Nari closed her eyes as Astrid gently touched her temples, and she breather in, letting the sweet smell of cinnamon tickle her senses.
"It's nothing, really," Nari answered Astrids question. "I just...." She hesitated. How was she to explain this? She didn't want to lie to Astrid, for she had been so kind. But would she believe her is she told the truth. Maybe, maybe not. Perhaps it was a risk she had to take.
"I just...." she began again. ".... it's hard to explain. I got a mind shield...." her voice trailed off, and she closely watched Astrid for any sign of her thinking Nari was strange.

"Something like that would disrupt the regular patterns of your brain," Astrid conceded softly, not looking at all like she thought the other girl was weird. Of course, if she did, wouldn't that be the pot calling the kettle black, hmm? The thought almost made her smile. Almost.
"Why do you think you need a mind shield?" she asked, more curious than anything, though the thought that Nari thought she was strange was also in her mind.

Thyrza was now in a huffy state. She rose, walking briskly over towards the direction she had seen Marth amble off to towards an alley-way and shook her head.
"Master Marth, we really should be going before I have to retreat to shelter aga--..." she paused. He looked a bit battered up and she sighed. "This only furthers my suggestion."
She walked over and lifted an arm across her shoulder. For all she knew, he was attacked because she was being hunted.
"You can leave your things here. I can show you things that are edible on our journey. Tell your friends goodbye. The sooner we depart, the better you'll be..."

"I can't leave my things..." He looked up at the young girl and sighed, shaking his head. "Those are my only possesions I own..."

Nari gave Astris an almost relieved look. She hadn't thought it strange for her ta have a mind shield. Neither ad Nari. At least not before. But now when Astrid asked why it was needed, she hesitated and had to think for a bit.
"I'm not really sure...." she said slowly, a light frown of her brows. "The Elders of my village gave it to me before I departed."
Nari almost shivered at the memory. The Elders hadn't been at all as skilled as Ember, and the pain her untrained mind had gone through had lasted for days, something the Elders had not counted on.
Nari pushed the memory back and shook her head lightly. She knew why the sheild existed, partly at least, but she did not dare reveal it. The fewer who knew, the safer she felt. She hadn't told anyone. The only other outside of ther village that knew was Ember, since it involved him, and Ruby, since she was a part of her mind.
"I'm not allowed to tell anyone," she said.
And now you have given away that it is a big secret, Ruby said in the back of her head. Good girl. Now people will have all the more reason to snoop.
I really doubt Astrid would snoop around in my head, Nari thought back. She seems like a nice girl, and I'm actually thinking about helipng her out.
You don't have to tell me what you think. No matter how many shields you place, you can't keep me out. But really, Nari, what't the point of following her back to those mounatins? She's got that wolf, she can take care of herself.
But still.... I'm thinking about it.
Ruby made the mental version of rolling her eyes and sighing deeply. She clearly wasn't happy with Naris decision.

"I understand," Astrid said reassuringly, though she was curious. Generally, the girl asked a question if it came to mind, but she knew when she needed to keep them to herself, dispite whatever Sasha said.
"If you're feeling a little better," she said after a moment, "why don't you come back downstairs and finish your meal? It might help..."

Glad that Astrid accepted her vague explanation without quetioning more - and thereby proving Ruby wrong - Nari nodded and rose to her feet with a smile.
"Sounds like a good idea. I had almost forgotten about it."
She walked out of the room and closed the door behin Astrid. She took a quick peek in Marths room, but it was empty. She figured he waited down staird, but when she followed Astrid down to the bottom floor, she couldn't see him anywhere. And not Thyrza either. She blinked a bit surprised.
I guess they left.... Thyrza seemed to be in a hurry.... she thought.
They left because you're such a slowpoke, Ruby said. Nari sighed lightly and said nothing, thought she figured Ruby was right.
Well then, if they have left already, then I'm free to go with Astrid. Nari brightened up by the thought of this, and with a smile she sat down by the table to finish her meal.
You can't fool me, Nari. You're sad they left without even saying goodbye. Really sad.
Of course I am, Nari answered while digging into the garlic breads again. They had cooled down. It was true, she was sad that Marth had left without a word. But she figured he had his reasons, and the young Thyrza seemed to have been eager to leave in a hurry.
"Astrid, did you see Marth and Thyrza leave?" Nari Asked . "I can't see them around, so I thought they left already. In that case, I could show you the way, if you stillwant. It's not fun to travel alone, and not safe either."
Nari paused as she realized she was bladdering. Quickly she put a piece of bread in her mouth and concentrated on chewing.

Though she was still somewhat concerned, Astrid led the way back into the dining room, where all of the people had moved over to one side. Apparently, Sasha had walked back in and sat under their table to make sure nothing happend to their food. Or his food, which was more important.
"The girl is in a big hurry to leave," he said, not bothering to lift his head from his bowl. "Why Astrid, I don't think she likes me."
"You're such a butthead sometimes, you know that?" she thought back, trying to stifle a sigh or any other reaction that might indicate she was talking with him. "Do you even know why she wants to leave?"
"Other than because I'm a butthead? If she needs another reason, its probably because she doesn't want to be around these people. Oh, and the fight Marth just got into outside might be a reason, too." This gave her a little bit of pause, but she tried to cover it up by coughing a little when she stopped mid-way down the stairs.
"Excuse me," she said somewhat sheepishly. "I saw them walk outside, but Marth still has all of his stuff upstairs. I doubt he'd leave without it; they're probably still out there."

Nari stopped chewing and glanced at Astrid before swallowing.
"Really?" she asked, and mentally kicked herself hard for assuming they would leave just like that. "Well... uhm....that's good."
Suddenly she was lost for words. Whatever had made her think that they would leave so quickly? Ruby answered that question with a dry remark:
Your low self-asteem.
Nari almost nodded. It was true. She looked down on the almost empty plate.
"I think they are waiting for me," she said after pausing for a bit. "Maybe I should go to them and ask."
She rose from her seat and grabbed the last piece of bread and placed it in the pocket of the robe she still hadn't returned to Marth. The she smiled at Astrid.
"Thank you for everything, Astrid. It's been a pleasure, and I hope we meet again."
She gave a slight bow with her hands to her chest - a native sign of respect, almost like a salutation. Then she hurried to the front door, but as she was about to open the door, a nagging feeling of having forgott something hit her. She turned around to look at the table, but there was none of her belongings there.
The room, she thought and quickly ran up the stairs.

Marth had gone into the tavern, with or without the young girl. He couldn't just leave Nari behind, not after asking her to see her home. He nodded to Astrid and moved up the stairs quickly to get to his room, quickly gathering his things. He looked down at his bag and twitched...That smell...Ember...He was in here, why though?
What business would that man have going through his bag? He lifted it and made sure everything was in place, shaking his head slowly when he saw everything was. "Psycho..." He muttered quietly, though...He wasn't sure he had much room to speak...He shrugged it off and placed the bag onto his side, strapping it onto his belt. "Hmm...I guess...That girl would have to come....Even if she didn't want to...." He grinned a bit, he would feel like an a** for what he had planned, but....It would buy just a little more time for the girl to follow. She would have to follow him until the time, and he would simply have to try to catch her again...It didn't seem fair to just take advantage of the poor girl though, but it was the only thing he could think of to get her to follow them.
