Dear Diary,
The past few days has been quite unusual for me, what with all the excitements of Hassan coming into the house and wondering what kind of child he'll turn out to be. Despite the fact that I've never really taken care of anything in my life (except when I had the pet ant in second grade that somehow ended up accidentally flushed down the toilet), I'm actually pretty confident that I won't to that bad of a job with Hassan: at least I hope not.
Hassan's now right besides me as I'm writing this diary entry in the supposedly magical, odd little book Humfrey Two entrusted with me. He's in all his sugary, striped, candy cane glory (don't worry, I'm keeping a constant eye on him so no one has the chance to eat him) and, as I imagine, quite comfortable, nested in the sleeping bagish compartment that I fabricated for him out of a blanket. Nothing strange is happening with him yet; although that is probably what is best, considering that if he suddenly sprouted three eyes and a horn or something, I'd probably faint dead on the spot. I sometimes wonder (when I'm not stressed over the next biology test) if Hassan can hear and understand the things around him, because I have a tendency to mumble to myself and a lot of that has been happening lately around Hassan. I do hope Odyssey stirs up an antidote soon; I feel most silly asking a candy cane questions and then waiting for an answer that would surely never come.
I've also had the time to take a close look at Hassan's certificate after coming home from the Xanth shop. It looked to be a delicate piece of parchment, with magical glint of red and green on it; that was to be expected, Hassan was, after all, a candy cane. What was interesting was what was written on the certificate in small, neat handwriting: Talent: present summoning. Present summoning? Like Santa? Or a genie? This small phrase has got me quite curious, enough so that I was tempted to call the Xanth Shop for an explanation. I stopped myself, though, because I'm sure Odyssey and the good Humfrey Two wouldn't like being interrupted from their work with silly questions like these. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
It's getting quite late now, and I should probably be in bed. Wouldn't want to be too tired for that Biology exam tomorrow.
- S. Jubilation
P.S. Hassan's been staying on my bedside table every night now, since I spied my cat eyeing the candy cane curiously. I figured that this was the safest; I wouldn't want Hassan to become cat food.

My, my, how time does fly:
Christmas has passed, but today is New Years Eve!
Write out a RP post about how you and your item interact this day. You also get a phone call from Odyssey this day (wait they're open on holidays?!).
She schedules an appointment with you for a day after the Eve.
Also you note a new page in your journal given to you by Humfrey Two.
Journal Page Before you go visit X.I.A. again please collect 3 toys for your child to be. Also try to buy some sweets (especially minty ones)...
Bring the sweets with you to the shop! (Don't be scared to ask for help if needed. You may draw/create the images or find them online (as long as you credit where you got the images from somewhere later.)

-New Years Eve-Prompt My, my, how time does fly:
Christmas has passed, but today is New Years Eve!
Write out a RP post about how you and your item interact this day. You also get a phone call from Odyssey this day (wait they're open on holidays?!).
She schedules an appointment with you for a day after the Eve. Jubilation sat on the edge of the cliff overlooking the city; beside him was Hassan, still a candycane, wrapped snug into a fiery-red blanket. The time was the fifty-sixth minute of the twenty-third hour of December 31, 2005. Yes, it was New Years Eve and just about the whole world was instilled in a fury of anticipation for the oncoming year. Two-Thousand-Five had been a good year, full of cheery events, happy memories, and it was the year Jubilation came to be the guardian of Hassan. The Guardianship was so far so good, although not without its own share of troubles and mishaps.
Jubilation shivered in the cold mountain air; it was quite cold, although that was normal considering it was almost mid-night. He hoped that Hassan was warm, although he still wasn't quite sure if the little candy cane could feel as humans do. Jubilation pulled the blanket close around Hassan and glanced at his watch again impatiently. Two more minutes. In two more minutes, it would be a New Year, Hassan's first New Year actually. (It really didn't matter if Hassan's still a candycane, this was still his first New Year)
Jubilation's mind wandered back to the phone call from Odyssey that day. She had made an appointment with him, for the first day of the new year to be precise. The girl had sounded quite excited, of course, when was she ever not. The phone call, strange to say the least, had gotten Jubilation's mind turning; why would Oddy want him to come in tomorrow? Surely it must be important, or else she would have told him right then and there on the phone. Perhaps she'd found an anticdote to release Hassan! Or maybe she just want him to fill out some paperworks that he forgot to do last time he was at the Xanth Headquarters. Well, either way, Jubilation made a mental note to stop by tomorrow.
Boom!
A cacophony of booms irrupted in a distance as the night sky lit up with the sparks of fireworks. Jubilation pushed all that he had been thinking to the back of his head, and for the moment, contented on watching the fireworks bloom in the sky. He held Hassan up with his hands, hoping that he was enjoying the celebration too. Jubilation and Hassan spent a few minutes breathlessly, as the fireworks erupted again and again into great balls of flame over the city. They didn't seem to end; they didn't seem to diminish; they seemed, then, bigger than the world. The newspaper had been right, this was probably the best place to spend New Years Eve: the night air was fresh, the view was spectacular, and the fireworks was, dare he say, the best he had seen in a long long time. Yes, all in all, the three hour drive - two hour hike up here had been worth it.
As the fireworks eased to a stop some thirty-minutes later, Jubilation had carefully stowed Hassan away in his back pack, and started the hike down. It would probably be dawn by the time the duo reached their home in the city, where they would probably fall over dead and catch some Zzzs, and wake up some three hours later to face the New Year.

