered, blinking slowly and raising her head. I am Ghinath. Are you having difficulty sleeping, perhaps? Or are you watching your weyrmate, as I am?

A little trouble yes, said Tertiath. She sat beside Ghinath's little cot. Mine wants me to go back to sleep, I do not want to yet.
Tertiath looked through her weyrmate's eyes. The cavern was full of people. Lots were sitting and eating, or standing and talking, or dancing to the music. She'd have to ask her rider how it was in the morning.
Who, and where is yours? she asked. Mine is close to the outside of the cavern, talking to two others who Impressed. She wears a green dress, like my hide. Her name is Minno.

Ghinath obligingly moved over to allow Tertiath to be comfortable. She delicately laid her head down over her forfeet and bespoke Ixiara.
There is a girl in a green dress standing somewhere on the edge of the crowds. Wave to her, please. Ixiara was surprised by the request, but glanced around the hall. Spotting the girl her dragon had spoken of she slowly raised her hand to slightly above her shoulder before turning back to B'ron and Daria.
What was that about?
I'm simply showing you off, Ghinath thought smugly. To Tertiath, she said I have asked my rider to greet yours. She has done so. She paused a little, considering Tertiath and tilting her head slightly. Your Minno may have a point. Ixiara, my girl, has been imagining the work they will have us do. She thinks that we will need sleep. Ghinath added a touch of skepticism to her last sentence.

Minno was a little surprised when she saw a girl wave at her. Out of politeness she waved back.
The sound of drizzling rain entered her mind. Do not worry Min, Tertiath said to her. That was Ixaria, rider of green Ghinath. I am talking to Ghinath right now. She asked hers to greet you.
Tertiath, I thought I told you to go back to sleep, Minno thought a little sternly.
You did, but I wanted to talk to some of my clutchmates first.
Please go back to sleep dear. There will be a lot of work for us tomorrow. And besides, you can talk to them then too.
Alright. Tertiath said reluctantly.
To Ghinath she said, Min has been thinking of that too. She also want me to go back to sleep now. I'll see you in the morning then. Good night. Tertiath walked back to her cot and lay down to go back to sleep.

Silence pervaded for a moment, as Ichidou pondered Hana's words with a curious twist of the lips, and a slight furrow of the brow. At last, after a lengthy measure of words the weyrling spoke, and spoke as sardonically as possible. "Thanks, I feel so much better now." Surprisingly enough, she did - but not for any ounce of 'wisdom' Hana had imparted upon her. As the newly appointed weyrling master continued spiraling into awkward territory, the brighter Ichidou's face looked. It was a sordid thing to contemplate, but knowing that you weren't the only one in strange territory did present a sense of comfort.
"...I don't want to greet them, actually. I don't have anything in common with those people." Drumming her fingers on her cup, Ichidou smirked out of habit. This was amusing. "You know, I don't think anyone's watching. You don't have to impart pearls of wisdom - I'd actually rather not go down that path." The furrow in her brow had smoothed itself out, at this point, her smirk a not one of derision and scorn, but entertainment. She'd save them both the trouble.
"Your name's Hana, right?" Now, if only she was better at selecting new topics of discussion. Quickly scanning the room, her eyes weren't actually seeing the people any longer, but rather the thoughts running amok in her head. A gurgling chortle from an intoxicated rider gave her her prompt, however. "...does everyone always get this drunk? Or is this just a special occasion?"

"I could let you use my Vith," Daria offered. "He's usually just lazing around with Marenth so it would do him good to be useful for once." The little blue firelizard popped into the air near Daria and she chuckled at Vith's reaction. She talked about him so little that he had to appear when she did mention him. He landed on her shoulder and rubbed his head against her cheek.

N'gal stood thoughtful for a moment. "Well, I'm not the headwoman but I can take you over to the Resident Dormitory. If we don't encounter the headwoman herself we should be able to find other residents who could help." N'gal noted Drusilla rubbing her arms. "Do you want to borrow my jacket?"

"That would be nice," Drusilla nodded, answering the first one, though she didn't quite realize she'd answered both. She didn't notice though, because something was kind of bugging her though, and a senior rider seemed to be the best person to ask. "Do people ever, I mean, if they don't impress the first time, do they ever impress?"

N'gal took off his jacket and gave it to her. "Yes, it happens to a lot of people, especially weyrbrats. Not impressing may mean that the dragon suitable for you wasn't in that clutch." N'gal let that statement sink in before indicating the direction of the Resident Dormitory with his hand. "Shall we find you that room?"

"Oh," Hana said softly. What else could she say to a response like that? She wondered if she should point out that it would be easiest if Ichidou got to know her clutchmates, given how much time they would spend training together, but that would probably would have been one of the "pearls of wisdom" she claimed not to want. Point out that it didn't matter that no one was watching probably wouldn't impress the girl, either. So she just sighed and kept her mouth shut until Ichidou changed the subject.
"Yes, I'm Hana. I'm the new weyrlingmaster; I'll be training you and Ursidaeth," she added, unsure of how much the girl knew.
"Well, it is a special occasion," she said as she looked around the hall. Hana was finally beginning to feel relieved that she had refused the mugs of ale offered to her. It seemed Ichidou hadn't heard any stories about how Hana could act when she was drunk, and Hana was glad she was currently showing the girl. "You'll find out soon enough how stressful the life of a dragonrider--and even a weyrling--can be. It's good to celebrate every once in a while, to relieve that stress."

Dru was surpised to suddenly have the jacket, and surprisingly happy to find that she may not have to leave just yet. With a small smile and a nod she put the jacket over her shoulders, glad it was still warm. "Thank you, but, could you lead the way maybe?" She knew very little about the wyer and didn't want to be leading the way.

N'gal nodded and started off towards the resident dormitory, wondering idly how often he would find himself going that way. He ought to check on Katherina. "What do you think of the Weyr so far? It's been awhile since I first came."

"Honestly? I hate it." Druslla pulled her arms closer to herself. "It's too cold and eveyone acts like they're the best thing since air. But I can't go home because my father died and the master smith is making me stay here." She huffed angrily as she followed the rider, the damn master was a freakin sadist and a sexist. "Can we slow down? My leg got sliced open today during th hatching."
