Imagine, if you will, humanity halted on the scientific frontier. Technology has faltered in growth because the minds of humanity's greatest scientists cannot deduce the next breakthrough in quantum physics.

Even now, humans reach out to neighboring star systems and begin cultivating distant celestial bodies, hoping to be the next great hero by uncovering something revolutionary. The year is 2687 and for all humanity is capable of, it might as well be the stone age all over again.

Stephen Lambrent, however, made a breakthrough discovery. His single contribution would forever change the human race. He discovered a gateway mechanism he immediately named the Lambrent Nexus, and after triggering the link to an identical gateway, an abandoned alien planet ripe with technology. And, most importantly, this technology was easily deciphered by the scientists of Earth.

A great harvest began. The trickle was slow at first as the Earth military commandeered cargo ships to begin taking back what could be removed from the planet. But after months of harvesting, Earth laboratories were filling up with great technology to study.

Alien ships were found and, after a lot of trial and error, navy personnel were able to pilot the sleek, highly advanced ships. Many of these ships were returned to Earth's orbit where further research was conducted. During the harvest, Lambrent went missing in his ship. Weeks later, Marx Morgairan--one of the lead scientists and research coordinators for the harvest--became ill with an unidentifiable sickness. Hospitalized and quarantined, he was studied and no ailment was found to plague him. But his condition continued to grow worse.

Several more took on the sickness weeks later, and after several months of unexplained illness, a pandemic had broken out. Hospitals were overrun with what was being dubbed the Morgairan Plague and Earth was quarantined by the military, destroying any vessel that lifted from the surface without proper clearance codes.

All attention shifted to finding a means to identify what was slowly spreading across Earth and stop it. The activities of one of the alien vessels orbiting Earth, renamed by the military as Summer's Rain, had a different role, however. The directive of that crew was to translate the alien language and to seek them out for an answer to this problem, assuming that the race still existed.

And it's aboard the Summer's Rain that the story begins. It's now that the Morgairan Crisis must be remedied.
