Hey Kid, a follow up to this discussion--I was searching for something else but found a Washington Times article on the subject of the thread. Interesting juxaposition between the articles quoted and this one...

Sorry, I've got a really odd rant.
Why do people take the Lord's name in vain? It's like, if you believe in God, then you should have enough respect not to fling the word around whenever something surprises you. If you don't believe, then why call upon something you don't believe exists? Why not ask the favor of someone you actually believe holds power, like... the President of the United States of America, or something.
Like, "Oh my Bush!" "Bill Gates damn you!" "For the love of Halliburton!"
You can even make a stupid cute Internet abbreviation out of it. Instead of "OMG", it's "OMGWB!"
I'm not particularly religious, but taking the Lord's name in vain just seems really crass to me; there's really no point in doing it.

Formic Though I must say that I replied rather well to her last statements: Quote: You attribute McCarthy to being a Fascist, and therefore discount his opinion in the world. You attribute Ann Coulter to Fascist Ideals, and therefore discount her oninions in the world. You say I support them, therefore I am in the same quarter as them. Therefore, you can dismiss me, correct? It sounds like you have become what you hated, Ms. Ninja. You use the accusations of an extremist ideology to force others into silence, just as you believe McCarthy did. Fascist. Wow you got her good biggrin I've spared* with her on a number of occasions. She is alot like Michael Moore...alot of bullshit very little substance. *in this instance "spared with" means "bulldozed"

Kazuma Formic http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3966826&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 Second Post, starting with i_am_10_ninjas, and going for the next two pages. Still ongoing, and I still can't get her to say that I am not a fascist, and that she has no grounds to call me so. scream <- *wants to use this another dozen times* Everything to that nitwit is a facist. I don't think she can actually make a post without using her favorite "F" word crutch. For example, the movie Hero is apparently fascist (don't let the fact that it came from China fool you) xd Yeah even if a movie originates in a foriegn country...it is the Republicans that are behind it. I also find it funny that she thinks there are enough right-leaning actors on the planet to make a propaganda film....

Sadly, too many folks are far too irreverant to care about taking the Lord's name in vain, or using profanity to excess. And the older generations, such as those who fought in WWII and Korea, cringe every time. It is a sad statement about the decline of our society that people cannot even be courteous or polite any more... crying

The L ORD's Name has become a catch-all swear for people when they are just too dim to think of anything else to say. It's a wonder that agnostics and athiests use it, as they have no god, and religious people are expressly forbidden to do so. You know what's sad, though? I've lurked in the Lord of the Rings subforum, and some people say "By God" or something like that, only replacing "God" with the name of the godlike deity in LotR, Eru.

I knew a girl once who would always say, "Oh my soul!". I thought it was cute, but it always cracked me up. So I'd snicker, and she'd get mad. Sigh...

It appears to me to be another example of mod double standard, whether intentional or not. There are at least three threads on the Duelfer report on the first page. All three started by forum lefties and members of that moderator's guild: HereHereand HereYet they decide its time to slap down the "repeat threads" when a member of this guild makes one.

Well, I'm fighting it, and I was a good girl and didn't say what first came to mind! I saw nothing resembling mine in the front page...and he was rude. It's hard to take someone seriously when they are rude...
*waiting to see which other libs decide to pounce on it*

It's hard to take someone seriously when they are rude... *waiting to see which other libs decide to pounce on it* Of course he's rude...he's a moderator blaugh he's "fair and balanced" Luckily, I haven't brought the mods down on me yet...for some reason they don't mind me being more insistent in posts. Though I do admit it felt wierd to agree with Reinhard Heydrich...I'm not that conservative redface

The moderators have alot to learn about being courtious and evenhanded. I learned that lesson in the moderation of the guild and have not repeated that mistake. If Gaia is going to allow people to be able to moderate the whole of the website they should take some serious effort to instilling the same lesson to their moderators.

Well, he is still being rude and very biased. I have told him my view of the issue, and have told him to delete it "as is his function"--probably really pissed him off, don't care at this point. I did not find anything resembling my thread on the front page, still don't see the ones he pointed out... stressed
But I am in a snit today, not ready to lay down and take his bullshit...