Dear Diary,
I finally got back from vacation, and just in time for New Years too. My vacation, as you probably know for the lack of activities, was just over a week. It was pretty tiring, although most fun indeed. I was looking forward to a nice rest from school and everything. Don't worry, I left Hassan with a good friend of mine while I went on vacation and I just picked him up a few days ago.
Hassan and I spent New Years on top of that mountain to the east of the city, yeah, I never could remember what that mountain was called. Anyways, it seems that I'll be paying a visit to the Xanth Headquarters soon: Oddy called on New Years Eve and asked me to come in. The journal's been spewing out stuff too. Looks like a message from Humfrey Two wants me to get candy and toys for Hassan. It seems like a visit to the toy store is due as I don't carry any toys that would be well suited for Hassan when he emerges.
I wonder what they want to for at the Xanth Headquarter? Either way, I'll need that get that done soon. School will be starting in two days and I know after that starts, I'll have no free time what so ever since mid-terms are coming up.
And now, I'm heading out to find toys for Hassain.

Dear Diary,
I finally had the time to go toy shopping for Hassan as the journal had instructed. I must say, toys these days are getting more and more complicated. It was drizzling a little outside, but nothing serious, so I took the city bus to the little toy store down town. It's strange that I don't remember that store at all, I think I just recently replaced a SubWay restaurant. But enough ranting, lets see what I got for Hassan.
The journal said three toys, so I bought a tiger plush first.
Cute little thing, it even roars when you squish it. I think Hassan'll like it. All kids like fuzzy soft things, right? or is that only girls?
I also got him a bottled angel.
This little thing was just sitting on the counter when it caught my eye. I still can't figure out how the angel floats...
and in case the plush and the bottle angel is too 'girly' as I suspect it might be, I also got Hassan a sword.
Yep, he'll like this one alright.
- S. Jubilation
P.S. I also picked up some candy and one of those 'fill in your own bag of candy' stores.

I got some chocolate, some lollipops, some mint drops, and some peppermint patties (since the journal said somethng minty). Now all's left is to visit the Xanth Headquarters.

Dear Diary,
I got back from the Xanth headquarters and guess what! Oddy finally found the anticdote for Hassan and he's born now! I always knew that girl was smart, good thing too. I was getting very antsy, not knowing Hassan's fate. I didn't understand too much what was going on, but Oddy performed some kind of magic ritual-summoning thing on the candycane and out Hassan popped. There was chanting and glowing and everything, she even used the candy I got. I don't think there was any sprinkling of fairy powder, but the whole experience is a fuzz now, considering that I haven't had much contact with magic before this.
Anyways Hassan's the most beautiful little boy I've seen. With golden hair and a little of green and red sprinkled here and there. He's quiet too, and only occasionally makes a noise now and then. He does suck his thumb quiet a lot, but I suspect that that's the case with most babies and I'm waiting to see. All morning I've been cooing away at him. I think he'll settle fine into the house; he's already gotten familiar with the blanket I got him.
Taking care of a baby's a lot easier than I thought it would be, or maybe it's just because Hassan's such an easy-going one. I think his personality's already showing quite a bit, but I'll have to see if it changes. I wonder if he remembers when he was a candycane... but I'll have to wait quite a long time before he can answer me.
Well, rest for me now. I'm very tired from the long day, with all the effort trying to settle Hassan in and reading books on how to take care of a baby. Hassan's already asleep in his new bed; lucky him. Sometimes I wish I was a baby....

