My totem animal is the Coyote. It fits my personality with being sneaky and playing jokes constantly. I met her in meditation, and converse with her regularly.

I'm not sure but crows have certainly been following me around lately. I've been thinking of trying to attempt some sort of vision quest thing to find out.

Please do post it. I would really really like to know my totem animal.
I hope it's a wolf. I have a really strong feeling whenever I even think of them. And my friends have actually said I'm like a wolf.

My totem animal, or animal familiar, is a raven.
RAVEN:
Magic, Healing, Creation
If a raven totem has come into our life,
magic is at play.
Raven activates the energy of magic
and links it to our will and intention.
With this totem, we can make great changes
in our life;
the ability to take the unformed thought
and make it reality.
The raven shows us how to go into the dark
of our inner self and bring out the light of our true self;

I always fell my familiar is perched uponmy shoulder watching over me.
If in your dreams your animal seems to be avoiding you or makes an angry gesture towards you it usually mean you have not been being yourself or you are doing something that you shouldnt be doing. Just a bit of interesting info.

Alright I would like to say something on the topic and by no means am I trying to sound snarky or elitist in the belief. And not disagreeing with anyone else on the matter. Just adding some input.
"I'm not a shaman, but I am native american and have been taught a bit in our traditions."
But to the people that aren't sure of what their spirit guide is, it takes quite a while for it to come to you, so patience's is a must while seeking it. As we know some animals are very shy and timid, so they won't always make they're presence known to you at first and it IS a must that the animal comes to you, not the other way around.. Some people think that you can just pick it, but it doesn't work that way.. Also Medicine cards isn't a way to find them, Medicine cards are just another type of tarot in a sense, they give you a animal that symbolizes certain medicine and how it applies to you in a situation and in your life. That's all. So if you really want to find you're totem animal, meditate and put lots of concentration into it and like others have said, once it comes to you, build a bond with it and get things to show it that you appreciate it.
Edit: And asking someone to find it for you, is an absolute no go! If anyone that claims to be a shaman and offers to find one for you, they're more than likely not.
It doesn't have to be in a materialistic way either, if you know of a spot where your animal lives, visit there and talk with them. My guide is an otter and I know of a lake where there's a mated pair, so I visit the lake a lot.