Dear Diary,
Haven't written in awhile, so I'm checking in now.
Little Hassan's getting more and more curious about everything around him everyday. The other day he was playing with my ink bottle and spilled the stuff all over himself. He's been tinted blue for days now, although I did manage to get much of it off of him. So now, I remember to pull the crib walls up and not leave it next to ink bottles. What can I say? You live, you learn.
School's been busy as of late, but that's nothing new. Thank god Hassan's not one of those babies that cry all night (I've been hearing a lot about them on the web forumn I found on the internet for new parents). He's pretty peaceful at night, only cries occasionally. Even then, rocking usually helps a lot. In the day time, he smiles a lot and playes with the tiger plush I got him. Funny thing is, he's acting a lot older than I anticipated a baby would; maybe Oddy had some aging agent in the potion when Hassan got dunked into it. Hassan's a model baby I tell you, he's teachers will be so impressed once he goes to preschool (what? can't I be a proud parent?) . But I'm getting ahead of myself; that's at least a couple of months away.
I don't anticipate me having problems with Hassan soon or leaving him for an extended period of time, so there will be no nanny for him. I would really trust anyone else looking after my boy; besides, we are too attached to each other anyways.
I don't think Hassan's been getting enough outside exercises lately, so I've been trying to bring him out to the park more. I think Oddy built a child's playground not far from the Xanth headquarters; Hassan and I'll have to check it out some times.

Dear Diary,
Hassan and I had quite a lot of fun on Oddy's new playground; Hassan especially liked the baby slides. We only stayed there for a few hours (wouldn't want Hassan to catch a cold, you know), and I promised Hassan we'll go back again some time soon (he kept staring at me with puppy-dog eyes). It's a wonder Hassan's so good at home, since I rarely have time to really play with him or do any activities with him. He's quite fond of the tiger plush I got him and drags it around with him eveywhere.
I am planning to do finger painting with him next weekend, since I think it'll do him good with come in contact with some artistic activities. Besides, will be getting down and messy, and I'm sure he'd love that! I've already got the paint ready and I bought some glitter too to sprinkle on (unorthodoxed I know, but it seems to me from what I've seem that Hassan's attention is easily captured by shinny materials). I'm sure we'll have quite a lot of fun, and hopefully, the paint will wash off.

Dear Diary,
Hassan and I found some time to do some finger painting this weekend. We did have lots of fun, but I'll have to make sure the carpet doesn't get this messy again the next time we do finger painting... took me two hours to scrub clean. >.<
Hassan seemed to have enjoyed the finger painting immensely; I had to hold down his hand to stop him from smearing paint all over his face (and my face). The little rascal kept grabbing everything while by back was turned and somehow half the house ended up with paint on it by the time we were done. He even managed to paint tiger stripes on my face and I amused him by roaring. We had a fabulous time; he was screaming and laughing the whole time.
Here's what he came up with:
Since Hassan still hasn't learned to talk yet, I have no clue what he painted, but it does seem to have definite shapes, doesn't it? I think the blue is suppose to be the sky and the red is the sun. As for the green blob, I have no idea. Maybe it's Grunny from that cartoon show he loves to watch. I can't wait until he's old enough to paint with a paint brush; you gotta say, he's got talent!
- S. Jubilation
P.S. - Note to self: remember to keep candy away from Hassan when fingerpainting. I don't know how much paint he swallowed from picking up candy and eating it with paint on his hands, but I'm pretty sure it's not doing him any good. >.<
